I see some lower star reviews and read the comments but I have not experienced anything negative. I have dined downstairs and upstairs. I've had drinks at the bar too. The cocktail menu provides you more than just the standard beer and wine menu. The cocktails are different and unique. It has whiskey options similar to the cigar bar nearby without the smell. The food is fine, nothing out of the ordinary but nothing awful. Since I consider it average, I select items within an average price range. The layout and atmosphere is great. read more

Best mussels I have ever had. We sat at the bar and our bartender was so friendly and helpful. Everyone wore their masks and gave us space. We got pork chops and ribs which came out great and timely. But the mussels are truly bringing us back, can't recommend it enough! read more

First off - Ember's food is good... The drinks were good, though nothing spectacular. The service for us the night we went was very good and the waitress we had was very attentive and informed about what was what with the menu. They were out of some of the items but for us, that was okay as those items weren't of interest. They've got a very unique spot and they've kind of dumbed it down and made it a lot more plain and drab. With the bar in the downstairs and no carpets or anything to absorb sound, it was very loud even though there wasn't a whole ton of people. It was somewhat distracting. The upstairs has a great bar and more intimate seating from prior ownership, yet they left it closed up. What a waste. They could do a lot more with this place and make it a little bit more upscale given their building and the features within it. read more

Had my first visit tonight and will be back! Delilah greeted us at the door and was quick to get my name when my friend stated "It's your birthday, you choose where to sit..." still unsure where to choose, Delilah took us upstairs and let us know we could sit at a table she had open or the bar. We chose the bar only because it wasn't packed. Neither my friend or I drink so we asked for mocktails and boy were they tasty!! Spot on! We had the Calamari to start (so good) and I was treated to a fabulous Ribeye ... so so so good! I was highly disappointed with this restaurant. They appear to be allergen friendly by using allergy friendly symbols like GF or V on their menu. We ordered our food and explained to the waitress that there were food allergies for one of the orders. After waiting 45 minutes to get our food, they sent the busboy out to say that they couldn't serve us because of the food allergies. In all of my years of dealing with food allergies, no restaurant has ever rejected us due to food allergies! They have always, always found a way to accommodate us. We are still in shock! read more

We were a little worried after reading some of the reviews but all 4 of us had great food- Brussels sprout and veggie flatbread appetizer were very tasty. Salmon dish, tuna and Margherita pizza all delish... for dessert carrot cake Whoopi's pie, vanilla creme brûlée and an apple concoction... yummy. Very nice wines, hard cider and beer selections fulfilled our needs. As for service, our waitress was Lauren and she was very efficient and personable. We were not impressed with Ember. We had a 730pm reservation on a Saturday. First, it took 10-15 minutes for someone to come to our table and it wasn't overly busy. Then our waitress said, "before I bring your drinks, I want you to know we've sold out of most of our menu" then proceeded to tell us everything they were out of, which was half the menu. We opted to stay and order the meatball appetizer. Hands down, the best part of our meal. My fiancé ordered an old fashioned and it was very weak. I had the Hemingway daiquiri which was so good. My drink and the meatballs are what gave the resturant 3 stars. My fiancé ordered a black Manhattan which was okay. But a resturant that claims to be a whiskey bar, but doesn't carry large ice cubes or spheres? Blew our minds as big whiskey drinkers. My fiance ordered a 2oz pour of Elmer T Lee which was good, but had to ask for rocks on the side to add to his whiskey because the small ice cubes really watered down the whiskey before you could drink it. He had the $48 ribeye that was overcooked and lacked flavor. I had the monkfish entrée that was also overcooked, I did not finish it. Our waitress tried to do the right thing and removed a couple drinks from our bill. Not at all her fault, but we were not impressed and likely will not return to Ember. read more

Nice ambiance but bartender/ server was not very friendly. We ducked in to the upstairs loft bar for an evening snack and beverage. The Maple Brussels sprouts were not terrible but not all that yummy. They were not cooked all the way on the inside and the maple syrup used was overcooked/burnt. Once we were in and seated handed menus we were told even though the menu said happy hour till close they would not honor this. Walked out! So disappointed. Quick review to share my experience with Ember.. Wife and I love good food. We don't consider ourselves picky, but enjoy food when it's well prepared. We started off with a couple of cocktails, I had the grapefruit gimlet (don't judge) and wife had a drink called footprints in the snow. Mine was good, hers tasted bitter and tart - as if some key ingredient(s) were left out. Waitress quickly replaced it with wife's second choice, a Cosmo (which was good). Ordered the baked onion soup for app, wife had a salad. Soup was nothing special - and was not a traditional French onion (it wasn't called a French onion, I know, but the description lead me to believe, with Gruyere cheese, I thought it would be similar.) Think more beef soup broth with cheese and croutons on top served in a crock. Wife's salad, however, was almost inedible. It was served with pumpkin seeds (normally yummy!) but they were raw (yuck!). Chewy and fibrous, she had to pick them off. Another element of the salad, the squash, should have been tender/crisp - it was mushy/boiled tasting and the texture did not go well with the salad. For our main course, wife had a combo of apps - the app serving of the scallops and the broccoli with spices. The scallops, which were only two, were so spicy my wife grabbed her water within seconds of the first bite (and she normally has a good tolerance for spicy!). Having waited an hour for the food, she forced them down due to being very hungry, but seemed in distress. We started to realize that sending food back would not lead to better results - there was something fundamentally not working in the kitchen. The broccoli seemed to be boiled, placed in a skillet with the spices (which were on the bottom of the skillet when served), and then placed in an oven after they were boild. They were overdone/mushy, and although the spice blend they added was present, they did not salt the broccoli which made them totally bland. Just weird. My grilled chicken sandwich was ok - kind of a chicken and mayo sandwich (I actually like that!) but more of an at-home meal than a take-your-wife-out meal.. Overall, it seemed that someone in the kitchen had a list of all of the ingredients that belonged in each of the dishes, but simply lacked the skill or knowledge of how to execute them all together into a good dish worth serving/eating. I'm probably sounding overly critical, but I did my best to simply describe my experience without letting my disappointment color my narrative. Perhaps just an off night? We had a disappointing experience here for dinner. There were 4 of us and we had a reservation. We were seated right away and the server came by within a few minutes. Two of us are whiskey drinkers and they claim to have a huge variety with a dedicated whiskey menu. We ordered two Manhattans with two whiskeys on the menu. They do don't have either of the Whiskeys we chose off the menu. We had the Brussels sprouts and the cauliflower appetizers. Both took too long to come Out and the cauliflower was cold and the Brussels sprouts were under cooked. We ordered dinner and two of the specials we wanted were sold out. The server do don't tell us when she gave us the menu they were sold out or even running low. Ordered the pork, salmon, veal and a am entree salad with salmon. The salmon was over cooked. The veal was good so I was told by my friend. The real disappointment was the pork. It was supposed to come with mashed potatoes and it came with fingerling potatoes. They dropped it off and I immediately asked the server why it had fingerling potatoes when the menu said mashed. She said they ran out of mashed potatoes. I dislike fingerling potatoes and would have even preferred French fires. Why they do don't come and tell me they ran out of mashed is beyond me but to simply drop it off and think someone wouldn't notice ? I mean things happen and kitchens runnout of things but to not even mention it or gosh forbid come tell Me before it arrived is beyond? No explanation even when it arrived at the table until I asked. I asked for risotto instead and she said they couldn't do that.. so then I said how about fries and she said she would bring them . They never came.... The pork was OK. So 3 of the 4 dinners were poor, the appetizers sucked and the server was horrific. Not even an apology with the whiskey being out, the specials being out or the pork thing.. I don't understand why this place has such bad reviews! I am a very picky eater and was blown away by the food here. Had a very thoughtfully put-together charcuterie plate to share, the half roasted chicken with root vegetables and sweet potato purée, and was able to sample two deserts- the chocolate creme and the apple cake. Also was lucky enough to sample the dishes of my family I dined with. They were all delightful, creative, fresh, delicious. I will definitely be back! One and done! Ate here with my wife on Saturday night 12/1. I had the Steak Frites, this was a hangar steak with hand cut fries. The steak was very bland and very tough, a total lack of seasoning, no seasoning on the table, had to ask for salt, pepper and steak sauce to make it somewhat edible. The fries were good. I also got a Greek salad to start out that was a very small portion for the price. My wife got the baked chicken dish, it tasted ok, but was dry. This place has potential with an appealing atmosphere, but is obviously lacking in the most important area..... the kitchen. read more

Giving this 3 stars simply because of the terrible service. We came here for dinner on a Saturday at 8pm -It was surprisingly not busy and we were seated (outside) right away which was nice. The waitress took about 10 minutes to bring us water and take our drink order. 2 of us ordered the same ciders, and after 25 minutes, the waitress came back and said "What did you want to drink again?" It took another 20 mins to get the drinks!! (Yes I started timing the situation) At 8:45 we FINALLY had our drinks and were able to order our food which didn't come out until about 9:30. The food was actually really good except our salads were missing dressing. When we asked for a side of dressing, the waitress argued that there was a "light dressing on the salad already" and it took another 10 minutes for her to bring us the sides of dressing. I was blown away by how terrible our server was!! It was a shame that the service was so bad because I likely won't come back. read more

All around disappointing dinner. My husband and I went out for our first kid free meal and were wrong try something new but Ember fell short. The concept is great, menu looked amazing, decor and ambiance were stunning but it all fell apart when it came to service and execution. We arrived and we're quickly seated but it took a few minutes to get a waitress to order drinks, that was fine, gave us a chance to look over the extensive cocktail menu and decide. It then took over 20 minutes to get our drinks (which were perfect, I ordered the Country Road cocktail, hubs got bourbon on the rocks). We finally got to order dinner after our drinks arrived, we sprung for the scallop appetizer, I got the short rib risotto and the hubs got the tuna bowl. At least 30 minutes went by while we waited for food, whatever, we weren't in a hurry and just enjoyed our drinks. The scallop appetizer was definitely not worth the price tag, there were only two (two!!) scallops on the plate. They were absolutely delicious but for $13 there should have been at least 4. Nearly an hour and a half (that's 1.5 hours!!) later our dinner finally arrived. By that point we were impatient and starving, we are patient people and easy to please but by that point I would have expected to at least have the waitress check in, apologize and offer to comp something. She stopped by once to offer us more drinks but we were only prepared to order one round. The tuna bowl was nothing special, good but you can find the same thing elsewhere much cheaper. My short ribs were overpowered by the pickled asparagus. The beef was lovely and the risotto and sauce was delicious but by the end the overwhelming vinegar flavor just made the whole dish inedible. After over two hours in the restaurant we were able to leave and pay our bill. For a pricey date night at a foodie restaurant we expected much better and left throughly disappointed. We hope service improves over time but we won't be returning. read more

I'm staying in Dover 2 days for business - was looking for seafood with a healthy twist and found it here! Had the diver scallops appetizer then the salmon entree with quinoa and fresh veggies. I had the aged angus steak medium rare which was cooked to perfection. I usually get filets when I get steak at a restaurant but this was phenomenal! Mushroom risotto was great too. The wife got the pear salad and she said it was great as well with many different textures. This is turning into our go-to spot. I think they just defrosted the steak I ordered because I ordered it...It was tough, but at least flavored well. Also, the fingerling potatoes on the plate were dehydrated and shriveled up and may have been from the night before....Also....only four spears of asparagus - all for $28.00. My husband got the burger and it was ok, but not worth $14.00. The fries were the best part. Other things wrong: no salt and pepper on the tables, had to ask for just regular butter, not garlic butter, and it all just cost too much for nothing extra food and tiny, pricey cocktails. The atmosphere was just ok. Kind of plain and they could have turned up the fireplace so that it actually resembled a fire instead of a gas burner on low. Heard it was great, but no it wasn't. Not that much of an exchange. Won't be back. Two stars is generous, but it wasn't horrific, just not that good. read more

Great place, my husband ordered a burger and I had the lobster mac and cheese. Both cooked perfectly, we would order both of these dishes again. Service was good, bar menu excellent.
