My wife and I ordered some poppers and a burger to split. The popper were ok, nothing spectacular, about 8-10 half jalapenos (4-5 cut in half) with some mystery cheese on top. When the burger arrived I cut it in half to share. Burger was amply sized but very very rare and literally cold as in refrigerator cold to the touch. I sent it back. The return burger was reasonably hot but still way too rare for most people to eat, 90% of the people would have sent it back too. This experience was very unfortunate, we have eaten there several times before and the food was outstanding. I am not sure if they have a new cook, if the place changed owners or what happened. The couple we were with had a poor experience with their food as well, a calzone that was all dough and very little filling. We would go back one last time, only because of their past good food history, but I will not tolerate another if super rare burger. read more

Started with a beer sampler, that was great, quote a variety. Salads look fresh & we didn't get tacos, but they look awesome. Burgers look awesome, but taste average, they don't ask you how you like them so they are well done, but juicy. Pizza & calzones are great, photos on yelp are a good reference of what to eat here. We love the town of Joseph! I so wanted this to be a great experience, especially given the many great reviews! Regrettably, the food just doesn't keep up with the reviews. I'm disappointed. We ordered a Bavarian Pretzel, Fish Tacos with chips & salsa, and the Pub Burger with fries. 1. The pretzel was not hot - in fact, when they served it, it was broken into many pieces (hint, that's a sign of a stale soft pretzel). The cheese was cold but the mustard was great! 2. Fish Tacos - Asked for the cream sauce that was supposed to be on the taco, which we had to wait for because they had to make more, go figure... but they were GOOD! Bunch of broken tortilla chips from the bottom of the bin. The salsa was great! 3. Finally, the burger. At first it came out cold (as in refrigerator cold). I asked them to heat it back up and came to find out that they smoke the burgers first, then re-animate them when ordered. When it came back out, it had the mouth feel of being re-warmed in a MICROWAVE OVEN. Nothing about this burger was good. There was no smoke flavor, the cheese was a yellow smear (as in pre-melted when it was smoked). I sent it back. SERVICE WAS GREAT: The service and atmosphere were great (sat down immediately, drinks came out quickly, very friendly, etc., etc.) ALSO - big bonus, they are dog friendly!! No water until 45 min in, only after I asked. Our iced tea had a disturbing aftertaste, I couldn't even finish it. The hummus platter was just, what looked to be, warmed up pita bread from Costco. The pizza I had was truly bad. The crust was pretty doughy and it had an overall acidic taste. In summary: food was 6/10; vibe was 10/10 (it's a cool spot); service a 7/10. I think due to it being one of the only spots open in town, they are either over taxed with too many patrons--or they don't have to try too hard because no matter what, they will always have business. The ladies here greeted us with smiles even though we had a party of 10. They sat us at two tables outside right next to each other and gave us phenomenal service with delicious food. The smiles never wavered even though they were incredibly busy. They even apologized that the other restaurant treated us like crap. Top tier service, delicious food and great brew. Highly recommended. We bring a lot of family to Joseph every year when they visit and I tell a lot of people that travel through my Airbnb to come up her to Joseph and Wallowa lake. I will definitely be recommending Embers Restaurant and Pub above all other locations And I asked for a menu to leave at my cabin for guests. Worth the wait. Excellent food and service. It was busy so it took about 40 minutes to get our take-out order but we'll worth it. We walked around town for a while and came back for our order. Yum! When we stopped by for some lunch this little brew house was PACKED! Completely full and that's always a good sign. It is a pretty small restaurant and even though we got a pizza, we seen the other food come out for customers and all of it looked so good. Overall a great place for food, drink and ambiance! Right in the middle of town- a cute outdoor atmosphere. Staff was very attentive & friendly. We ordered a pizza- which did take a while (almost 1.5 hours) and this was towards the end of the evening. We went back a few times after that and it was the same way- so be prepared to wait! With that being said though, whenever we got the food it was absolutely delicious. Pizza was SO good! Although the wait was awhile, our waitress was great with replenishing our drinks.
