Had a great day visiting 4 local wineries and learning about the area. Sherry is such a sweetheart and is so knowledgable of wine country. We bought a deal off Living Social that included a 5 hour winery tour. Sherry arrived early and timed everything perfectly. She even takes pictures of your group throughout the day to post on their FB page. Highly recommend Embrace Oregon. Let Sherry do the driving so that you can enjoy some fantastic local wine without having to worry about driving.

First stop, Carlton Cellars tasting room :)

I found a special on Embrace Oregon wine tours and called to see their availability. Sherry was so kind on the phone and we scheduled a mid-week tour. She sent an email with details about the tour and where to park in McMinnville. We had never been there before, but the directions were very straight forward and she called 15 minutes before our meet-up time to tell us the description of the van we were riding in and where to find her. The parking lot was free for the day (yay!) and the four of us climbed into her air-conditioned van (it was about 90 degrees that day) and we were off. Sherry is so knowledgeable about the area, the wines, and kept us on our toes with her occasional trivia questions. We are not wine connoisseurs by any stretch so the info she and the tasting hosts provided in the three wineries we visited really enlightened us and expanded our knowledge base. Sherry says that wineries visited vary by tours, but for our wineries we visited: Carlton Cellars, Armonea Vineyard, and Methven Family Vineyards. We averaged about seven tastings per winery, so definitely eat a nice, heavy meal prior to your tour! After the second winery tasting, Sherry had snacks prepped for us: sliced bread, assorted cheeses, fruits, spinach dip, ranch dressing and raw sliced veggies. It was delicious and the view from the patio of Armonea was to die for! Being unfamiliar with the hundreds of wineries in the county, it is such a treat to have someone be your guide (and your dd) to show you some of the hidden gems that this county has to offer. I highly recommend the wine tours with Embrace Oregon and would love to do it again! Sherry took great care of us and we all left with a few bottles of wine in tow and in love with the area :)

This is the snack tray. This was for only 2 of us! Ample and tasty.

It's about time that I write a review for Embrace Oregon. I originally found a deal on Living Social for a wine tour. I had tried a few companies that offered deals prior to Embrace Oregon, and this was a night and day different experience. Previously I had many calls that were never returned. When they were, there were a very limited selection of dates available, last minute cancellations, and subpar wineries on the tours. Sherry responds quickly when you request a date. She will not cancel last minute if you are only a group of two (some other companies will do this if they can't fill their van), and she will give you some choices of itinerary. If you check out her prices on Groupon and Living Social, I challenge you to find a tour operator that offers the quality of wineries and personalized service that she offers anywhere close to her price. I have yet to find one. Of course if you prefer to spend more, there are plenty of other operators that would be happy to have you. Since I have been on her tours many times she looks back to see which wineries she has taken me to so that she can try somewhere new. She's a fifth generation Oregonian, so she has plenty of interesting tidbits to share about the area. She has built excellent relationships with many of the wineries in the Willamette Valley, so it feels like we are treated extra special when we arrive with her. Sherry takes pictures at each stop that you can download later and marks all of your purchases with your name and stows them in the van. At the second stop she brings out a box of snacks. There is bread, assorted cheeses and meats, spinach dip, veggies, fruit, and delicious cookies she makes. My personal favorite is her lemon with white chocolate chips. Trust me, there is no way you can eat all of it. It's a really nice treat, and needed after a couple of tastings. On most of the tours the last stop is Red Ridge Farm for olive oil tasting. The shop has all kinds of high end goods from the area. Be sure to try the Meadow Foam honey. It tastes like Marshmallows! Sherry really makes an effort to think of everything and give you the best experience possible. For that reason I continue to go back to her, and she's an incredibly nice lady!

First stop on our amazing wine tour.

Sherry was amazing. Our tour was so much more than we expected. Not only did we go to 3 wineries. But she finished our tour with some olive oil and vinegar tasting as a bonus. Sherry is so full of knowledge. I have been a native Oregonian all my life and Sherry showed me a side of the state I never knew existed.

The complex Covers four buildings. Two of them are for the museum, one of the buildings holds a giant screen movie theater that screens, some amazing aviation related movies, and the fourth building is an indoor waterpark, complete with a retired 747 parked on the roof. The emergency exits to the 747 are entrances to the waterslides. The primary building, where the spruce goose is located, covers aircraft from a replica of the original Wright Brothers flyer, to modern military aircraft. The secondary building, is the space, museum. It has aircraft such as the SR 71 blackbird, a model of the Apollo, lunar lander, and other space related exhibits. You can easily spend hours here. Admission is reasonable, and they offer discounts for military/veterans, seniors, youth, and local residents. Annual memberships are also available. To see the Spruce goose I highly recommend the flight deck tour. It's $25 on top of the museum admission, not cheap, but without it, all you really see is the entranceway of the plane. I took the tour, it was a 45 minute tour, it goes through the entire plane, and the docent talked about the whole history of the plane, it's different components, etc..... It was originally a prototype for a massive cargo plane, but because it was not completed by the end of WWII, there were no others made. It only flew one time, and there was a really cool recording of a reporter who was actually on the plane for that flight. It's definitely worth the visit.

The house has two important claims to fame: ** site of the coin toss between Lovejoy (Boston) & Pettygrove (Portland) - best two out of three - to make us Portlanders rather than Bostonians. ** it is the oldest home in Oregon City. Yes, older than the McLoughlin and Barclay houses located a few blocks away. All three homes were "saved" from demolition and moved several times before arriving at their present locations. The Ermatinger House is just across from the Oregon City Public Library and next to another historic home, Stevens Crawford House, of a different era. This house was only occupied by the original owners, Francis Ermatinger, chief trader of the Hudson Bay Company, and his young bride, Catherine [1], for only three years before he received a new assignment and moved east. The house and furnishings are spare, but through additional grants, they are hoping to continue to update the museum. Currently there are some furnishings from the period, a replica of the "Portland Penny" used in the coin toss [2], and a book of Mr. Ermatinger's writings. They were asking for voluntary donations during this "soft opening" period but will charge an admission fee once the museum is officially open. I received a lovely tour from one of the volunteers and they have a lot of great activities planned for the grand reopening next week. There will be reenactments of the coin toss by descendants of Pettygrove & Lovejoy, music, and other activities. Coin Toss Brewing up the hill will be debuting a new Ermatinger Ale in honor of the museum. Love the community spirit connecting the present and the past. I asked him for boutique vineyard recommendations specifically to avoid seeing labels I could buy in the grocery or liquor store. He provided a list of 3 vineyards, aside from the one I was dead-set on visiting (Penner-Ash), suggesting 4 stops was more than enough. He was spot on. I was ready to tap out by the fourth and final stop. He suggested a 9:30 AM pick up from downtown Portland, accounting for about an hour drive to get to the first vineyard. He was right on time and picked up in a clean white Mercedez van. The first stop was Argyle, followed by De Ponte Cellars, followed by Brooks Winery for lunch, ending at Penner-Ash. Even though Argyle appeared to be a little commercial given its location on a fairly busy street rather than off the beaten path, the space and their sparkling wine provided for a good intro for the rest of the day. The other two vineyards he picked were exactly what I wanted. We were the only ones in De Ponte, except for the cat. And Brooks had a great food and wine menu for lunch, overlooking beautiful views. As for pricing, I was first taken aback by the $75/hour price point, but I got over it considering: - Allen's competition was charging about the same - Allen is your private driver for the day and waits for you in between stops - Uber is not practical or all that cheaper for something like this. The vineyards are too spread out, some of which are in no service areas, and I can guarantee an Uber driver wouldn't bring Allen's expertise to the table. Overall, I was very satisfied with this service and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Wilammette Valley. The more people the merrier, however. The $75/cost is per hour, not per person.
