Crazy busy for a Thursday was told the wait would be 40 minutes - we were seated in 10 !! I was with my daughter and her bf appetizers were yuca fries with a yellow dipping sauce and an empanada both of which were delish!! Usually a beer drinker but tried a Smoky Paloma which was so good I had another . So let's talk ceviche I've never had Peruvian before but will say it is now my favorite fresh fish and seafood and a spicy sauce made it perfect. Daughter tried to order the skirt steak but they were out so the server suggest an 8 oz strip prepared the same way - it was grilled a perfect medium rare and was covered in chimichurri sauce - just right !! Bf had a whole Peruvian rotisserie chicken - I had a taste and would recommend. Why 4 stars only because of how busy we had to wait for water and our drinks but the food came out quickly !! Will definitely go back there's still more menu to explore - they also serve wood fired pizza that looked awesome!! This place is wonderful! Very unique place in Greensboro that won't disappoint. The flavor profiles are well done. The portions are reasonable. Our party ate from the Peruvian side of the menu. Went for dinner on Friday 4/30. Because of a noted pattern I am posting this review of my recent experience. Yes, I have eaten here several times. Also, During college I waited table professionally for several years. I know when I being deliberately ignored. One reason I stop here they carry a beer I love." Bull City", that's not in many places in Greensboro, consequently was never asked anything about a beverage. I was assumed I wanted water. Then I had to flag a server after about 10 mins to order an appetizer. The water was Bought immediately, with rushed and hurry up vibes. The food was great as usual however the service was sub par ,terrible to put it mildly. Not once was I asked did I want or need anything. At the time I was the only person and woman of color in the room. With about 40. Others I watched as others around me we checked on, suggestions given, drinks served. No offer of alcohol, dessert, no anything. I no longer, patronize businesses that don't, Treat my money and presence with respect. Next time I will make the drive to Viva La Chicken on W. Wendover. I've been to Embur twice for lunch in the past couple of weeks. Service was good and the food served hot. The second time I went I waited until after 1p as it's a little noisy when the place is full and difficult to have a conversation. Both times I ordered one of their bowls and enjoyed it quite a bit. The flavors were good and a nice change. I didn't care for the sauce that came with it, but it comes on the side so it's easy to omit. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is because of the water. My waiter put a nice large carafe on the table, which was very nice. However, I've only had filtered or bottled water for many years. I only use tap water to bathe in, water the lawn, and brush my teeth, but I never drink it. Even my cat only gets served water that has been filtered through a Berkey water filter system. When "regular" water is served you can really taste the difference. Without thinking I ordered unsweet tea, but it tasted like it's also made with regular tap water so I didn't care for the iced tea either. So, if you try to avoid soft drinks there really isn't a non-alcoholic drink option. The water issue will probably keep me from dining in, but I would certainly get a carry-out order. read more

Fellow Peruvian here and I LOVE this establishment! I came with my boyfriend and our server Josh did such a wonderful job. From the beginning, we were greeted kindly. We got a whole chicken split between the both of us. He got an Inca Cola (Peruvian Coke Cola) and I got their Chicha Morada. The rice was well cooked and their steak fries were great! Even on our way out, we forgot our to go box and another nice waiter ran out to catch up and give it to us! Will certainly be returning and recommend this place to anyone. read more

I have been going to this gem for months. Although others have told me that the pizzas, salads, and chicken is good, I can only speak to the Vegetarian sandwich. Every time I tell myself that I will try something else, I end up with the same thing because it's so good. It includes sautéed vegetables-mushrooms, purple onions, eggplant and cheese (you can get it without cheese). The bread is like thin crust pizza. It comes with steak cut fries which I don't usually like but these are cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Other restaurants never seem to get the crispiness right with steak cut fries. For about $10, it is a great value for a hearty delicious meal. read more

I would not classify Embur as a "health food" restaurant. There is a wide selection of pizzas in the menu. However, I love that I can come here and get a healthy meal that is delicious and doesn't make me envious of what everyone else ordered. The rotisserie chicken is a must! I order it with double salad but their house rice is amazing. Service is always great, the manager is willing to accommodate any request or offer a wine suggestion, and the prices are very reasonable. One of my favorite Greensboro spots! read more

We've eaten here twice now. The food is good(3.5/5) but the customer service is horrible, unfortunately it appears that it is the result of the chef/owner and not the wait staff. The first time we ate there, my mother got the Vegetarian Sandwich. When ordering she said she didn't want fries and requested black beans and white rice instead. She was informed, "The chef does not allow substitutions, but I'll see what I can do." When our food came, she was brought the vegetarian sandwich, no fries, and black beans w/ white rice. GREAT, or so we thought. Upon getting the bill we discovered she was charged the full price of the entree + $4.25 for rice & beans! We're talking 1/2 a cup of plain white rice and a really small bowl of black beans. If you're going to charge full price of the entree and charge full a $4.25 side order of rice and beans, we could of at least been given the fries we paid for.... The second time we tried Embur one of our guest got one of the pizzas, they only ate 3/8 slices so they asked for a box. The waiter returned with your standard foam box, so we asked for a small pizza box.(The kitchen wall is glass so you could plainly see them) We were then told by the waiter, "I asked for a pizza box for you and the chef told me no, and told me I was only allowed to give you this box." This was our first visit to Embur and we cannot wait to return. Our server, Jill, was knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. She explained the menu and specials in detail and offered her suggestions. The presentation of each dish; salmon chimchurri, chicken-vegetable bowl and special halibut was amazing. We didn't realize the restaurant closed early in Sundays, yet we never felt rushed. I was visiting Greensboro with my 3 kids and mother. After a day in the aquarium it was time to eat. What a great place, I am bilingual but when going to places where they served Hispanic food, I always speak Spanish to my waiter. Can't imagine how this restaurant is rated so high. Was there last night and was very dissapointed. Ordered the half chicken and fries and when it came it wasn't even warm and the chicken was very dry.I even asked if it was suppose to be served room temp. Brought me another serving and it was hot but still dry with no flavor and the salad had virtually no dressing on it. I give Embur three stars for one reason only- at some point during our meal at the bar, ketchup was spilled on my chair (and subsequently on my purse and back of my top). While the staff did give me club soda and a towel for me to try and remove the more than half dozen blobs on the back of my top and on my purse, the restaurant did not give us even a discount on anything we ate or drank, nor did they even further acknowledge the spill, even when we found the lid to a ketchup bottle under my husband's feet (and neither of us nor the ladies next to us used ketchup). We certainly were not looking for a free meal, but some sort of recognition of the inconvenience would have been nice. The food was very good and the service (we sat at the bar) was more than acceptable. I had the avocado salad with chicken (though this salad is just as delicious without the protein) and my husband has the sea salt and rosemary pizza and the vegetable soup of the day, which was heavy with lentils but very tasty! We will be back, but think that a LITTLE bit of exceptional customer service would have made this review a 5-star review - hands down. read more

My coworkers and I LOVE this place!! You can't go wrong with anything, but I especially love the fried rice!

First of all, the food was amazing! The timing of the food.. not so much. I think we were the table that had all of the bad luck of the night. We called ahead and arrived at a relatively slow time, around 5:30, and placed our order - 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 pizzas - we have three kids so the outdoor seating was a lifesaver. The wait staff was awesome but our food took forever. When they finally brought it out, the 1st pizza was cold, they had forgotten the 2nd, and our appetizer arrived with the meal but not a big deal (we got the empanada.. not worth $12). The second pizza came out about 10 minutes later. When we checked out, we got a dessert to go. After waiting for 20 minutes, we told them to gift it to someone else (we had already paid) and left at around 7:15. It was frustrating to have small children in a restaurant for almost 2 hours, and finally leave without getting the food we had already paid for. I will give it another try, but not for a while. The only thing that was not worth the money was the empanada; it was tiny and not super flavorful. If we had had a better experience I would have given them 4-5 stars. I've only been in Greensboro for about a year now, and one of the only things I missed from Charlotte was Viva Chicken, the Peruvian chicken joint. I was excited when I saw this place open up near my neighborhood. We arrived at around 6:30 on a Friday. There were no tables available so we grabbed seats at the bar. The place was busy and the staff seemed rushed but the urgency was not relayed on to the customers. They have a nice selection of beers both draft and bottle, as well as a number of wine options. The decor is modern and bright, but the lack of sound absorptive materials makes it loud and hard to hear. I had the half chicken and Peruvian fried rice. I do wish they had the selection of red yellow and green dipping sauces, but the one they had was very tasty. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. Great seasoning and a nice Smokey flavor. (Borat voice) My wife got the otolana pizza. The vegetables were seasoned freshly, and the wood fired crust was delicious. Over all the food was great and the atmosphere was good. I'm more likely to come back during the week to avoid the crowd, but I'll definitely be back. read more

Lunch today was going to be the third time at Embur. The food is really outstanding and I have enjoyed good service in the past. BUT, today at lunch the place was understaffed. My husband and I waited to be seated to be told to sit anywhere -okay. We waited ten minutes and no one even acknowledged that we were there. The server never came. We flagged down a server and asked for the menus -- fine, got 'em. Waited another 10 minutes and no one ever acknowledged that we were there -- got up and left. I understand that when a restaurant is busy you will wait for service but all you have to do is tell me someone will be with you as soon as possible -- not ignore me for 20 minutes. read more

Today I visited Embur based on a recommendation by some Peruvian friends. I always look forward to check out places that are recommended. I went to this place with wife and kids. We ordered yuca frita, pollo a la brasa, lomo saltado, churrasco and ceviche de pescado. We also ordered chicha and pisco sour. Being our first time here, we really wanted to try things out. Let's start with the service, from the moment you walk in you are treated with respect and big smile. They were very accommodated by the fact that I had two little energetic kids. Yuca frita first came out and it was the most perfect "crocante" Yuca frita that ever had in my entire life (including Peru!) my kids never had Yuca frita and they loved it. We then order 1/4 of pollo a la brasa and it was fresh, delicious and amazing. My two kids are that up really fast and asked for more. We ordered ceviche and they used halibut. It was the most refreshing ceviche, it was delicious. Then we ordered lomo saltad that comes with fries and rice and the rice was so good that you could eat it alone. Lomo saltado was flavorous and just too amazing. My churrasco "medium term" was just from another planet. I couldn't believe that just about everything was too perfect. Chicha was homemade and perfect for my kids. I ordered a pisco sour and it was also on point. This restaurant is pretty much what you get as far as top quality food in Lima. I ordered a sandwich that did not have cheese or dairy anywhere in the description because I can't eat dairy. When I got my sandwich, it was filled with melted cheese- not something I could just take off and move on. I told the owner who was walking around asking how things were and she said "oh well I guess you'll remember for next time" and wouldn't let me switch it out or get it remade. The wait staff was very friendly but the owner is not. This was on opening night, too. You'd think they'd be more friendly on opening night to entice customers to return, but I guess not.
