This place is amazing. It feels like an oasis, hidden away from the stress of life. There are cabins with one room attached in case you would like a bigger place. We rented the Peacock. It was larger than our apartment. There was a large kitchen, small nook for dining, large moderately sized living room, lovely bedroom with a bath tub; bathroom with sink, shower and walk-in closet, and a separate room housing the loo. It was great. Probably the most romantic place that I have ever stayed. All of the cabins/rooms surround the pool and hot tub. The place is filled with luscious green plants and flowers. The staff is very friendly and helpful. And they serve a lovely breakfast in the morning. Definitely call ahead as it is hard to get the room of your choosing. read more

This is the ultimate getaway! I will only stay at this beautiful inn when in Ojai! It is beyond words! The decor is exquisite and very unique. The service is impeccable. I don't know how they manage to find such helpful/friendly staff. The rooms are spotless and are always ready on time! The free breakfast is perfect. Fresh fruits, pastries, delicious coffee, juices and other treats! You will not be disappointed! They also offer a wide range of spa treatments from some very gifted practitioners! Terrible pompous service. Wanted to book a 3 day Christmas treat for my parents and family, party of 6, with us joining them for a night. Will not accept kids under 14, meaning my 12 year old daughter and have a 2 night minimum, so I ended up cancelling. This is the only place to stay in Ojai! I've stayed at several hotels in the area, including the high end Ojai Valley Inn, but the Emerald Iguana is by far my favorite. We've stayed at their sister property, the Blue Iguana, and decided we like this one better. It's pricier, but more secluded and you can walk into town and explore Ojai on foot. All of the rooms are different and ours, the Acorn Studio Suite, had a huge private patio which is perfect for lounging and reading. They serve a very decent continental breakfast which includes bagels, muffins, cereals, fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, etc. (quiche on the weekend) by the pool. This is a very low-key, comfortable inn to stay in. They just need a sign to let the occasional inconsiderate, selfish guests know that the LA Times in the breakfast area is to be shared by everyone and left for everyone's reading pleasure. Same tranquil setting, same stingy management. The unfriendly management makes me feel like we're an inconvenience for them. We stayed here a decade ago, booking 80% of the rooms for an event. The facilities and landscaping are beautiful, and remain in excellent shape. Unfortunately, the management was stingy and totally inflexible with the smallest things ten years ago, and they're the same today. We understand that municipalities require limited people at the pool due to covid, there's nothing the Emerald can do about that. But to charge full rates, serve no breakfast or even complimentary filtered water, and close the pool early during a massive 109° heatwave while charging full rates? Not cool. The place was at least 75% booked on a weekday but they closed the pool at 7:30 "because of covid". Indoor (air conditioned) dining is also restricted in Ventura Co. so so we sat in our air conditioned room after 7:30pm on our weekend getaway. read more

There equipped with a small kitchen which we liked having for cold drinks snack foods etc. It wasn't too far from downtown if you'd like a good walk to town. The hotel is stunning but don't get the in house massages. The masseuse was late, loud and didn't bring the right supplies. On top of all that she tried to cut my 1.5 hour massage to an hour and 10 min. This is the second time I have stayed at the emerald and the fourth time at an iguana. they are both lovely but now that my kids are older the emerald is the way to go!!! read more

My wife and I stayed in Feather room for a three day weekend in March. - The property is lovely. Lots of plants helped create a tucked away - and quiet - escape. - The pool was nice (but very cold), and we made some new friends for the day in the sun. - The wonderful mustached cat hung out with us on several occasions. - The Feather room was just our size (not too big, not too small) and had it's own private patio. Lovely lovely place, we were expecting good things after reading reviews and seeing the website - not disappointed at all. We booked the Feather Room for one night, clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated, comfortable bed, great shower, secluded and calm and peaceful and NO CHILDREN! We stayed in the Frog Suite and it was a home away from home. A big suite with a living room, kitchen and private porch. Just a small walk from the pool and the complimentary breakfast. We stayed in the summer so we didn't use the fireplaces, but they looked great. The hotel is off the beaten path, tucked in a suburban neighborhood where you have lots of privacy. We spent most of our time lounging by the pool. You can also walk to Bart's Books or down to the shops and restaurants. There's bike rentals too. Service is great too. There when you need it, not when you don't. Everyone is really friendly and they remember things like your anniversary or birthday (thanks for the wine!). There were a few minor bumps (couldn't get the wifi; the faucet in the shower was a challenge to figure out) but they were all taken care of. read more

So impressed ! We were lucky to get a room as their was only one left. We got the suite and we couldn't be more happy. So quiet and beautiful ! Were so relieved their was no room left at the valley inn ( which is over priced in my opinion and the food wasn't that great ! Very pretentious ) had much better meals in town. SOLD MY ROOM and kept my $309.00 deposit. RUDE service with ZERO compassion and ZERO attempt for resolution. THIS is a legitimate ISSUE and people who are reserving rooms here need to be AWARE. I WAS a 7 time return customer to both Emerald and Blue Iguana inn's in Ojai, I recently reserved a room for me and a associate to stay during a workshop. I paid the $309 deposit reserved the room. I just sprained my back and can not drive thus I can not make the trip, I called 4 days prior to check in to see if I could move my associate into a smaller room. I did not cancel, I did notify them I would not be coming and requested a smaller room for my friend.. The Manager BETH said she would transfer the deposit to the smaller room for my associate and asked that she call herself to finalize the details. WELL, in less the 12 hours BETH gave the room away, and notified my associate that there would be no place for her to stay AND they are keeping my deposit. Heres the BIG ISSUE. Apparently they have no problem selling their rooms because they are now sold out. AND I am a many many times return guest. How hard is it to first stick to your word? The emerald and blue iguanas are making their money, the rooms are rented AND they are keeping my deposit too?. THIS is REALLY BAD BUSINESS. ++ I might add that the management was rude beyond measure. Lets see if this review actually stay up here on YELP, I am 100% sure they don't want people knowing they overselling rooms and stealing deposits. read more

What a wonderful stay! Don't let the "inn" part of the name fool you. This place is so much more! I stayed at the Lilypad suite which had 1 bedroom, 1 2nd floor loft, 2 baths, 2 patios, and a full kitchen. My favorite part of the suite was the little Jacuzzi. The beds were all very comfortable and the inn environment was just as peaceful. The management enforces a quiet time so this place is great for those who are seeking peace and relaxation. There is also a pool and Jacuzzi so your rest and relaxation can definitely continue outside. The breakfast was great since it serves a large variety of pastries and beverages. This was the perfect spot for my birthday weekend. Thanks to Kim W. for booking the Leaf Cottage for us. Very cozy with wood floors throughout, with the exception of beautifully tiled floors in the kitchen & bathroom, wood furniture, beautiful lighting... Ack! I want to live here! Breakfast every morning by the pool - bagels, croissants, scones, muffins, coffee, orange juice, fresh fruit, hard-boiled eggs... You can settle in around the pool or take your breakfast back to your cottage. And if you wake up earlier than 8:30 you can fix yourself coffee (and breakfast if you can't wait for food either) in your very own private kitchen. We booked in-house massages & I got the better end of that deal. My masseuse, Luce, was amazing!! Unfortunately, Kim's masseuse seemed to be hellbent on breaking the mood by being loud and scatterbrained. Fortunately, Luce's healing energy overcame that & at one point in my hour and a half massage, I actually forgot where I was. The Emerald is also very close to downtown Ojai. If the weather is right (as opposed to the blistering, scorching stuff we experienced) it's a pleasant walk. And there's a fabulous Farmer's Market every Sunday. Oh wow! This place is quite a find!!! From the moment I arrived I was awestruck by the beauty of the grounds. I stayed in the treehouse room. It was pure magic. The beautifully appointed room is beyond words. I slept like a baby and felt completely at home the entire time I was there. The beautiful bathroom and claw foot tub add to the charm and I took full advantage of the tub nightly. I would like to mention the people who work at the inn are very helpful and attentive. Also, the location is excellent with regard to the closeness to the downtown area. Yet, it is far enough away to be completely quiet and private. I made a reservation here for my daughter to take her for her 40th birthday to celebrate. We have stayed here a few times before and love the place. Imagine my surprise when I just got email confirmation for the BLUE iguana not the Emerald so I called not only could she not find my reservation but she quoted me a whole different price. I canceled the reservation and I will go elsewhere but this sure left a bad taste in my mouth because I was looking forward to this for my daughters 40th birthday. The girl even told me they would leave a bottle of wine and chocolates in the room for her and I know I had the right place because there's a cat named Mustache and we discussed how Mustache has disappeared and no one has seen him so trying to tell me that I called the Blue Iguana when I was speaking to the Emerald Iguana doesn't fly with me! I first visited this fabulous hotel 4 years ago, staying in a smaller room (possibly staying in the Grasshopper Room?) and fell IN LOVE with the ambiance of the hotel and the beautiful Ojai Valley. This visit, I am staying in the Cricket Suite and, O' Ma Gawd! This place just gets better and better. The small and quaint atmosphere of the hotel provides a very quiet respite and retreat of tranquility with so many wonderful amenities already thought out carefully for guests. There is a non-heated outdoor pool (visiting in January with daytime temps in the 60's, so have never used this) and a small/cozy hot tub for relaxation. A fresh "Ojai Breakfast" will greet you in the mornings consisting of boiled eggs, fruits, coffee, cheeses, muffins, bagels, and an assortment of other fine breakfast foods to jump start your day as you head out to hike, shop, golf, etc. The attention to details, from the gardeners to management staff, are amazing with bath products, robes, local reading, etc., provided. Be sure and take notice of the artful sculptures, paintings, and garden designs that fill the courtyard areas and pay homage to the tiled emerald iguana fountain near the hotel office. There is plenty of parking, wifi if you must electronically connect, and the downtown area is less than a mile's stroll away with plenty of dining choices. The Cricket Suite is nestled into the trees with an upstairs bedroom that offers a north and a south patio (yes TWO!) exposure and quiet places to enjoy your breakfast. There is a massive king sized bed and a corner single bed with a deep tub and shower and plenty of closet and drawer spaces to move into. The downstairs dining/living room/kitchen area offers a full kitchen to make your own meals and a 3rd downstairs patio. And the Hotel Cat, "Groucho", will assume you have opened the front door just for HIM to enter, so be aware he will make himself at home if you let him (he managed to sneak into the upstairs bedroom at 5:30am when we left a side screen open for air, scaring the daylights out of us until we saw him traipse across the floor and make himself at home - HIS home). You cannot go wrong at this hotel because everything is oh so right. read more

Outstanding quality, without the chi chi and attitude attached to a lot of places offering this kind of quality in cuisine, and a wonderful atmosphere. We spent a wonderful evening at Feast Bistro.The menu is rich in variety but does not overwhelm you. The food is delicious and I liked the healthy, fresh and local ingredients. The portions are appreciably big. The wine selection is great as well. Our server was wonderful and so were the owners who greeted us. AMAZING!!!!! We were so happy to show up here after a long long long drive from napa. felt like one of the terrible scenes from the long long trailer, but seriously, this place is an oasis. we will certainly be going back. i'm hesitant to even write this review b/c i don't want others in on our secret, but if it means that someone else joins in on the fun, then it's worth it. We stayed in Frog, it was HUGE, gorgeous, clean and so comfortable. Every little detail was beautiful and they even made a fire for us when they knew we would be coming in late. If I have to stretch to come up with a complaint I would say that there is no real 'view', as you are on the parking lot, however they've done an amazing job with the landscaping to make it feel as if you are truly the only people for miles. loved it. read more

THE LOCATION A good example of why it's a good reason to do some extra research. Going just by the website we booked a room at the Emerald Iguana, a converted suburban home at the end of a culdesac. That's just what this Inn is. Granted, it's charming, in a way. But the fact that it's a house in the burbs is hard to get over, which explains the small bean-shaped pool (capacity 10) and the "family of four" jacuzzi (capacity is actually 3). It is a chlorine jacuzzi rather than salt. I think they're using the same pool fence that was built with the original house. It seems they also purchased the homes on adjacent lots, so the property is large. The grounds are lush with vegetation, though a bit lackluster in landscape garden design. A good designer could do a lot with the property. That being said it might be great for someone visiting from France or Italy where the idea of a cozy cottage in an Ojai neighborhood is exciting. For us we felt more secluded with nature at our place in Westlake Village. I'm fine with converted homes if the neighborhood is historic or artistic, like the "Inn at 410" in Flagstaff. But this neighborhood is nothing like that, just a lower middle class suburb four blocks from main street OUR ROOM As for the room, quaint and small. It's the size of a suburban bedroom with an added vaulted ceiling. The bed was comfortable and plush, and the room was clean. The air con and heat worked well. The interior design was nice, though a little mish mash. All the wood items were stained different shades, gold swag curtains, bright abstract art and a cheap white ceiling fan. The bathroom was through a doorway down the hall with two other adjacent doors. We literally had to call the desk to ask if our bathroom was private or shared. the desk said the other doors should be locked and it was private for us. Okay fine, however when you're in the hallway you can hear everything going on in the rooms adjacent to the hallway. The water pressure and hot water is great. When the floor rug was next to the sink you cannot open the bathroom door, details details. The bedroom light switch is still adjacent to the hallway rather than being rewired to the entry door. The choice of wine and chocolate in the romance package was ok, although my love, a chocolate lover, was unimpressed with the Iguana logo'd chocolates. THE BREAKFAST Good choice of items to have at a continental breakfast, but to the observant eye you will realize everything comes from Costco. This is okay for the motel 6, but for a higher priced "boutique getaway" there could be a better selection of quality, organic or local goods. They use paper plates and plastic bowls and no recycling. We too came up for a romantic weekend. We always have fun wherever we go, but we actually thought of leaving early knowing how much nicer our home is than here. Design wise, it looks cheap. They do however have a Disney-sized iguana fountain in the entry way. LOL. Overall I give them credit for a good college try, but it's unimpressive. More of a Ojai novelty than anything. read more

A perfect little oasis just a few blocks from downtown! We spent three nights in the Treehouse room for our anniversary this past weekend and could not have imagined a more perfect retreat. The room is beautiful- furnished with unique, handcrafted furniture and artwork from around the world, has an amazing ensuite bath with double-person clawfoot tub, a private deck, fireplace, and beautiful views of the tree tops out every window! The staff remembered it was our anniversary and left a sweet note with a bottle of wine and box of chocolates in the room. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and maintained, nice little hot tub and pool (non heated) surrounded by rose bushes. Our only complaint was that we had to actually leave our room in order to do all of the other wonderful activities Ojai has to offer. read more

I was lucky enough to have the Treehouse for 4 nights - a lovely 2 story small cottage. A full kitchen enabled me to cook for myself - within walking distance of everything in Ojai, but hidden away. An amazing place where you will be left alone, and taken care of when you need attention. I had a great massage - you can call for a number of spa services. I must say that I'm quite surprised by the remarks of a few on Yelp. I've traveled the world (Japan, France, Italy, Monaco, Netherlands,, Germany, Korea, etc.) and repeatedly visited major American destinations (SF, NYC, DC, Vegas, etc.). I've stayed in world class hotels, and I've stayed in funky little B & B's and pretty much everything in between. All of this just to say that I have enough experience to be able to offer a reasoned opinion. We would return to The Emerald Iguana Inn anytime we come back to Ojai! (no idea why a small number on Yelp were so displeased....) We were very happy with our room (Grasshopper), loved the shaded gardens and the cute pool area, and got nothing but the most courteous and helpful attitudes from all the staff. The only complaint I would make is that since our room was right next to the breakfast area, someone swept for 15 minutes around 7:30AM. We had to get up anyway, as we wanted to take a quick hike but still get back in time to shower before checking out (from our hike, I realized we wouldn't make it back in time, so I called the front desk and they quite happily gave us a late check-out). I've stayed in B&B's that certainly offered MUCH more interesting breakfast options, but we paid a heck of a lot more for those rooms than the Iguana. My boss, who has owned a home in Ojai for a few years now, gave us the recommendation, as he's stayed at MANY hotels in Ojai prior to owning, and we couldn't have been happier with the choice (particularly after we went by the "other" hotels we had been considering....) read more

Just completed our 3 night stay and LOVED the Emerald Iguana. We stayed I the treehouse room which is above the office and has a lovely balcony where I drank my morning coffee. The bathroom had a huge clawfoot tub and neat light fixture. The place is tucked away in a residential neighborhood and extremely quiet. The only downfall is it is a bit too far to walk to town (then again I'm 7 months pregnant) but the town has ample parking so we just drove. Also the room is exposed to the morning light, so sleeping in was a bit of a challenge. But otherwise this place is SO perfect. Would definitely stay here again. read more

We stayed in the Treehouse and the bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom down a long steep flight of stairs and another shorter flight through the kitchen. The bedroom has a decorative uncurtained window so the room is never very dark and very bright early in the morning. I believe the other rooms have the bathroom on one floor, but if you need darkness to sleep bring a sleeping mask. read more
