The place is a boutique style hotel old and quaint. They've done some remodeling. They have everything you need to be comfortable. Beds were great, AC worked fabulously, shower was good. There aren't a ton of value oriented choices for hotels in Ojai -- they are either over-the-top expensive or a roach motel. The hummingbird inn is squarely in the middle. The standard double rooms are good sized even if they are sparsely furnished. The mattresses are new and reasonably comfortable, although the pillows were pretty stiff. The lighting above the sink is incredibly dim and the door from the toilet blocks the sink when it's open. But the room is clean which is the most important thing. There's a pool and fire pit. And you can borrow bikes to go into town. Would I stay here again? Eh, probably. read more

This was very disappointing at any price but especially when it's $475 per night. You are first greeted with an overpowering smell of mildew when you open the door to your room. The rooms are very dark with a lightly over the main room. I guess that can be merciful so that you can't see the chipped tiles and paint. The naked bulbs give it a prison like ambiance. Overall it's Motel 6 accommodations with 4 or 5 star hotel pricing. On the positive side, great location and friendly front staff. Just don't expect much from the property itself. read more

The inn has a quiet, peaceful vibe that made it the perfect mid-week escape. We stayed in a charming bungalow with only one other room attached, offering just the right amount of privacy. I had a wonderful stay at the Hummingbird Inn. In my opinion, the hotel was tastefully renovated. The lobby is cozy and curated and the grounds manicured. There is a lot of outdoor seating to soak in the sun and enjoy the serenity. The room smelled a little mildewy but that's understandable because it's an older hotel. Otherwise, the room was comfortable. I love the attention to detail: interior design/ color palette, dimmable and warming lighting, energy-efficient air-conditioning & heating, eco-conscious Plant Paper toilet paper!, and their very own line of bath amenities! I loved the body and hair care products so much so that I bought my own set. I enjoyed the complimentary morning coffee (Canyon Coffee) with the scent of burning palo santo. I look forward to my next stay! Other things to note: Parking is free. The pet fee is $40 per night, which includes pet bowls and a welcome treat. Pet relief lawn looks maintained. Once again we had a very nice stay here. There are beautiful views towards the mountains, downtown, and across the street towards the golf course. This complex backs up to a quiet neighborhood and its a great backway to head out and see the cool local houses towards downtown. The pool water temp was just right, the fire pit was great to hang out with other visitors, and the grounds were well kept with plenty of parking. The grass was nice to walk on, and the maintenance guy used a quiet electric lawn mower so you could hardly hear it! There are numerous tables outside which is nice too. The upstairs room we had was nice and clean and the bed was comfortable. Finally, there was a new girl working named Prya and she was wonderful, as was the rest of the staff. Prya was very friendly and informative on places to go and where to eat, etcetera. The only things I would recommend would be better water pressure in the shower, better lighting, a small table and chairs in the room along with a small dresser. I know it is nice to be minimal but I personally would have liked the few extra things I mentioned so I had a place to eat and read in the room and some more areas to put my clothes because I ran out of room and basically was using the floor. The lighting was a bit on the weak side for reading. I would increase the water pressure, change the shower heads to the style attached to hoses with a shut-off valve where the pipe comes out of the wall. In that way, you could decrease or turn off the flow of water instead of wasting water, and when you needed to rinse off, you could max it out. Just saying. ;) Other than that, it's a great place in a beautiful town that I'd recommend. read more

My partner and I are pretty chill travelers and splurged on the king suite here for our anniversary trip. There aren't many photos of it online (I think because it was recently renovated) but it was kind of a let down and the room definitely isn't worth $500 a night. The tub is gorgeous but we had some issues with the drain and the front desk person on our first night told us no one could fix it until 7am the next morning and we could try to stick a hand towel in the water to unscrew the whole drain, which we did but it made the whole room felt kinda wet and gross all night. The sheets were also pretty scratchy which is a huge bummer. Would probably stay here again in a cheaper room but for $500 a night we've stayed at way nicer places with tons of amenities. Not trying to be a hater but I wish I'd known more about the room before we booked it! read more

What's not to love? I had a two day seminar in Ojai and wanted to stay as close to downtown as possible. After doing a bunch of research I landed on the Hummingbird, pun intended. I was almost scared off from this place by the bad reviews, but I'm very glad I stayed here. I chose this place because it was the most affordable option in Ojai that allows dogs. Only certain rooms are dog friendly, but you can get one without paying the exorbitant rates that other places charge. I agree that the rooms are a bit sterile, but they're clean and comfortable, which matters more to me. And so nice and cool on the hot days! As many others have mentioned, they have renovations going on so it's loud during the day, but perfectly quiet at night. And free parking! The location is on the main street, but about a half mile east from the central shops. It was close enough that I could easily walk into "town" for meals and shopping. i had the most incredible time here. the property is absolutely stunning, pristine and peaceful. i stayed in one of the casitas and would highly recommend! everything was clean and really aesthetically pleasing. beds are comfy, shower is great! didn't get to swim, but i hung out on the loungers for a while. towels are provided & there are floaties! there are picnic tables around the property to sit and smoke at too. the lobby is beyond stunning too! in the morning there is great coffee & tea too. honestly a great price for the space and amenities. for real, i could stay here for days - and next time i will! read more

We love this place! Life gets busy so we don't make it up to Ojai often but this is our place we like to stay at! Every member of the staff we have ever been in contact with are super friendly and welcoming! The lobby area is so tranquil and pretty. Our room was very clean and the bed and bedding was very comfortable! The entire place just gives off just a great vibe! The pool area is so relaxing. The lounge chairs are comfy and there is a nice fire pit area. The pool was clean. We met some super nice people while hanging out before going to dinner. My boyfriend and I had such a great experience here! Hummingbird Inn is perfect for an authentic experience in Ojai. It's simple and quaint, clean, nice rooms, and in a great location. When going to Ojai it's all about being a part of the simplicity of the culture and this was perfect for that. It's nothing fancy it's just cute and charming. I loved the minimalist renovated style of the bathroom and bed. The porch in back of our room was adorable with the most spectacular view of The Valley. The staff were really friendly.. it was such an easy process to get in and out with just a punch code. The hotel was really quiet and I felt like we had privacy. The pool was adorable. Depends on what reason you are visiting Ojai. If it's a business trip, then I would highly recommend this place. Unfortunately, there was lots of work being done to the property. Not many people here during the week. It's close to the town about 17 min walk, which is nice. It's towards the east side of town, near the residential area. I can't say I loved the room, there's not much comfort, kind of sterile to be honest. No view, no cable tv, no coffee maker, you have to go to the lobby to get coffee. The Wi-Fi went out during the middle of the day for a few minutes. Just a wee bit of an inconvenience. No room service unless you request it. In the evening we were able to sit outside the front of the property which is a plus. Some rooms have a balcony but it's also very sterile looking, just a bistro table and two chairs. The best and only part that I can not complain about is the bed. It's really comfortable and so we're the pillows. So yes the cost was satisfactory but the room was not inviting. Also during the night, you could hear the noise of water running. We didn't talk to anyone during our stay, except when we checked in. The front desk is not very friendly. Just kind of dry and uninterested. Would have preferred paying more for a more comfortable room and better service with a coffee maker inside the too. read more

Had a great stay at this place. I really liked the natural light and simplistic vibes in the room. That is how my home is, so it felt very homey to me. I loved the sitting garden out front, beautiful weather to just sit out and enjoy. This hotel is good location, and even walking distance from some local restaurant. The hotel was under construction while we were staying and that was back in July so I am assuming it should be completed or at least close to complete. I would have given it a 5, but I was on a ankle injury while staying there and while the room was very open, the toilet and bathtub could have been a bit more handicap accessible. I don't typically write reviews but this one deserves to be shared to save you the hassle. I had two of the worst nights of sleep I have ever had at this place. I was on the bottom floor. When anyone above you takes a shower it sounds like a tsunami is coming through the ceiling. My first night there were people partying through the night and then a young kid crying at 6am followed by a barking dog in the room above. My second night I was woken up by the guests above having a shower at midnight and then having a domestic fight that led to furniture being thrown around and a woman screaming for help. Another guest that was woken up in the room beside me called the police. No coffee in the room, not a fan. Will not be going back. You should not pay more that $100 a night for this place. read more

Overall this is a great bargain "IF" you get a deal. Came on a one night $89 Groupon. It was a good value but had I paid the full $129.99 for the deluxe patio room I would maybe felt different... Also they have a YELP check in at $20 off regular room rates. So since the GROUPON is for Sun-Th you can check in Sat get $20 off the room then use your GROUPON the next day! See now that's Gangsta' The room as nice. It was renovated with a nice flat screen. But the bathroom was old like everyone else seems to add. The patio was filthy. Dust and leaves all over furniture. And since it wasn't quite pool season yet (March) so the pool area was also a little meh. The hot tub is a nice feature and is open 8-10pm. They take dogs for additional $20 and they make you upgrade to the "dog" room which is conveniently $20 more so a dog is technically $40-50 more depending on the deluxe rate. The breakfast on a Sunday is non existent. The Holiday Inn express looks like a Vegas Buffet compared to this place. Waffles only on weekends which was a bummer. You basically get yogurt, toast, and coffee. Overall come on a deal but look around because I checked into other nearby places on YELP offering deals and such. Capri Inn was once. These are all former motel 6 ish type places with a Home Depot makeover. If you're looking for a deal which we were this was great. And although they were perfectly nice, albeit a little spacey, this place is run by high school girls most of the time. I imagine it's cheaper than full time employres. Pros: Location, view, quaint exterior, terrace, walking distance from downtown, dog friendly. Cons: Expensive, noisy if downstairs, dilapidated bathrooms, squeaky floors, no glass mugs, no coffee or tea, no coffee or tea maker, week Internet, no paper pads to write on, no soap dish, no COVID-19 cleaning material. No amenities, room phone, . We were excited to book two nights at the Hummingbird Inn for a much-needed getaway after the months-long COVID-19 lockdown. The website pictured a quaint looking inn with a pool. It is just outside of Ojai within walking distance from downtown. If the first night, Thursday, was somewhat reasonable at $109, Friday was priced at $199. It sounded like the kind of price I would put for a nice inn. The reality was otherwise. As soon as we walked in, we noticed there was no glass mug to heat up water, no coffee maker, nothing to make tea or coffee. There was a microwave oven and only three tiny paper cups at our disposal. The TV was disconnected. I had to reconnect it. The bathroom toilet bowl was scruffy and worn enough to be changed. The bathroom door had stains on it and cracks at the bottom. You can see outside from the side of the AC unit through a crack in the wall. The upstairs neighbors walked heavily keeping me up the first part of the night. We went to the pool and were handed towels. Mine had three holes in it. I wanted to take a bath but noticed there wasn't a tub water stopper but the mechanical system wasn't working. The tub looked old and had been repaired a few times. Upon a closer look, I noticed that what was under the bathtub didn't look clean though for a bath. I took a quick shower and noticed the shower head was also worn out, not dripping evenly anymore. If TV isn't your thing, as it is with us, forget about streaming anything on your computer or tablet. The Internet is slow and not that reliable. After what we've been through with COVID-19, we needed a break and were tentatively excited about spending money to getaway. What we weren't expecting was to spend $200 a night for that kind of condition. I'm a journalist and travel all over the world. I'm used to sleeping in all sorts of hotels from Asia to Europe to the US, from high to OK quality. If the economy keeps on turning the way it does, these types of "inns" need to seriously up their games. There is no way I would have spent that kind of money on this inn if I would have seen it before. read more

Clean, safe, clean, safe and clean. The Pandemic has really been a bummer for everyone and it has made me a little bit iffy in staying in hotels and motels. We needed a quick getaway and need fresh air so we found Ojai and found this little gem. Few things that made me feel and comfortable staying here. 1. There's no hallway to to get to your room where you feel like the air you're breathing is not circulating. All fresh air right when you walk out. Rooms are bungalow style. 2. There's no elevators to get to your floor to the hallway to your room. No death trap just fresh air. 3. You're not sharing vents with your neighbors (that always freaked me out in hotels.) Also If you have a patio even better, make sure to ask for a patio. 4. When we walked in, it smelled cleaned. (I love smell of bleach to me it indicates clean). 5. Check in was safe. 6. Very close to town you can walk or use bikes. 7. During the pandemic they aren't cleaning your rooms, but they are giving fresh towels upon request. We just brought our alcohol spray and brought wipes for extra precaution. I honestly would stay here again and a little disappointed with low rating because I love it here. It's not pretentious it's like a mom and pop inn with a lot of love. Stay here, I recommend it. read more

Our beds were super comfortable, very warm, the room had vinyl plank flooring and was extremely clean. Comfortable pillows, comfortable sheets and blankets. We had a little patio outside of our room. I appreciated the rooms are unique with vaulted ceilings and clerestory windows in the bathroom area. This is a true value to the property and sets itself apart from other hotels. It's not your cookie cutter box hotel room. Comfy beds, clean & comfortable country-beachy chic room interior. Room has HD tv which was nice because a lot of hotels skip this expensive upgrade with their TV suppliers. My only gripe was the bathroom and the overall smell of an old building with MILDEW. If they could upgrade the tubs, the room would be perfect for me. I also noticed my window didn't have a screen. FYI: The building is lacking a proper smoke/fire alarm system and doesn't have fire sprinklers. Other room features: mini fridge, microwave, hair dryer. The room didn't have a coffee maker, ironing board/ iron, but they offer them at the front desk. EXTERIOR: Quaint old building with dated grounds, uneven parking lot, and very dimly lit walkways. I would be more comfortable with a few mor lights around the cars and stairways. Even with my gripes, I would recommend this place to all my friends. 1. I live in a converted sprinter van. 2. Said sprinter van has had mechanical issues from time to time. 3. Due to repairs, I've had the pleasure of staying at Hummingbird Inn at least 4 separate times in the past few months, for a total of roughly 8 nights, all on the upper floor. Just a quaint, no-frills, comfortable experience all around. Friendly staff and breezy check in/out experience. I like the huge blue-tiled counter tops, they're super cute and have tons of surface area. Also a spacious desk. I've stayed in the 2 queen bed and the 1 king bed rooms and both have plenty of space. The beds are comfortable and the water pressure is great! During my most recent visit, the WiFi dropped a few times and the water was shut off for about an hour (management sent out a text message about it), but other than that, it was a great experience. One gripe--I recall that a couple of the rooms I've stayed in have no hooks or racks to hang towels (i think they broke off), which is pretty inconvenient. Also I wish there was a hot tub!! read more
