This was one of the worst hotels/inns I've ever been in anywhere. Toilet didn't work. It kept drawing water and trying to fill the tank so the fill valve/float wasn't working. But I fixed it temporarily. Light over sink didn't work. It wasn't needed in my Honest opinion. But it wouldn't light up. The 4 bikes that were supposedly available to us were all broken. Missing pedals and chains, etc. I just rented a bike from a decent place a few blocks away. There were 2 tv remotes , 1 of them worked, but I couldn't find a FIFA game on any channel. WiFi network of Chantico works at front desk only. I had a Chantico-guest network available in the room but no password worked nor was one provided. There was hardly anyone at the front desk at various times of the day. Absolutely nobody there at front desk after about 10pm. I can't figure out this $41 charge on my credit card, and nobody is picking up the phone to answer. Parking is weird because you have to do a 5 point turn to turn your car around to get out. It's angled parking but no exit on other end. Just the pool at the other end. Positives: Walking distance to everything. Clean bed. Breakfast , which was continental/minimal, was fine. Pool and jacuzzi was nice. Cute place. Obviously, the positives don't outweigh the negatives. I'll never stay here again. read more

Stay here at the risk of being defrauded! I booked with the front desk in early March for a room for one night in April. I booked a month ahead, and I want to stress that this was with the front desk, not with an outside travel agency. Confirmation of the price was sent to me via email. In April, I checked in and paid at the price they gave me and confirmed in writing. When I got home from my trip, there was an extra $50 dollars charged to my card. When I inquired as to the added charge, they simply said that I was undercharged for the room, that they had mistakenly given me the wrong price. However, I stressed that the price I paid was the price that they had agreed to. Also, they never mentioned anything about undercharging me when I paid for the room; it was only after I returned home that they took the liberty of charging me extra. This didn't matter to manager Jennifer. This is very unprofessional, and simply put, just a stupid and unethical thing to do from a business point of view. It appears that they have financial problems: the sink in my room was plugged and the mattress is old; also oddly, there is no one on the premises until 3pm and no one there in the early morning, so does that mean that they have no night clerk? They cut corners and overcharge customers that are not regulars. This is low-class, third world treatment in an upscale town. In my opinion, new management is in order if they want to stay in business. There are plenty of other hotels and B&Bs in town that don't feel free to mess with your credit card when you're not looking. read more

For the price they charge(over priced), but more like a motel stay. The rooms are old, the bathrooms are old and small, the furniture is old, and it's not being up kept as it should. We had a hard time sleeping, as there were loud noises from the water pipelines during sleeping hours. You can hear people speaking outside late into the hours. The bathroom was not clean when we checked in, because the cleaning lady was on her own. The pool towels are old and have stains on them. Was very disappointed. Don't get me started with the breakfast options. I would not come back here. Like I said...comparable to a motel. read more

Website said checkout at noon, morning of checkout they let us know it was their mistake but real checkout was 11. We had to shower so asked for a late checkout and they said no even though I offered to pay their late checkout fee. Wife and I went back to the room to shower and we caught the housekeepers peaking in through the windows to see if we were there, no knock on door. Was super creepy. Toilet also didn't work. When I let the manager know their message to me was sorry, not sorry, leave a 1 star review if you have to. Will never be staying at this property again and recommend you don't either. read more

Very cute hotel! Got a Santa Fe vibe with the talavera tile, colorful ceramic pottery, and rustic furniture. Love that it was close to town center with parking included. No one at front desk when we arrived early so we walked around premises. Saw that bikes were available. Each room had a little patio in front of front door. Two open sitting areas on second floor. Since we arrived on Monday, felt like we had the whole place to ourselves! We got room #7 which was 20 steps to pool area. Clean pool and extra large jacuzzi! Pool noodles and floats free to use. Rooms included mini fridge and microwave. Vons down the street. I couldn't give a 5 rating because mattress was too soft for me, decor needed some attention and a handyman was sorely needed to fix drawers, doorknobs, frayed lounge chairs, etc. Our room included Jacuzzi tub which we didn't try. Included beakfast which was very filling- bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, oatmeal, coffee, juice, and milk (would have liked boiled eggs for protein) in dining room with fishtank, bird cage and fireplace. Didn't see many workers except for housekeeping but didn't really need anything except extra towels for the pool. Highly recommend if you want a "route 66" kinda place without the price tag of other hotels nearby. read more

Cute Spanish style boutique hotel located walking distance to all the cute shops on the Main Street. There is a market nearby in case you need snacks on your way to a picnic or cold drinks on the way home. The continental breakfast here is convenient and the dining area is cute. There is a pool and hot tub, perfect for evening hangouts with a loved one or a book. This is our second time staying here because we had such a lovely stay the first time. read more

Do NOT book this place thru Expedia! They have "additional" charges of $35.74 per night for their "resort fees". The poor girl in th front seemed like this happens all the time and then Called her manager to explain this to us- but it's no where near the Expedia rules nor were we told ahead of time. We absolutely loved our stay at the Chantico Inn! The room was beautiful, comfortable, and such a relaxing place to come back to at the end of the day. The entire property has a charming Spanish-style feel that makes you feel like you're on a true getaway the moment you arrive. The pool was amazing--perfectly maintained and such a peaceful spot to unwind. Everything about the inn felt thoughtfully done and welcoming. A huge thank you to Parker for his incredible customer service--he was so helpful, kind, and genuinely made our stay even better. And Jen, the manager, was absolutely amazing as well. Great location, a short beautiful walk to the downtown ojai area. A park is right next to the Inn perfect if you have a dog. The room was cozy. All the staff was super sweet! We were having problems with our car and the staff was even trying to help us with that! read more

The first room I had had no connection to the TV or Internet. You had a TV and the TV turned on, but there's no way to watch TV on the TV. I requested my money back. They said they can't give it back to me but moved me into a room which did connect to the Internet and Il had a TV. However, there were used empty water bottles on the cabinet, a jet tub with a large mirror in front of it, a stained glass window that when you shut the lights off illuminated, and there was no way to turn it off and there was hair and a clumpy white substance in the toilet. Service: * Emailed twice prior to check in with a question, no reply. * Called twice upon arriving early to property to ask when my room might be ready, no return phone call. Noise: * Road noise loud, noise from parking lot also loud. * Leaf blower on property at 9:15am Monday. * Extremely loud fitness class noise coming thru back, bathroom window . * People drinking wine on shared balcony next door, talking so loudly I could hear them over my TV. I gave it 30 min and then asked if they could take it down a little, at which point one of the woman walked over to my window to yell inside my room about her hearing aids in a (maybe drunken?) belligerent manner. * Extremely loud fitness class noise coming thru back window Monday morning. Upkeep: * Broken bathroom vanity drawers. * Leaking freezer. * Dirty, torn bed skirt. Privacy: * There were what appeared to be shutters in other windows, on mine, just dirty, old curtains that weren't really wide enough to block light. * Because people are constantly walking by the rooms on the shared walkway, if you're stuck with curtains your choice is darkness or no privacy. Pool: This is actually why I picked this hotel over others in a similar process range, but I wasn't able to use/enjoy because: * First day: Pool full of about 10 people who knew each other playing volleyball in the water for hours. There was no room or time at all for anyone else to enjoy the pool. * Second Day: Man sneezed directly into pool right in front of me, wiped nose with the back of his hand and then immediately rinsed his hand in the pool. He also said he'd seen roaches? Two teenagers going that there was poo at the bottom of the pool. Disgusting. General: * When I was packing my car this morning I came upon a crumpled pair of men's underwear in the middle of the shared walkway. I just don't even know what to say.... No one was at desk to ask about my stay, thank me, nothing. Sorry for not having nicer things to say, but I would never stay here again. If I had been charged your weekend rate I would be appalled, as it is I feel pretty upset to have payed for this, to be honest. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE. I was double-charged a pet fee for my SERVICE animal, and management never returned my calls or e-mails after I saw the charges and made several attempts to contact them. I was refunded one of the pet fees but not the other. It is ILLEGAL to charge a pet fee for a service dog, but the lack of response by the manager is even more deplorable. It could have easily been resolved with an apology and a refund, but instead I had to report them to the ADA, BBB, and the city of Ojai. Unbelievable. (Side note: they also charge a fee if you book through a 3rd party which is NOT DISCLOSED. They will not refund, period. Poor service all around.) read more

We had a horrible experience at this place. Our room had a quirky layout. The sink was outside of the bathroom, in the main room. One of the pipes under the sink developed a leak and it gushed hot water across the floor. While I stayed in the room trying to get everything out of the path of the water my husband went to the main desk. Luckily someone was there, (it is only staffed for a short period each day). Also luckily there was a different room available for us. We didn't think there would be openings at a different hotel, it was a busy weekend. Unfortunately, the next room had a dirty floor. I walked across the floor wearing white socks. My socks turned black. The bathroom had live spiders and a dead beetle on the floor. The screen for the bathroom window was warped and the window was left open. The mattress and pillows were not comfortable. The room had a musty smell. I woke up the next day with a sinus headache, I assumed from my mold allergy. Chantico Inn needs to spend some money on regular maintenance, upgrades to bedding and mattresses and cleaning. Overall, I can't recommend this place to anyone unless you want an unhealthy, unpleasant and uncomfortable stay. It's not worth saving a bucks , make your reservation elsewhere. read more

Friendly staff but unethical business behavior on their part. For Valentines Day I wanted to surprise my wife with a hotel that had an indoor jacuzzi. We've both been working hard and needed a rest. I paid top dollar for a room with a jacuzzi and when we went to turn it on that night, we found not only that the Jacuzzi did not work, it did not even have the buttons attached to the unit!! The next day I found out they knew about the problem but did not bother to warn me or adjust the price. Then they gave me some phone number to call claiming it was the manager but instead was a macine recording saying the mailbox is full. No return on the text message I sent either. Please, do yourself a favor and go to another hotel in Ojai. They may be pricier, but worth it. read more

Terrible experience. We tried checking in to find the lobby completely locked at 6pm. We called the cell phone number posted on the door and were told we could not get a room despite having a reservation for months. Other guests called for check in and were told to use the MASTER KEY, left right at the entry to let themselves into their room. This key that could open any room was left in plain sight. After 1.5 hours of waiting, a front desk person returned who bad mouthed the wonder and we were checked into a room with a broken faucet. read more

Dirty. Sketchy. Smells like cigarettes. No customer service. Overpriced. No one at the front desk after 4pm, so don't lose your key and if key doesn't work (after 4pm) you're screwed. Keys work sometimes. Bed in room 12 is dangerously high. No hot water. Noisy. Wouldn't stay here again even if it was free. Run away from here. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Unless you like filth and bedbugs. I wish I could give it no stars. I believe the positive reviews are fake. Booked the hotel, based on photos, for an overnight stay as I was working in Ojai. I checked in, the room was tiny and full of oversized furniture, dirty and felt like I was in a hoarder's apartment. I, reluctantly, left my bags then went to work. When I got back to the room, after work, my card key didn't work. No one was at the front desk. No one answered the phone. The manager on duty didn't answer phone or respond to email. I had to find another hotel. My bags were still in the room. Went back in the morning to pick up my stuff. The woman at the front desk said it was my fault the card keys didn't work. They accepted no responsibility and I have not received a refund. Stay away from this place. read more

This is our annual "romantic couples weekend / DIY spa retreat / soak away the world" spot. Or so we thought. Night one: fiancé gets dibs on the tub (fine, love is patient). I'm already mentally preparing my bubble bath, lounge pose, and main-character relaxation moment. Just as he's getting out... knock knock. Front desk: "Please don't use the bathtub. It's leaking into the room below." Reader, when I tell you my soul left my body. So let me get this straight: * I paid a premium specifically for this bathtub * The tub worked long enough for one soak * I was then banned from using it for the rest of our stay * And absolutely nothing was offered to make up for it No apology upgrade. No discount. No spa credit. No "we're so sorry your dreams of bubbles and serenity have been crushed." Just... "don't use the tub." Which, again, is the entire reason we stayed here. Lovely location, charming vibe, but if you're booking for the bathtub fantasy -- beware. Turns out it's more of a decorative suggestion than an amenity. It was alright. Some of the outlets and lights in my room didn't work, the sink was very slow to drain (plus the faucet was weirdly too far away from the actual sink, so sometimes water spilled over) and the WiFi didn't reach my room. Hot water all the time though and they have a lot of apps on their TV. Free breakfast everyday but it was mostly bread, cereal and coffee. One concern was that my key was able to open a room that wasn't mine, so not super confident in the security of the place. But overall, I had a roof over my head and bed to sleep in so can't complain about that. I've definitely stayed in nicer hotels though. read more

Great place to stay in Ojai! Me and my boyfriend had a great time staying here. Our favorite part was the heated pool and jacuzzi.

Stay started bad: after I checked in I got a phone call from someone off-site that my card was declined, although it was approved at the desk. Turns out a previous card migrated from hotels.com even though I presented a new card at the desk. The kid on his second day working there didn't recognize that so I ended up with a hold on one card paying with a different card. The pool has dead bugs in it, so we had to clean it with the net. There were people using the pool that weren't guests. The breakfast couldn't pass at a motel 8. When trying to find replacement batteries for the TV remote at the desk, we had to call someone because there wasn't anyone at the desk. $850 for a two night stay with service this terrible: avoid at all costs. read more

I went for my birthday back in February. It was a cute little place. Sort of an older model version, with cute gate and doors. There was a jacuzzi in my room which was super nice. They had a pool with a hot tub outside with an orange tree hanging off the side. Very much a Mexican decorated place, with tons of little decorations that are much appreciated. The fruit was fresh in the morning and the breakfast was made every morning while I was there. The girl at the front desk was helpful when checking me out, told me that I could get better rates if I book directly. It's imperative that you book through them and not through a third party, you get better rates. Just a tip. :) I would book here again. read more

We stayed here for a quick 2 night stay Oct. 7 and 8. The room was nice and we seemed to like the place . Other than a housekeeper and son who did the odd jobs around the only person who we could deal was a woman named Jennifer. Herein lies the problem. We booked our room through hotels.com. $683.04 for 2 rooms for 2 nights. Ok I suppose with taxes, fees plus a $100.00 property fee on top of that. Then the insult arrived with our credit card bill yesterday. There is a mystery charge of $58.20 x 2 for a total of $116.40 with no explanation given. I have tried calling and could speak to no one...only an answering machine. Naturally she doesn't speak with me to explain the mystery charges. Iam sooo frustrated. We arrived early before check in, our room was not ready, we were there for the Annual wine festival, so we arrived late that evening , they had had a flood in the laundry room, the parking was full And our room was full of linens, but Jen the manager was soo nice and sweet We really didn't care, she showed ours to the jacuzzi, we got individualized care!! I'm sorry... I never like to leave a not-so-great review, but I want to look out for my fellow travelers ... It was odd that NO ONE works the front desk... they leave hand written numbers on post-it's for you to call (even upon check in- that kept us waiting a good 30 minutes). When I called the random post-it number for more towels and wash cloths (no housekeeping) I was NOT greeted warmly and asked if I had already used my pool towels ( not placed in plain sight- and not ideal). The property is not maintained. I do not mean to ruin this place - you just need to know that there are faucet stains of (mold) running congruent to the stream of water in tub. Microwave was not in working order - I don't want to say more - I'm not angry, just want to be real for people coming after me. read more

Some of the issues we had were: there is literally no one at the front desk until 3pm, the room definitely has a musty smell, there was hardly enough shampoo for 2 people to use and again, no one at the front desk, the headboards were not attached to the bed and made a horrible noise when we moved. I don't even know where to start....the front desk clerk was lovely...although she took my ID (even though I had already uploaded it online) and forgot to return it to me...but I got it the next morning. Bed was comfortable...so bonus there. It was the only hotel in Ojai where I could book just one night and not 3...bonus. But it is really run down and pretty nasty for $350 a night. Breakfast was included...a little odd....you can make your own waffles...there was a plate of eggs and ham...but you aren't supposed to take it back to your room (but there are only 3 tables)...where should you eat?!? read more
