Always a great time playing a quick round at Emerald Lakes! This is the closest course to me so I come here pretty often, and yet each round is a fun challenge. They change the tee boxes often so it feels a little new each time. The greens aren't level so it's by no means an easy course, but well maintained and super friendly staff. In the last year or so, they've made a ton of improvements - new seating and Trackmans on the range, updated range ball dispenser, updated pro shop. It's super nice to see them putting in love and care into the facility! Love having such a nice course so close to home :) read more

I'll be honest the first time I played here I was just starting to play and lost so many balls in the water. Pretty discouraging and humbling. But now that I've been playing longer, I really appreciate the challenge. The course is well maintained and the staff is friendly. This was the first time I ever played at Emerald Lakes and seeing it, playing it, I give it 5 stars! First of all, I was playing with 2 other Senior Ladies with cart (Senior discount w/cart was very reasonable for 18 holes, playing the 9 hole course twice). The young man behind the counter was very polite and helpful for a first timer. (I had to come back in to ask about where the 1st tee was, if we were playing on time and if they had ball markers with their logo (they don't have those anymore). The course itself is in great condition (lush grass) and the greens are slopey and fast. Each tee was well marked and easy to follow. Pace of play was good until the second round, a threesome got ahead of us and were slower. I always seen this course driving to Sacramento and always wanted to play there. Glad I did and I'll be making future tee times. This is a gem of a course!! read more

My husband called this past Friday to reserve a tee time, they confirmed our booking for today at 5:45pm. When we showed up 10 minutes early they claimed we never called and reserved our spot. They didn't have our name on the schedule and said "we have nothing available tonight." This was pretty disappointing since our friend took time off work to join us so he expressed his disappointment. They even read back our booking confirmation after we booked earlier last week. So where did our reservation go?? Our friend told the receptionist how upsetting this was and the man threatened to call the cops if we didn't leave. We were blown away of how unaccommodating & unprofessional this man was. He immediately got defensive and claimed we never called. We usually enjoy this course but I don't think we'll be returning. Management definitely needs to consider teaching proper professionalism amongst their employees. read more

Driving range does the job! Simple, lots of space, and decent price. It was around $16 for #150 balls so I was abe to get a good hit in. I do say some improvements for the driving range is to have more areas to sit in the shade. More maintenance on the mat would be great just to make the hitting experience fluid and consistent. I would love if there was just more seats to sit down on. Overall, its a great range for the price. Coming here on my weekends to practice (even though I'm no where near good haha) has been a fun experience! read more

The wardens of golf assistants denied taking my groups balls. They were at our 4/9 holes to pick up our balls until we yelled and they dropped them. Had some time to kill while visiting family, so I decided to check out Emerald Lakes Golf Course in Elk Grove. It's a nice, open space with a full golf course and a driving range on one side, which is great if you want a bit of both. I bought a medium bucket of balls, but unfortunately, they didn't dispense. I went to the front office, and the sales rep was super helpful, coming right out to fix the machine for us. As a bonus, they ended up giving us a basket for free, which was a nice touch! There's also free parking, which is always a plus. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and I'd recommend stopping by if you're in the area and want to hit some balls. read more

I would get friends the range card for the holidays and I guess this is the year they didn't do it. The employees told me that it's bed a long time thing for like 20 years and this was the year they didn't do the annual range card. They seemed more bummed than I was lol. Young heavy set guy with long brown hair wearing glasses who was running the pro shop on Veterans day morning does not know what he is doing and needs training to improve. Couple minutes before my tee time I heard this guy announce my tee time on the speaker system so i was early and ready to tee off and I understood I was joining a twosome that was running late. First hole was clear to tee off and I did to keep the pace of play and the latecomers could eventually catch up. This pro shop guy rides his cart out to tell me that he did not call my tee time and I should go back and wait in an argumentative way. Ok what was that you muffled couple minutes before my tee time on the speaker system. Were you announcing the weather conditions. His lack of professionalism, customer service and experience led me to getting a refund so I can take my money to Bartley Cavanaugh golf. They provide a way better overall experience starting from the pro shop. Emerald lakes is run by Matt. Not a place to spend your hard earned money and get treated this badly. read more

Simply one of the nicest golf courses I've ever played and I'm talking about the staff as well. The guy in the pro shop was extremely polite and each time I go, they're the same. Really appreciate how they let us play a few more after we played our 9 holes but wanted a bit more. Not a lot of course are cool like that. This is only my 3rd time playing there but I love the course. Keep up the great job here guys! I can see why it's always busy. Paid $52 to play behind a group of 6 (5 first timers taking a group lesson) on a Saturday with groups backing up behind them. When I called the pro shop I was told they don't allow more than 4 players and would let the Marshall know. What a joke! There were 2 groups watching them on the 3rd hole as they all took 6-8 shots each. Zero etiquette, zero pace management, and they got away with it till they finished all rounds. The instructor ( whether their employee or some random guy) claimed he did this every Saturday. Say no more. We'll never be back. I've never seen such blatant disregard for the game and players at any course. Slow play, sure it happens but this was brutal and I should have left at #3 and requested a refund. read more

Pros: Love this place. Excellent practice facility. Putting green excellent. Chipping green excellent. Driving range balls in good shape. Practice sand trap a little sketchy bcuz it's in an area where you might get hit by a wayward shot from the driving range. Course is fun and challenging for a nine hole course. Greens are in great shape and tough to read. Lots of water hazard challenges. Driving range is shaded with tables and umbrellas. Cons: The driving range grass area is ok. The problem is the mat portion; It is in horrendous condition. Large worn out areas where your feet make contact, mats are disconnected from the hitting areas and cannot be reconnected bcuz the dowels that connect them are broken; hitting areas are extremely worn out down to the rubber backing; rubber tee areas are worn way down, and the mats are curled and stick out of the mounting pads. As you look for a good area to hit your golf balls , they roll back into the worn out areas ! Distance signs could use some attention too. The rest area behind the range stalls allows smoking and the smoke and vape from smoker's lungs, nose and mouth drifts into you; Gross! Gross!! Gross!!! No real food operations so you should be prepared. I really love this place and it is heavily utilized and played. If they would address the problems with the worn out mats and smoking it would earn a much higher rating. read more

If I was to give the course a rating it would be a 3 1/2 but today I'm actually giving my review for the PGA Pro instructor Don Thames who teaches here. My wife has been setting up the kid with instructors and he had lessons from pros from two other golf courses in the Sacramento area. Now that the wife has started swinging her clubs again from a 17 year hiatus, she wanted lessons of her own and contacted Emerald Lakes. There, she was hooked up with PGA Pro Don Thames and when she first mentioned his name to me, I didn't recognize it and thought he would be like all the other unknown so called pros. When she showed me his website, I saw a picture of a leader score board with his name and it immediately jarred my memory because his name is spelled just like the river. He was one of those pros that I would watch on tv with my parents. Don Thames really gets involved with his lessons and really wants his students to learn and improve. He's the first instructor that would actually hit the ball as part of his lessons. He gave us different tee set ups and what flight characteristics the balls would take and by golly, the balls would actually fly as he described. It was amazing to see! I've never seen an instructor actually demonstrate hitting the ball.....never. Don really loves the game, teaches with enthusiasm and will boost your confidence. I'm sure he can help your game IF you're willing to watch, listen and learn. My wife said Don will teach you the correct golfing mechanics, BUT will work with whatever idiosyncrasies you have to improve your game. The wife just doesn't have the flexibility anymore so Don made adjustments to her swing but the kid's body is like Stretch Armstrong and is learning the right way. Young or old, I recommend giving him a try. May all your balls soar like eagles and days be filled with birdies, but par days are always welcomed over bogies. FORE!!!!!!! read more

Interacting with Randy and especially Cody have been my worst experiences at any golf course I've ever been in my life. I'll be taking my son out of the operation 36 lessons immediately, I'm going somewhere else whether I get a refund or not. Professionalism is not part of the culture of this "golf course". We are new to the area and live a few minutes away, I was planning on keeping my son in lessons and practicing here indefinitely. I like to up from 1/2 stars to 4. I notice the last few times I've gone, they've made some pretty noticeable improvement on their staff. I no longer see that guy who smokes in front of kids and always try to solicit people. The biggest impact is without this staff, his rude friends who come for hookups and free balls no longer show up. Now its a much cleaner and family environment. A normal and enjoyable course gone sideways... This course has been a go-to for my friends & family for the last 3 years. It's a great course and it's maintained very well... My last visit, today, was one of the worst. It wasn't the course conditions, the heat, or pace of play. Instead, it was the Marshal named Joe. I took out 3 people to tee off at noon today. All was going well, enjoying my day and having a good time when Joe came around. At this point, it was not of any concern when he stopped to talk to us, although it was on hole 1 so somewhat strange to stop and ask us to pick up the pace of play. Sure, we can pick it up but we were waiting for the group in front of us... Joe wandered off to the next group, we thought he was going to remind them to pick up pace, perfect for us as we were waiting for them most of the 1st hole into the 2nd. He came around again a few holes later and I told him again that we were waiting on the group in front of us... It wasn't until home 3 that everything took a steep decline. We sat on hole 3's tee box for about 5 minutes waiting for the group in front to hit off the fairway a safe distance in order for us to tee off. Joe was behind us watching us, yet again, as we all teed off. On my second hit, laying on great drive around 250 yards out, Joe comes up to us and tells us AGAIN to pick up pace of play... At this point, I reminded him for the 3rd time that we were waiting for the group in front of us... He began to argue with us because he didn't believe me. I told him to look forward at the group in front of us who was on the green to point out that we're right behind them. He said there's no way that we're waiting for them. I explained how I could not tee off till they made farther progression. Thank goodness I did because where I landed, I would have hit them... He then made a disrespectful, snarky comment saying "You can't hit that far, there's no way" when we were only 250ish yards from the tee box... Who says this? Customer retention, who? What kind of Marshal says that let alone judging another players game when they are on the clock... I told him to leave me alone and that he was ruining my Sunday and he continued to talk to me. I had my wife just drive away so he would stop harassing us... We got to hole 4, lo and behold... here comes a Marshal... but it was not Joe! This marshal did not stop to say anything as I assumed he would've considering Joe and I just got into a dispute. He did not stop for us and went directly to the next group, who we were waiting for AGAIN, and i'm assuming told them to pick up pace of play... Anyways, this was a very distasteful experience. Our total play time for 9 holes was around 2:03-2:10. This is a decent time and, to me, does not warrant being harassed 3 times by a Marshal. Hopefully this is a new Marshal who will improve his understanding of the running of a course because if he's doing this to other players, he's going to push away customers. I enjoy this local course too much to discontinue playing but Joe needs to have a serious self-reflection moment. read more

This is an outstanding golf facility managed by the municipal CSD. The practice range is too notch. There is a chipping green as well as a putting green Both are in excellent condition. The electric carts are new. The 9 hole course is in just remarkable shape. The greens are manicured to perfection. The only issue I have is that the flags on the green are all white no matter where the hole placement is. It's just a head-scratcher to understand why there isn't the standard blue, white, and red for the placement. Please consider replacing them. Thank you. read more

I feel bad for the poor fellow that visited this course in February and wrote the most recent review. My visit was the exact opposite. The course is an executive 9 holer and plays a little over 2300 yards. The course was immaculate. The pro shop was fully stocked and my interactions with staff was just fine. The course is a touch expensive at $30 for 18 without cart but I did not feel too bad as the money spent was obviously being put into the course. All the greens were fast but fair. The course was lush. Water came into play on 5 holes and I would have to say 9/18 is my favorite hole on the course. Playing 362 from the back it will make you question whether taking out your driver is the right course of action. A large pond dominates the right side of the hole. If you try to stay left and go a little far you will end up in the shrubs and trees. The hole demands accuracy and distance control. Overall the course was in fantastic shape. It was well maintained and made for an enjoyable day for this hack. read more

Course- The condition of the course is absolutely outstanding! Gilbert and his crew have done an unbelievable job with the course over the last six months to a year. The playing condition of the course rivals courses in the area that cost hundreds of dollars a round. Staff- After a few adjustments the current staff here are wonderful! Watching Natalie develop and grow an almost nonexistent program to what it is today is inspiring. Range- brand new range mats and shiny new range balls. Grass area and practice area is well taken care of, and the practice green rolls pure. Overall- if you've read my previous review you know I'm one of this places biggest fans and harshest critics, but after having my doubts they have proved me wrong! Tried to make tee two tee times directly in pro shop one week prior. Woman in shop said they didnt have anything available. I literally walked out of pro shop and booked them on golfnow. Not the first time this has happened with same employee. Upon arrival for todays rounds, other pro shop employee said there may not be carts. I didnt hear the question so I asked and the woman (who couldnt book the tee times previous week) said very sarcastically "or you can walk." I like the course and most employees but this one has left a very bad impression on several occasions. I have never complained or been rude in the past. Unsure why she seems so un-accomodating. read more

I typically do not provide reviews; however, I have attempted to speak with Katie, the manager, to let her know and there was no return call after four attempts. Four of us arrived to play, two were returning patrons. We were waiting to go on the green when a young guy started complaining to us that the girl in the pro shop doesn't know what she is doing. He was very frustrated! We offered to let him, and his group go ahead of us. He let us know he worked there, and it was fine. He was visibly upset with the employee, and we were happy to let him go ahead of us. After a single it was our turn. My group began playing and the disgruntled off-duty employee came up to us on the golf course asking if we paid for four. I explained that we did and how much we paid. He left and immediately turned around and wanted proof, not believing what we paid and wanted our tee-time. I showed him our confirmation and asked what was wrong. It was clear that our party was announced as four. He looked through my phone and allowed us to proceed. Approximately 1 minute later a gentleman approached us and told us we needed to hurry up and "play by the rules." He suggested we play "scramble." We had barely been on the course due to the interruptions. We played the first hole and ended up waiting on the single ahead of us, which is at times expected. We allowed the two playing behind us to pass us since they only had two golfers as a professional courtesy. Once we got to the fourth hole the group with the off-duty employee showed up and drove across our field of play on their golf carts. The second gentleman who approached us apologized and indicated he was responding to a complaint from the group with the off-duty employee. I attempted to contact Katie, the manager, to discuss and she would not return my call so other patrons would not experience this blatant disrespect. It was obvious the off-duty employee worked there, and it was obvious he was there to impress his friends, at our expense. I am so sadly disappointed that this gem of a golf course is tarnished by a lack of decorum. read more

Great little golf course. Is it Pebble Beach? No, so don't try to rate it as such. This is a family friendly golf course that is great if you are just starting out in the sport or if you want a less-threatening environment in which to teach or learn. The staff is always really friendly and not too many of those golf snobs who ruin the sport for those trying to ease their way into it. In terms of difficulty I would say the course is great for practice with some dog legs, traps, and water alike. Not to mention the course is nice on the eyes. Again, if you're looking for just a quick 9 after a day at the office or whatnot, or you want to play where you won't get kicked off if you're learning the sport, I would recommend this course. Disgusting customer service. I would rate the course four stars. But, the customer service was horrible. Emerald Lakes golf course as well-maintained and one of the top nine hole golf courses I've played. There are power towers on some holes Which makes a difficult game a little harder. Whoever was working in the pro shop on September 2, 2020 in the morning was very rude and totally unprofessional. We are all out playing golf to have a good time and enjoy our friends. Just finished a 4 week golf lessons for my son. And let's say that I won't be enrolling my son in golf lessons here anymore. Most coaches, if u call them that.. are nice but aren't really helpful with showing fundamentals of golf. While having time with my son, they are often staring off to see how they are going to run there lessons with other kids instead of focusing on my son. This goes for all kids. I noticed that they dont give that individual time that is needed which don't really take long. I get it. A class with a bunch of toddlers can be chaotic but it's best to show and give attention to each individual when it's their turn. And lastly. Ben. Idk what to say about him. For some reason it just seems like he doesn't even want to interact with my son. My son is behaved and will listen to instructions but for some reason. I noticed Ben will often leave him out which makes me very upset. Like when he was passing out clubs. My son patiently waited for one and Ben passed it to all kids in front of him except my son. Then at the end of class all kids waited in line for their cookies. And again when my son was in front of Ben , Ben skipped him and gave it the kid behind him. Which resulted my son walking out of line to another coach for one. read more

First off, I've never played a game of golf in my life. But I can hit the ball 200+ yards on 7/10 swings so I come to the range sometimes. So if you're a person who just wants to casually try hitting at the range, this is the perfect place for it. I can't speak to the actual golf course. The rate is $14 for 150 balls, which is a damn good deal. Should last 2-3 people awhile, and if it's just yourself...you'll be there awhile. Just go into the shop, tell him how many balls you want, and he'll give you a code to redeem the balls at the little machine. Very simple. Don't forget tees if you want to use the second driving range in the back. As far as driving ranges go, it's pretty barren and simple. I wish it had more distinctive features, but I'm paying less than $5 when I go with my buddies, so who am I to complain? Range closes when it gets dark. I like that it's casual enough not to worry about looking stupid when you both whiff and do the obligatory Happy Gilmore swing. But there are also people there who take the game seriously. The court could use some updating, but for the rates they charge it's what you expect. If you temper your expectations, you won't mind it one bit. read more

Stolen clubs beware! ! i golfed there all summer, fun little 9 holes. but will never go back. I had 2 clubs stolen there. I found the person who actually stole my clubs, and confronted him with the marshall at my side. the guy was drunk and a regular. the Marshall proceeded to kick him out and i retrieved 1 club back. 6 Weeks later I see the same guy back there! I inform management he is back, and tell them he was kicked out for stealing clubs. The manager said the marshall is not allowed to kick him out, and proceeds to tell me that they have had problems with people stealing drivers and other clubs there. he offers me a free round of golf, and is more concerned that the marshall does not have the authority to do this. This place is shady and it is not worth loosing a 500 dollar club, or any club because the manager is too scared to do his job. I also had to file a stolen report on my own, to get a club I will never see again. I never write reviews, but it is not worth getting clubs stolen. read more
