No matter how hard a company plans, no matter how much effort to do right goes into making the customer happy, sometimes things don't go exactly right- especially when you can't control nature. The DIFFERENCE between a GREAT company and all the others is how they react to problems. I was not happy with the amount of weeds I still had and the large dead patches in my grass as we moved into mid-spring. I felt my yard had never looked so bad. Once I shared those concerns with the people at Emerald Lawns, they sprang into action. I had always thought that your lawn was something that ran by the numbers. Follow a simple plan and your lawn will be great. Not true. Your lawn is always in flux. It's never done. It has its peak times and its down times and the same things aren't always going on- drought, weeds, types of weeds, infestations, erosion, and other environmental factors make it so your normal lawn care doesn't cut it. If you want results, hire another company. If you would like a response when you fill out requests for a service call, hire another company. Customer service and results have gone way down hill. I'm constantly requesting service calls and constantly following up on those requests when a week goes by and I don't hear back. The most infuriating thing was some guy calling me repeatedly to sell me additional services when I still couldn't get a call back about my service request. Twice now the same guy has done that and acts totally confused when I mention I've been waiting over a week to hear back from someone on an issue. My next door neighbor and I share a front lawn, both lawns were full of weeds, tell me why Real Green has theirs looking like a pristine gold course and mine STILL looks a mess in JUNE. (Didn't even hire Emerald lawns late, they've been our provider since last year). read more

This service turned out to be a complete waste of money. I spent over $1363.87 so far this year (just started in April) and my lawn looks like crap and the mosquitos continue to chew us up. My lawn looked better before I had the service. I had an issue with lawn fungus the previous year so I decided to try a service so that they could stay on top of it. Several times I had to call and ask for a revisit because of brown spots. They would schedule someone 3 days after I had requested them to look, by then the brown spots had grown larger. Note that the brown spots would appear after their treatment. Now my back yard has a huge ugly brown spot that they have treated but remains. Had I treated my lawn on my own, I could have had the treatment on the day that I noticed the brown spots. Having Emerald Lawns servicing my lawn got me nowhere, in fact my lawn looks worse than it did last year at this time. I would not recommend this service to anyone. I also had Mosquito treatment through Emerald Lawns. During the drought of summer it worked okay but as soon as the rain started again, we can not go in the back yard without being chewed to pieces. They would provide a treatment and I would end up going to the grocery store and buying Yard Guard to knock the mosquitos down. What is the point of paying for mosquito treatment if I have to keep paying $40 a week for yard guard? This treatment is also a complete waste of money. I would not recommend this service to anyone either. read more

When we got our new house , we wanted to get the backyard into proper shape. We heard great reviews from neighbors and others about Emerald and decided to go for them and just as we did that the problem started. We called the sales person for evaluation in early march, I think may be Feb end. He gave us a quote and we decided to start the service next week. We gave him a call on Monday, he mentioned it will be done by end of day, called him again on Tues, same response, called customer care on wednesday, they apologized and said it will be done by EOD , finally my wife had to call the sales person on Thursday 3-4 times to get us on boarded. We were told , once we are in system it will take 3-5 days for first service. We didn't hear anything from Emerald lawn for 2 weeks. Mind you this delay ensured we were already in April, with whole of March with no lawn care, weeds start coming up. Finally after much cajoling, we got our first service in April 2nd week. The person who came over was nice but told us , since we are already in April and weeds have already sprung up, there in no use of pre-emptive weed treatment and they will do feed and remove process for weed. Also he said we cant do that today and i need to do a weed followup request. I have been calling them for weed treatment and followup from April 10 onwards. So far no one has come for service. Its May end now. Very very frustrated with their service. My lawn is no way better than how it was in March, infact, me and my wife , we are having to do our own treatment as no one from Emerald has any interest in anything. It may have worked for some people, and their service may be great in some areas, but for us in Lakeway area it has been a horrid experience. Highly NOT recommended. read more

Got a coupon in the mail and wanted to try the service. They sold me on getting aeration and top dressing for two hundred dollars. I came home to find only my front yard had top dressing. I called the office to inquire and was told the quote was only for the front yard. I reviewed the paperwork from the salesman who wrote the quote and there was nothing about the front yard only. Based on that any reasonable person would assume the quote was for the entire yard. I called the office again after verifying the paperwork and was told I would have to talk to the salesman. After a couple of days without hearing back from the salesman, I called the office again only to be told they would once again deliver the message to the salesman and now Its been five days and still no word back. Shortly after my post I was contacted by the owner and he was very apologetic for the mixup. He offered to do the top dressing but I had already done it. He said the situation with the salesman was addressed. He offered to adjust the amount I owed and I'm good with that so I changed my rating. read more

First, let me preface this by saying they are very nice, which I believe goes a long way. That said, with a service where results are expected, I believe they fall short. I had their service for a little over a year. At a prior property, I used TruGreen and I found their results were a little bit better, but also lacking in some regard. For this property, I saw little to no difference in the quality of my yard. In fact, I would venture to say that my yard looks worse than many of my neighbors, none of which use Emerald. I don't know if this because my lawn simply didn't respond to the treatment, or if weren't applying it effectively (most visits were over in 5-7 minutes). All I can say is that it did not work, it was obvious that it wasn't, and the tech never made any mention of this, other than to say I have dog traffic (which having two Labs, I know this). On at least one occasion they said they did the entire yard but I know for a fact they did not as my wife and I both work from home. Finally, I will mention that they say they do spot treatment for broadleaf weeds. Maybe they do, but they certainly didn't for me. Missing a few here and there is fine, but missing big ones that are obvious and right in the path of where the tech is walking shouldn't be missed. This wasn't a one time miss but an ongoing one. As I imagine they are dealing in volume, getting in and out quickly is likely the name of the game. But when you rush, quality suffers. Perhaps you'll have a different experience. As it stands, despite them being nice folks, I can not recommend Emerald Lawns. read more

Brand new to San Marcos, and not even a customer, I feared the worst. Know what? They came out, treated our yard and charged us the same rate as a current client, not the "rack rate". We signed up. Very happy with them, and especially one technician - Carlos Mata. Young man, professional, friendly in a quiet way, passionate about my lawn like it was his. He recently (23 March) came out to treat for weeds in an otherwise still dormant yard. He was meticulous, efficient, and although he worked quickly, he took what time was necessary to do the job right. Very careful to treat the weeds and not overspray other vegetation, I was very impressed with his work. ZERO damage to the grass, shrubs, flower bed plantings, trees and other plants in the yard, DEVASTATING impact on the weeds. I was a new customer and signed up because of a promise in an email from their sales guy (James Illian). Missed in signing agreement that it was at odds with the email. I then asked about it via website contact and they quickly preformed the service after the inquiry, but before answering/resolving it. They invoiced at higher price than email. I called and talked to Melissa. They had the email from their employee, BUT management said "well you signed the contract so we are going to ignore the email" Went back to the neighbor that recommended them and they said "Yeah, we are having trouble too and had to stop the service and would advise you to do the same" After finally talking to upper management it was credited. I really hate writing negative reviews. I prefer to contact the business, discuss the problem and come to a quick, reasonable solution. Unfortunately, that's not been possible here. We contacted Emerald Lawns about a year ago to maintain our grass in our backyard. We had a large circle that kept growing large -- (something called Take All Patch, we think.) We were tired of trying to manage it ourselves. Our backyard is shady. Our salesperson assured as that they could help us have a healthy lawn despite the shade and take all patch. My suspicion is that while meaning -- this was erroneous. I'd be really careful in talking to their sales team as they likely overcommitted here. I was tired of doing it myself, I explained what I wanted was someone else to maintain it -- and to contact me if additional services were necessary (fertilizer, aeration, etc.) I am no lawn expert so I decided to trust them. We installed new grass, new soil, aeration, fertilizing and basically anything that was recommended at the tune of several hundred dollars (we did this independent of Emerald.) . We then turned it over to Emerald to maintain the lawn for almost 9 months. Fast forward to today, it is painfully evident that our lawn is completely dead. The first problem with Emerald lawns is I didn't receive the service I payed for -- my lawn was not maintained. It is dead and no one told me it was dying. The second problem is the lack of communication. Did not the service people identify an issue with the lawn over so many months? If not, what was I paying for? This, for me, calls into question the expertise and training of the people who are doing the work. About a month ago, I was home when a technician came to spray our lawn. I stopped him before he started and asked: isn't it pointless to spray if there is no lawn left? He agreed. He was pleasant and said he would make a note and have someone contact me. I was never contacted about my concerns. I was however, left an invoice for a service never performed the next day. This clearly indicates another issue with their service: they prioritize billing over service. I called Emerald lawn three different times over three weeks and asked to speak with a manager. I told them I would be happy to hold. I was told that this wasn't possible: they would pass on a message and someone would call me back. I waited for more than a week and called again and even then was told that I couldn't talk to someone - someone had to call me back. I mentioned Yelp - the negative reviews - that I'd prefer to not write one and to talk with the owner directly (who responded to others here on Yelp). No action from anyone after that for days. Finally, I am scheduled to talk with someone at my home next Friday -- someone finally called back after more than 3 weeks of me trying. I am taking off time of work to talk with someone. I've shared with the representative what I want to remedy the situation: grass. Please don't make an appointment and come here if what you'll offer me is selling additional services. I want what I've paid for: grass! Their lawn service is comprehensive and tailored to my lawn's needs. The staff are consummate professionals and very responsive. Especially James, Greg, Brad, and Clayton. James' customer service is without equal. Greg's attention to detail is fixing my weed problem. They even have a liquid aeration that is as effective if not more effective than mechanical aeration without the risk of damaging my sprinkler system. Clayton and Brad completed a comprehensive irrigation inspection, adjustment, and programming to ensure my lawn was watered properly without wasting water. I called on Emerald Lawns because my yard had a lot of issues. Just bought my home in Georgetown in January and the old owners put a new Bermuda Grass lawn down last summer. Come spring time there were issues with weeds and crab grass all over the place. Emerald Lawns came to the rescue and slowly but surely they've made my yard beautiful. It is a slow process so you have to be patient. You don't just throw some fertilizer down and next week your yard looks like new. I also had some ugly spots for a bit (where they were killing the crab grass) but again you just have to be patient. The thing I love most about Emerald Lawns is that you're under NO CONTRACT! I can't say enough good things about them. I highly recommend this lawn company to anyone who is looking to get their yard looking beautiful. Updating my review with some pictures. The only bad thing is I don't have pictures of how ugly my yard looked before Emerald came and made it gorgeous! The first time I called I was told that someone would call me in 2 to 3 days and the second time the person said "oh, Angela hasn't called you? - I will send her a message right now". I went to Truegreen.com/lawn8 and filled out the information AND WAS CONTACTED IN AN HOUR. Unfortunately, after the initial follow-up call I received with a voicemail, I returned the call a while later never heard back again. I called both the quoter and the office/receptionist separately to follow-up. The salesmen is recommending service and never stepped foot on my property. prices were quoted for the entire yard, but they only treated the front. they would not adjust the price even after I had the text message where they admitted quoting the wrong price. I wish I could write a review, however, the promised evaluation never happened. I filled out a request for an onsite evaluation. Received a call from Ed several days later (a Monday) asking if I received an estimate via email. I checked and there it was - for a full season of lawn care, approx $1,140. I told him I wasn't interested in a complete program, just an evaluation of possible invasive grass and treatment options. He told me he would come to my property by end of day. No show, no call. Tuesday comes and goes - no show, no call. Now it's Wednesday and I don't expect a response. Unfortunately, this is a prime example of what is an increasing problem with customer service. Often, businesses offering services would say "no job too big or too small". Now, it is more like "the bigger, the better" (read more $$). Small jobs are just not worth the time and effort and they don't care about the loss of potential clients. Update - Today (see Wednesday above), received several phone calls from different persons. A regional/sales manager did come to my property to discuss my issues and offer solutions. At least I got a response. Will make a decision and proceed from there. read more

I attempted to manage my lawn myself and had some success but only repairing damage done by the previous company. Today, Emerald Lawns performed an Irrigation System Check as requested. Ryean Colby, the irrigation technician, checked out my entire system. He walked each area with me in tow. I was very impressed with his knowledge of the system. He took his time explaining the issues I have in each area and with my limited knowledge of the way things work, all his recommendations made sense to me. He capped off a line for me and set it up for my future use. He showed me exactly what to do to put it back in service. That was great. He gave me an estimate for the work that needs to be done and, in my opinion, the price is quite reasonable. He also told me how to program my system to keep it running efficiently. I've been an Emerald Lawns customer for some years now and I really hate that I waited so long to try out their irrigation service. Ryean was very professional during his visit and I really appreciate that. I will be requesting the recommended repairs and I hope he is the one to do them for me.
