I could smell sweetness as I was walking towards the candy store…read more They had lots of taffy, including freeze dried taffy. I had to get a bunch. Then I noticed they had my favorite chocolate that melts in your mouth Ice cube. I was excited to get a few. It was 1.00 each for the tiny cubes which I didn't mind paying for them because they're my favorite. I would've given higher rating but I did notice the place was pretty dusty, and some of the candy seemed like it was sitting there for a while. They did have a good selection if old school candy though. What made the rating even lower was when I ate my favorite 1.00 chocolate ice cube. It looked old, and tasted old. Had the waxy and starting to look white like it's been sitting there a while look to it. I still ate it, but it was just not the same melt in your mouth feel. I think the service could use some work also. But it's a small town older gal sitting behind counter looked like she was falling asleep. I don't blame her it was a beautiful warm day, and I was sleepy also. Young man helping us had a big smile the whole time. Seem friendly enough. Not sure I'll go back but it was fun to see all the old nostalgic candies.

There is a nice assortment of candies and at the front by the register they have chocolates that you can purchase. The only downside is the inconsistent offering of samples. When we came in yesterday, they were offering 2 samples for customers. Today when we went in, they said they weren't offering any samples.

At the time I was there there were only 2 alternate choices to dairy: mango sorbet & lemon poppyseed frozen dessert. Since I can get the mango at most grocery stores I went with the lemon poppyseed. Good choice as the lemon provides a zesty punch. The base of this non-dairy "ice cream" is coconut milk. Not because they told me, but because I can taste the coconut. Also, there are some teenie tiny nuggets of coconut oil (Remember coconut "oil" is solid at room temperature). I got a single scoop. However, it's large. Sitting in an 8 oz cup in such way to require a domed lid. Much, much tastier than your average lemon poppyseed muffin. Those are seem to be artificially flavored and bitter. If I'm buying a poppyseed muffin I go with almond ones. In addition to my surprisingly good "ice cream", the store sells oddles of candies. Lots of good chocolate. I picked up a novelty candy purchase, a tin of Bob Ross, happy little tree mints. That's a semi-gag gift for my BFF. Nice place to wander around & bring some sweetness to your day.

Update a year later :…read more Ice Cream after dinner. The sign says 64 flavors , but i think reality is 30. Again. after two years, No Chocolate. Chip. So Rocky Road, it includes marshmallows and nuts. Single scoop, the size of a baseball. I dropped a Quarter in the water game device on the counter and it landed in the center on a bullseye. So i won a free second scoop $ 8.00 free scoop. GO FOR IT! Now I know how big two scoops are, HUGE. !! Can't pass up being a winner. The Guy behind me worked this counter for 3 years and said He had very few coin drop winners. Like almost None. The line is long and slow and the ice cream is delicious and a generous serving. Wait for it ! After a day at the Kite Festival.

Within seconds we were treated with outright disrespect by an elderly woman near the salt-water taffy. She immediately started shaking her head at us and then made multiple inappropriate and disgusting comments -- within less than a minute: - "Is this an insane asylum or a sane asylum?" - Telling my 12 year old daughter and niece to "close their legs and keep them shut." Speaking to CHILDREN like that is beyond inappropriate--it's disturbing. As we were walking out she went behind the counter and started opening & shutting cabinets as loudly as she could. We didn't even stay a full minute before leaving because of how uncomfortable and disrespected we were. No family should ever be made to feel like that walking into a business. If this is how customers, especially kids are treated, then Scoopers doesn't deserve anyone's business. We will never be back.

Listen. If you ever find yourself wandering through the salt-kissed mist of Cannon Beach with sand…read morein your shoes and an ache for something sweet in your soul, go ahead and duck into Schwietert's Cones & Candy. It's a sugar-slinging time machine. Shelves groan under the weight of taffy in colors that don't occur in nature and fudge dense enough to warp gravity. I had the ice cream. Two scoops. Marionberry Pie and Mountain Huckleberry. Both from Tillamook, which around here is less a brand and more a benevolent dairy cult. These berries are like edible postcards from the Pacific Northwest. One bite and you're knee-deep in a foggy forest thinking you hear Bigfoot weeping quietly from joy. Of course the prices are high. You're in a town where the beach views are free and everything else makes up for it. The real gamble is who hands you your scoop. Some of us got generous lumps the size of a toddler's fist while others looked like they'd been served a sample. Such is life in a democracy. The lines wound throughout the store, but it moved along at a respectable clip. People were smiling. Sugar does that. All in all, this is the kind of place that doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is. A temple to nostalgia. A sanctuary for the sweet-toothed and sunburnt. Four stars. One star held in reserve for the day someone figures out how to standardize scoop sizes.
