We brought our sick dog into the care center. It was well after noon, and he had been laying around and had not eaten at all that day. By the time I arrived at the care center they had already ran tests on him and informed my spouse that our dog tested positive for Parvo. I was terrified and emotional. The employee stressed how sick our dog was and explained how parvo leads to death. They suggested leaving him there so that he could receive fluids around the clock, the cost was $6,200, which would be due the same day. I considered it but ultimately decided to take him home and try to nurse him back to good health myself. They then suggested that I euthanize him. That's when I started to feel as if they just wanted to make money. I took him home, nursed him a night, took him to another vet the next morning where he DID NOT test positive for parvo (makes sense because he was fully vaccinated, although I am aware that vaccinated dogs can still contract the disease). They sent him home with antibiotics and fluids. I am happy to report that it has been weeks, and my dog is fine and has returned to great health. Had I listened to the staff member here I would have been out of thousands of dollars, or I would have put my boy to sleep prematurely which is heartbreaking every time I think about my experience here. read more

North Central Veterinary Hospital 5 STARS!!! On July 2, 2017 my BIG Baby Brandi went to heaven She had surgery on Wednesday, June 28,2017 to remove several tumors and she also had a ovariohysterectomy (removal of the ovaries and uterus). Afterward she became very ill and could not keep food or water down. I took her to an North Central Veterinary Hospital in Highland and they did all that they could do for her. She had numerous health issues unknown until now. For four days she was in bad shape and so I made the hardest decision I have ever made in my life. I had her euthanized so she would not continue to suffer pain. *tears* I LOVE YOU FOREVER BRANDI Thank you so much Doctors, Nurses and the entire staff at North Central for the love and care you have shown during this sad time . I have to say that this place has the kindest staff. They work so hard with you to help save your pet. This is a business at the end of the day so it cannot be free and sometimes the life saving procedures price will make you just as sick as your pet, but they will help finding you financing and payment options to make it possible. Also, saving your pet here is their priority even if it's not with them the staff and doctors give suggestions and information where you can find help for a lesser price if you're able to wait safety for a procedure. I could not wait ...didn't want to risk it. The communication was fantastic as always. The ladies at the front desk that discuss payment bend over backwards and compare best choices for you. Sometimes you just get a great group of people together and it all just works. Do not recommend this veterinary center at all! Please bring your dog anywhere else but here! On 7/11 I brought my 4lb Pomeranian (5 months old) into the office for a suspected foreign object (dog treat) in her throat or stomach that had been there for approximate 1 day and a half. Upon x-rays and blood work, I received a call from A doctor here that stated that based on x rays that the treat was stuck in her esophagus and that because the treat had been there for "a long time" that the tissue in her throat was dead from necrosis and that a specialist would not be able to perform an endoscopy to retrieve the object. She recommended euthanizing my dog and discouraged any hope I had that an outside specialist would be able to help. She said even if the the specialist tried the endoscopy they would not be able to retrieve it and the prognosis of surgery was extremely poor. She basically prepared me to say good bye to my dog. She left me with no hope, just all negativity. Not wanting to immediately give up on my puppy I asked for a vet center that had specialist able to actually perform an endoscopy. She referred me to the Premier Vet Center in Orland Park. Once I arrived to Premier she was admitted and the specialists were called in shortly after to perform the endoscopy. I was a complete mess and crying when I handed over my puppy because based on North Central Vets prognosis my puppy could not be helped even with the procedure she was still going to die. I did not sleep the whole night visualizing what my life would be after my puppy Being gone. My anxiety was Also through the roof waiting on my phone to ring from Premier Vets to update me on her procedure. I was prepared for them to tell me they could not retrieve the treat and that the tissue in her esophagus was dead As North Central Vet said. 2 Hours later i received a call from Premier Vets in Orland saying that my puppy was doing perfectly fine and the procedure went great. The specialist was able to break the treat down and push the remaining pieces into her stomach to be digested. she said the specialist thought that her condition would be way worse based on what North Central said but that wasn't the case at all! She also mentioned that her throat was only a little irritated And soft food would be needed for 2 weeks. This outcome was the exact opposite of what North Central diagnosed! Where did North Central get necrosis from? They don't even have an endoscopy to confirm that the throat tissue was black and dead! how can north central make such a confident diagnosis when you are not qualified or Even have the tools to do so? Seeing that this was out of her range, she should have passed me to the specialist before telling me that my dog should be put down. how can the prognosis be so different between these two vets? Clearly North Central was above their heads and had no idea what they were talking about. they showed no compassion towards me and my puppy and on top of that were completely inaccurate. overall, I do not recommend this vet. they cause me so much unnecessary stress and anxiety when in reality once I consulted with a much better vet group, the problem was very minor and correctable. imagine if I had taken their advice and not consulted with another vet I would not have my puppy today. read more

We found this vet out of desperation at 1 am on the Sunday of Mother's Day weekend. They had a full parking lot and only one vet working so it was pretty busy but that did not stop them from delivering compassion, empathy, and the best care to our little pup who was dealing with a pretty bad laceration on the eye. Owners do have to stay in their cars while their pets are seen for covid precautions. They did a great job with calling us and updating us every step of the way. They were very up front with costs and ended up coming back with a total that was lower than the original estimate. Very reasonable prices for emergency services. Great job with the stitches, also! I was terribly scared for our pup and Megan was wonderful in keeping me calm and making me feel better about the situation. I needed help on a Sunday when my dog was vomiting blood. I called everywhere within an hour of me in Illinois and he was turned down at 4 places, and given a possible appointment over 8hrs later at another place. My regular vet texted me and told me this location. I called and they immediately said of course he can be seen. I drove out and he was seen quickly, everyone was so nice, and I really felt like everything was done thoroughly and quickly. I appreciate how the nurse was loving on my nervous dog and genuinely seemed to enjoy him, and that when I called in a panic, you calmly and cheerfully said "of course we can see him today" Yes, it was expensive, but I don't believe it was any more expensive than any other emergency vet, and I do believe I got great care. read more

Our 2 Havaneses ingested rat poison. After inducing vomiting, we took them to North Central Veterinary Emergency Center to be treated further. While the wait in the parking lot was very long (7 hours!) the team was courteous and responsive to our calls and check-ins. Once our dogs were seen, the veterinary doctors and staff were amazing. They explained in detail courses of treatment for each dog and kept us informed along the way. They showed compassion and competency. Both dogs had to stay overnight to receive treatment, IV fluids, and monitoring and recovered by the next evening. While moderately expensive, we highly recommend this ER to anyone in need of capable and compassionate urgent care. read more

I cannot say enough about North Central Veterinary Emergency Center. My 15.5yr old dog had taken a major turn for the worst, on a weekend, when our regular veterinarian was closed. I knew I had to have her put down, so she would not have to continue to suffer ~ so we went to NCVEC in Highland. The two staff members that we met were so wonderful with us. We have never had to have a beloved family pet put down before, we were so sad and upset, and they treated us and our little dog with so much love & respect. The procedure was much quicker than I had expected, and the staff offered us more time with our dog both before and after the procedure which I thought was very thoughtful. I wish I had gotten the actual veterinarian's name ~ she was a super sweet, soft spoken young lady who did her job beautifully-- I wish I had thanked her more than I probably did. I felt so sorry for the staff thinking of how often they have to work with such difficult cases ~ and see such sadness so often. We opted to get my dogs ashes back to keep, and they also made a free imprint of her paw for us. If you ever need any emergency care, during off business hours, for your pet ~ I highly recommend going here. The clinic was very nice, very clean, and the staff was wonderful. We took our dog in for vomiting and lethargy. We explained that the dog had not been eating or drinking. The doctor prescribed an antibiotic not really knowing exactly what was wrong, they seemed to be guessing. The dog did not improve because he could not keep down the tablets. The dog should've been prescribed liquid antibotics to increase the chances of him keeping it down. We called back to give report and ask if his medicine could please be changed to liquid because scribing tablets for a vomiting dog was their error. The doctor refused and stated we would have to bring the dog back in which is 150.00 AND purchase the liquid, so essentially buying the medication twice even though it was bad judgement on their part. Very disappointing and unfair. All they had to do is simply change the prescription and have us pick it up...we were willing to pay for it even though that doesn't seem right; but to refuse to change the script without us paying another 150.00 just seems like extortion. Please beware if you take your dog in for GI issues to please ask for liquid meds instead of tablets because this place doesn't use good judgement. I've been in healthcare over 20 years and we know if someone cannot keep down food, then meds should always be liquid or injections. I guess they are unaware of this basic rule, it is the same whether human or animal. read more

Ran a lot of unnecessary tests on my cat. Didn't give me enough antibotics, and when I asked for more....I even said I would pay for a full consultation, as they knew my cats issue very well....I had just been there a week earlier and spent over $2,100 on my cat. They said no...they wanted to do more tests, just to make sure. Rip off. Then they promised to call me back, three days later I still haven't heard a peep from them. I had one great experience w a wonderful Dr that showed kindness, compassion and intelligence. Today was the exact opposite. Dr was rude, condescending, insulted that I had a stray cat for 2 days and applied a few homeopathic treatments that have been around forever. I do ton of animal rescue and researched and read best options for the cat as it presented. I brought a typed out list of what I had done so they would know why she looked a little better. I had the cat 2 days and just spot washed her wounds and put an antiseptic ointment, bag balm, on her skin abrasions from scratching, not bite wounds! Left w no real answers and was told it's best for the half dead cat I saved to find it's owners. Starving, flea bitten, has the appearance of mange, no bottom teeth, ears so swollen they're almost closed...and I need to find the owners bc I'm kind of an idiot!! I left there feeling very sad that that "Doctor" is allowed to talk to any person that way, but someone just doing their best to spend time and a ton of "ER cost" money on a stray is treated like I'm the problem in this scenario. I will ask which drs are working next time I have to go there. If this dr or these two drs are there then I'll just have to drive 100 more miles and try another vet ER. Maybe their Westville location has nicer Sunday Morn drs that don't think they can walk on water. read more

This place fraudulently Euthanized my Australian Shepherd that I had raised from a puppy and owned for six years. My evil brother-in-law, out of spite, brought my dog there after visiting 3 other facilities who refused to put down an obviously healthy dog that hadn't bit. This place did not ask any questions or check his chip or federal emotional therapy registration. Had they done so they would have discovered that my POS brother-in-law wasn't the owner. I visited this facility once released from the hospital and was told that it's not their practice to verify details such as this. As you can imagine I came unglued. They apologized profusely however it hardly makes up for murdering my beloved dog who didn't deserve to die and be mass cremated. read more

NEVER take any animal you care about here. We thought our dog was having a seizure. After seeing her for 5 minutes they told us she had a brain tumor and that we should euthanize her. We didn't. THEY HAD ALREADY SHAVED HER LEG FOR THE PROCEDURE. They ran no tests. Didn't take blood. She's home with us over a week later and doing fine. They never even checked on her after we left. We took our little dog here because our regular vet was not open on Sunday. From our first call inquiring about administering an end of life procedure for our ailing pet, to the moment we walked out the door grieving, each staff member was wonderful in their own way. It was a sad day, but they treated us and our dying pet with love and compassion. If they treated us in this manner with no prior history, they must be equally as caring for their regular customers. We had an emergency visit to the North Central Veterinary Emergency Center last weekend. The techs were fantastic. I was hysterical and they calmed me down and took care of my boy. He was out 12 hours later, but kept a close eye on him until they felt it was safe for him to leave. On New Years morning I knew my dog was seriously Ill after eating a branch of our Christmas tree and could wait until next day for treatment. I called around but nothing was opened or I was told they were full and not taking more dogs. I was in a panic when I remembered a neighbor telling me how they went here with their dog. I called a head and spoke with a very professional vet tech who asked a lot of questions about health of my dog and what was going on. It was a quick 30 min drive from the city. On arrival you call and they come out and get your dog. Vet called me within 15 minutes with treatment plan and costs. My dog was hospitalized for 24 hours and while in their care I was able to regular updates. All staff was very kind and compassionate with us and our dog. It's a week later and my dog is back to her happy healthy self. Emergency vet care is never cheap but I feel the prices were fair and reasonable for the treatment that my dog received. If you ever find yourself in a situation like this it's good to know that there is a place like this that can help. read more
