We found this place when my family came to watch me play a local hockey tourney. We all wanted different things, and I had some food restrictions. What a comfortable place to relax for a bit. Spacious and gracious. Plenty of tables and couch seating too. Fresh sandwich ingredients with a choice of gluten free bread. My family thinks the blueberry scones are excellent, and suggests topping then with a little maple syrup. I also wanted the big tuna fish over garden salad bowl I saw at the next table. I enjoyed my experience at Emma's Cafe on Sunday morning. After struggling to choose which meal to get, as they had a plethora of options, I decided on "Fresh From the Garden" egg sandwich. The local ingredients were so fresh, and that is a huge part of what made my meal so delicious. The service was excellent- despite the fact that they were rather busy, we waited no longer than 5-10 minute for our food. The chef brought our meals over personally and was more than helpful. Even better? The prices! As opposed to another restaurant of this kind, such as Panera, the prices are extremely fair, breakfast sandwiches ranging around $6-$7. I tried to give Emma's zero stars, but yelp wouldn't let me. I ordered the Italian TMB panini and it was bar far the worst sandwich that I have even had. The bread was soggy, the tomatoes where not fresh, and the mozzarella was of the worst quality. I visited Emma's a month ago with my daughter and 10-month old grand daughter for a late lunch after a morning of apple picking. We were pleasantly surprised by the variety of both traditional and "foodie" offerings. I had the "lobsta sandwich" and my daughter had the "grown up grilled cheese." My lobster roll had a lot of lobster that was just enhanced-and not drowned in-by a light cilantro lime crema. It was fresh and delicious. My daughter's loved her grilled cheese. The cafe's decor was unfussy and the place was sparkingly clean. There was also a cosy area for reading the newspaper while having coffee as well as a play corner for young children. I've always gone at non-rush hours, I am old, and I am pretty cheap. I like good food. Emma's delivers outstandingly. But it's not a club atmosphere - think cafeteria with very friendly and flexible staff, working to keep the customer happy. 1) Menu choices are very impressive to me. Imaginative - adding walnuts to blueberry pancakes? Piqued my interest so I bit, and glad I did. 2) Food quality and quantity - My pancakes were almost too much, the syrup was exquisite (for sale at $75/gallon). I've had sandwiches twice in the past that were very good. 3) Prices are very good. Service was excellent (for) - manager delivered drink, cook delivered breakfast (it was a slow time). 4) Ambiance / decor - it's like a cafeteria - just blah, linoleum (?) floor, single-post tables and chairs. A TV showing CNN (with a sofa in front?). Tables spread out, easy to re-arrange. No sound deadening that I noticed but I heard virtually nothing from 3 other tables with families. I might prefer the atmosphere of an old English pub, but this is an almost cheap breakfast/lunch place. I will return, I do recommend. read more

Great menu with lots of healthy options, as well as some yummy comfort foods. My kids absolutely love their pancakes and smoothies. I adore the healthy breakfast wrap. We eat there regularly and haven't tried anything that we didn't like. The wireless is a great benefit for when we need to get in a little work and need a change of scenery. I have to admit that I love the open kitchen and that the restaurant is so clean. Sometimes, on weekends, the egg dishes aren't quite as good as they are during the week...other than that, it's a fantastic spot. read more

Went to Emma's last weekend for the first time and had a great experience. The service was friendly and quick, the prices were very reasonable, and the food was tasty. I got the Californian BLT and a triple berry smoothie. Bacon cooked nice and crispy, fresh veggies and avocado, toasted nicely. Smoothie was very good, tasted like it was made with just fruit and yogurt, no mixes or added sugar, maybe some honey. Sweet potato side salad was a nice twist on traditional potato salad. Husband got the beef stoup and half the hummus wrap, both were delicious. Wrap was all fresh veggies, and the stoup was very flavorful and filling. Very good value for high quality ingredients. The menu has such an interesting variety of options - little twists to traditional deli/cafe and breakfast food - I am really looking forward to going back and trying everything! I don't know why this place gets 4 Stars. My girlfriend and I hit up this place as we rode along Route 117 looking for local spots to photograph and blog about. She was starving, so we turned into this strip mall where Emma's Cafe is. First of all, the place is nice. I'd recommend going there for a coffee date or as a place you can go to do some work on your computer. The people were friendly, nice, and a bit young, which was the reason why my suspicions came up about it's business model. It seemed to me that the owner is the type of person who rolls around in a Benz or a BMW, but pays his workers minimum wage. Nearly the entire staff was either foreign or in high school. Usually low pay and high turnover jobs like this equate to low quality product and workers who have absolutely no investment in the business's success. For example, one of the girls working there was on her phone instead of taking care of customers or simply doing something else. A second example was my girlfriend's sandwich. She ordered a turkey sandwich, which was missing bacon on it. My first inclination was that the giant guy on the grill who was about 100 lbs. overweight either eat her bacon or hid it in one of his multiple chins. The dude looked like he was working up a sweat back there, so all that ran through my mind was his sweat dripping into my steak and cheese, which was made with relatively inexpensive cheap beef. For $12 and numerous grass fed farms in the area, I thought maybe this place would have contracts out with local farmers for such a price. That sandwich was decent. But the price would have been more fair for $9. Overall, the place does okay. But for the price one would expect a more astute staff. The chic on her phone and the messing up my girl's order were indicative of the workers' being distracted with SnapChat or ADD. I wish this place well nonetheless. read more

This cafe is wonderful! The owners and staff are very friendly, and the food is great. I can't say enough about the scones! The ingredients are fresh and delicious. The options are numerous, and there's something for everyone. The customer service is outstanding, and something you don't find in a lot of other places these days. They go above and beyond to make your visit enjoyable. It's one of the many things that makes Emma's such a stand-out place to visit. In fact, I now live in Denmark, and was back in town to visit my family for two and a half weeks. How lucky that we found Emma's (which was not yet open when I moved away to Denmark last year)! During my short stay in Massachusetts, we visited Emma's 4 times, and every time it was delicious. I recommend this cafe and hope the business sees a lot of success! My family and I were in the Stow area and I love to Yelp for new establishments to visit. Based on the reviews we made the decision to stop here for breakfast. We were extremely disappointed!!! You walk-in and have small selection of the menu that are breakfast items, you have to pay prior to seeing or tasting your food. They give you a mini chalkboard stand thing to place on your table so that the cook can bring you your order. I ordered the Miami omelet, meh, tasteless and soft home fries and cold toasts. My husband ordered the pure protein omelet and it was more like pure grease omelet and extremely over crispy burned bacon and bland home fries, his toasts were also cold. My 2 boys ordered the Mexican breakfast burritos and it was so small that my boys were wondering what else they could eat. All in all we spent almost $40 bucks and are wondering what the whole rave was about this place? Needless to say that I will NEVER be making the trip up to this place ever again. Left this place feeling confused because of all the great reviews this place had but it certainly did not match our own experience. read more

I ordered a blueberry muffin, my husband ordered bagel with smoked salmon. The hostess plated my muffin and gave it to me along with our coffee. A half hour later, after having asked twice about the bagel, it was finally being prepared. We were so annoyed, we had them wrap it to go. What a way to waste a Sunday morning. I bordered on giving this a 2-star. I bumped it up because it is definitely a very nice gathering cafe. The coffee was quite delicious, but a little annoying when I had to ask for my plain black coffee after my meal came and the staff seemed put off and perplexed that I didn't get it after we ordered at the register. As if that was our fault. I would understand if they appeared understaffed or overwhelmed, but neither was the case. The food was only edible, we had the Pure Protein omelet and the healthy start sandwich on an English muffin. Both are supposed to include feta, which was missing in both meals making them very bland and flavorless. The portions were very generous and the breakfast potatoes and fresh fruit were delightful, however the main meal was very disappointing. It was watery and oily which added to the blandness and gave both weird texture and made the toasted English muffin soaking wet. I recommend this place but maybe avoid breakfast? Maybe they are better at other menu items. Don't feel it's worth all the hype from previous yelpers, I based my decision to check it out from reviews and was disappointed. It was mediocre. read more

Stopped in for a "healthy start breakfast sandwich" and it was served on a spinach wrap. Since I asked for a sandwich, I certainly did not expect the spinach wrap, which was totally disappointing as I dislike wraps. The filling was bland and the wrap quickly got soggy. Ended up throwing most of it away. I might stop in for a lunch sandwich at some point, or I'll just buy the ingredients at one of the great local farm stores and make it myself. Staff was friendly enough and the decor isn't bad - though they'd benefit from a ceiling makeover (switch some of the panels for drop lights and you've got instant ambience). Emma's is cute and has great potential. I have been a few times and I wish that the food was a little bit better. I ordered an egg and bacon panini and it was not seasoned at all. The cheese appeared to be a kraft single. My kids ordered grilled cheese and the bread was not buttered. I think that when people go out for lunch and order grilled cheese, they are not looking for a healthy sandwich. Without the butter, the sandwiches were so dry. I will keep coming back to support a local business but I want Emma's to upgrade some of the ingredients that they use. read more

Emma's Cafe is a bright spot in the breakfast landscape in an area with few worthy competitors. Their popularity is a testament to their excellent food and service despite their location which Is buried in between a dozen nondescript store fronts in the Shaw's plaza in Stowe. The very narrow storefront opens into a surprisingly large and comfortable interior space. The menu consisting of a wide variety of breakfast and lunch choices adorns the wall as you walk in. A small pastry case greets you with a small but delectable assortment of muffins and pastries including my favorite; generously sized blueberry scones. They are always fresh often still warm from the oven. I usually come for breakfast and have the mixed veggie omelette with home fries and bacon and whole wheat toast. The home fries are nicely seasoned, slightly crisp outside and soft inside. The bacon is flavorful and good quality. Nearly everything is made from scratch a far cry above your typical breakfast place. The prices are very reasonable given the high quality. The only place I might like better for breakfast is Nancy's Airfield Cafe, but you will easily pay double for your meal. Emma's is a better value for your money. I'm looking forward to trying out their lunch menu including soups and sandwiches. read more

We especially enjoy their omelets (especially the western style omelet chock full of ham and delicious fresh veggies!), home fries (a tad too much pepper, but otherwise quite tasty), and different types of pancakes (REAL maple syrup available!). The coffee could be stronger, but it's fresh and no worse than DD, other comments notwithstanding. We've chatted with the folks who work here; it's clear that they're dedicated to preparing fresh, tasty food at fair prices and to delivering good customer service.
