This review is for delivery. We like the food, only it always arrives disgustingly cold because their delivery is consistently, routinely, without exception, appalling. We know when we order delivery, our food won't arrive piping hot, and there will be occasional challenges. But wow, this place gets the delivery window/eta wrong by a margin of about 30 minutes ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF THE TIME. And that's my biggest complaint. If you give the option of a delivery time, and the food order was placed HOURS before, how is is possible to ALWAYS deliver the food a full half hour AFTER the eta given in each and every update? This last time, the order was placed at 3:25pm for 6pm delivery. Our "dasher" "Ricardo" picked up our order at 5:35. 5:35, okay? Multiple texts said delivery time would be 5:58. It came at 6:22. And this is the sort of thing that happens EVERY TIME. Unacceptable. Each time we order food from here, we eventually remember why it had been so long since our previous order. Also? It ain't cheap. The service and the food was so good. I got the recommendation from Yelp and my friend and I went that night. We has the Quinn pizza and added toppings since I'm a picky eater and I add a beer while my friend had the the Te Amo Tequila; our server LaTasha was super awesome with so much warmth and personality that kept you in a relaxed vibe all night. I had honestly never had Detroit-style pizza before. My roommate and I had it delivered and I was pleasantly surprised. I had the Angel pie, which comes with ricotta, mushrooms, and truffle mushroom cream. It was a great combo of flavors and the truffle cream is out of this world. I'm looking forward to visiting once we come out the other side of COVID, but for now, delivery is a great option. read more

We decided to go here because of all of the 5 star reviews on Yelp, however, it was just okay. We ordered the MVP and a custom pie with onions and peppers, and overall they were pretty tasty but for the size, it was VERY overpriced. Fair warning: these pies run $15-20 and are really tiny. We also found the pesto on the MVP to be a tad salty. We enjoyed our meal, but it was not worth the price. Pretty average pizza. read more

Be patient this may long! So on a Friday night the family and I decided to have a pizza night at our parents house in DC. Being that everyone is so picky and never want to waste carbs on anything not worthy of a second slice or bite. My sister recommended we try a Detroit style pizza. Initially, I wasn't too excited given that I love a New York style pizza with loads of gooey cheese, so much so that the slice tilts. For me hands down this is how pizza should be! However, my sister was pretty convincing that these Detroit style pizzas were all the rage. However, for us (more so me) it just wouldn't be fun if we didn't do a taste test to see which of the local places had the best Detroit style pizza. Based on looking at reviews, we decided to try Emmy Squared-Shaw and Side Door Pizza DC. We made sure to order a cheese and pepperoni pizza so that we could give each a fair chance. Now mind you, we have some picky eaters amongst the bunch, who are very opinionated. However, I think we all shared the same consensus on the breakdown of what enjoyed and what we felt was very lacking. Foremost, just so you know in advance these pizzas are not cheap and become quite expensive given the size of your party. Now here's the verdict. We found that size wise for the price, the Emmy square supreme size pizza was just way too small for almost $24 compared to the Side door pizza which was larger and with healthier size slices. The Emmy pizza had 6 relatively small slices. Where the side door pizza had 8 pretty nice size squares on their large pizza. Now when it came down to taste oh buoy! Hands down the crust on Emmy squared pizza stole the show. It was so rich and buttery. For our 40 and over crowd, the crust was very nostalgic of how pizza hut crust use to taste during their childhood when it was actually good. The crust on the Side door pizza while good just couldn't stand up to Emmy's amazing extra buttery crust. Now when it came down to toppings, this is where things took a turn. When we ordered the Emmy pizza we ordered it with extra cheese. However, on the Side door pizza we forgot to order extra cheese. Yes I know! Maybe is was all the excitement that got the best of us. However, when we received the pizza's it was obvious that the Emmy pizza while supposedly having extra cheese was an epic fail in the amount of cheese on the pizza. It was clearly not extra cheese at all but more like just enough cheese to spread around the pizza. However, the side door pizza which we forgot to ask for extra cheese was loaded with cheese so much so we were glad we didn't ask for extra. Now when it came to overall taste, while both were good, everyone agreed the Emmy pizza was the more flavorful of the two given again that crust and the spicy kick of the sauce on the pepperoni pizza. The side door pizza while good and very cheesy just didn't stand up to the tasty tomato sauce and crust on the Emmy pizza. My sister felt the side door pizza again while good lacked in flavor, However, I think it was more so that she had tried the Emmy pizza first and the robust sauce on the pepperoni pizza definitely lingers on the tongue. Beware if you don't like things too spicy like me the sauce on the pepperoni pizza could have too much of a kick. I found it good but I felt I would have enjoyed it more had it not been so spicy. So to round this thing out, we all agreed that that if Emmy pizza did a better job of honoring the extra cheese on orders, hands down it would be our first go to whenever we had a taste for a Detroit style pizza. However, if we order again and still have the same problem, we wouldn't hesitate to order from Side door because while less flavorful the size and plentiful toppings definitely were a better bang for your buck. The pizzas were unique with lots of flavor (we got The Emmy and the MVP), and the cocktails were a great deal for the prize. The Blitz cocktail was our favorite of the cocktails we ordered. Delicious burgers, fries, and pies! Catering too! After all of our woes in the recent weeks, I wanted to do something for one of my favorite restaurants (Emmy Squared) and for the police (who have to be feeling beleagured). I spoke with Jessica, the manager at Emmy Squared on Tuesday about picking up burgers, appetizers, and 13 pies on Wednesday to drop off at the local station the next day. She was so gracious! The food was piping hot and ready for me to pick up on time; and she and one of the staff even loaded up into my car! It all smelled divine, and the Colony pie that I purloined was heaven! I was at Emmys squared restaurant Thursday night (March 5th) with several other guys and had a wonderful time! Food is wonderful (shaved sprout salad was awesome) but what made the experience memorable was the service we received from our waitress "Latasha"!! She was there when you needed her and made great suggestions! She was pleasant, knowledgeable and so polite...looking forward to going back! The pizza here is fantastic-- the crust is perfectly done and crispy around the edges, with baked-in Parmesan. My cocktail was also delicious (I got the From Emily With Love). The one disappointment was the hot chicken wedge salad. The chicken had only a little heat and weirdly little flavor. It was a bummer because the rest of the salad was terrific and really called out for some spicy chicken to balance it out. I'm not sure if we just caught it on an off day, but next time we go, I might skip the chicken and try one of the appetizers or a different salad. read more

Having heard rave reviews of Emmy Squared in NYC, I was excited to hear they were coming to DC! I came with a group of friends and we made a reservation for a Friday night. Although we had a reservation, we ended up waiting an hour for our table. We were offered a round of drinks on the house which we gladly accepted. The place was packed with people and we were hungry, so we were excited to finally sit down. We ordered the roasted cauliflower and shredded sprouts salad to share as soon as we sat down which were both good, but unmemorable. We shared the burger, the colony pizza, and the Emmy pizza. The entrees were all incredible. I would never normally order a burger at a a pizza restaurant but this was not to be missed. The pretzel bun was amazing, and I loved the flavors. The side sauce for the Emmy was a great companion to the heavy pizza. I never thought I would be a Detroit pizza fan, but the way the cheese crisped up along the edges reminded me of focaccia bread. I can't wait to go back for brunch or happy hour! We left stuffed and happy, but be prepared to wait a bit even if you have a reservation. read more

We live right above this place and my fiancée and I placed an online order. We went to get it and they charged us but apparently they never received the order. This was 45 mins after ordering online. They said it would take another 45 mins to an hour to get it ready. To clarify we ordered 1 pizza and 1 burger. Absolutely insane. The manager wouldn't even refund us immediately, and was very rude. They kept trying to blame it on technology but the computer would charge us without issue but not let them put our order through? I recommend ordering from Andy's pizza. Wish a better place than Emmy's moved in. Their service sucks. read more
