Tastes Great- If they every have what you want. The whole business orbits around a single 4 foot heated glass display. Because they stock about 6 of each flavor at a time, they WILL be out of stock of the favorites, doesn't matter what time of day or what day of the year- all you will get is "Sorry we don't have any more of the X". Funny they haven't figured out how to stock MORE of the popular ones and less of the slow movers. Sad. read more

Okay, people.... this is one of the Chicago suburbs' best kept secrets, for oh so many reasons. My friend had mentioned someone had brought these empanadas into her work but she missed trying them because they were gone before she could get her hands on one. She had been asking me for awhile to go here. Now I love a good empanada, don't get me wrong. I have eaten some good cuban ones in Logan Park. But EmpanadUS puts a whole new spin on things. The place is a pick it up and go, unless you get lucky to eat at one of the two tables, which we did, which was good, because 2 were not enough-- we had to go back and get another. Anyway, I started with a chicken and a mushroom. My favorite was the chicken. It was like excellently seasoned, crispy and flaky and piping hot. How do they keep them piping hot in that display case without getting hard???? Must be the right amount of moisture or something scientific like that. Anyway, the mushroom was tasty, I am a huge fan of mushrooms. I went back and got the spinach and was in veggie heaven. Okay, so the best thing about this place is obivs the empanadas themselves. But they also have this chimi-churri sauce.... I could not get enough of it. Literally. Embarrassingly so, I made 4 trips to the counter to grab another spoonful (community style serve yourself). They sell this, by the way. Small or large. Lastly, another one of the awesome things about this place is the owners. The two owners, brothers from Argentina, get my vote (yes, both of them), for hottest men of the year. Dang. Excellent customer service and super friendly. So, as much as I hate to give up a well-loved secret, I think this little restaurant deserves kudos!!! read more

Love Empanadus! Fresh, wholesome and delicious! They are a refreshing alternative to fast food and sandwich places. The owners are also big supporters of the community and have generously supported the local elementary school. The mini Empanadus were a big hit for the 3rd grade students at their CCC event. The manager and staff were great to work with. La Grange is lucky to have them! read more

Two of us stopped in for lunch. We had beef stew soup - fantastic, the closest thing to Grandma's vegetable beef soup I've ever had (my grandma was a wonderful cook) and four empanadas: ham and cheese, mushroom, beef, and spinach. Chimichurri sauce, too. The people behind the counter were as friendly as could be. There were a few tables open so we sat and ate. There's a gelato case with six or more flavors. We chose pistachio and mint chocolate chip in the "mini" cups, which hold two small scoops. Perfect - since we shouldn't be eating ice cream, anyway. I loved this place and would gladly return next time I'm in the neighborhood. Only suggestion for improvement: invest in regular (not higher than average) tables and chairs. I was really happy with my lunch today. I live around the corner and have been waiting to try some empanadas here. I had the mushroom, spinach and beef. The mushroom was a bit too cheesy for me but I really enjoyed the beef and the spinach. The spinach reminded me of a really good spanakopita and I liked that the beef empanada had olives in the mixture. They were all really flavorful with or without the chimichurri sauce. read more

In a word - delicious!!! So glad we tried this place. Since it was our first time here, we purchased several different varieties. Favorites were the beef, chicken, sausage, and spinach empanadas. Also, the breakfast bacon & eggs empanada was yummy. And I agree with all the reviewers who love the chimichurri sauce - it's amazing! They even sell it by the jar. Buy extra so you can put it on everything! The place is small - better for carry-outs. You get a lot for your money here - a real tasty bargain - I can't wait to go back! read more

If you think that these are the best empanadas then you are sorely mistaken. The empanadas here are just ok, but since Riverside lacks a variety of restaurants, people make this place out to be more than it really is. Also, their chimichurri sauce is way too oily and nowhere near what chimichurri sauce is supposed to taste like. If you are in Chicago and want to taste some GOOD empanadas, and I mean GOOOOOD, I suggest that you drop into El Ñandú, located 2731 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60647. Try their phenomenal empanadas and their out of this world chimichurri sauce and then tell me who has the best empanadas. I was all set to give this place 5 stars but alas can only give it a 3. This place was recommended by a friend so we stopped by this afternoon for a "snack". This afternoon the person was friendly, answered questions and overall provided decent service. We took the emps home and they were great! Decided to go back a little later to pick up more for dinner with the family. When I got there the person (different from this afternoon) behind the counter was filling 2 big pizza boxes full for the guy in front of me. No big deal, she just filled this guys boxes from the 3 big trays of emps behind the counter, plenty left right? NOT! When I began to order I let her know that I'd need 10 or so. She got a medium sized box and I started to order. Me: "I'd like 4 of X" Her: "We only have 1" Me: "O.k., how about 4 of X?" Her: "No, we only have 1 of those" This went on 2 more times... When I asked her what she did have she looked at me like I was crazy and told me they had plenty, I just had to order something else. Mind you I had already tried to order 4 different types to no avail. When I looked in the case to try to figure out what they did have (because the girl there wouldn't tell me) they didn't even have 10 total emps in the case. When I told her there weren't 10 emps in the case she said "Well it's the end of the night and that's all we have left." As I turned to leave she said "Well if you would have called ahead and ordered I could have had some ready." I was there an hour and a half before they closed... Seriously, less than a dozen emps, you have an hour and a half to go and you expect people to "call ahead their order" if they want to give you business? And BTW - how about offering some of the emps from the 3 trays behind you? The empanadas were pretty good but not sure we'll go back with this kind of service. Great empanadas! This was our first visit into the restaurant in Riverside. We had previously ordered empanadas from them for a party. Our guests raved about the empanadas and the chimichurri sauce. On our recent visit we enjoyed the caprese and bbq pork empanadas. Both were great. We also enjoyed the San Pellegrino lemon soda. Such a fresh taste. Yum, good and thrifty, always warm but get there before 5 for best choices. The chimichurri sauce is good n garlicky. Man- it's good, Faves are mushroom, bbq pork, spinach- but they're all good. They have a variety of empanadas to try, but my favorites are the mushroom and the beef versions. The crust is perfect, flaky but substantial. Do not leave there without trying the gelato---especially the pistachio. read more

Yum! A great, portable meal. Perfect if you are running the kids around and don't have time to spend lingering over a meal. They only have two or three tables in house but I have never had a problem grabbing one. They seem to do a brisk takeout business. Oh my, yummy yum! This is the real deal. The empanadas taste just like those in Buenos Aires, I promise. There are so many good ones it's hard to choose favorites. The ones with veggies are fantastic. I think the mushroom and spinach ones are the best, my husband likes the corn and pulled pork best. We really liked them all, there seem to be flavors to please everyone. In fact, we liked them so much we bought some frozen ones to take home. The homemade jumbo coconut alfajor was to die for too! I wish we lived closer so we could go more often. They also sell really good looking gelati but we were so stuffed we'll have to come another time to try it out. If you're headed to the Brookfield Zoo, or are near the area, you should definitely check them out. You won't regret it, I promise! read more

I must admit that I did not have empanadas before eating them here. I would recommend them for anyone looking for a different taste in latin food. I liked the flexibility of the having them in so many flavors. One cool thing is that each flavor is stamped right on the shell. It is a label that you can eat! I especially like the BBQ Pork and the Mushroom flavors. The Caprese style with Mozarella cheese and tomatoes is a good vegetarian choice The store is newer, clean and conveniently located in the heart of Riverside on Burlington Avenue, 1/2 block from the train station. The only bad thing I can say is sometimes they run out of a particular flavor. Also,once in a while you have to wait for them to make a new batch of the chimichurri sauce which you must have if you are enjoying your empanadas. read more
