I went for the first time today and not being very experienced with empanadas ended up getting the 10 for $2 each deal and just mixed and matched a bunch of them. For two people this ended up being to much food but we enjoyed trying all the flavors. My favorite was the caprese, reminded me a little of a pesto flavor and I loved the tomatoes on top. Second favorite was the onion, very cheesy but with a nice onion flavor. We also tried the beef (my boyfriends favorite but has a lot of olives so not for me), spinach, mushroom and chicken. Overall I thought everything was pretty tasty, I like the flexibility of getting a bunch of different kinds and the crust was nice and flaky. Also the chimichurri sauce was pretty good. Argentina great dish brought to Riverside. A small place with small empanadas but tasty and unique cuisine a welcome change to the usual Chinese and Mexican strip mall bore found throughout the area. Why does this place have so many good reviews? Have you guys never had an empanada before? They were ok...I would give them an A+ for presentation. Really cool to have the names on them to tell them apart. But other than that, some were really bland. I enjoyed the sausage and caprese. Apple was great for those with a sweet tooth. Chicken was good, but it was missing something... I think they could be a little more inventive with their spices. I've had better. So the BF and I were waiting for my aunt to get home and he was getting pretty hungry, and since he's hypoglycemic, we decided to get food. I remember that EmpandUS was about two blocks away and we wandered to get food. I got four of the empanadas, spinach, mushroom, bacon and egg, and bbq pork. They were all amazing. I seriously could've gotten three, maybe even two, they were that filling. They also gave us this yummy sauce to dip them in. We devoured them, then kept eating even though we were full. On multiple occasions I have gone there only to discover the epidamas that I wanted to have conveniently "just sold out". While I'm given the option to wait for new ones to be made, the 20 minutes it would take, I just don't have. The biggest problem I think is that the staff just doesn't have it together. And while on the surface they seem friendly, they have some false sense of superiority where the counter monkeys think they're better than everybody else. Must be a "Riverside" thing. read more

As a Latin girl I know how empanadas are supposed to taste like. These empanadas are the real thing. They also make their chimi churri, that makes them even better. Not easy to find chimi churri, I asked them if they had it thinking they won't and what a nice surprise. They do! Really love this as a take-out place. Yummy and reasonable. We even ordered from them for one of our staff meetings. The only sad part is now that I'm eating vegan this month, they're off-limits---basically everything has cheese in it. But if you're a vegetarian, this is a good option for you. I noticed a few people complaining about blandness. I think everything has a good flavor, but it's true that nothing is particularly that spicy (at least none of the ones I had were). I was recommended by a friend. Wow, these are good. I have since moved out of Illinois, and I am in Omaha Nebraska now. However if anyone comes to Omaha or if I ever head to IL, luckily besides already baked empandas, they sell them frozen and I bake them at home. Super easy and just as tasty. Had this place bookmarked for a while, was finally in the area. Stopped in for lunch. Seemed to be more of a snack place than a full lunch place, but you could get your fill here if you try. I was looking around, and the girl behind the counter asked if I'd ever had an empanada before, I said no (though I knew what they were), so she told me they were just like a hot pocket. Certainly nothing wrong with hot pockets in my book, but they could maybe try to be a little more appealing in their description. just sayin. So, I went up to order, and selected one, and then went to select another, and got a look like "oh, you want more than one?" I think i started with 2, and then went back for another 2. I think I had the bbq pork, the bacon, one with egg & sausage(?), and the ham & cheese. All were very good. I think the ham & cheese was the best (very much like the same flavor hot pocket :), and the one with egg was a close second. I'd go back if I were in the area. Best empanadas I've had in a long time. The range of fillings is mind boggling. We tried a couple of the vegetable ones and the pulled pork. Truly excellent empanadas and friendly place. We have been working on a Christmas simplification project and hit upon the idea of trying empanadas as one of our appetizers. We ordered a bunch of frozen mini-empanadas that we picked up (along with chimichurri sauce) on the 23rd. This is a cute little spot in downtown riverside. Two small tables allow those dining in to have a seat. The empanadas themselves are very good (however please note that they differ greatly from other South American countries), but they are very pricey. Lunch or dinner for one person could easily cost $10-$15 read more

Delish!! I was tasked with picking up brunch and decided to give this place a shot. Since this was my first time going here, I decided to get a variety (sausage, bacon, ham, beef, chicken, spinach, apple, and banana-nutella). They were delish! The portions are perfect and packed with flavor. They actually stuff the empanada so you do get your money's worth. I ordered a total of 10 to be shared by 4 people and we had leftovers. Empanadus is my favorite eatery in downtown Riverside. Prior to my first visit, I had never actually tried an empanada, but they've managed to get me hooked. I love the variety in the different fillings they offer, especially as a vegetarian. I usually only order two empanadas at a time, as they are very filling. The staff are very friendly, and the seating area is clean, albeit small; this hasn't posed an issue for me, as I usually order to take go anyways. Empandus' location is convenient as well, as it is located down East Burlington, right off Harlem. I definitely recommend to anybody who may find themselves around Riverside/south Harlem! read more

Was at the LaGrange Park, IL Art Fair today and came across the little restaurant. These were not your average empandas (little pies). The staff was outside handing out samples with the owners of the place. They have many flavors of empanadas to try. I was delighted by the variety and my oh my were they delicious. My very pregnant daughter tried almost 1 of each. Her favorite was the spinach. My favorite was the chicken. The mushroom was so fresh too. I do think they need a few more sweet ones and then I can give them 5 stars, but the apple was good too. If you haven't tried them yet get there soon. You won't regret it. read more

I went to the LaGrange location across from the Thai restaurant. I've categorized my experience for your convenience: 1) Food: This was unique. There isn't any place in LaGrange that sells something quite like this. Tasty overall. OF NOTE: We learned they do not make the fillings at the LaGrange location, they simply fill them in the shells and heat them. 2) Cleanliness: We walked in while empty during a Saturday night, the first 4 tables were dirty. We had to clean our own to sit down by the window. The two ladies in the back were watching something on the tablet. Not very impressive. 3) Price: A little steep for the size you are given.
