A great family run business, we go here almost every weekend for lunch, often taking out subs to feed our local nursery workers. Everything on the menu is delicious and made with such fresh ingredients and care. Everyone that comes in is known by name, and enjoys chatting with the staff! I took a different route home from work this morning and needed something for lunch. This place popped up so I called and ordered a turkey sub. It was ready in 10 minutes which was fantastic. The sub was delicious and this will now be my top choice for subs. It remind me of the subs I get when I visit home up in Buffalo. Definitely recommend! read more

every time it's the older man he's so kind and everything comes out great ! but every time its been an older lady she's extremely rude and food is not good . Also I really loved the Hamburger sub that was definitely my go to. Stopped here for take out on the way to Waredaca Brewery. Food was excellent. Took a little while to make so I recommend ordering ahead. We had the spaghetti and meatballs and lamb gyro. Charged $6 for a chicken breakfast sandwich. It was a burnt frozen chicken piece, cut into slivers and shoved in a dry stale bun. Told them the sandwich wasn't even edible, they offered no refund or words for that matter, just smiled and waved as I walked out the door. read more

Had a nice visit to this stop off of Damascus Road. This little store seems to have everything from fishing tackle, bait, wine, and food. There are about four tables where you can eat and the menu had a wide variety ranging from chicken kabobs to pizza and breakfast. The food was made to order and the spices and ingredients well worth the wait. Great place to stop and relax when you are hungry. read more

Anyone who rates this place poorly obviously can't appreciate the charm and quality of a small family owned business. I love this place! My friend introduced me to their food and I was hooked ever since! I love the pizza and cheese steaks here! They cook everything to perfection and you can really taste the quality of their products. Wait times might be longer than your average shop but keep in mind, it's family owned and the owner cooks everything fresh! The cafe is super clean and well maintained. Their prices are very affordable too! The only downfall to some folks might be the location. It's located in Brookeville but this shouldn't be too far for anyone living in Olney. I got an Italian sub that was on par with Jersey Mike's (definitely better than Subway), and the Mrs. got a cheese and veggie pizza. Both were delicious, and the owner is a nice guy. There appears to be no other food options in a half-hour radius, so this is an especially worthwhile stop if you're visiting Patuxent River State Park or another attraction in this rural neighborhood. read more

I've passed this place countless times on my drive home from D.C.--very glad I finally stopped in for some pizza. It's a solid Greek/New England style pizza (round, thinner dough crust, cooked in the pizza pan). I haven't seen this style much in Maryland (Pizza Palace in Towson and Timbuktu in Hanover are the only spots that come to mind). Sauce is tasty as are cheese and toppings--very pleased to see Empire uses fresh mushrooms! (Ledo is my go-to pizza but I don't bother getting their awful bloated gray canned mushrooms). read more

My favorite sandwich is the turkey gyro loaded with lettuce, big slices of tomato and tzatziki sauce. The pizza is better than one might expect. They have a good selection of gourmet potato chips and a variety of beverages, including fresh squeezed lemonade and snowballs in the summertime. Came in on a Saturday evening, nobody else there. I ordered a chicken and vegetable soup and a coffee. Soup was bland, canned chicken noodle served with crackers; coffee is from a Keurig machine, which I didn't mind for $1.59. I waited at the counter to pay for about a minute as the cashier just stood there on her phone without acknowledging me. I had to ask for her attention. Despite the crappy soup and aloof service I'd come try something else another time; they have a huge menu including "Traditional" Middle Eastern dishes like kabobs, abgoosht, and gyros, many breakfast items, subs, and sandwiches. I also noticed that the cashier (who I assume is an owner) perked up and was very friendly when other, local customers came in. Sunshine only has two stores and a post office. Both stores serve good food and a place to meet the locals. Empire is newer and has more groceries, snacks, drinks, etc. They are not as well known for their sandwiches, which are the typical. Burgers across the street are famous. Empire would have a hard time competing there. They also have fresh made pizza and gyros. The homemade pies are excellent. The owners are friendly and hard workers. Recently stopped at the Empire Cafe. Once there realized that the friendly couple running the place were the same ones who used to operate Friendship's Pride in West Friendship. I ordered a fountain soda and a Gyro sandwich. Had to wait a few minutes as the sandwich was fresh made to order , but well worth the wait as it was hot and delicious. **Really** good ! Unfortunately my travels don't often take my past the Empire Cafe, but when they do I make a point of stopping in for a Gyro. You should too ! read more
