Here's what I liked: David answered my phone call himself and performed the repair the same day. *He communicated clearly. *He came when his help was needed, not days later. *He arrived within the time window specified. *He was well-mannered and personable. *He knew exactly what he was doing, and was obviously capable and knowledgeable. *He examined the garage door opening system, and told me plainly that nothing else was wrong and that no other work was needed, engaging in none of the upselling we all detest. *He clearly presented the available options. After David was done, the door was exceptionally well-balanced and is now working more smoothly and quietly than it ever has before. I couldn't have been more pleased with David's work. I wish all people who provide services would work the way David does. (It doesn't hurt to dream, right?) When I came back from the gym this morning, I noticed the garage door made an odd sound when it was closing. On closer inspection, I saw the spring had broken. I had a garage door repair service many years ago and I found through Yelp that they were no longer in business. Reading through the Yelp reviews, I chose Empire. I called and got David, told him my problem, and he was able to squeeze me in between where he was finishing up and the next job. When my garage door malfunctioned recently I planned to call a provider I had used previously but, after consulting Yelp and seeing so many positive reviews for Empire, I pivoted and gave them a call. I dealt directly with the owner, David, who was extremely responsive and got me scheduled quickly after quoting a very competitive price. David called ahead to notify me he was on the way and arrived promptly. He was very thorough and efficient, and patiently answered any questions I had. There was no high-pressure sales and all the work he performed was meticulous with no mess left behind. He rewound the cables, reset the springs, replaced all rollers, and lubricated my parts (.....geez that sounded all kind of wrong!) and now my garage door is running like new. Was having trouble with my keypads. I called Empire, spoke to David, which I might add, was so informative. I lucked out because he was working on a project close to my home and was able to stop by to check. I was referred to Empire Garage (David) I would NOT suggest this company. My garage door had not been closing so I thought I had a bad sensor. He tried troubleshooting over the phone with me and it wasn't working. So he gave me a four hour window 12-4pm the next day in which he was supposed to come look at it. He never showed up, i had to call him to see if he was still coming. I had to take off work & being a single mom that is hard for me to miss out on money. When I called him to see if he was still coming by and he said his schedule didn't load so he had to retake my name and address again. So he basically completely forgot about the appointment. When he did finally show up he was there for approximately 5 mins loosened and retightened the sensor (which was the troubleshooting that had not worked the day prior) and sprayed some WD40 on the rails. That's it! Charged me $50.00 for this! A. He doesn't show up on time. B. He doesn't remember the clients name after being told multiple times. C. Definitely overcharges!!! I first met David when I purchased his garage door tuneup package on Angie's List. It included checking all parts of the system and replacing the rollers. David did a great job and it was a good value. Later when the I had problems with the old garage door opener malfunctioning, I hired David to replace the opener. He provided a list of opener options and, once I selected one, he got it and installed it two days later. The installation was quick and easy (for me at least). He took the time to help with the setup of remotes and to explain the features and maintenance. I had a follow up question a couple of days later. I called and talked with David concerning an issue with my garage door as I could not get in contact with my previous door repair guy who I had had nothing but good experiences with. He started out by bad mouthing the guy saying he had worked with him and basically said he would never trust the guy. My experience was quite different. Anyway, David said he charged a flat rate of $125 just to come out. I thought that was a little expensive but I wanted the door fixed asap. I explained in detail to David what had happened and that the door opened okay but would only close half way. After explaining what happened, he said it appeared to be a simple repair and would probably not require any parts, to be determined when he was actually onsite. Unfortunately, he said he couldn't make it yesterday but would be open sometime after noon today. He said he had a job in the morning and should be free about 1pm or so but should be able to come out today. I told David that would be ok as I would be going to a lunch date at 11am and I would call him and let him know when I was free from the lunch date so he would know I was home. At about 12:15, I called and talked with David and indicated I was free and would be waiting for him. David then said he was on a big job and wanted to know if we could schedule for tomorrow! I said we had already talked and he said he had time for me today. I said I could not wait until tomorrow and he said ok but it would be later in the day after 4pm. I said that would be fine and ended the call. At or about 5pm I called and David said he was sorry but he was not going to be able to honor his commitment and actually argued with me about what he had said before. I said at the least, when you knew you were not going to make it after 4, even though you said you would, you should have called me so I could find another vendor. After reading some other complaints about Empire I decided I had to make this statement. Too often people are dissed by businesses and just don't take the time to share their bad experiences as they already have had enough disappointment that they are reluctant to take the time to file their complaint. I am not one of those people. And often times, the companies themselves post only their 5 star ratings. Many say they have had a great experience with David at Empire Garage Door however personally I will not use them. I do not appreciate being told that he did not have an agreement with me and chose to bypass that agreement and NOT contact me when he knew he could not make it. Incidentally, I found another reputable company who charges $49 to come out and assess the situation rather than $125. As they say, it always pays to get several estimates - even when you are in quick need of service. read more

Thinking that the house was on fire or some sort of emergency due to the urgency of the pounding on my door. When I asked him what he wanted he said he was from the garage door company looking for Dave or said his name was Dave. I told him he had the wrong house seeing that I never called anybody for my garage door. When I told him he shouldn't beat on someone's front door like that and instead of apologizing due to his mistake he decided to tell me to "go f*ck yourself a$$hole". Aug 2, 2017: Neighbors car crashes into my 1 car garage. Damaging my garage door & rear of my car. After shopping around for prices & availability, I went with Empire to replace the garage door. David was able to come out the next day to do the job. Quick, efficient, no hassle. For the last couple months, the door has been getting louder and on rare occasion, did not close. I was not sure if it just needed lubricating, so I called Empire again just to be safe. David again, came during the scheduled time. He did lubricate all the moving parts and did some minor maintenance. Tightened 2 loose bolts on the rail & adjusted the opener arm. All for a very reasonable price. It runs quiet & smooth again. He said, save for the loose bolts at 1 junction, the rest of the noise I experienced is just the parts needing lubrication. He was also willing to let me pick his brain on garage door routine maintenance. I only knew a little from what I could find from online research. It never hurts to get an opinion direct from a professional. I will be picking up a can of silicone lubricant spray at Walmart to take care of that. Empire does offer to do the routine lubrication every 3mo for you at a good price if you would prefer that option. David is straight forward, honest, reasonable rates & quick to respond. Had a great experience with David. He programmed the remotes and replaced the button inside the garage at the main panel next to the door. The button by the door can communicate with the remotes which I never knew that before (instead of the overhead thing being the communicator). Basically, David is a life saver. LOL.
