Complete waste of time--they didn't have travel adapter for Europe and the salesperson was clueless.

I think I worked with David! He was so honest and helpful. He wanted to understand how I travel and what most needed and helped me stay within my budget. I was so grateful. I have never had anybody help me pick out the best piece of luggage for myself. I am so glad I got off the crazy street of hawkers right outside his front door. His shop is in Chinatown... So get ready to be accosted by aggressive hawkers that want to shove trinkets in your face. It's very daunting . They were so aggressive! Right when I walked in the doors of Empire luggage, I felt a warm kindness. He was so genuinely sweet and really seem to care about what we most needed. I definitely recommend going to this place. Amazing selection and service. Just go here! I have been searching for a backpack for months now. I have been looking online, at outdoor stores, ordered at outlets. I had a bad experience. My son ordered a backpack on 10/16 and by 11/15 it still had not arrived. I sent an email to check the status, no reply. I attempted to get ahold of them via chat, no response. I called a few days ago and I'm told the item was delivered, but they could not confirm the date. Then I was told someone was going to call back to tell me what happened, and nobody ever did. So I called the very next day and I'm told my credit card that I had used was fraudulent. I've had this card for 10+ yrs. They wouldn't refund me claiming it was fraud and they never received the money. So one day the item is delivered and the next day its fraud and no money was received ... the charge went through as confirmed with my credit card company. I would NEVER order from them again!!! This place gets absolutely no stars from me. But unfortunately I can't post a review without at least giving them one star. read more

This store is located in SOHO on a busy street. It is a easy walk on, walk out kind of store. There selection is nothing to be messed with. They honestly carry every single quality bag brand out there. Ranging from Manhattan Portage, Timbuk2, to Topo design. The staff here are very friendly and accommodating. Have always found the perfect carry-on wheelie here (on #3 so far in last 25 years or so). Salespeople actually know their products--and there are a lot of different types, manufacturers & price ranges--and they offer helpful (not pushy) advice. Prices seem on target for NYC, always with some discount options to explore. Had hard to meet specs--wanted 2 wheel Vs 4 wheel (the extra wheels mean less interior luggage space), expanding more than 1" (also the present fashion--WTF? I need to stuff a bunch of purchases into my suitcase even if that means I have to check it). Empire had the solution (pricey, but perfect). Great location, right next to the subway. Sales people were very helpful...especially after I made a mistake about the dimensions of the carry-on bag I purchased, and had to return it for a store exchange. The man who took the return was gracious about the transaction even though, as he pointed out, the fact that I'd wheeled the suitcase home meant the wheels looked less than pristine although the bag was unused as per policy. I came here last weekend looking for a backpack for a middle-schooler. I'm on a budget, but I needed something sturdy that could hold a lot of stuff. Empire Luggage is a large place with a lot of backpacks to choose from. It would be easy to get overwhelmed and walk out without buying anything. Fortunately the salesman with the name tag "Sosa" was good at his job. He seemed to know every backpack in the store by brand and price, including the sale prices. Many of the packs are high on the wall and he took them down for me to examine. He also suggested a few bags based on my criteria. They were more than I wanted to spend, but I didn't feel he was throwing them at me at random just to make a sale. He was on the right track. Because there were enough backpacks to choose from in my price range, I decided not to leave empty handed, and eventually I found what I was looking for. I bought a carry-on sized Samsonite suitcase (cloth kind) here a year ago. At first, I was really pleased by the price which was about 10% lower than the stores around the area. I've taken the suitcase on two overseas trips. Each trip something went wrong: on the first trip, the Samsonite tag half came off as well as several zipper tags. On the second trip the remaining zipper tags came off and the zipper to the outer pocket won't close anymore. I've owned Samsonite suitcases all my life and they usually last 10-15 years without zippers breaking or tags falling off. Which makes me think this one was a clever fake. Or that Samsonite has really downgraded the quality of their luggage, in which case, I"m sorry to Empire Luggage for this negative review. I'm not sure if Empire Luggage is aware of the poor quality, or if they were aware if this one was a fake, but just a warning to others... read more
