This is my first time using a storage unit of any kind and wasn't sure what to expect. I called around to a lot of places in Marin and Sonoma Counties. When I called Belham Storage in San Rafael and they didn't have any units available, the customer service rep, Andre' recommended I go to Empire and not to bother driving all the way to Petaluma or Santa Rosa. She said it was the cleanest and safest place to store my things. I had wonderful customer service from Dennis both on the phone and in person; he is new at Empire but knows how to treat people well and put them at ease even when the office is busy. read more

Do yourself a big favor, and take your belongings elsewhere. I've rented 2 10x10 spaces in this facility for several years (at great expense). Last year, I discovered a dead mouse(!) in one of them. This year, I discovered that the floor was damp, damaging my business inventory. Management's solution was to offer me another unit and one month of free storage fees. I was expected to move all of the contents, and per the storage agreement, they took zero responsibility for the damaged goods. Also, they have raised my monthly storage fees twice since I placed my belongings in their facility. They take full advantage of the supply/demand dynamic to stick it to their existing customers. This place is way over-priced and over-rated, and management is inflexible and unreasonable. read more

I really liked this place but when I moved my things out of storage there because I found a house, I have to say that Bob was a total ass and was horrible to deal with. I'm so sorry for the others that work there to have to see and put up with his nasty behavior. read more

The price was right so we stored our things here in between moves. What they should have mentioned when we signed the contract is that they have a major rat problem. It didn't take long before we found that the rats where in our unit, pooping and running amok. They chewed some boxes open and went inside. Other than light damage, we didn't find any other damage BUT given time, I'm sure they would have discovered our upholstery and other great nesting materials. If you store your things here, BE SURE to bring along rat poison and place it in all 4 corners of your unit. When I complained to the owners, they acted totally nonchalant and basically said it wasn't their problem. I guess they are happy just cashing the checks and letting the rats move in. I would not rent here again. Aside from being pretty disgusting, this is a health hazard and their total disregard for customer service was the icing on the cake. Speaking of cake, we did not have any food in our unit. I know that other renters there do though. read more

I rented a space across the road, but when I discovered Empire's great facilities, I moved in and emptied the other storage. Very clean, well maintained, and a pleasure to visit. Nice people too. I would recommend this place to everyone. John read more

I rented a wine storage locker from Empire Mini in February. They were very polite when I first called to inquire about the space. When I moved in, the manager was extremely helpful, making sure that I got an easily accessible unit and opening that larger garage doors so I had an easier time moving in. I moved here from Dallas, and needed a storage unit to store my stuff for a few months until I found a permanent place. I looked at several places in the bay area. This place was a little further drive (20 minutes for me) but totally worth it. Above the flood plain, wonderful owners (Josh and Susan); clean and safe with great lighting and gates; not as expensive as the other local areas. I highly recommend. read more

We needed a place to store some things in the North Bay while waiting on our new place in Nevada to be ready to move-in. Empire's Novato facility is the nicest storage facility I've seen. As an added bonus, the cinder block construction keeps the contents of our storage unit fairly cool. So we were able to store some heat sensitive items without concern. read more

Being new to the area can be daunting, especially being in the midst of Covid-19 and historic wildfires. However, the gang at Empire not only made my experience effortless, they topped it off with great service, a killer deal and the kind of hands-on help that makes them stand out from the crowd. Clean facility, top flight security and new structures with better than broom clean spaces in just right sizes featuring rates that I couldn't beat in San Rafael added up the best deal bar none for me. They offer U-Haul vehicles for rent, but storage is their wheelhouse and Shamus and Dennis, the site managers, go above and beyond to provide the right amount of assistance, advice and all-around help. Humping your household a couple hundred miles and into a storage space becomes a cost effective, easy peasy entree into the NorCal experience. I was moving items from my parents home and needed a large unit with an outside walk up which became available prior to the move date.Kayla assisted with getting all of the prior paperwork handled, and even found the best rate on a 20ft u haul truck in the town we were moving from. Thanks to her the move went very smooth. The Storage areas are very clean, with lights on the inside, video camera's see all who come and go. There is always someone at the location to assist you, and whereas some have posted that this facility is too high in price, you really get what you pay for. As our load out went well and everything fit with walk around space, we still needed to rent another Van to return & load up more items. This is just about customer service over the phone. not professional the gentlemen on the would rather have an disagreement rather give pricing on sizes was not interested in availability, just prices in a timely manner and that was a struggle for them. i would not use the company at all. plus the prices down the street are 200.00 cheaper for 8 square feet less, when i inquired why the were so hight i was told welcome to marin, which is stupid cause the other storage facility in in the same town they are. don't use this company they have a take us or leave attitude, so don't take em and if you did you should leave them. read more

The people who worked there were incredibly rude and gave me MAJOR attitude when I asked simple questions when checking out of my space. It left a really bad taste in my mouth. The woman walking around was completely not helpful and barely spoke to us when I asked for a dolly. I was unimpressed with this place. Customer service is not a priority here as it seems they do not care about business or future recommendations. read more

I have been a customer since 2008. In that time, they have raised the rates continuously. I choose this facility originally because it was clean, secure (they have a gate that requires a code to get in or out) and the original management back then was good. Since their management (and ownership?) change a few years ago, their rate have gone up and up and up, they didn't care that I was a long time customer and would likely remain so if they didn't keep raising the rates, and now they leave the secure gate open all day so they can park their U-Haul vehicles in the storage area. One of the reasons that I liked this place was because it had secure, gated access. Keeping the gate open so they can park their U-Haul vehicles there works for their convenience but is essentially a reneging on the promise of a secure facility that they advertise. It's too bad, because if they treated their long time customers with respect, ran the facility the way it was originally advertised to be run, and didn't try to squeeze every penny out of their customers, this would be a good facility. I guess the new owner/manager just sees dollar signs. read more

A DEFINITE PASS! GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING BEFORE YOU MOVE YOUR STUFF! Rented truck place seemed okay, called on Sat morning for storage, got price gave credit card. Empire called back to confirm order. When we got there several hours later they stated they could not possibly honor the price given. Had a truck full of heavy furniture and boxes so they had us. Also you must buy their lock for 25.00 which they leave out when you call, moving out ASAP. (next weekend) Too many decent places to fool with this nonsense. Classic bait & switch operation. The owner was helpful in working out a unique mileage issue with me. I rented a van to store my garage in my driveway while refinishing the floors. It was much easier than moving everything to off-site storage and more affordable than renting an on-site POD. l recommend them for your moving and storage needs, and I will use them again for mine (rolling or fixed). read more

I've had my belongings stored at empire for years now. It is secure and very clean. No little critters or nasty spiders anywhere. The employees give me a ring when my balance is close to begin overdue. Never a problem with entering their electronic gate and my individual unit. Nice, friendly People, very clean storage space, one story, cement floor, your belongings are protected and safe under computerized lock and camera surveillance. It's a bit more expensive than other storage places but it is far superior in what you get!! WE have been renting storage space since May of 2014. This is my first month renting a space from this business. I am very pleased in the customer service and professionalism so far I've dealt with. From the very first time I stepped into the office, they were helpful in determining what I truly needed in regards to the space. The gentlemen whose name is Rob and the lady working the front desk both were very kind and professional in helping me. They showed me a unit before I rented it to help me decide what I needed for the things I had to store. It was pretty easy, straight forward and quick in being able to get set up with a unit. They even let me use a cart to help me carry some of the bigger items I had to store. So far, I am pleased with the cleanliness and security in the units. The prices are comparable with other storage unit companies but I like to stay local and I was impressed with how clean and taken care the property was. I have read some of the other reviews about rats and other things, but I have not experienced any of that while I have been renting a unit.
