I had a chance to work with Matt on a Sunday. I purchased a Bafang BBSHD kit from him and it was installed on a 2014 Nukeproof Pulse DH MTB. The Bike came out awesome! I couldn't be happier. Matt answered all my questions (I had a million of them) and made sure I understood what was being done from start to finish. I am totally satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend anyone thinking of doing an Ebike conversion give him a call. Thanks Matt!

Definitely recommend if you're interested in getting an e bike but have a nice mountain bike you dont wanna put down. Doesnt matter if your young, old, outta shape or in shape this takes things to the next level and gives you more freedom and options to go faster and further than ever before. Definitely recommend!

Back in September, I took my Fezzari dual-suspension bike to Matt for conversion. He was great to work with and installed a Bafang 1000w BBSHD mid-drive motor with gear sensor, an EMP full color display DPC-14, a Samsung 48v 13aH battery with charger, and a Lekkie 36T chain ring, all for about $1,500. Now I can ride this bike up any hill - highly recommend EMPowered Cycles.

I just worked with Matt at Empowered to turn my mountain bike into a 1000w ebike commuting machine. It was definitely the coolest experience of my year so far. He's a joy to work with, and runs a clean/honest operation. The bike performs like magic, and I just placed a follow-up order for a family commuter that can fit several kids on the back. If you're looking to convert just about any bike into an ebike, you'll be in GREAT shape working with Matt, either sourcing parts through him, or having him to the build.

My old electric bike was stolen last year. Looking for a replacement I had a lot of questions about mid drives. I'm glad I found Matt as he has all the answers. His install price is so affordable I had him do the work instead of trying to figure it out on my own. That was 9 months ago, I'm still super stoked on my new electric bike. Very reliable, fast, efficient, and fuuun! The older hub motor bikes were heavy and slower, this mid drive is quick and a blast to ride. I ride it everywhere and on any terrain in all conditions, fun and practical.

Successful conversion, up to 30mph. using the smaller 54V battery, I'm able to easily make a 34 mile RT with power to spare using level 5/6

I read the reviews and decided to go to Matt for my conversion. Matt was great! he walked me through the differences in the batteries and spent time explaining how the kit should be installed since I was doing the install myself. I can say that if you are interested in a conversion, go see Matt

On my first ride after I picked the bike up, the brake lines were full of air, enough so that my front brake was not really functional. When I brought it back to the shop, I also mentioned that the chain was skipping off the cogs under load in the higher gears. They took care of the brake problem, but I literally had to go back three times before they warrantied the cassette, which fixed the problem. They just kept adjusting the derailleur. I don't think they test rode it because they would call me and tell me it was fixed. I finally had them go out the back of the shop with me and ride along with me to show them how it skipped. The other issue was the bike started shutting off (it's an E bike) when I would hit rough sections on the trail. I had to take it back multiple times before they finally warrantied the battery and mounts. Each time I took it in they would call me and tell me it was fixed. I would go to start a ride and within a very short period the bike would shut down again. I get that this is a problem with the bike manufacturer and not the service department, but a quick search on Reddit revealed that this was a known problem and a warranty issue. It shouldn't have taken multiple visits and so much time with the bike in the shop to get it corrected. Most recently, I took it in to have the brake lines bled, and when I picked it up, one of the mechanics told me that the back brake was making noise. The service manager said that couldn't be anything they did they just bleed the brakes. However, when I got home, it sounded like a bagpipe every time I hit the brakes and it certainly didn't do that before I took it in. I think the brake pads got contaminated with brake fluid. Also, the retaining clips that keep the pin holding the brake pads from falling off were missing from both brake calipers. I called and spoke to the service manager. He told me that the clips aren't really necessary as long as you keep things tight. I asked if they had them in the shop and if I could come get them and he said he wasn't sure what part I was talking about and he would have to look at them. At that point, I just ordered a new brake pads and clips on Amazon and I'm done with this shop.

Disappointing assembly quality and warranty service…read more I bought a new road bike with Shimano 105 from Alameda Bicycle, but the setup quality was very poor. Right at pickup, the hydraulic brakes felt spongy. The mechanic told me to just ride it out, but after 100 miles of riding, it hadn't improved. During those rides some issues were also revealed: the shifting was rough, the drivetrain was noisy due to poor alignment, and a twisted brake hose was rubbing and scratching the frame. I brought it back under their 90-day guarantee, but the shifting and noise came back worse, and the brakes weren't addressed at all. I eventually spent hours fixing everything myself after purchasing tools and watching countless guides on YouTube. Lots of bubbles came out when I bled the brakes. Now that I properly bled the brakes and adjusted the derailleurs, the bike works great. No thanks to Alameda Bicycle though. Very disappointing build and service for a brand-new purchase.

What stands out to me is there quality of bike services for repairs, customer service for shopping for a new bike, and bike maintenance. They also have a used bikes section (varying inventory) which is terrific for families with young kids that frequently need new bikes without breaking the parent's bank. On the flip side, for the more enthusiasts or adult bikers they have bikes that should satisfy their needs for sure. The staff is helpful and friendly which is something that's never present with online or big box shops so definitely consider this bike shop in the future.

James and his staff was very knowledgeable, courteous, and professional about everything. They really spend the time to answer your questions and not just to "sell you something." The process to buy a bike is that you go to the retailer website (for example, Giant) and order the bike yourself. You have the bike shipped to Centripedal and they will assemble it for you. Afterwards they will call you to come in for a fitting. Then after this you can take the bike home. You get one year of maintenance, parts, and labor for free. Afterwards, you then pay as needed. The turnaround time to get the bike was about a week and James was able to deliver it to me (after fitting) as my car couldn't fit the bike and I lived relatively close by. Verdict: I'm going back in the future!
