I have been coming here for years. Couple of years back I had a not so good experience with one of the service specialists but I brushed it off as one off and continued to get my service repairs here. Today I went in for an issue that I was having on my rear brake (squeaking noise and over heating ).They had changed the brake pads and I had not used my bike much. So I was expecting something to do with that. The person (same Specialist) suggested to replace the system (pad, rotor ) to fix it as it was a waste of time for him to clean the pads. He was also expecting me to pay for the brake pads again. He also insinuated that I must have insisted for just the brake pad change to save costs etc , basically passing the issue to me. At that point I lost trust in the repair recommendation and bummed by the attitude. And will likely get his fixed somewhere else. Used to love this place but am going to another shop onwards. read more

Centripedal is a small business with surprisingly great selection of bikes and accessories in my Fremont neighborhood. What stands out to me is there quality of bike services for repairs, customer service for shopping for a new bike, and bike maintenance. They also have a used bikes section (varying inventory) which is terrific for families with young kids that frequently need new bikes without breaking the parent's bank. On the flip side, for the more enthusiasts or adult bikers they have bikes that should satisfy their needs for sure. The staff is helpful and friendly which is something that's never present with online or big box shops so definitely consider this bike shop in the future. read more

Short Story: The best bike shop in the Bay Area! Long Story: I first came here in Aug 2024 to purchase a bike. They have a large selection of Giant brand bikes at all price ranges. James and his staff was very knowledgeable, courteous, and professional about everything. They really spend the time to answer your questions and not just to "sell you something." The process to buy a bike is that you go to the retailer website (for example, Giant) and order the bike yourself. You have the bike shipped to Centripedal and they will assemble it for you. Afterwards they will call you to come in for a fitting. Then after this you can take the bike home. You get one year of maintenance, parts, and labor for free. Afterwards, you then pay as needed. The turnaround time to get the bike was about a week and James was able to deliver it to me (after fitting) as my car couldn't fit the bike and I lived relatively close by. I went in a couple months ago because I was having trouble with my wheelchair tire. The gentleman that helped me immediately identified what the problem was and fixed it quickly, with information about what probably happened... and had me roll around the shop a bit to make sure it was fixed before I left. I go to bike shops because I have bike tires, and recently I find a lot of bike places over complicate and/or estimate high charges, seemingly to not have to help me. I had such a positive experience here, and I feel compelled to share it. I recently inherited my dad's e-bike after he passed away. I haven't owned or ridden a bike in many years, and I thought the tires were flat. I brought it to Centripetal Bike Shop expecting to need new tubes and repairs. Instead, they simply inflated the tires properly -- and they stayed inflated. They were completely honest, explained what was going on, and did not charge me anything, even though they had kept the bike overnight assuming it might need work. It would have been very easy to replace parts and charge me for repairs I didn't actually need, especially given my lack of bike knowledge. They chose integrity instead. Businesses like this are rare. They are honest and professional. Their genuine care were truly heartwarming, especially during a time when this bike carries a lot of personal meaning for me. I'm so grateful to have found a local shop I can trust, and I won't go anywhere else. Also: While I was there, I also purchased a helmet for my two-year-old. The quality was significantly better than a helmet I had previously bought at Walmart -- sturdier, better designed, and clearly something I felt much more confident putting on my child. read more

I've gone to Centripedal Bikes a few times First was to replace the tubes of my Specialized Carbon bike. Went in and the bike mechanic took care of the bike. Very fair on pricing as well. Second time took my daughter's bike as the back wheel was misalinged Third time I took my bike there to get a crank power meter installed. No appointment and they took care of it in 10 mins. This is a wonderful shop in Fremont where from the point you enter the shop till you check out, everyone is checking to ensure you are taken care of. Yes! For the Service Center! My spouse is an avid cyclist and uses an e-bike, gravel and fixie. The owner James, is a pro at repairs. He explains to a bike dummy like me about what is being done, if he notices something else that needs to be tweaked or when it will ware out. If you want to waste your time, this is the place for you.... This is definitely one of the businesses that you want to steer clear of. They'll lie on the phone to get you to come into the shop and then once you're there all they do is just waste your time. The repair and maintenance side of the business is great. However, sales and resale are completely incompetent. The lead sales person is absolutely not qualified to do what she does. How it is that she got her job is beyond me. Don't try to resell a bike especially an electric bike through this place because they'll tell you one thing on the phone and then it's a completely different story once you're inside the shop. This kind of bait and switch is common, but it's particularly egregious here. It's understandable to want to attract people into your business but this is definitely not the way to do it. They said they wanted to buy my wife's E-bike on the phone then when we actually got there, the story changed. They only offer a store credit. Why would you want a store credit from a company that lies to you? That's a disincentive to ever return to that shop ever again. Bottom line don't waste your time with these people. Find a local bike shop that's close to your home that's invested in the community and cares about their customers. This place doesn't. Very helpful. They troubleshooted one of the problems I had with my chain and fixed it in the spot. I needed a brake repair as well. When I told her we were here to see "James", who we spoke with over the phone, she immediately directed us to his location in the store. We met James, I reminded him of our phone conversation, and he immediately began assessing and repairing my son's bike chain. He gave us some tips, pointers, and applied some fresh chain lubricant. Fixed two flat tires on my kids bike in 20 minutes. I tried a closer bicycle repair shop but they didn't have tiny kid size inner tubes in stock. Centripedal took me w/ no appointment and we must have been lucky because after we checked in there was a steady stream of customers to their repair shop. I was a cool/dumb parent and let my kid take his cheap amazon bike offroading near ohlone college on dirt and rocks and the next day we had two flats. I was a little embarrassed to bring such a cheap bicycle to these pro-shops working on really nice bicycles but the crew here didn't make us feel bad at all. They finished quickly and we saw how much care they put into checking the tires even though it was a kids bike, we will be back for something more serious once he's a little older. Looking for a local bike shop to support and get a bike I dug out of my parents garage all tidied up and safety checked so I could add it into my rotation of activity during these times. I found this via YELP of course! When I dropped my bike off I didn't have to wait too long there was a small line, spaced out with tape on the floor and even though there was only one person doing in take for the service department it went quickly enough. The person doing in-take was very thorough and I really appreciated that since the cycle world is not my normal environment. I told him things I wanted removed, added, was given my ticket and given nearly a month turn around. It was finished early as they do work on things in order and were able to get ahead on some orders! Unfortunately, not everything requested was actually done and so on check out the cashier had to get a screwdriver and go to work, but handled it all while I was waiting very quickly! The only thing I did not care for was when I was dropping off my bike there was one associate who was not wearing his mask correctly (over nose and mouth) it was half off his chin and he was the one engaging with majority of the customers and walking all throughout the store. Overall the staff is super helpful and I even asked a question that my associate didn't know and he walked over to the manager to get my answer right then and there. The effort was very much appreciated! I will definitely be bringing my local business back to this shop. read more

I had a very poor experience when I last brought my newly purchased second hand bike for service here. I brought the bike in because it was having a terrible free stroke issue with the rear brake lever, so when I would pull the brake lever it would reach the downs of the handlebar and it felt like I had no stopping power. The bicycle and issue was discussed/reviewed during intake with tech #1 and we decided it would be resolved with a brake bleed. While the bicycle was being maintained over a 2 week duration (not sure why this will take 2 weeks), I received a text message from tech #2 that my rear brake was squealing because it was considered to be contaminated. Then, I questioned why or how it was contaminated because it was not like that during the intake period with tech #1, so tech #2 told me I brought it in contaminated, and that my only option was to replace the brake pads/rear rotor. I guess that's a fair assessment since I just bought this bicycle second hand and it could have been a true story. Tech #2 went on and stated that they sanded the pads and rotor to try and clean it to resolve the new squealing issue. So far so good, and I appreciated the effort, but I didn't follow through with the brake pad and rotor replacement because I wanted to know how the rear brake felt after the brake bleed. Finally, the bicycle maintenance was completed after a 2 week period, so I go and pick the bicycle up and notice I'm still having the same issue with the free stroke on my rear brake lever. I discussed it with tech #2 and he brings up the issue is the contaminated pads and rear rotor. At this point I accepted that the contaminated parts were the issue since I'm not bicycle expert, but didn't have time to ask to fix it or want to accept that I'll need to replace brake pads and a rear rotor, so I left the shop as is (basically nothing fixed for my rear brake free stroke issue). Then a couple days later before I was going to ride the bicycle I recognized on the receipt work order that the brake bleed wasn't checked off, so I went back and confronted tech #2 about it. He stated that he was the one who bled the brakes, made sure there were no air bubbles, and that he was sorry that he didn't check it off like the tech #3 checked off the other tasks completed on the receipt work order (I thought it was weird how a tech #3 only serviced a portion of my bicycle [items checked off on receipt work order]). Again during conversation, tech #2 mentioned that I brought the bicycle in with contaminated parts and that was the issue. He then proceeded to tell me that I knew I brought it in with contaminated parts because I said I had no stopping power when I told him that this squealing issue was not noticed during intake with tech #1 (and unknowingly I may have brought it in with contaminated parts because I just bought the bicycle second hand and am not an expert). Next, he brought me over to a bicycle in the show room area to show me an example of how the brakes should have the same amount of free stroke as my bicycle, but when we checked the show room bicycle's free stroke it was perfection and it was not comparable to my bicycle's issue - complete opposite in fact. Now, he made an excuse stating that the other tech who built that bicycle over pressurized the rear brake line/lever and that he doesn't build bikes that way, so we parted ways both disgruntled. Later on a friend recommended that I take my bicycle issue to a shop in the South Bay. I decided to make the trek and the tech at this South Bay bicycle shop stated it probably needs a brake bleed and potentially new pads at first glance, but never mentioned anything about parts being contaminated after I showed him the brake squeal. I decided to move forward and have this South Bay bicycle shop re-bleed the brakes and change the pads, but when I went to pick it up it they mentioned the only work performed was a brake bleed. Resolve!!! My rear brake free stroke issue was completely fixed and they didn't even change the brake pads, didn't charge me for brake fluid, and it was a flat fee for the brake bleed. TL;DR: CentriPEDAL will provide inconsistent workmanship, poor quality, still charge your for unresolved issues and then try to up sell you on purchasing more parts to "fix" your bicycle. I have attached the receipt work order from CentriPEDAL and the other South Bay bicycle shop (that actually fixed my bicycle) for reference. read more

I used to go to Centripedal for my bike maintenance before. I was happy with their service before, but now after my most recent experience, I don't think I'll go back. So I went in for adjustment of my front and rear derailleur. The technician I felt like was rushing just to finish job and was not careful. I get it that the crank needed to be turned fast, but it looked he was not careful because the chain dropped it hit my frame quite hard. I was so worried that the chain might scratch or chip the paint on my carbon fiber frame. I'm sure he knows how expensive carbon frame is so he really should be more careful. The tech was also sarcastic cause while I was testing it out, the chain dropped again while I was turning the crank backward (just to test), and he said 'well you should pedal forward not backward'. Well, obviously I have a freewheel hub and not a fixie so sometimes I need to freewheel or pedal backward esp when trying to clip on my cleats right? read more

All the employees have been kind and warm. Some of the cashiers are less knowledgeable but there are always experts in the service center. read more
