I bought my mountain bike here because it was a screaming deal on year-end clearance. They are nice people but my experience with their service department has been disappointing. On my first ride after I picked the bike up, the brake lines were full of air, enough so that my front brake was not really functional. When I brought it back to the shop, I also mentioned that the chain was skipping off the cogs under load in the higher gears. They took care of the brake problem, but I literally had to go back three times before they warrantied the cassette, which fixed the problem. They just kept adjusting the derailleur. I don't think they test rode it because they would call me and tell me it was fixed. I finally had them go out the back of the shop with me and ride along with me to show them how it skipped. The other issue was the bike started shutting off (it's an E bike) when I would hit rough sections on the trail. I had to take it back multiple times before they finally warrantied the battery and mounts. Each time I took it in they would call me and tell me it was fixed. I would go to start a ride and within a very short period the bike would shut down again. I get that this is a problem with the bike manufacturer and not the service department, but a quick search on Reddit revealed that this was a known problem and a warranty issue. It shouldn't have taken multiple visits and so much time with the bike in the shop to get it corrected. Most recently, I took it in to have the brake lines bled, and when I picked it up, one of the mechanics told me that the back brake was making noise. The service manager said that couldn't be anything they did they just bleed the brakes. However, when I got home, it sounded like a bagpipe every time I hit the brakes and it certainly didn't do that before I took it in. I think the brake pads got contaminated with brake fluid. Also, the retaining clips that keep the pin holding the brake pads from falling off were missing from both brake calipers. I called and spoke to the service manager. He told me that the clips aren't really necessary as long as you keep things tight. I asked if they had them in the shop and if I could come get them and he said he wasn't sure what part I was talking about and he would have to look at them. At that point, I just ordered a new brake pads and clips on Amazon and I'm done with this shop. read more

First off I want to mention I am not posting this out of emotions or anger. I want to express and share my honest experience of what happened to me at this bike shop and warn all of you before you decide to have service at this bike shop. I've had a hard time finding a good bicycle mechanic and I decided to try Castro Valley Cyclery and my first impression was how empty the shop was. Not one single customer, completely empty. I explained, " all I need was a Derailleur adjustment and everything else on the bike was new, so there was nothing wrong except it needs an adjustment" The manager, Tyler Dietrich, tried to sell me a bunch of things and I declined because he was desperate to make a sale and not out of honesty. When I picked up the bike a few days later after receiving a message that it was ready, again I noticed the bike shop was completely empty, 0 customers. I took bike out for a test ride and noticed the adjustment wasn't made. I mentioned to the manager, Tyler Dietrich, and he put it on rack and said there's nothing wrong. I told him, "you need to put a load on the bike and ride it. He rode it around the shop and he realized the shifting wasn't right and said, "there's nothing wrong" He said I need to get new parts and again tried to sell me stuff that wasn't needed. Next he began to get confrontational with me which I didn't understand because I am the customer and I am the one paying for service. I asked for a refund, which he gave me and told me to never come back again. I was shocked. All of you Mountain bikers and road cyclists who likes to have your bikes dialed in, adjusted properly, fine-tuned, DO NOT GO TO THIS BIKE SHOP. You will be disappointed. Trust me. Now it makes sense why their were no customers here. And if you need to buy a new bike go somewhere else. This place isn't worth the headache and frustrations. read more

I walked in to make an appointment for disc brake pad replacement, instead I did not get his name, but I should've, he takes my bike put it up on the rack tells me I have about another 500 miles to go on my pads. Adjust my brakes drops a couple drops of oil here and there ask me how does this feel? It felt great I said. Have a nice day. This place is great! I installed some training wheels on my son's bike but was worried they were a little off since the bike was old. I called and Zack advised I could bring it by for a quick diagnostic. It'd be $20 if they did any service, he advised. I was able to find parking surprisingly easily (they are on thr opposite side of the busy part of this plaza, making parking a bit better -- otherwise this lot is always chock full of cars) and was greeted by possibly the owner and Zack. He took a look and said they were installed properly (a big win for someone not very handy like me), but adjusted one of the training wheels just because it wasn't completely even with the other one. Took him about 5 minutes and he didn't even charge me. Amazing friendly and knowledgeable service. Highly recommend. Zack even gave me advice on a San Ramon park (Memorial) that offered a little dirt bike track for when my son gets older and is still into biking. Great place. read more

We came to this shop to get more information about e-bikes and some of the new laws and requirements that have come out. The younger sales associate came over to talk to us, he let us know that they don't sell anything similar to what we were looking for, but wanted to show us what they could order. We asked questions about all the new speed and power regulations for these bikes since we would have to go up a very steep hill. The associate was unhelpful and just speaking down to us and said: "Well I'm sure you're just gonna keep watching YouTube and buy a shitty Chinese bike." Not only is this offensive it was also uncalled for since we were trying to understand these rules and instead of telling us he didn't understand the new rules or didn't know anything about it, he just kept talking down to us. I hate leaving reviews for businesses when I haven't been able to actually use their services, but this was absolutely abhorrent behavior and I would never buy a bike from here even if they had something I wanted. read more

One of my many visits, I was pulling in and immediately was asked if I needed help taking my bike off and bringing it in - so kind and attentive of who is pulling into those front parking spots. I had taken a couple bikes here before (a hybrid from Liv and a beach cruiser by Electra) and both were bought from this exact shop (one was when it was Eden Bicycles and the other when it was taken over by Trek). Other items I have purchased from here: bike lights, squeaker, basket (x2 cause my first one broke off my bike after falling so many times my first year on the playa - I know how to ride, I just for whatever reason kept falling, haha), travel bag that attaches to one of my bikes back rail thing, bike rack for my car, camelbak backpack (which I do not really rec taking to BM cause I really liked it and the playa dust ruined it - maybe I could try washing it, oops), tubing, tool kit, and pump. I had a bike as a kid, but these were my first bikes and accessories I had gotten on my own as an adult, lol. They let you test ride in the back of the building and they have also helped show me how to place the bike rack onto the back of my car, how to place my bike on the rack - practiced a few times until I felt comfortable which I really appreciated being so new at everything after so many years of not having a bike nor a rack. Some of items we ordered online and were assembled (bike rack) at the shop which I also appreciated because I wanted to make sure everything was done correctly by the experts! Expected same day service for what I had brought my bike in for, but stopped by the following day since they closed at 5pm that day. I believe I had done a basic tune up / cleaning for one of them and then the other bike I had brought in was on the house which I believe was a cleaning / lubing the chain and making sure tire pressure was fine (both bikes were taken to BM two different years - while they do not typically take burner bikes in for servicing, the guy who helped me was super nice in taking in my first bike which clearly was dirty cause I hadn't touched it in a year... my other bike was in pretty good shape and he was shocked at how clean it was, but I think it was honestly because I had furry covers on the body most of the time and then I didn't ride it at all after the mud had developed). When it was Eden, it seemed like they had more merchandise out on the floor than they do now... but when you enter the shop, there's a lot more space to move around and it's pretty clear where you should go for certain merch. Staff is great, welcoming, helpful, and honest. I had visited other shops before making my purchases, but decided to shop here locally to support a small store in town. I took my Huffy bike to Trek because the back brakes weren't working and the rear tire kept going flat. When the technician looked at the bike he quickly realized that I had assembled the front forks and handle bars backwards. Fortunately, there was time in his schedule and the technician was able to fix my mistakes while we waited. About 15-20 minutes later the technician was finished and my bike was better than new. I'm very happy with the customer and technician's service that I received at Trek. They were upfront about their service and pricing, and didn't try to sell me anything that I didn't need. In addition to that, they didn't charge me for "a few adjustments". How great are they?! Next time I'll have Trek assemble my bikes or just buy one from them! Thanks, Trek! read more

They refuse to take accountability for their lack of time management. My husband brought in his bike on Saturday morning they promised on Tuesday it would be completed. My husband called Tuesday morning to confirm and they said it will be done today unless "something catastrophic occurred" he came in 30 mins before closing to the bike still on the rack having no crankset installed, at that my husband asked for his bike back, when given the bike back the associate said "well i would apologize, but there is nothing to apologize for" . I can't speak on their product, so I won't say anything about quality of what they sell, but I wouldn't consider purchasing from a store that is condescending to their potential customers. I brought my dad in to get some questions answered related to EBike laws in CA. Initially, the person who helped us stated " yea that's something you have to research". My dad and him started a conversation related to what he wanted appearance and usage wise. He showed him a few photos of bikes he saw online and told the employee that he watched YouTube, hoping for some clarity about the law but still felt confused. He hoped that going into a store with experts would help him get the answers, but instead he was berated. The conversation dwindled down to the employee telling my dad "that's fine. Watch your YouTube videos and buy a SHITTY CHINESE BIKE". My dad thanked him, and we left. No need to cause a scene or go back and forth with someone who is so comfortable speaking to others that way. Regardless of the context, that's not how you should talk to anyone. I'm so disappointed, as the old Eden Cycle was a great store with approachable customer service. read more

Efficient and honest business! Highly recommended for all kind of repair services for your bicycle. My bicycle front and rear brake is not working, I tried to do the brake adjustment myself by YouTube tutorial but couldn't get it to work. They did the brake adjustment in about 15 to 20 mins, explained how they fix it, and charged me $19 for it. They didn't try to suggest me to replace the brake pads so that they can make more money, and I really appreciate that. For comparison, the other store put me on their waiting list for the repair (because they couldn't do it on the same day), and quotes me $60 for the brake adjustment, and $29 for each brake pads replacement. read more

Top notch customer service from start to finish. Liam helped me select the mountain bike that was the best fit for my skill level (complete beginner) and the types of trails that I want to ride (fire roads, wide dirt paths and some pavement). The shop assembled a Liv Tempt 1 they had in stock for me to test ride. Loved it but it was a bit too small so Liam ordered the next size up for me and it arrived and was built in about a week. I went into the shop today to pick it up and Andrew got me ready to ride with lots of helpful recommendations and assistance with sizing and fit (helmet, gloves, bicycle shorts, kickstand, water bottle cage, safety lights, bike lock). He adjusted the seat and went over basic maintenance tips. Then he took my picture for me (cheesy happy grin!) and off I went! I rode home - 2.5 miles uphill. First time on a bike in over 10 years and I loved it! It makes a huge difference to purchase from a local shop with knowledgeable people who have years of experience with riding, maintenance, repairs and sales. Every employee who I dealt with was mellow, pleasant and professional. It seemed like everyone enjoys working together as a team and they're definitely welcoming and supportive of every skill level and type of bike. Came In looking for a SRAM 12 speed cassette to fit the XDR hub on my new wheels. They had options when everyone else had nothing. Worked with Gethyn to equip my older Norco Valence with a dope Ultegra/105 groupset and new bottom bracket. My baby now has everything she deserves. They have inventory. Gethyn got me the spacer I needed for the new cassette to hub fittimemt and showed me what to look for when swapping to another hub. My fiancé and I were looking up local bike shops on yelp and came across Eden. After browsing through their online selection, we decided to check them out in person. The first thing I want to mention is that their safety protocols during this pandemic is great. We were told to go to the back door of the store and were helped just as well as if we were in the store. All employees were using masks and physically distancing as much as possible. So I decided to join Eden Diva's to condition for my first Cinderella Classic event. Started the season on a steel gravel bike and fat tires. The going was tough; I was working harder than I needed to be... I just wasn't set up right for road. So Gaelan just set me up with a nice road bike, configured with a drivetrain (cassette/derailleur) tailored for me so that I would have an easier to time on the climbs/hills to boot. What a difference, so nice! First ride out, it worked great, fit was good, and climbs were manageable! Still, to make sure it's just right, I still get a follow up bike fitting! Service is top at Eden, quick turnaround, up to date knowledgeable techs... Also, I've been having a lot of fun riding with Eden Diva's. Great community vibe, ...friendly, accommodating, welcoming to beginners like me! It's nice to ride with a group. Nice enough staff and apparently knowledgeable. But I am a little tired of getting the hard sell on buying a new bike every time I go in. This time, I went in for an estimate on a tuneup. The tech's first response was, "How about instead you buy a new bike". When I hesitated, he started rattling off all the parts that would need to be replaced and racked up the price to somewhere in the neighborhood of $200-300. Mind you, the bike is old, but it's still in good shape and totally rideable except I can't shift into the higher gears. Got referred to Chris at Eden Bicycles for a bike fitting for my new (used) Specialized Aethos. The person who referred me runs a bike shop in Livermore, but they didn't do fittings. So, already before even walking in, I'm thinking Chris and Eden must be pretty special to get recommended by one of their competitors. We'll, they did not disappoint! I paid for the full fitting which took about three hours. Chris was obviously very well trained and experienced. His methodical approach, the many measurements, his constant checking in with me after each adjustment, all made me feel like I was clearly in the hands of a caring pro. Most importantly, I felt SO much more comfortable on my bike when it was all done - and not just more comfortable, but like I'd be a stronger, more powerful rider now that my body and bike were geometrically working more in concert. I'd highly recommend getting a fitting by Chris to anyone who wants a better experience on their bike. Over the course of the 3 hours I spent there I also got a sense of the overall vibe of the shop and the other people there and it was great - it's a friendly group, they seems to enjoy working together and a general sense of competence and friendliness just pervade the place. All apart from the fitting, I also got some new shoes and other gear while I was there and was pleased with the selection - it's a good mix, from "serious" cyclist gear (and bikes) to gear and bikes for more casual cyclists. When it's time for me to upgrade to carbon wheels or for my wife to upgrade her hybrid bike, I'll be back for sure. read more
