I love empresso for studying! The drinks and food are great. My go to is the caramella with soy milk or a dirty chai with soy chai. I'm newer into drinking coffee but I constantly crave those two drinks. I also enjoy their sandwiches & paninis as well. The service is always great and so are the suggestions from the workers. It does get a little busier with all the foot traffic so if you want a quieter space to study I would recommend going in the mornings. read more

Food: The food is awesome, they have paninis and breakfast sandwiches options. Coffee/Drinks: I have tried almost all of their coffee menu options and none of them have disappointed. Alright, so I'm def feeling the vibe. I walked in on a cold day and immediately felt at peace to be in a warm, cozy, not-super-loud lil' spot to ride out the wait until my friend was done running an errand nearby and we could reunite. (Wasted time really; I ended up clutching a black coffee as I usually do.) For a few seconds I contemplated getting something to eat, too, but I couldn't decide between food and coffee and I can't do both at the same time--so caffeine won. (As it usually does.) Alright, now let's break down the brew -- which is where the true breakdown began for me. The coffee just isn't that good. I couldn't tell if it had been burnt or wasn't hugged enough as a child but it was bitter as all get-out! I definitely think that the flavor left a lot to be desired, but again, it could've just been burnt brew, because it's pretty implausible to me that a coffee shop would survive too long without having decent coffee, of all things. We've been here a couple of times now. It's a very quaint little coffee shop. It's always full, lots of people hanging out with laptops. We like their bagels, and their coffee drinks taste really good. They even make artistic designs in the latte's. It's bright and clean, and not too loud. I do wish that they used thermometers for the coffee drinks though, because they come so hot that you have to wait a good while to drink them, and you'll end up finishing your bagel or pastry without even a sip, and then you'll still be waiting for it to be a drinkable temperature. I was a little bit taken aback by this aspect. They have some original art for sale in the back near the restroom, which is kinda cool. read more

People do have a tendency to smoke outside (totally not empresso's fault but something to be aware of if you are respiratory sensitive like i am ‍). I prefer supporting a local business over a multi-national conglomerate, and I want to like this coffee shop, but each time I visit, I'm disappointed. The staff looks so depressed and annoyed to be there. There is so much potential to be labeled as "cozy" or "homey," but instead, it comes off as "cold." This is a small store, and when entering, you are about 10 feet from the barista and cashier. Common courtesy would be to say "Welcome" or "Good Morning" when looking up. Instead, employees look at you, make eye contact, and ignore you. It's an awkward five-minute wait for someone to come up to the register and take your order; when they do, it's a robotic "what can I get you?" and a radiating vibe that you are inconveniencing them. Don't expect a smile or "thank you" at any point. I order a simple hot Mocha; it's overpriced and nothing to brag about. Don't worry about burning yourself or needing the drink to cool down; mine has always been served lukewarm. A few of their sandwiches sound interesting, but I have not ventured there since this "coffee house" has not impressed me with their coffee drinks. The pastries in their display cabinet look very similar to Costco's pastries. Let me try this again! My boyfriend and I use to love going here but within the past 2 years it has gone downhill. The customer service to begin with , some of them need an attitude adjustment. I've been coming to Empresso for a while (since they had their second location before too), and their dirty chai lattes always are my favorite! Not only in Stockton, but most cafes. I no longer live in the area, but every time I visit, I'm always stopping my Empresso for my dirty chai. Today, I got one of their new/perhaps limited drinks called Strawberry Field (a strawberry matcha with vanilla) and while it was good, it could've used just a tad bit more vanilla syrup (I also have a smooth tooth). Overall, I love coming here for my daily coffee(s) and sometimes work dates (if you're lucky enough to grab a seat, they're typically busy).
