I both hate and love the color scheme of this restaurant. It reminds me of the Miami Seaquarium when I was a lad in the sixties. The colors of deep blue and weird green demand a barnacle look and seafood on the menu. However, this is a breakfast nook and they do an admirable job for a decent price. At just above twenty dollars, we had two breakfasts and two drinks. For some reason the Yankee lady that accompanied me thought that I should order grits, instead I ordered a scramble and was delighted with it. One of those things I miss about breakfast restaurants is a good glass of tea. They brew it up right here. on the cold morning that I was there they had it good and strong. There is no service at the table, so you have to order at the counter and they'll bring the food to you. I thought the potatoes were a bit salty, but I enjoyed the meal without the worry of an impending bankruptcy. I used to love Em's kitchen and I can't deny their food has always been one of my favorite but Im so disappointed right now! I'm over here enjoying my ooey gooey bar and a pecan that didn't seem like a pecan when I bit into it was on it. You know what comes next I spit it out and it's an Effin worm that was cooked into it! Ugh I'm sick to my stomach right now! I can see how it blended since it kind of looks like a pecan because it's brown now that it's been cooked but clearly the texture of the worm sets it apart. Great place to grab a sandwich to go during lunch. They do have a small dining area with a couple tables but it usually pretty full. No matter how long the line is it usually only takes a few minutes to get your order. So far my two favorites are the Reuben and the the chicken mull they have occasionally, if you are really in a hurry they have a cooler in the pharmacy with some pre-made sandwich's like Chicken Salad or Turkey. You can also call ahead or use there website. I try to get by as often as possible and try different things but the Reuben is by far my favorite in town! read more

We have eaten here over the years and have had their breakfast and lunch. I get the classic breakfast plate which is two eggs, a meat, toast, and sweet tea. You can add grits or potatoes. Eggs are always cooked perfectly. My wife likes their omelettes. For lunch I love their pimento cheese BLT or their Ruben. I want to love this place. It is female owned. It is a cottage industry. It is in my neighborhood. But... My spinach mushroom omlet was sitting in grease on my plate today. I had to blot it with my napkin to even eat a bit of it. My husband's grits reminded me why I never order them. It was early so I thought the thick grits were due to us coming later in the morning before... But they were too thick. I have eaten here at least a dozen times over the last two years. We arrived at 12:15 for brunch. The staff acted like we had inconvenienced them since they were closing at 1. There was no regular coffee ready and we had to wait 20 mins for them to make more coffee. Someone in our party ordered the quiche which appeared to be out of a box. She had a side called fruit medley which was mostly apples, 2 strawberry bits, and 1 grape. I had the breakfast tacos which were delicious but looked like something i could have made at home. However, the side of potatoes were dry and lacking seasoning. My husband got the eggs Benedict which were overcooked, the English muffin was not toasted, and the hollandaise was runny. Additionally, they charge for coffee refills which is something i rarey see. At 12:45, the staff began sweeping the floor beside us, cleaning tables, banging pots and pans, and grabbing dirty plates off the rack as soon as we placed them down. We catered lunch for 120 and everything arrived on time, beautifully presented, and delicious! people couldn't stop raving about the food. We had an evening function that was catered elsewhere and it was a disaster so this really made me appreciate how great my lunch experience with em's had been. Emily was always prompt to respond to my many changes prior to the event, and they arrived right on time and set up quickly. I won't be back, at least not for breakfast. The food was alright (quite good actually), but -- importantly -- for the same price (about $15 with tip), I can go somewhere else and get the same meal WITH full table service, and not have to get up to refill my own coffee and bus my own table when I'm through.
