I've been a longtime fan of the original Mama's Boy in Athens, so I had to check out The Falls location--and wow, this one really impressed me! It's newer, roomier, and has a more polished, modern feel while still keeping that Southern charm. What I Loved: * The Peach French Toast was absolutely delicious--sweet, comforting, and full of flavor. It totally lived up to the Mama's Boy reputation. * The Strawberry Lemonade was so good, and yes, free refills! Major win. * The new space is beautifully done. Clean, comfortable, and feels more upscale compared to the original, but still welcoming. It's always a good sign when a place expands and still keeps the quality and heart. This newer location might just be my go-to now!

Let me start by saying the food was delicious & I would be back for that if I'm ever in the area. I had heard for years this is THE breakfast spot to hit in Athens. We also recommend trying the jam on the table for your biscuit! The service was just a little weird. We got there when it opened so there were only a few customers around. They let one of our friends order separate & then forced two of us to order together even though all of us were paying separately. They did let us split the bill the way we wanted to but for counter service this seemed strange & forced one of our friends to feel as though she had to rush her order. Then one of our friends was brought out the wrong meal, which they ultimately fixed - but being some of the first customers of the day seemed odd. Once we had our food the server checked on us an appropriate amount of times for refills & seeing if we needed anything else which was appreciated.

After an eventful weekend, my girlfriend and I decided to rest and replenish. Our first stop was mama's boy. Upon walking in, the place was busy and lively. This is a counter service restaurant, so you order your food at front and they proceed to give you a number where you sit yourself. They'll bring you drinks, appetizers, and food. It's a crew of people working together to serve you and the service can be hit or miss if you need something extra. (My guess is they tip share here) The coffee was pretty mid, nothing out of the ordinary. The banana bread was warm and delicious it made me happy dance. It was one thick slice which is okay for $5. The goat cheese plate was yummy and very generous with the pita. The pepper sausage bowl was good and very filling. The company biscuit was flavorful and the salmon cake was tasty in it. Overall the food was good, a place well and it's worth visiting again!

Wow, has this place fallen off recently. Came for a mid morning breakfast with great anticipation, as they have always been good in the past. Found a nearly deserted place, with ordering at the counter as the only option. The attendant was pleasant enough, but I blanched at the request for a tip. Sorry, but if I have to stand at a counter to order, I don't tip, which I reserve for good service. Ordered a side of sausage gravy for my biscuit, and received a side of sausage patties instead. When they corrected this error, they brought me a stingy half full serving of lukewarm gravy instead - definitely not worth the $3.49 surcharge. All the food tasted fine, but the serving amounts clearly are victims of shrinkflation. Bill came to $21.03. I am not impressed. Left feeling sadly disappointed. Not sure if I would return. At least the downtown Athens location has some atmosphere. I may try that one again, hopefully with a better experience.

I heard great things about this place and decided to try it and I will say it's a must try in Athens. The biscuits are absolutely incredible! I was foaming at the mouth damn near. The service was great and they had our food out very quickly. In conclusion this is one of the best biscuits and breakfast places I've been too in a while.

Best breakfast spot in Athens! You can't go wrong with the Milltown breakfast plate, the giant cinnamon roll, or the sausage breakfast bowl. Literally everything here is so good, from the biscuit to the homemade raspberry jam.

A huge biscuit, cheese grits, bacon, and two fried eggs. Very filling and quite good.

It's been a while (years, actually) since I dined at Mama's Boy at the Falls, but we were in the area, so hubby, our adult son, and I dined there recently. The facility is very spacious, especially in comparison to the "mother ship" over on Oconee Street. Parking is plentiful, and there is a nifty patio for outdoor dining. The interior has a lot fewer tables than it did before (a good thing!) although there's not much to deaden sound, so it seemed kinda noisy even half empty. The model is now fast casual, with some menus in a box if one is unfamiliar with it. I'd reviewed it online, so it didn't take long to put in the order. By the time we picked a table and got seated, coffee and water were served. Not long after, we got our meals. Hubby and son both got some sort of biscuit sandwich, and they were hungry, so I didn't get a picture of theirs, but I grabbed my phone and took one prior to digging in. I got the very first item on the breakfast menu, which is a couple of eggs, plus protein, side item, and bread. This was a lot of food! I thought mine to be very flavorful, but I had just had one of those darned "fasting" medical appointments, so maybe I was just really hungry. The coffee was good and refills were brought in a timely manner. While I am not a huge fan of fast casual, this was a very good visit. Service was quick, food was really good, and the coffee was even better. So much better than the traditional breakfast spots we passed by on the way over....

All my Athens friends have HIGHLY recommended Mama's Boy, so I was excited to finally try it out! There was about a 30 minute wait for my friend and I on a Sunday morning but it went by relatively quickly and they let us look at menus while we waited for the text letting us know we could be seated. Inside, you order and pay first at the counter and then are seated. There's plenty of space. I ordered the Salmon Cakes Benedict and also a half order of the Georgia Peach French Toast. Both dishes were absolutely delicious! The eggs were poached perfectly and the french toast was the perfect amount of sweet to finish my brunch. I would definitely recommend stopping by Mamas Boy next time you're in Athens!

Love love love this place! Such an iconic Athens restaurant, so glad it survived the pandemic. I prefer the Falls location because of an abundance of parking options. Plus a cool view of the waterfall is never bad. Due to short staffing the group had to order at the kiosk (they had a weird way of taking everyone's order first and then lining up again to pay ) but once we got to the table everything was brought to us. All the food was delicious, the flavors were well balanced and the wait staff was very courteous and took very good care of us! Cheers to many more years Mama's Boy! A must visit on your next Athens trip.

I definitely recommend coming and expecting a wait. We checked out a store nearby while we waited so it wasn't bad! Had an amazing brunch with some friends this past weekend. The entire table LOVED their food. Staff was super friendly and attentive. The seating is pretty open and you seat yourself. There wasn't really any ambiance music or anything, but the place is lively :) We had quite a spread and I definitely recommend the cinnamon bun and French toast! I personally had the salmon Benedict and thought it was delicious! The biscuits are big and soft. Definitely coming back!

Mama's Boy was my favorite restaurant when I was a college student in Athens. During a trip back to Athens, I saw this new location and knew I had to stop by for brunch. Just like always, I loved their food! I ordered the bacon egg scrambler as I usually do, and my fiancé ordered one of the benedicts. Portion sizes were smaller than I remember them being. My scrambler didn't fill me up at all, but it was good. The biscuits tend to be a hit or miss. They make the most amazing biscuits and I love it with their jam. But sometimes they come out burnt. Today was a miss day. My biscuit was very hard and burnt- not the soft, fluffy biscuit I love so much from them. It was still good with lots of the jam though. The truck stop benedict was also good and very filling! It comes with two poached eggs on biscuits with fried chicken and sausage gravy. The poached eggs are always perfect here, and the biscuits with this dish was soft and cooked perfectly. I do wish that they were more consistent with their biscuits because it is one of the reasons I look forward to coming here. I also wish their portion sizes were bigger especially for the price. But, the food tastes amazing and I will always love Mama's Boy!

They got a table ready for a party of 6 pretty quickly which was great! They have two dining areas inside and outside seating available. I ordered the peach french toast with potatoes, another person ordered the cinnamon roll to start and the a biscuit with gravy. My husband ordered the pulled pork bowl on grits and a side of fried chicken . The kids had french toast with fruit. My potatoes I can tell were from a bag and not fresh cut potatoes. They were tiny and probably what you can purchase at the grocery store, so they were crunch and hard to eat. The french toast didn't have the best taste, and the peaches seemed canned. Presentation was nice but I wouldn't order that again. My husband did not enjoy his pulled pork bowl either, he said it lacked a bit of flavor. The cinnamon roll was a little hard like it had been sitting for a bit. Now for the good, the fried chicken was some of the best chicken I had tasted so whatever is being done there keep it up! The biscuits with the jam available on the table were amazing! The kids enjoyed their kids meal as well. If in Athens again we would definitely get the chicken and biscuit but skip the other items we previously ordered.

The food: I went with the Fried Chicken Blue Plate. Between the regular and the Nashville Hot, the Nashville was the winner--flavorful and moist without being overwhelming with the spice. Huge shoutout to my server for suggesting the brussel sprouts; that glaze is incredible and they were easily my favorite part of the plate. The mashed sweet potatoes were unique--I'm still debating if I liked them or loved them. The jalapeño cornbread was a bit sweet for my taste but on par with most restaurant cornbread. The mac & cheese wasn't bad, but also didn't do much for me like most restaurant mac & cheese. The cocktail: Do not sleep on Nana's Naissance. I wasn't sure what to expect from the ingredients, but it's like an elevated take on Rumchata. The service: I was seated at the bar and experienced a noticeable delay--a group that arrived well after me almost finished their meal before mine arrived. However, the waitress acknowledged the wait before I even had to mention it and made things right. I really appreciate that kind of proactive service. We're all human, and they handled the situation very professionally.

I do that sometimes when I just can't decide but I pay for it for about a week. I don't try to do that anymore. lol I did notice many similarities so the sweet gluten must be what is good there. I consider all that processed sugar and the gluten filled garbage GMO flours to be horrible for our bodies. That happens as you learn how these foods actually affect your body and DIS-EASE! Now, I am weeding out the restaurants I will no longer eat at. If you don't care about the wellbeing of your customer's health, then you only care about $$$! I will no longer be eating at establishments that don't use quality ingredients and will focus more on Mom & Pop Locally owned places that do! These businesses need to do better so we aren't constantly sick and medicated beings! They have brainwashed us to eating garbage that other countries do not allow! The ONLY positive thing I can say is the hostess was on point! She was constantly working, bouncing around, handling things, completely pleasant with a smile on her face. She is the reason for 2* and not 1. She was the only 1! I'm only giving a description of her so she is recognized because I do not know her name. Cute dark skinned woman with her hair pulled back with a head band/wrap. She deserves a raise and employee of the month! Everyone else seemed pissy or too concerned with whatever gossip they had to chat about. Waitress literally said, "They just consider it gluten friendly by taking the bread off". Not even grits or potatoes are listed as "GF". Manager came out to explain why grits weren't GF. Idk why they try to appear "healthy". They offer alternatives to pork, but that's about it. Manager said the grits company doesn't claim to be GF so therefore they don't. Well, if the company isn't claiming it, they are most likely using the cheapest of the cheap GMO'd corn! Obviously, just my opinion, but I'm so tired of these restaurants charging so much for garbage food. Waitress is extremely pleasant! lol That is sarcasm for anyone not tracking. Brought the hubs unsweet tea when he ordered sweet! Lol Asked if we were ready to order 3x in less than 5 min while our heads were still down staring at the menus. Then, when we were ready, she was taking money for a guy at the bar, serving another table a beverage, and serving another table their food, while 3 other employees stood around a cleaning station chatting. An elderly gentleman and his caregiver came in but the hostess was outside for some reason. He sat himself at a dirty table. They ignored him until he started waving his arm at staff. I saw the interaction prior. 1 employee saw what he had done and told the others but they ignored the dirty table and the people until he got agitated. Then, they moved him to the table behind him, that they did clean while he was sitting there waiting to be acknowledged. We needed a quick bite in between Dr appts. I wish we had driven a bit further rather than coming here. I'm not hopeful for the cheese grits with turkey bacon I selected because nothing else was appealing and wouldn't destroy my stomach. Guess I'll deal with inflammation today from the gmo corn. The hubs got an egg and cheese biscuit. She didn't ask him how he wanted his eggs cooked or what kind of cheese. It's a mystery what he will get lol. Yes! I am writing this while sitting here! lol It's been 10+ minutes since the old man moved tables and the table he sat at is STILL dirty with dishes. Waitress just came to inform us, after waiting 20 minutes already, that they put pork bacon in my grits so it's going to be a few more minutes. I'm confused??? Why is my husband's food not being brought out? That means his is sitting back there waiting on my GRITS! Come on! 5 more minutes and the results???? Absolutely the most disgusting thing I've ever seen brought out. Check out the picture! lol what on earth is that even? Tasted like generic cheese soup dumped on top of a tiny bowl of semi good grits with half a slice of bacon cut up in it. They called that "Loaded" grits. Lol It was disgusting and those grits are NOT creamy or dreamy! They are so cheap they don't even get the GF tag. lol The hubs biscuit was horribly dry, so little egg you couldn't see it, and the "moon dusted" potatoes tasted like yesterday's home fries, with no dusting or even salt. Quite literally the worst food and service I have seen in a long time! Watched 2 servers NOT sit a family with a girl on crutches, waiting for the hostess to finish dealing with a to-go order. It was like no one helps anyone in there and the customer is last on the priority list!
