I visited the Athens area for work recently and loved Maepole so much that I ate here twice. How I wish they had locations in Colorado! Food is excellent, it's almost the only place that has whole foods as their main food. Serving sizes are abysmal. I keep coming back because the food is good but everytime I watch the guy give the most piddly serving. 5.95 is too much for the amount of food. People behind the line always make it seem like they are trying to give as little food as possible. Also the chicken plate had almost no chicken. The guy scooping was lazy and the was like three bites of chicken too! I shouldn't be going out to purchase a meal and feel like I'm at the breadline/eating rations. It is disappointing, and walking away feeling like I'm overpaying for like no food makes me unhappy and not want to come back. Feels like this every time recently! I've been a frequent customer of the Maepole North Athens location since I was a wee college freshman six years ago, so hearing that they opened another Maepole on Epps Bridge was exhilarating. My boyfriend and I stumbled in after the host at the breakfast joint across the parking lot tricked us with the old "30 minute wait that turns in to an hour and a half" trick, so we were hungry and, now being 1:00pm, no longer in the mood for breakfast. Needless to say, Maepole rose to the occasion. Well, rose to the occasion as best as a the minimalist style of Maepole possibly can. The new location was cute, the service was good, and the food, as always, was healthy and delicious. Casual Food 4/5 Diners walk along a cafeteria-style line and choose items from a buffet-style display of food behind glass. Choices include 3-4 vegetarian bases on which to add vegetable sides and some sauces. For protein there are chicken, pork, tofu, or a vegetarian addition. There are some pre-set combination plates. Food is well seasoned and fresh. We like the sweet potato base and the hot vegetable sides, especially the green beans, but our friends like the quinoa. It is a hit or miss with this location. Today the flavor was off and the serving was very small. The chicken was in tiny pieces and very dry. Chicken with super greens, string beans, and broccoli. Everything was good however I didn't realize that the broccoli wasn't served warm so I didn't care for it particularly.
