    World's Largest Light Maze
    Ricky M.

I had a wonderful time at Enchant Christmas in Arcadia, CA, after the holidays. Enchant has the 'World's Largest Light Maze' with 10 acres! Granted, it was raining a bit when we went, but luckily, it wasn't too crowded at all. I did hear that it was extremely crowded during the peak, with approximately 20,000 visitors. So whoa! Some cool tips: there is a cute ice skating rink. I recommend prebooking your skates, as they can sell out quickly. For the maze, look for the giant light-up whale; it's one of the best photo ops. The ice slide and Ferris wheel are optional add-ons, so be sure to plan your budget accordingly. It's also a cashless venue, so they only accept credit cards, Google Pay, or Apple Pay.  Parking is also $25, which is overpriced. A lot of the items were overpriced, but again, we visited after the holidays, so there was a massive discount on the merchandise, which was up to 60% off. I should have bought some, but I still had a great time.

Enchant LA in Arcadia is full of festive lights, glowing displays, music, and holiday energy. ::Experience:: We spent a lot of time walking through the light displays and maze, which was pretty. There was a lot of great photo spots. One of my favorite parts of the night was sitting by the fire pit and making s'mores. ::Food & Drinks:: We had yakitori Yado (chicken skewers with mochi) and the lobster garlic pasta, and both tasted good. There were plenty of food options throughout the event. The vendors were also selling jewelry, desserts, and small gift items. ::Customer Service:: The staff we interacted with were friendly. Everything felt organized, even with a good amount of people there. ::Tips:: -Go as early as possible because it gets packed -Purchase tickets and parking online ::M's Notes:: -Parking lot

Definitely not worth it, and here's why. I purchased tickets online for a Saturday 7:30-8:30 pm time window, which cost $45 per person plus an additional $25 for parking. The instructions specifically said not to map Santa Anita Park and instead search for Gate 3, but that only led to confusion. When we arrived, traffic was already backed up with cars lined up for miles. What we thought would be a straightforward entrance turned into nearly **two hours** of bumper-to-bumper traffic just to park. Cars were cutting in line, tempers were clearly rising, and there was no visible traffic control or staff directing vehicles. The time window felt completely meaningless. Even people who walked to the event managed to get inside earlier than those of us who paid for parking. By the time we finally entered the park, it was extremely crowded, making it difficult to enjoy the experience. While I'll admit the lights were nice, they weren't anything spectacular or memorable enough to justify the cost, the crowding, or the long wait. For the price we paid, I expected a much more organized and enjoyable event. I've been to similar light displays and events that were far better managed and more worth the money. Overall, this experience was overpriced, poorly organized, and a total waste of time.

We kept seeing a bunch of ads for Enchant pop up everywhere. It looked fun and magical, so my husband and I planned a nice date night here. We paid $43 each for general admission tickets plus $15 per adult for ice skating, another $15 per adult for the snow slide, and $30 for parking. That's almost $200, which is a bit pricey for what you get from this experience. Parking was a bit confusing at first. There was basically no signage anywhere telling you which directions to go for parking. I wish it was more organized and clear. Purchasing add-ons like ice skating, snow slide, ferris wheel, or mini golf ahead of time is a must. If you try to buy it while you are there, it will probably be sold out. My favorite part about Enchant was definitely the Christmas light maze. There were many great photo opportunities, and the various lights were beautiful. It wasn't as large or crowded as I expected it to be. Least favorite would be the snow slide. One slide lasts less than a minute. The activity finished really quickly, and the thrill wasn't that great. I can imagine this being more enjoyable for young children. Ice skating was a nice activity, but the skating trail definitely felt overcrowded. There were open cubbies to put our shoes and belongings in, but they were very dirty and unsupervised. Overall, my husband and I still enjoyed our date night here. Would we visit again though? Probably not.

I found out about enchant through many ads on my socials. Tickets were $45/person. I originally thought it was located at Santa Anita Park, but it's located on the corner of the parking lot of Santa Anita Mall. Nothing like Christmas lights with the view of an AMC and Dave & busters. We went on Saturday at the 6:30 slot so you can imagine how busy it was. It took over an hour, just to get into the parking lot. It was annoying since so many cars in the other lanes kept cutting over and no one was regulating traffic. We didn't buy parking beforehand so it was $35.50. It was super crowded and packed. Most spots were so crowded, I'm shoulder to shoulder slowly inching forward. They have a ton of different food vendors and drink booths. They have an indoor bar as well to keep you cool. The main food area had tables around, but not nearly as much. We had to stand to eat. All the food and snacks averaged around $20. The brisket Mac was good, but their meat was too chewy. I really liked their Baileys hot chocolate. There were a ton of different vendors selling random items ranching from keychains, labubus, and clothes. The light maze was probably my favorite. It just sucked since you could hardly get around without having to stop every few seconds because multiple different people are taking photos or videos or people stopping randomly in the middle of the walkway. They had a lot of different light installations. They have ice skating, tubing, mini golf, and private igloo areas as well. Enchant was a cool experience, but I feel like I would've liked it so much more if it wasn't so crowded and packed. It took away from the experience.

We bought tickets online which was $42 per adult. Parking was $25 and the total also included a $4 service charge. We arrived right at 4:30pm and it was smooth to get into the parking lot with people guiding you toward your parking spot. We walked through the different light tunnels and saw the different light structures. The maze was cool and included a little game to find the eight structures. There were really tall Christmas trees and really cool light objects like carriages, bears, and whales. The event venue has snacks and shops, drink stalls throughout, a food court, mini golf, ferris wheel, and an ice rink. There was indoor and outdoor seating with tables and lounges to people watch. Overall we spent about an hour here. If we did the ice rink, the snow slide, or had eaten here we could've spent more time. This is definitely a family friendly place that is a good spot for pictures surrounded by lights.

We were worried after reading some of the negative reviews but we visited on a Thursday night and it was busy but not overwhelming. We were able to maneuver through the crowds pretty easily and see most everything in 2 hours but I can see that maybe on a capacity night it could get very tight with long lines. It took us about 15 mins to get into the parking lot but note that the entrance is on Holly street off of Huntington drive at Gate 3 that is listed on their website. Prepurchase parking as they just scan the QR code then. There were a lot of cars trying to enter through the wrong parking gates and those were all backed up. Plenty of food and retail booths / even a whole food court area with yakitori to pasta cheese wheel booths and some unique foodie items. Plenty of bars. Most of the retail venders are the same from the 626 night market but a few added with holiday items. Pricing is like theme parks/stadiums so expect a $7 churro or water, pretzel looked like the best deal. S'mores area was cool for kids. Ice skating path looked fun with skate rental. Line dancing class was fun. Lots of people at the mini golf and slide area. Maze was nice but I can see on weekends might be very tight to maneuver in with large crowds. I think it's a nice one time holiday excursion especially if you have kids or are looking for a date evening. Would I return? Probably not - I think one time was entertaining but not sure if I would repeat unless there was a lot more added content.

We took our kids to Enchant and they absolutely loved it! So many beautiful lights everywhere and the holiday music really puts you in the Christmas spirit. There's ice skating, ice tubing, and plenty of drinks for both kids and adults, which was a nice touch. We arrived around 6:30pm and parking was still manageable, but by the time we left around 8pm it was definitely a mess -- something to keep in mind. We went on a Tuesday and it was already pretty busy, so I can only imagine weekends get extremely crowded. Overall, a great holiday experience, especially for families with kids. Definitely worth checking out!

Not worth it for what it was. Whoever does their marketing on social media is incredible though becuase it really had us fooled thinking it was going to be this big and grand spectable. Give that person a promotion but also, I wouldn't be surpised if next year, less people go. It's kind of like when people take a photo with the 0.5 lens, and it looks massive, but then you see it in person and feel decieved? yep thats what it was. Were the lights cool? Yes, fun and whimsical lights. However it is just 1 maze. One maze that gets completed in 20 mins if you don't stop for photos. To enter the parking lot took us longer than to walk the entire venue. Food and drinks, mediocre and expensive. Hot chocolate that tasted more like water. Small bowl of Mac and cheese for $20. It was def over sold. This place would only be worth it if it cost $20 because you are done so quickly. Not worth it. We were unimpressed. Reviews are accurate.

My son and his wife came to visit for Thanksgiving weekend so we took them to Enchant to kick off the holiday season - unfortunately we were very disappointed with our experience and would definitely not consider ever doing this event again or recommending it to anyone. Crowds are massive and unruly, parking is an absolute nightmare, and the ticket prices are outrageous - as well as the food and drink and other experiences- totally exorbitant and unjustified. I kept seeing elaborate ads for Enchant LA while I was exploring holiday activities while the kids were visiting. The ads claim Enchant LA has the largest Christmas lights maze in the world and really made the whole experience look spectacular - so I figured we'd give it a shot. The maze does seem somewhat large but I have a hard time believing it's the largest in the world. And they didn't make any efforts to hide the fact that it's basically a bunch of standard Christmas lights wrapped around chain link fence over fake ivy in a parking lot. For the exorbitant price of the tickets, they could've at least laid down some astroturf to hide the parking lines and asphalt lol. Another thing I didn't like was that all the food/drink "huts" and market stalls were very poorly constructed - they just threw up some plywood and bland signage that all just looks tacky and cheap. I'm giving an extra star bc they have a puzzle to solve in the maze that we did enjoy playing for a bit before the unruly crowds wore us down. The premise is that Santa's timepiece is broken and you have to find 8 stars to fix it. The staff hand out scratch cards that you scratch off along the way when you find a star. The reward for finding the stars is you get to write down your Christmas wish and put it in one of the mailboxes at the end - presumably to mail to Santa but it's unclear lol. Still a bit of fun to be had if you can fight through the horde. And there are some very pretty light displays that make for nice family photo-ops - BUT you have to wait in long lines, people are pushing and cutting in line, and are just plain rude. And you have to make sure to point your camera up enough to cut out the parking lot paint lol - It's just not worth it. Tickets are easy to buy online and require timed entry - we bought it for Friday night at 530pm entry slot. But the entry times are not enforced whatsoever. Crowds are massive and make it unpleasant. The Ferris wheel, ice skating, s'mores "pit", and "snow slide" are all extra costs - and again, the prices are ridiculous for what it is. In the ads, the slide and Ferris wheel look huge but in reality they're tiny and poorly constructed. The ice skating "rink" is actually a long winding trail so that looked interesting at least. All the staff we encountered were warm and friendly - but almost all of them were extremely young and had no idea what was going on when there were issues - and happily told us so too lol. Especially in terms of the parking fiasco. It took us an hour to get parked! It's absolute mayhem. Cars are circling around and cutting each other off at turns, everyone is angry and honking - a terrible start to the experience. There are staff trying to direct the traffic but they're lazy and mostly just standing there waving wands in no recognizable direction. Pretty much just a free-for-all. You really need more leadership and effective management for crowds of this magnitude. When you purchase tickets, you have the option to add on parking for a fee but I didn't. We arrived expecting to pay around $10 for general parking but they didn't charge us bc of the chaos I guess? Or maybe they didn't know? I asked the parking staff and he said he "had no idea what to do" in terms of paying and where to park etc - he just told us to move on a find a spot LOL!! Also - they charge you a "service fee" of $4 when you book online. Our 4 tickets were $164 - but they offer a "friends pack" of 4 tickets for a small discount so we ended up paying $143 for this mess of an event lol. This experience is grossly mismanaged, feels very poorly thrown together, the ads are totally misleading, and it really seems like a huge money grab. There are so many other Christmas light venues in the area that are far superior. I cannot recommend this experience. Never again!

    So much fun!

Checked out Enchant back on 12/3. We were had some issues with booking as the time slot we wanted for their 7pm wouldn't let me purchase the tickets. We ended up booking for their 5pm time slot instead. The tickets are not cheap but 12/3 was one of their cheaper days and they also allowed dogs! You just need to make sure to put their vaccination information in the waiver before your visit. They charge $20 per dog on top of your admission ticket. We also paid for their premium parking to be closer to the entrance. It cost us well over $200 for our group of 5 with a dog. Upon arrival, we found parking right at the entrance. There were already photo ops in the front of the entrance. Check-in was very easy. Our party made it into the venue within 5 minutes. Our pug had the best time walking the red carpet into the Christmas market. There were so many dogs everywhere dressed in their Christmas outfit too. We loved the maze. So many gorgeous photo ops at every corner. We got all of the photos we wanted before the venue got crowded. Definitely recommend arriving early. We spent well over an hour in the maze. Overall, the venue was fun but definitely a one and done event. It was a fun family experience but way too pricey for what they offer. We also picked up their hot chocolates to try. It was $9 - $12 for a small cup! It was waaay too sweet and quite gimmicky. We skipped the ice skating as we were exhausted from walking through the maze. Nonetheless, we love that our pug got to have the best time here and he now LOVES Christmas lights thanks to Enchant!

BIG YIKES. I got a natty discount via my wagie shackles, but I cannot imagine a normie family going here and having to stomach the costs straight up. Even with the slight group discount, it's a HUGE waste of money for what it is. Depending on what night you're going, you're looking at around ~$40 per person, with $10 parking since unless you're ridesharing they're no real way you can just walk in from the mall side unless you're hopping the fence or braving getting hit by the crazy cars trying to get in or escape. They scan your QR code to get in for parking and to get into the venue and everything else is priced on add ons. Again, if you're planning to stay here for awhile and you want to imbibe in foods and drink, you're like looking at $10+ for each drink, and around $15 for food item. It was around $9 for a cup of "European" salted caramel hot chocolate which was at most 4 gulps, $16 for 6 beignets that are like the size of Totino's pizza rolls, and $16 for a truffle aioli bratwurst on a bun with some steamed peppers and onions (a messy 4 bites). Also, if you are unfortunately taking children here, I think, unless they're iPad addicted (a different kind of evil), they're going to want to go onto the ferris wheel (tiny and creaking), go inner tubing down the slide, go ice skating (saw a woman hit her head), etc. it's going to cost you extra and it's not like you can yeet a very young child there yourself so I guess you're paying for yourself too. The lines were ABSOLUTELY fisted for all these activities. If you, your party, or any children have been afflicted with instant gratification, you're in hell my friend. I have to also comment on the gross poorly planned layout of the venue. Certain areas you go to lead to a dead end and then you have to loop back out causing lots of bottlenecks in the crowds. At one of the dead ends was a mini golf set with some small light set ups. Man, can't imagine paying for your kid to play mini golf and you have all these ignoramuses walking all over the course. RIP. Then the actual light display leads into a forced labryinth with an arbitrary storyline of finding the stars to save Xmas. You can scratch the scavenger hunt and then mail the letter to Santa, but there's no pens provided to even mail out the letters at the end. Like an idea was there, but it was so poorly executed. PRO-TIP: Take off your glasses if you have astigmatism since this made it look pretty cool and magical to me. Other than that, I'd hella skip this.

Alright... So who hasn't seen these ads all over social media? Well they got me! I love doing all these kinds of experiences and despite it being a far drive Took me almost 2hrs since I went during the week Not recommended lol But it's located parking in the parking lot of where the amc theater and Dave busters is at behind the race track I arrived just after 8 after having 730 time entrance I recommend getting the earliest time ... you'll see why soon Anyways got in super quick as everyone had already arrived so it was pretty busy The lights are all very beautiful and magical for sure But man I wish the place didn't close down at 930 Which meant I only had 1.5hrs if that hence arrive early because if you want to take photo opps you need the time as there are lines and lines at the bars etc They have a night market which is fun to try to recreate those European Xmas markets with vendors The hot chocolate which came in European which was supposed to be thicker was not and even the lady selling it to us was like yeah it's not really thick at all They have a maze as their main thing you walk around and you get this scavenger type card you supposedly use for finding all the "stars" but even if you do you don't get something for finding them lol so it's honestly pointless to do it just enjoy it There's a small Ferris wheel and some tube slides and mini golf Didn't get time to do any of that but hey it's good to see stuff to do The toilets were porta potties or at least what I used You. Definitely need hours here and as beautiful as it is the amount of folks is a lot so it's hard to sort of enjoy it at times but it's fun for the family. To take kids and if you live close do it

I really do miss live shows and getting a chance to get that feeling of happiness when you go to…read moreshows with friends, listen to great live music, and make memories. With the pandemic still very much so at large, we are very limited to these types of experiences, but Insomniac was able to pull this off, while still keeping everyone safe. The only downfall (and quite big IMO), was the wait time to enter the first weekend. We waited over an hour to enter GA, and eventually was asked if we wanted to upgrade to VIP for $50. I wish we were asked this in the beginning, but I wonder if they've been able to fix this problem since then. Also, if anyone has attended this and knows the link to the official playlist on Spotify, please send it my way! I'd love to bookmark this entire playlist to listen in my car.

Tickets are $69.99 during the week, $89.99 Fridays and Saturdays, $79.99 on Sundays. An additional…read more$59.95 to upgrade to VIP (up to 8 people per car) and another $20.00 for the service fee. Yeah, it adds up and it doesn't seem worth it, but if there's 8 of you in the car and split the tab, it isn't too bad. We came through on a Friday night. We opted for the VIP package and bypassed pretty much everyone (that line looked like a thousand miles long, so that alone threw all regrets, doubts and second thoughts out the window!) Bypassing the long line was one thing, but then my passengers' bladders decided to go in sync and in unison all needed a bathroom break BEFORE the drive. The VIP package came in handy once again - they have a separate set of porta-potties for VIP peeps, too! Needless to say, there were no lines there either. So, yeah, off to a good start. I didn't really know what to expect, so I decided not to expect too much. There were a lot of mixed reviews on Yelp (complaints were mostly about the cost) so I kept an open mind. THE VERDICT: Totally WORTH IT. This whole production was well put-together. It was beautifully created with a lot of imagination. The engineering and construction alone were astonishing, how long did it take them to put it all up! And I really liked that they coordinated all the lights' movements with the music coming off the assigned radio station (107.9.) And those souls braving the cold as they entertained us with their dance moves... KUDOS! (I didn't get to see what's in the VIP box but going by how each of my passengers went through it like the Tasmanian Devil, I'm gonna assume whatever was in there was fun!) If this is your thing, here are a few tips: 1) Entry is at Holly and Huntington NOT at the main entrance. If you do end up at the main entrance, they'll reroute you. No worries. 2) You can come through as early as 30 minutes before your scheduled time, but try to be there within that window just for the sake of being considerate. The whole thing is about 45 minutes to an hour, all depending on how slow or fast you go. 3) CLEAN YOUR WINDSHIELDS! I meant to, but I completely forgot. But even with the semi-dirty glass, it was still pretty good. 4) Sunroofs are great! I didn't have one (wouldn't have mattered if I did since I was the one behind the wheel) but I was sorta jealous of the peeps who made full use of it. I imagine that's the best way to experience it. 5) You are allowed to open your windows. Just watch out for fog machines... 6) Take your time and let it all sink in. If you can afford it, I highly recommend it, something cool to do social distancing style. It's an event for all ages and a great excuse to get out of the house more especially during these challenging times.

Finally, this year, everything fell into place and at 5 pm on Sunday, with my pre-bought ticket in hand (you save $10 not buying at the door!), I was ready to taste and drink my way through the main street on Monrovia on Myrtle Ave with the over 50+ vendors from Monrovia and the surrounding areas. The entire street of Myrtle is blocked off from Lime to Colorado. Upon check-in (and checking your ID to make sure you're over 21), you're handed a reusable tote bag with a wine glass and reusable food tray (with handy slot to house your wine glass). The tote bag is great in holding coupons and menus and business cards handed out by the various vendors. Some vendors have storefronts right here on Myrtle while others are in nearby cities (like Duarte, Azusa or Pasadena) or can provide catering and private orders! You definitely will not go home hungry! A tip learned from this trip is that it may be worthwhile to do a walk through first to see what's out there and pick what piques your interest. Otherwise you'll be full before you hit the halfway point! Plenty of food and availability to go back for seconds on your favorites! The lines were very reasonable, with the max being maybe 4 people ahead of you in line. The BF and I tried plenty of sweets (cupcakes, bundt cakes, ice cream!), BBQ foods, Mexican food, comfort food, and so much more! Plenty of alcohol flowing here too! I love that everything is included in the ticket price so you don't even have to bring your wallet if you don't plan to bar hop afterwards! Other than the food, there's a live band (Time Bomb) providing some great tunes through out the night, in front of an area set up for dancing to work off the food. A photo booth was nearby as well to capture your picture pre or post food coma. I have to give major props to the Kiwanis Club of Monrovia for such a well run event. Tickets could be purchased online (with a small convenience fee) or at a couple of different Monrovia merchants in person (cash or check only). The day of the event, checking in ran super smooth and the Kiwanians were all over the event -- making sure trash cans weren't overflowing, providing bottled water at their booths, and making sure everyone was having a great time! If I wasn't already a member of another Kiwanis club, this event would motivate me to join their club! And of course, the proceeds of the tickets all go towards benefiting the youth programs they organize in the community. What a win-win situation -- the kids supported by Kiwanis wins and my tummy wins in trying out so much variety of food! Of course, I have to comment that I had no problems finding parking as well. There are plenty of street parking and spots at the various free public parking lots next to Myrtle Avenue. Just turn on one of the side streets one or two blocks before you hit Line or Colorado to avoid the buildup of traffic from the blocked off streets. As I was heading out, stuffed to the brim at 7:30 pm, I saw a sign saving the date for the event next year - October 15, 2017. You can bet it will be on my calendar and it should be on yours too, especially for any first timers!

In addition to doing a little holiday shopping I specifically came here to see my girl, fellow fabulous YE, Hannah S. When I arrived, the festivities were in full swing. There were two stages set up - one on each end. The front stage featured performers from the local school. I was impressed with their musical talents. The young girl that was singing had a great voice. A local band was playing at the other stage a few blocks down. I took my time strolling through the vendor booths while looking for Hannah. I finally spotted her festive booth - The Curio Cat. Hannah looked adorable in her Santa Cowboy Hat. I immediately gave her a great big hug! I just love her energy and her amazing smile. The Curio Cat is a student research academy dedicated to helping children expand their knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, & Computer Science through research & development. Almost all the booths are decorated out for Christmas and all are local vendors so it's a great place to support the area community while Christmas shopping. Not only do they have tons of vendors, but they also have so many fun activities- especially for the kiddos! They have a little parade led by Arcadia's beloved mascot Perdy the Peacock with the local high school band too. They have tons of lawn games like bean bag toss and a large play area. There's live music on both ends of the fair and tons of food trucks! And they even had a big snow machine!! It was so fun to play in the "snow" in SoCal haha! And the kids absolutely loved it! We tried the Chicken Satay burrito from the ThaiMexCocina truck and the Pulled Pork fries from the Locke Down BBQ truck and everything was fantastic! A lot of the trucks were giving out samples too - all were excellent! The fair takes place on a Saturday in early December from 10am-4pm. Parking is street parking or in the local garages that are within reasonable walking distance. Attendance is free so it's definitely worth a visit! I've also participated in this fair as a vendor and the city of Arcadia does a great job for the customers AND vendors! It's very organized and well laid out. We're definitely planning on participating next year and doing our Christmas shopping here again.

I decided to go Friday evening after work which ended up having slightly less scheduled events. However, the benefit was that there were lesser crowds, and the cool, end of summer breeze around the perimeter of the church was just the right temperature. The big draw for me was definitely the food. Specifically, I had a craving for moussaka. As luck would have it, by the time it was my turn in line the moussaka was almost out, so I was lucky to have one of the last pieces. Although the dish was only slightly warm, the taste was undeniably fresh and satisfying. My colleague and I talked about dishes to check out, and he raved about how delicious the roasted leg of lamb dish was. He also mentioned that the dance competition can be pretty entertaining. The group that was up that evening ranged from adolescents to the elderly, and it was clear early on the spirited elderly folks had both the charm and technique down to win it all. "Opa!!!" the audience would cheer them on. The surrounding area included vendors for jewelry, artwork, and even an AARP booth for ax-throwing. Decently sized festival and friendly folks around.

The large dance floor means people of all ages joined in the group dances, creating a joyful atmosphere that was contagious! There is souvlaki that draws you in and the indoor hall where they serve plated meals. My favorite part of this enchanting event had to be the lovely grandmas who brought their energy and warmth to serve up their baked desserts, with a side of heartfelt smiles. We love the experience, and what this festival represents!

The rescue that I foster with…read more(PupCulture Rescue) was having a tent at the festival and so I drove up to Sierra Madre for the event. I learned that the Wisteria Festival happens once a year and it is centered around the largest Wisteria plant in the world, and if I'm correct this Wisteria is also in the Guinness Book of World Records as being the largest blooming plant in the world, unfortunately they can't predict so far ahead of time when the plant will bloom, so each year they apparently try to schedule the festival when they think it will bloom, but this year due to the weather being so hot the plant prematurely bloomed last month. The festival is massive, with a couple of blocks or more that are blocked off and so many tents to stop by and visit. PupCulture Rescue had one tent towards the middle which was great with allot of foot traffic. I sat with the rescue and my foster Drew (check my photos, he's a very sweet Bone Face Shar Pei and still looking for his forever home) for a few hours and then I left him there with the group so that I could explore with my friends for a bit. There were so many tents with beautiful pottery, or food/coffee/drinks, and other goodies to look at. My friends and I found the bus that would take us to the famous Wisteria Plant, it's $15 / person to ride the bus up the hill to the house. Once at the house a guide gives a brief history of the plant, and it's amazing that back when it was first planted it was only 75 cents. Now it's really this massive giant. Too bad the blooms were already gone, but despite this you will still be in awe of its massive size. I can only imagine how gorgeous it must be when it's in bloom. I think one thing they should do at the bottom of the hill before you buy tickets is let you know if it's not in bloom so you can decide at that time if you still want to go. I saw many people express severe disappointment when they realized there were no blooms, however I had heard randomly from someone before going that the blooms were gone so I came with that knowledge already and wasn't disappointed since I already knew. You can either take the bus back down the hill or for a short walk downhill you can stop by the two churches that are on the way back to the festival. Both churches are rich in architecture and beautiful landscape. Until next year!

It was a…read morebucket list trip for my mom, and while my boys had a great time, the travel was complicated and arduous, mostly because of my wild three-year-old Wade B. A couple weeks later, my husband and I took the boys to the Enchanted Forest of Light at Descanso Gardens. They had an absolute blast, and my five-year-old Leo B. declared, with utmost sincerity, "I think this is the nicest place I've ever been." Matt B. and I had been once before, almost a decade ago, with our friends Caroline Y. and Scott S., when we were all young and childless. We came back together, this time with five kids, and as much as I enjoyed it back in the day, I found it even more compelling this second time around. The magic was amplified ten times by the presence of my sons, who absolutely loved all the beautiful, colorful lights. I did buy them shitty Christmas light necklaces, one of which broke almost immediately, causing considerable strife. The alternative, of course, was to deny Wade his request before even entering the garden, where he would badger me every time he saw another child with the necklace. I was not surprised to see that most of the children seemed to have them, every parent having made the same calculation on their way in. Smart and evil of Descanso Gardens to put that vendor right by the entrance. I'm guessing Enchanted is their big revenue generator for the year, and this is a McKinseyish way to maximize. The kids oohed and aahed at every exhibit, marveling at all the colors and lights. We oohed and aahed right with them, and had the additional pleasure of watching them play and interact with the elaborate, immersive displays. They loved the tulip fields, the model trains, the stained glass houses, the trees and music and light. There was also a large platform that served as a dance floor for small children, who partied to the ambient music. Wade was especially taken with this stage, and the one part of the night that did not go well was when I yanked him away so we could see the rest of the installations. It was cold and the kids were up way past their bedtimes, but we all had a blast at the Enchanted Forest. When pressed, Leo admitted that Paris was in fact as nice as Descanso Gardens, but the point was made. Come Christmas, we can take the boys to France or we can just drive to La Cañada and buy a few tickets that support a wonderful botanical garden. We might even manage the latter every year.

Wow! What an unexpectedly cool experience!…read more Pro tips: 1. Bring whatever you like to keep you very warm in weather that seems cool normally but in the woods is icy cold. It was 51 and according to the weather app felt like 47 but I'm here to tell you it was COLD COLD more like 32 imho and head, hands, neck and feet coverage is a must so you can enjoy it. Suggest a warm beanie, gloves, and a down type jacket. Definitely jeans or long pants. I grabbed a blanket from my car to wear! 2. It's an easy walk, but for those with wheelchairs or canes or walkers it can be bumpy and some areas are a bit tricky. Also given all the rain, it can be dirty dusty muddy so wear shoes you don't care about. 3. Bring your best camera bc the photo ops both with people and without are plentiful. Make sure everything is charged as there's no common area to charge things easily. I'm sure you can try the restaurant or store in case of emergencies. Or go back to your car. 4. Be prepared to walk a very slow mile. Lots to see and photograph. Took me about 1:15 and I took my time. You can definitely do this much faster if solo and not easily amused or maybe not big on pics. And you can take a lot longer if you like detail and creativity amidst a natural space. 5. It's dark despite tons of lighting so be wise when walking. 6. Parking is free and easy. Just follow the signs or people. There is a walk to the line from the car. Lots of walking in general. 7. Our park reservations were for 6pm. I arrived around 6:10 and the line took about 20 mins. Was done by 7:40. 8. Cute shopping at the beginning before entering an next to the line to get in. It is an outdoor nursery type shop and two small indoor Knick knack type stores. Prices are typical tourist type prices. Also next to it is a coffee and pastry stand but you have to go first and then get in line or get out of line if you have people to hold your place as there's a line to get goodies. 9. Farmhouse is a restaurant on site. Checkout their Yelp. Make reservations as they book up fast. Good for groups. Food imo is average. Standouts were the beet salad, French fries, short rib appetizer, salmon and halibut. They use minimal seasoning at this place so if your health requires less sodium you're good! Get the pan fried crispy skin salmon lol. 10. If you're trying to cut costs there's an El Pollo Loco right as you exit the freeway coming here and before going up the hill to the park. 11. Great holiday thing to do with a large group. Entertainment for most everyone. If you're an outdoorsy, artsy, creative loving, enjoy exercise and family time type, this will be right up your alley!

But once we were in, the other lanterns were just ok. It was fun to read the descriptions for the zodiac animals but there wasn't much more to the event. Vendors really took advantage of customers by jacking up prices as well. Tang hu Lu dessert was served warm wth! Yuck. Layout was weird and random. Maybe if they put all the lanterns in one area it would be easier to take photos. More game vendors to feel like an Asian night market would be great next time. The next day I had to make a return/exchange with one of the vendors and the registration people were nice enough to let me pass after showing them my ticket from the previous day! Also do NOT pay for parking, it is completely free. I have no idea how people are paying for parking because you can just drive up for free, but I guess it's the people ordering their tickets online not via Fantuan. Before I jump into this review, I gotta say first that I am not Chinese and I had no idea what was going on most of the time when I was there and most of the staff will speak to you in Chinese. The entire check in process was done in Mandarin when I understood none of it and lots of signs are only in Chinese, but that's not to say that some will try to speak to you in English and that there are vendors who are not Chinese there. As many other reviews have said, it's not the biggest lantern expo out there and the lanterns are quite spaced out. There are some larger more impressive set ups, with some smaller ones interspersed between. There are 2 medium sized Christmas themed "lantern displays", 2 larger Halloween ones, a Dia de Los Muertos one, and some "lantern walkways" with some varying designs for you to take photos of. There are some medium sized Chinese cultural lantern displays including one of a phoenix and a tiger, but the eye-catching ones are definitely that blinking lady who looks like she's from Genshin Impact and the walkway in. As for the smaller ones, there's one of all the Chinese Zodiac animals. For other entertainment, there's carnival games and such (but they were mostly dead), a live stage for performances by the community, some kiddy rides (think those little animal cars at the mall), some shopping vendors (I really liked the cat rescue with an actual rescue cat relaxing there), and some food vendors. They were giving away free plushie straps of your Chinese Zodiac animals so everyone in my family got one, which is a really nice way to teach people about the culture. There was also sugar art of animals, which is really intricate and neat to look at. I think aside from the "limited" number of lanterns since based on ads you would definitely expect a bit more, I was largely disappointed in the lack of variety for vendors. Many of the vendors are from businesses I generally see at the 626 Night Market or at anime cons or are just tanghulu and skewers. I could have sworn I saw other Yelpers and ads on social media for food vendors with more variety, such as kawaii baos and one that specializes in Thai tea, but they were nowhere to be seen. I think also since the day before it rained and the fact that the even started an hour later on the Sunday that I went, lots of the vendors dipped making the event much emptier than I think it was intended to be. I think another thing that was a bit of an issue was the lack of lights (and I'm not talking about the lanterns). Unless you were closer to the festival, there were NO lights in the parking lot making it a bit of a hazard at worse, and an annoyance to find your car at the very least. There were also NO lights where the port-a-potties were and my dad said he almost dropped his phone inside (thank god he didn't), so those were some issues with the event. For each entry ticket, you did get a set box of 2 hot sauces which I'm excited to try out later. If you have the time to kill and can get the discounted tickets and don't mind splurging a bit for food, it's a good way to spend a couple hours, but it's not something I super recommend in the area.
