We did family…read morewaivers ahead of time and my wife had to do hers separate because she couldn't be added to family waiver because only one person over 18 on it. That caused a bit of confusion but we worked it out. But the cost for our family of five wasn't bad at all. We have a 5 yr, 9yr and 11yr old and had a blast! There were about five or six climbs that they all could do attached to the rope so they could belay down. Then there were some free fall climb areas that they also thought was fun. Then when my oldest was done climbing, we played some ping pong and he played the piano that they have there. So we easily spent a couple of hours there and will definitely be back! They also have an enclosed kids area for parties that looked cute. Highly recommend for some safe family fun!

After being at Crux for so long, it has stood out as having one of the most authentic communities in the city. I have built lifelong friends through the various fitness and yoga classes offered here and I think it's arguably one of the biggest bang-for-the-buck memberships around considering it includes climbing, open gym(s), multiple locations, and top-notch fitness and yoga classes. The gym has also started scheduling unique fitness and lifestyle workshops on the weekend and I've found these to be expansive to my overall fitness and health journey. (+ shoutout to Audrey, the fitness class coordinator, she's the best!)

I took a class out at Milton Reimers Ranch (beautiful) and had the best time! Randy taught me the language of "on-belay", as well as taught me the knot tying and even to belay him while he went up to set a rope. Such an incredible experience! It is definitely challenging, both mentally and physically. It was such an adventure and since it was just myself in the "class" he let me advance to the levels I was comfortable at. I doubt there is a better guide out there that knows how to have as much fun as Randy, while always keeping safety first.

Learn to lead Sport & Learn to lead Trad were both great courses that helped me gain confidence while doing so safely. Having completed these two courses, it has opened up SO MUCH climbing ability in the US and abroad. I feel confident and competent. It is great to learn from a qualified guide, like Randy, so I can help get more friends into the sport and have confidence that I am passing down correct and safe practices to them. Randy is a great guide with tons of experience and all the certifications that make a new comer feel confident in their instructor. A perfect mixture of teacher, mentor, story teller, and someone who will help you push your limits (if that is what you want). I will continue to use Austin Ascents to build upon my Rock Climbing knowledge and look forward to completing more courses. Next up, Multi-pitch climbing!

Since I'm also afraid of heights, ropes courses are a good way to get a dose of this. The Georgetown Challenge Course is designed for team-building exercises, so you can't just go by yourself and have fun, unfortunately. But it's a great place to go for corporate, club or team events. I went in February with about 15 people from Hill Country Outdoors, an outdoors, sports and social club. We started the morning doing some silly but surprisingly fun games on the ground. Then, we got to the good stuff. There's a large number of activities that you can do here, from climbing up a pole to crossing high wires or logs... there's actually more than you can do in a day (you talk over the activities when you book, but can change them during the day). All are safe, as you are belayed, but also scary, since they're up high. I think I had fun, as I'd go back, but whenever I do these things I'm always asking myself why I thought it was a good idea, it's never fun until it's over. The downside to this place is that you are actively belayed, it's not like the Cypress Canopy challenge course where you're always hooked in and can do stuff yourself. That's also a plus if you're actually doing a team-building exercise, of course. None of the activities require you to be in super shape... if you can climb a ladder, you can do pretty much anything here. Though you may not really want to ;) If you're looking for something different to do, get a group together and try this place!

Effectiveness, success, and genuine enjoyment within this context will only occur when each individual learns to apply their skills and talents to the team as a whole. The question we are then faced with is "How and where do we learn to think and act with the group in mind?" The goal of the Georgetown Challenge Course is to facilitate your team's discovery of the answer. Nestled among the trees lining the North San Gabriel River, the course consists of many low team elements, 22 new and exciting high elements, and two climbing walls. Our course is open year round to accommodate your team building needs, special event, or corporate training schedule. We can also provide special skill workshops including rock climbing or rappelling.

I saw this company on Groupon. The promotion was for a "six-hour rock-climbing tour for two" for…read more$99, and it was listed as 60% off a value of $250. Before purchasing, I checked the company website to see what kind of tour they offered. The website lists a PRIVATE tour for two for $125 per person. Which is $250 for two. And 60% off that is $100. (I also checked Yelp, btw, before buying, and the company wasn't listed...which is why I'm doing my due-diligence and posting this.) So I obviously assumed that's what we were getting--a private tour--and bought the Groupon. When I got a confirmation email for our upcoming reservation, I noticed that it was sent to multiple recipients. I responded to confirm that we were going to be getting a private tour, and was told that we were scheduled in a group of 12. I never would have purchased it if I had an indication it was a large group, because we are experienced climbers looking for individualized instruction. When I emailed my frustration, asking them what they could do to help fix the situation, they replied that I was the first person to ever think it was a private tour. Fine, but that's clearly because I was the first person to dig through their website to compare the deal; do that, and the conclusion that it's a private tour is a no-brainer. They suggested I contact Groupon for a refund, which I'm doing, and offered me a long-shot on possibly scheduling a future date with a more experienced group. I rarely take time to post negative reviews, figuring that most complaints are the result of personal preference. But I feel really misled by this company. I think they're using Groupon to offer a service not listed on their website--a $50 per person large-group tour--and misrepresenting the value of it in Groupon's advertising. If you want to go with them, make sure you know what you're getting.
