Great gym, organized and professional employees. First time is free of charge, they don't let children run amuck. Very pleasant experience.

Took an awesome tour, fitness class with Tatiana, and climbed some lead routes. Cool climbing facility!

Also, I would say most of the climbs--even the "sloth" rated ones--are a little more challenging that I'm used to (both for belay and bouldering).

We got a day pass for $28 each and since it was our first time we got free rental shoes. I didn't have time to check out the sauna, but it is included in the pass and I peaked inside and it was very nice. They also have a full gym and classes that are all included in your pass! We only spent 30 minutes there then went next door for food and coffee, but I went back after and some people were there for hours! I think the enjoyment level here depends on what you want to experience.

At the beginning of the school year we came every Saturday, but as schools gotten busier we havent been coming so frequently. It is the most affordable bouldering place ive ever been, they provide bandaids when you get scraped, have very attentive service, inclusive staff and events, and very kindly use sustainable paper towels at the handwashing station with high-quality lotion available after. They always provide chalk and shoes and I think the routes are super fun and also inclusive! I also like having the opportunity to use the other gym amenities with the daytime pass, and it is all kept very clean. One time I came in with a sprained ankle and used two punches because I thought my ankle wouldnt get in the way too much, but after a few minutes I realized it would and I didnt want to stay. They refunded my punches so now I have them for another time! I love this place and have brought almost everyone I know here with me. I would definitely recommend it.

For me the answer to this quandary is rock climbing as it is an affordable way to stay in tip-top shape and each experience you have when climbing is unique. Moreover, rock climbing provides a full-body work-out. It helps to build lean muscle mass across the entire body, including forearms, biceps, shoulders, back, core, glutes, quads, hamstrings, and calves. The Mesa Rim Austin affords those who are seeking it an opportunity to get in shape, challenge themselves mentally and physically and get customized lessons for those who are just starting out. What's more is that this location also has general work-out equipment like ellipticals, stationary bicycles, free weights and treadmills. For the price of a monthly membership of $25.00, you can climb and have access to rock walls and gear as well as work out equipment and a dry sauna (that's a steal). The staff here is helpful and offers training for those new to rock climbing and provides guidance when you get 'stuck' and/or are unsure of how to maneuver. The facility is always clean and uncluttered with debris and has plenty of room for large groups of people so you won't feel claustrophobic when here. In coming here, I have also gained a new community as this location has a tight-knit community, making it easy to meet new people, find climbing partners, and form new friendships. If you can swing it and add rock climbing to at least 2 days per week to your health regimen, you won't regret it. #bewellcentraltexas

I will say that the front desk staff usually seems very busy, and compared to another climbing gym we frequent, we didn't feel super welcome (might have been because we came with a Groupon?). On our first visit, I had to ask where everything was -- there was no orientation or offer to show us around. I noticed that others were getting orientations, so this might be hit or miss. The bouldering space itself is quite spacious and has lots of different levels of challenge suitable for both kids and adults. There was lots of padding, and I really like the central "rock" island where you can actually climb on top of it. I would say I feel a little intimidated to visit for more than the bouldering, given the fact that the staff doesn't seem overly welcoming and friendly.

Since I'm also afraid of heights, ropes courses are a good way to get a dose of this. The Georgetown Challenge Course is designed for team-building exercises, so you can't just go by yourself and have fun, unfortunately. But it's a great place to go for corporate, club or team events. I went in February with about 15 people from Hill Country Outdoors, an outdoors, sports and social club. We started the morning doing some silly but surprisingly fun games on the ground. Then, we got to the good stuff. There's a large number of activities that you can do here, from climbing up a pole to crossing high wires or logs... there's actually more than you can do in a day (you talk over the activities when you book, but can change them during the day). All are safe, as you are belayed, but also scary, since they're up high. I think I had fun, as I'd go back, but whenever I do these things I'm always asking myself why I thought it was a good idea, it's never fun until it's over. The downside to this place is that you are actively belayed, it's not like the Cypress Canopy challenge course where you're always hooked in and can do stuff yourself. That's also a plus if you're actually doing a team-building exercise, of course. None of the activities require you to be in super shape... if you can climb a ladder, you can do pretty much anything here. Though you may not really want to ;) If you're looking for something different to do, get a group together and try this place!
