I've never been so stunned and uncomfortable at a salon. During my dye treatment, the owner had a full-blown meltdown--right in the chair with dye in my hair. I had to leave mid-process because it was that chaotic and unprofessional. The only person who actually saved the day was the manager, Toby. He called me back immediately, arranged someone on call to finish my hair, and was incredibly kind and responsible. Without Toby, I'd have been left hanging--hair half done and totally embarrassed. But no matter how great Toby is, the owner is the face of this place. As long as they're running JW Goodsons Salon, I won't be going back. Avoid unless there's new ownership. read more

I can be a nightmare for some stylists as I have very thick hair but she is so patient and very helpful in helping me figure out what it is I want to do with my hair.. highlights? Shorter bangs? I generally have my BFF do my hair but when I don't, I come here and see the wonderful & magical Mr.Lee. This is a full service salon. I have even had my make up done here and they did a wonderful job (Not by Mr. Lee). Located off of Broadway this lovely place has a private parking lot, so no worries about searching for parking in this congested part of town. Plenty of other hair dressers here, and they all seem to do a lovely job and are all super friendly. So if you are looking for your new go to spot, I highly recommend JW Goodsons. read more

You need a mani/pedi? Get them done at this lovely salon by Kamei! She is an excellent manicurist. I get compliments on my nails all the time! My nails have never been so healthy and strong. She doesn't use harsh chemicals on your nails, which always seemed counter-productive to me when I got my gel manis done by previous nail techs. Kamei is down-to-earth and a pleasure to talk to while I'm getting pampered. I highly recommend Kamei. read more

Love this place! My mom and I went to see Kamie for gel manicures and she is the best!!! She is great with nail art, gel color- she has cutest gel colors and are very creamy, and she takes care your natural nails. She's really passionate about she does and takes her time doing it!!! The salon overall is super clean, organized, and the staff is really nice. Everything she uses is clean, do not damage your natural nail, and it does not smell like your typical nail shop. This review is ONLY for Johanna. I had Johanna do my hair and make up for my wedding and was more than satisfied! She also did my niece's hair (our flower girl). Now, because our wedding is special and private, I will not post pictures of myself or my niece, but I'll explain and add pictures of other clients Johanna has done hair for (faces are covered for their privacy as well and I got them from IG). I got hair extensions that were very secure, not heavy, and well done! My hair was made into a side ponytail with small swirls that were rose-like swirls on the back going to the side and finally curling the rest of the ponytail which was full of volume. Our niece had a very nice and unique braid-bun with a a beautiful flower crown around her head. My make-up was on point and very natural because I wanted it that way. I also got eye lashes that were perfect (not too long/short). Not once did I feel like my hair was too much and I came out gorgeous (along with my hubby, of course!) on all our pics. People gave me great compliments on my hair and make-up throughout the night, too. I highly recommend you see Johanna for all your hair and make-up needs. I've seen her do all kinds of cuts and color throughout the years and have to say Johanna has that special touch and TALENT! She is very creative with her own hair as well. read more

The owner cut my hair and gave me a nice little history regarding salons on Broadway. The cut was 35 dollars and well worth it. Angelo 4 Hair....NOT ! I don't usually write up bad reviews, but I just had to warn those interested in visiting this salon. Nothing against the salon in particular, I was a customer 20 years ago when Lee Magallanes was there. But I do have issue with one self absorbed stylist who called me to threaten to charge me for a missed appointment upon my next visit. Here is the story. I saw this guy a year or so ago and would schedule most of my visits during the day around lunch time. I was relatively pleased with the results and I recommended him to my girlfriend. All was fine until my girlfriend said that on her last appointment with him, he decided to squeeze in someone before her and made her wait. Since she was there on her lunch break, she waited as long as she could until it was impossible for her to wait any longer without being extremely late coming back from her break to work. That coupled with his high price we decided to go elsewhere. Fast forward to last month April. I decided to try a new cut and thought I would give Mr Circo another shot...bygones and all. I booked the appointment for 4pm on a Friday at the end of Marchl, but as misfortune would have it, my Aunt passed away and I had to fly to Florida for a week, but planned to be back for my hair appointment. I returned on a Thursday nite after a gruelling day at the airport on standby ( I'll never do standby again! ) I missed the email alert completely while I was out of town consoling my cousins and father, but I did receive a text reminder on the day of the appointment. Unfortunately, I had decided to stay home that day which is 45 mins from Long Beach with no traffic. Rush hour on the 405 going N to Long Beach would be relentless with a good night's sleep, simply unfathomable on little sleep. So, I called and got Angelo's voice mail and left a message stating I wasn't going to be able to make the appointment. I eventually rescheduled for another appointment at the end of April. This time on a Thursday at 4:30pm. Now, I do admit, for this date, I knew it was coming up and it simply slipped my mind and a totally blew it and forgot. I apologized profusely when he called noticeably peeved at 4:52pm. That's when he went into this BS about how I stood him up twice and he's lost money and he's going to charge me for a missed appointment. I responded by saying I was sure I called to let him know I couldn't make the March appointment, but he insisted I called him after the appointment time. Come on! My last hairstylist, Shawna at Ibarra Salon in Arcadia was a master of double booking herself and she never once charged me for a missed appointment. And she was allot nicer, too. Angelo is a tad humorless. (I may look up Shawna after this). Yeah well, he not only lost me and my GF as customers....word of mouth can be the best or worst advertisement. Take my advice...DON'T GIVE THIS GUY YOUR BUSINESS! He's got weird hours, takes off for weeks on end, he's quirky and full of himself. REBUTTAL: What's misleading and unfair, Mr. Alan D of J.W. Goodson's, is that you know nothing about what transpired with Mr. Circo. It would have been much more gracious of you to post that you "assessed" my review, as you say, and discussed with your staff (period). Instead, you just look like you're covering for your stylist(s) when you take the "opportunity" to devalue customer yelp reviews. Remember, it wasn't about your salon, but you just made it so. read more

I'm shocked by Nina K.'s review of her haircut with Sky. I also am mixed very similarly and have curly hair that sometimes gets loose curls from straightening too much as well. I just walked in one day unscheduled and Sky took me even though the salon was closing soon. And your right she has an amazing personality but your wrong about her skills with curls. She totally understood how to handle my curls and communicated her plan to me upfront and the end result was exactly what I specifically asked for. My hair is full of super tight spiral curls and she treated my hair expertly. My Mother was a hairdresser for celebrities for years and I know how important it is to communicate with your hair dresser and ask questions if your confused with the process occurring. I always ask Sky about every part of my service but not because I don't trust her (because I trust her 200%) but because I love being a part of the process even if I am just sitting in the chair talking my life away. BOTTOM LINE: Sky is amazing with mixed and curly hair and I couldn't ask for a better stylist for my very difficult hair! Perhaps Nina K should of brought a picture to better explain what she wanted to see if it could be done and how because Sky would of done it amazingly no doubt! SKY Keep up the good work!
