I orginally wanted to get it done on my left ear, however after Rubi examed my ears recommended my right ear because it would look better with my ear shape and I apperciate a professional opinion. Came in to get my lobes re-pierced since I wanted a professional to handle it! Originally, I had my ears pierced when I was a toddler, but stopped wearing earrings over ten years ago which made me think they were closed. Booked appointment online, they have all the information there, and submitting the consent form will have them send you an email about healing and recovery. Very thorough and made me feel confident about the whole process. When I went in, the staff at register was very welcoming and friendly. Masks are required, but they had some disposable ones on the counter for you to take. They helped me pick out my jewelry and gave me recommendations on price range and sizes while also telling me that they sell earrings per piece, not by pair (the receipt will show backing, but the math is as they said ~$45 per earring). I picked out my earrings and got my ears handled by Lou! He actually told me that I may not need to have my lobes re-pierced because the holes could still be open. He stretched them out and put on my earrings for me. When I returned to the front desk, the cost was deducted because I didn't actually get my ears pierced. Apparently, this process of stretching out old piercing holes is called "recovery" which costed me $10 per lobe and was covered by the deposit I paid when booking the appointment. Overall, it was a good experience and I will be booking another appointment for ear piercings in the near future! read more

Decided on a whim to get my helix pierced on a Friday evening. I scheduled my appointment online and completed the required paperwork. Lou was my piercer and he did a great job at giving me the run down and aftercare instructions. He made it a comfortable environment and answered any questions I had. This location also has a lot of jewelry to choose from. They have beautiful solid gold options that are on the pricier side so I went with the standard titanium rhinestone and also purchased the saline spray from them. All in all just under $100. It's been 3 weeks and it's healing nicely - no pain, swelling, or redness. They offer/advise a 6 week follow-up appointment to check on the piercing and to change out the jewelry to a shorter post since most swelling should be gone by then. Wow. Just wow. First impression was a disaster. Lady immediately yelled at us to put masks on. I understand that covid has died down and masks are not mandated anymore, however this lady was very demonic in her demand on us wearing masks. I gave in to the BS and put on a dirty mask they had, dusty and made my nose stuffy. Regardless of the rudeness and mask manipulation, the customer service was non-existent, like she hated her job. I understand jobs can be stressful, but Jesus have some basic workplace skills! Super happy with my nose piercing ! Caitlin helped my daughter & I with picking out our jewelry & was so sweet. Didier is incredible. He was so great at making me feel so at ease that I really wasn't nervous at all. He was great at explaining placement & the angle of the piercing, & allowing me to know he's there to help me with the piercing experience. Breathing in through my nose & exhaling through my mouth, the piercing was done before the time I was done exhaling. I am sure many people get piercings often, so I hope anyone who's going in for their first or second piercing can read this & feel super comfortable here. Came in today to get my rook piercing and I love it! Lou was the one who did it and he did an awesome job. There was a girl at the front desk, didn't quite catch her name, but she was really easy to talk to and was friendly as well. The shop itself is really small, once you come in, there's a bench where you can sit down and the front desk is literally just a few steps in front. There is a big glass shelf to the right that is filled with all sorts of other jewelry. There is one room where the piercings are done and a bathroom down the hallway. I was pretty nervous coming in, but the process of getting my rook piercing was really quick and Lou did a great job of telling me what to do, what i'd feel, etc. The whole process took less than 5 minutes, it was very quick and it honestly wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. However, the jewelry was a bit expensive, but then again, I picked more of the nicer, floral-ly, rose gold ones so that's on me. For the exact cost, my total rook piercing, including the piercing fee came out to be a little over $170 (and this is not including the tip). Pretty expensive, but it was worth it! (: read more

me and my friend went in to get an ear piercing for me + follow up/check in for her nose piercing. We were 20 minutes early and the lady at the front desk was rude, did not greet us, was not helpful walking us through jewelry selection and immediately told us to wait outside yet there was no one inside. erika helped my friend with her nose piercing and instead of offering tips for treatment or solutions to what my friend had previously been trying, she was making her feel bad and almost stupid for not coming in sooner for a follow up. the only "solution" she provided was to get it re-pierced. lastly, when erika marked my piercing and told me to check it, it looked uneven. when i told her this, she told me she doesn't mark it by how they look straightforward but in relation to my first and second piercings. when i told her i wanted to redo the mark she seemed annoyed and like it was a burden which almost made me feel bad for even asking but i am going to make sure i am happy with how it comes out. she made me feel extremely uncomfortable to the point where I was hesitant to even go through with the piercing. Best piercing shop I've ever been to! And this is coming from someone who moved here from LA and was fitted by some of the "top" shops there. Not that those places were bad by any means, but my tragus jewelry kept breaking after only a year or two, and I was tired of having to replace it constantly with a new stud or hoop, especially because good solid gold and gem jewelry doesn't come cheap. Yesterday, I stopped in to replace yet another piece of jewelry. Josh took the time to size me and used a backing that was custom-fitted to my ear. My old shops would just bend the post and it would never fit quite right. But I can be sure this new piece isn't going anywhere, since it fits perfectly. I didn't get the lady's name at the front desk, but she was also super helpful in picking out a new piece of jewelry that would actually last. First off yes! Josh was awesome! I had my septum pierced for 3yrs and took it out and have had it out for 4yrs. I missed it so I decided on a whim I'm getting it redone today! They had same day appointments which was even better! Shop is clean parking can be a pain but walking is always nice too. Josh told me I'd be surprised sometimes the piercing doesn't always close up after that long- it may seem like it but he had a tool to check if it was still pierced or not, he wanted to rule that out before even attempting to re-pierce it again. To my surprise it was still open just shrunk to a much smaller size so all he had to do was stretch it a bit and it was done. I'm so glad I did my research and found this place I was so nervous as I have been told previously I had a small sweet spot for the piercing itself . I have been here three times now and I have mixed reviews. The cleanliness of the studio is amazing, the jewelry is top tier, and the pricing is standard. The staff on the other hand is what could use some work. Lou was so kind and caring and made me feel very welcome. Rubi and Erika however did not. I left feeling uncomfortable and judged. I felt like I was getting a lot of attitude and they weren't very warm. I was trying to ask questions and get advice and they just made me feel like everything I was doing or asking was wrong. I was told my other piercings were done incorrectly by other studios or were uneven. I bought the saline spray the first time I went there per their suggestion and when I went back for my follow up I was told I wasn't cleaning it properly and I was supposed to be using a soap (which was never discussed in other appointments). When I told them I was referred to Enigma by a studio in the Midwest, I was given attitude again and told they had no idea who I was talking about which is fine but it came off incredibly rude. I love my piercings but didn't LOVE my experiences. Enigma needs more Lou's. read more

Very professional piercing. They are legit and ask for birth certificates, ID's, and sign a consent form if your child is under 18, which I think is great. The studio is very clean and professional. They carry a big variety of jewelry. I asked to see their sterilized packs and they were cool with me asking. I sanitize and autoclave at my job so I know what to look for. Thank you for a great experience!! Never take your kids to a mall shop accessories store for piercings, that is not safe or professional. My daughter was surprised that it did not hurt. If I could rate zero stars I would. I bought a small horseshoe lipring here 2 days ago, paid 40 dollars for the professional piece of jewelry as "the threading is so nice you won't lose the ball" well it's two days later and the ball fell off at some point throughout my day; so I came out to replace it. At 7:50, when the business is scheduled to close at 8PM, the worker who was clearly on her way out the door refused to sell me the piece of jewelry because they're closed. Not professional, not cool. If you want to leave at 7:50, put your store hours at 7:50 I will never return or recommend business here. I went down the street and was welcomed warmly and bought a whole new piece for half the price. Avoid enigma. Period. Edited to add my husband knows exactly what front desk worker I was talking about when I came home and told him, apparently she has a known attitude problem, which I can also see is described in many other reviews here. Many of the other piercing places in Pacific Beach are MUCH friendlier, we will never return to enigma :) read more

I did a lot of research on Yelp to find a reputable piercing studio, as I wanted to re-pierce my ears after a bad experience years ago at a well-known mall jewelry shop that had caused me endless infections. Everything pointed me to Enigma, and I'm glad I chose Enigma to re-do my earlobes. They have real professionals who are extremely experienced in piercing, especially Didier, the founder of Enigma. Also, you get sterilized equipment (you sign a form to confirm this) and surgical grade steel. This is a huge improvement over mall stores that use plastic piercing guns that tear earlobe tissue instead of making a clean hole. Also, mall stores can't fully sterilize their guns. I visited Enigma over 2 months ago, and have been waiting to see how my ears did over the last several weeks before writing my review here. I was so lucky to come on a day when Didier was around to do my piercings. He answered my many questions (I had a lot due to my past issues) and shared a lot of knowledge that only a seasoned professional would know. He also took a long time with me to make sure the piercing would be exactly where I wanted it on my earlobe, and I was able to do it in a comfortable position laying down. It ended up costing a lot more than the mall store, but I am glad I chose a professional piercing studio over the tried-and-cheap mall shop solution. TIP: they don't take appointments, so hopefully you will be lucky and there won't be a long wait when you go. read more

This review is strictly for Evan... he was my piercer and after reading some reviews, I was sure I wanted to work with him. I went to a popular piercing shop in Encinitas and paid about $500 (mainly bc of the earrings I wanted) and they did an awful job. One earring was angled inward at the back and the other was completely uneven. I approved the markings but she missed it because it was NOT even at all. I removed this and went to one other shop (don't remember the name). They did a "better" job but it was still uneven by a hair. I was also very disappointed when the piercer told me the back doesn't matter anyways. Uhm... yes it does! Don't EVER let a piercer tell you that. The angle of the back matters 100% and your huggies or hoops will sit in your ear differently based on the angles they pierce this at even though the front looks "even". I warned Evan via a short message when I booked him that I have OCD and want this AS PERFECT AS POSSIBLE. I even came in like a crazy lady with the dot pre-drawn. I told him what I wanted. Not only did Evan notice the other piercing was angled inward in the back, he also noticed it was slightly upward as well. He saw where the piercing was previously and noticed these differences. He pierced me and after 3 tries... I got it exactly where I want it. When piercers give you an excuse that it's YOUR ear shape, don't listen to them. Your ears are not perfectly symmetrical, however, that's not an excuse to have one a LOT higher than the other. They should be able to draw the dot as evenly as possible without you having to constantly fix it and re-draw it. I didn't have to worry about any of that with Evan. I came in with the dot drawn but he had to clean it and re-draw it. He did an amazing job and I put my ears through a lot but I am so happy I found him. read more

Late review - I came on Valentine's Day to get a second lobe piercing, per a friend's high recommendation. It's a little shop but very organized, there's a large counter with various piercings/ear plugs etc. The piercing room is small but very clean. I had booked an appointment for a jewelry swap and a new industrial, and was booked with Lou at the Garnet location. They were so on top of things that when I arrived he was able to get set up quickly and mark everything once he confirmed my anatomy worked. I didn't get her name but the woman working the front desk made sure to get me an estimate for everything before we went ahead, which is always nice given that piercings quickly get expensive. Once Lou was ready he got me back quickly and had me lay down so he could get the piercing done, I'll say of all my piercings this was the 2nd most painful, as I was expecting, and installing the first part of the jewelry sucked but Lou made sure I was ok every step of the way (all 4 steps). My ear was sore for the rest of the day as to be expected and calmed down over the next 24 hours and now other than when I spray the saline spray I barely notice it. This has been my go to place for jewelry swapping but so glad I finally was ready for another piercing. read more

I'm someone who can understand that people have bad days. But also, as someone who's in the service industry, I understand that there are times where we need to try our best to be, at the minimum, responsive. Unfortunately, today Lou was seeming to be having a bad day which he took out on me. When I went in for a simple jewelry change, he literally did not speak to me more then two times and only after I had engaged him. When he did decide to respond to me, it was short, one word responses that anyone would interpret as someone who does not want to interact. You could feel the indignation in the air. It was pretty rude and honestly super awkward and made me very uncomfortable. So much so that I actually went to Church of Steel afterwards to complete my jewelry overhaul because I just did not want the appointment to last any longer. I will admit that I was 10 min late to my 20min appointment (which I called ahead of time to inform them, they said it was ok) but there was more then enough time to accomplish my goals still considering it was only going to be 3 pieces of jewelry to be installed (i only got two because I got out as fast as I could). I apologized profusely and literally it was radio silence from Lou. So awkward. I even still tipped him out of habit which I actually regret looking back because I work my ass off to be nice to my customers no matter what so that I can earn my tips. The only reason that there are two extra stars is because 1) The woman who checked me/closed me out was so nice and made me feel a little less weird about the whole experience. 2) He did correctly install the two I chose and I do like the way they turned out. read more

After reading the reviews and reading through their policies and procedures, I made an appointment with Evan a week prior for a helix and a lobe piercing. Got there 15 minutes before my appointment like I was instructed to do, picked my jewelry (2 titanium studs, from the sizes that the nice receptionist recommended for starting off), and filled out the online consent form, which I could've done earlier that day but I forgot to do. After that was done, Evan came out and greeted me. He was very nice and beer professional. He marked the spots on my ear where he thought were good and had me look in the mirror to see if I approved, which I did. The process itself took no time at all, probably about 30 seconds for each one, if that. I was surprised the lobe piercing actually hurt slightly more than the helix one, but neither were all that painful. Of course, I'll feel the soreness of them for a bit, but they turned out really nice.
