This is after another piercer assessed it, removed the original jewelry, found indentation and pus underneath and installed a longer bar.

I waited to write this because I wanted to be fair and factual. Unfortunately, I would not return to Enigma after my experience with an eyebrow piercing. My piercing became infected shortly after it was done. I don't necessarily blame the studio for that. Piercings can develop infections and I treated it. What concerned me afterward was that the jewelry continued to look extremely snug, with essentially no room for swelling. I went back to Enigma specifically because I was worried the barbell was too short. The first piercer I spoke with agreed that it looked borderline and said they could change it if I wanted, but since I'd never had an eyebrow piercing before, I was looking to them for professional guidance. Another staff member then looked at it and reassured me that it was normal, talking to me about blood-pressure fluctuations and "piercing anxiety" and suggesting that staying calm was important for healing. I trusted their professional judgment and left the jewelry in. The pain, swelling and redness subsequently returned. I went to another established piercing studio for a second opinion. The piercer there removed the jewelry and found that the ends had been embedding into my tissue, leaving indentations. There was pus underneath the jewelry. He replaced it with a longer barbell and the pressure and swelling began improving almost immediately. What upsets me most is that I had already identified the problem and specifically returned to Enigma for help with it. Instead of addressing my concern about the jewelry fit, I was reassured that what I was seeing was normal and had my concern characterized as anxiety. It wasn't anxiety. There was a physical problem with the piercing that ultimately required intervention elsewhere. I trusted this studio with my body and then trusted them again when I came back because something didn't feel right. I'm very glad I eventually trusted my own judgment and sought a second opinion, but I shouldn't have had to. Unfortunately, I can't recommend Enigma based on that experience.

I had a jewelry change done by Francheska and had an amazing experience. To back up a bit, the person helping me out at check-in/front desk is also super sweet. She had her hands full with customers both on the phone and in person, and made sure each of us was seen promptly. There is no lot parking but I got lucky with street parking when I went. The doorway is oddly cramped but there is a separate seating area just inside to the left, and they have a lot of cool art and cases full of jewelry on offer. My appointment started on time and Francheska was so helpful! She worked with me to pick the appropriate piece of jewelry for my piercing and changing it out was quick and painless. I appreciate that she offered options at lower price points, I think that is a major green flag for integrity. She asked if I had any other questions and she was able to accommodate a quick piercing cleaning as well as a downsize. I did not know one of my other piercings needed to be further downsized so I am grateful she noticed and had the time to do that for me as well. Overall, I have been coming to Enigma for all my piercing needs for as long as I've been in San Diego, and will continue to do so. Francheska is new to Enigma (but plenty of prior experience), but I highly recommend her for your piercing related needs!

I recently came back to get my tragus piercing with Rubi. She is always very friendly and has a cool, laid back vibe during the appointment, which helps calms my nerves. She is very thorough with the consultation and always makes sure that I am comfortable/relaxed and that I am breathing correctly through the piercing process (I tend to hold my breath which is a big no no). I cannot recommend her, and this shop, enough! Also, I recently found out that she, along with other pierciers here, are part of APP, which is so cool! You're in good hands here!

My piercing has been healed for years now but I can't seem to change the jewelry by myself. Am I able to bring in my own jewelry for a piercing change since you guys aren't piercing me?

Yes they do downsize and jewelry change outs! You can book it on the website there is an option for downsize and change outs and you can select how many you need.

How much is jewelry for a medusa and a navel?

Even for the smallest pieces you are looking at $200 and up (per stud) not per set.

How much is a medusa piercing?

This is entirely dependent on the jewelry you pick to be installed when you get pierced. Titanium jewelry is more affordable and usually runs around $60 but the gold jewelry varies widely. Make sure to get a quote from the staff that works the…

How much is nose piercing jewelry?

This entirely depends on what jewelry you pick. The titanium jewelry is much more affordable than the solids gold pieces. You have a huge selection of tops for nose jewelry so make sure to get a quote from the counter staff before you get it put in…

How much is a daith piercing including the jewelry?

This is totally dependent on the jewelry you pick. Get a quote from the counter before you get pierced. Titanium jewelry is much cheaper than solid gold. A hoop with a captive bead is around $50

    Do you do babies piercings?

Most reputable licensed piercers don't do piercings on children who can't consent verbally, please call and see if they have changed they're current policy.

How much does your eyebrow jewelry cost?

This entirely depends on what you pick. Titanium is more affordable (under $100) and they have high end solid gold. Make sure you get a quote for the piece you like before it's installed.

Does this shop use a gun or a needle for ear piercings?

    Hollow needle

I did my conch and flat ear piercing with you guys maybe more than a year ago. Would you happen to know the gauge size for both those piercings? I haven't changed jewelries for both piercings since i got them done. Thank you.

You should absolutely call them, but 16g is pretty standard for all cartilage piercings unless you had requested something bigger. Enigma doesn't really answer their yelp questions so give them a call at noon when they open and they are super nice.…

Are you providing services for labret piercings?

How much is standard septum jewelry?

This entirely depends on what piece of jewelry you pick. Titanium is much more affordable but if you get a solid gold decorative piece it will be a couple hundred. Ask for a quote before you get pierced because if the piece is in your body it's…

Can you pierce my nostril with a hoop ring?

Most reputable shops won't due this, you're more likely to have irritation bumps due to the pressure and movement of a hoop. Best to get a flat back labret bar. Check out the safepiercing.org website and read about APP standards. Start with the…

Hi- can you bring your own earrings? Or do you have to purchase what's in house?

They will not use any outside jewelry as the material and quality can't be verified. Going to a qualified, APP certified piercer is worth it, and you can't get a better place in San Diego County than Enigma. They have a large selection of jewelry…

How much is it to get a navel piercing? Also, how much is the jewelry?

It depends on the jewelry you buy. With a titanium piece its usually under $100 total but the solid gold pieces run higher. Have the people working the counter quote you before you get the piece installed.

Hi! Can i bring my own jewelry?

Hi there! do you guys do tongue piercings? i saw on their website that guidelines had been lifted and they could do under-mask piercings, but i didn't see tongue piercing listed under any of the services

Enigma still isn't piercing under the mask as of last week. They'll make a post on social media when they're offering those services again.

Are you guys currently doing vertical labret or Medusa piercings?

I've seen Erika do some labrets! I have seen none of the piercing team do medusas.

Do you guys do ear curation/styling?

Yes they do! You can book an appointment through their website for styling appointments.

Does this place do babies ears and if so how much and does the baby have to be a certain age?

Usually they only do children old enough to consent. I haven't seen a reputable piercer do an infants ears. It's best to wait until the child is old enough to ask and go to a reputable piercer who uses quality metals and sterile needles. No piercing…

    How much for a septum?

Entirely depends on the jewelry you select. A basic titanium hoop is the cheapest option but they have gorgeous options if you have some budget!

The tattoos were not great quality either. My artist which I believe is the owner or one of the main guys gave me attitude when I asked if he could make my tattoo half and inch small. Then I asked if he could rotate it as in physically turn it before placing it and he got annoyed again, said I'd have to pay extra if I'm going to be asking for all that. I explained it wanted it at 90 degree angle vs how how was going to place it. He wouldn't need to make any further changes. Obviously it was a misunderstanding but the way he spoke to me was not friendly at all. But the real issue was how bad the tattle was, didn't look like what was on the flash sheet at all. On the sheet it looked like fine line and well. Just look at my picture to see the issue. You can hardly read the inner part which was supposed to say Veneno. Overall it just came out sloppy and I'm genuinely embarrassed by it. I lie to folks and say that it's supposed to look like that to give spooky vibes but in reality that's not how the tattoo was portrayed on the flash sheet, I think they tatted a little too deep too.

0/10. Do NOT come here…read more I found this artist through Instagram for anime tattoos. His work looked good, so I reached out. He was quick to respond and asked for a $200 deposit, which I sent via Apple Pay on March 5 to the shop owner. We booked for March 16. Leading up to the appointment, he would send random updates on the design, but nothing was finalized. I gave feedback and stayed patient, even knowing they had a Friday the 13th event going on. I didn't hit him up again until March 15 (the day before my appointment) because we STILL didn't have a finished design, which is wild. He tells me he'll have it done that day. Cool. Then a few hours later, I get a generic email saying my appointment is canceled. No explanation. Nothing. So I reach out to the number I sent my $200 to asking for a refund, and instead of handling it like professionals, they get confrontational and start acting like I'm the problem for asking for MY money back. They try to hide behind a "no refund" policy... even though THEY canceled on me. Make that make sense. I added my conversation with the artist, since the owner wants to claim harassment. Judge for yourself. No policy was ever clearly shown to me, and communication was trash the entire time. Instead of owning their mistake, they blamed me and got disrespectful. I only got my money back after I told them I'd file a chargeback with my bank and take them to small claims court. Go read their bad reviews--you'll see a pattern, especially with how the owner talks to customers. Super unprofessional. Save your time, save your money, and go somewhere else.
