We ate here twice within a week during Laconia Bike Week. The first experience was good, where service was a bit slow but very friendly. Note that ALL tables here are very small. The layout is somewhat strange, as there are only very small tables for two, seats at the bar, or seats at only 2 hibachi tables. There's also a choice of sitting outside in a counter-like experience on the porch (although there is a good view of the lake). So unless you're having hibachi, forget about a larger group. The food was good but timing was bad. We shared a generous portion of Shumai as an appetizer, as well as a couple of sushi rolls. All came out together, which made it so the warm rolls were cold by the time we got to them after eating our appetizer. I think they were called Ocean Breeze and Green Dragon. We came back a few nights later, and this would be our last visit. While the food was good, service was horrendous. Two of us were there for TWO hours!!! TWO hours to get an appetizer, 2 sushi rolls, and dessert. We were already tired from working a long day, and not in the mood for a two-hour meal. They said they were very busy because they have only one fryer that was backed up, which was needed for the Volcano roll that we ordered. Yes, that roll was really delicious, but not worth the amount of time it took. We made the mistake of ordering the Fried Ice Cream for dessert (it looked interesting at another table), not realizing there was still a large back up for the fryer. It took almost half an hour to get that! For this very reason, we would never ever ever go back. An irritating side note was the amount of pressure that was put on us to order a drink from the bar. Neither one of us drink alcohol or soda, and we both only wanted water with our meal. The server continually came over to push drinks on us. Even after saying we only wanted water, we were asked yet again from someone else. Once or twice, OK. 4 or 5 times is annoying. As I said, the food is good, but we will not go back again. read more

QUALITY. Wow. Super impressed with the food and service. Took zero pictures but just stay with me here. Appetizers - we did the Steak Tataki, the Calamari, and a side of garlic noodles. Everything was delicious and fresh. Sushi rolls - we did the spicy tuna roll, the volcano roll, and the dragon roll. For three people that was plenty of food. Fair prices. We had been wanting to try this new restaurant for a while as we are fans of hibachi. We've been to many of the chain hibachi restaurants as well as smaller family owned locations. Enso did not disappoint. Our meal was as good as any we have had at any other hibachi restaurant and we will not hesitate to return. It's great to have a local hibachi venue!The only downsides are a reflection of the small size of the restaurant. The areas around the two hibachi tables are tight making it awkward for the chef and waiter/waitress to service the customers. We also felt a bit rushed at the end of our meal which is understandable because there are only two hibachi tables in the restaurant. I understand that they want to turn the tables as quickly as possible which translates to the customers feeling pressured to leave quickly after finishing. That's the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. read more

The festively decorated porch seemed to be a precursor of what we anticipated to be a wonderful night at this new restaurant. We were greeted by a friendly and professional hostess who led us through a crowded and noisy bar area to a separate room with two hibachi tables. Our drinks order was taken and while we waited for the group already seated at our table to finish their appetizers, we reviewed the menu and eventually ordered another drink! Once orders were taken we were served soup and salad, however the wait time between courses was longer than expected. Our chef finally rolled out his cart, starting with a little banging of utensils and then prepared a small pile of vegetables and a mountain of lo mein noodles. We would have enjoyed more vegetables (more zucchini, hold the broccoli please!) and while the lo mein was excellent it seemed to fill us up before we even received our main course. (Never had lo mein at a Hibachi steakhouse before.) The drinks were fantastic (Mai Tai for me, Mojitos for my son and his wife), as were the soup and salad, but the length of time between courses allowed us to find ourselves patiently sitting with empty plates between most servings. The real turn-off was the noise level. Between the noise from the bar and the loud fan at each table we couldn't even hold a conversation or hear what the chef was saying. Then music started blaring from overhead speakers around 7:30. Seriously?! Maybe a heavy curtain between the bar and the dining area would help?? The filet mignon was very good (although adding $9.99 to the already priced NY Strip seemed a little steep), as were the prawns. Unfortunately, I ordered the NY Strip/shrimp combo which were both bland and dry. The hibachi rice was also exceptionally bland which is unusual for a hibachi restaurant. As far as decor, the sterile painted walls left something to be desired as both hibachi tables sat facing a blank wall (note the wall behind the servers in both photos), except for the perfect view of the toilet, which was on full display from the glaring hallway lights whenever someone opened the bathroom door. But to recognize the positive: - decor is classy and high-end - staff/service is exceptional: professional, friendly, anxious to please - drinks are excellent - soup and salad were delicious (as was the unexpected lo mein) - filet mignon and prawns excellent (as opposed to the NY Strip, shrimp and lobster) We will probably return just to enjoy a few of these positives or for drinks and appetizers. read more

Worst Japanese (if you could call it that)Steakhouse we have ever been to. First, we were surprised to see that it was ran by Spanish people (not being racist, just not what we expected). Second, music was blaring so loud my wife and I couldn't hear each other when we were sitting next to each other, although they did turn it down after we asked. Third and foremost, the whole meal (minus the seaweed salad) was beyond terrible.The "Chicken Fried Rice looked and tasted like old Rice a Roni with just chicken pieces that weren't cooked with the rice and was dry and over cooked,but it did have some egg in it ,nothing else, no onion, soy sauce. The sushi looked like just a pile of crabmeat(tasted artificial) just thrown on top of overcooked rice rolls with just cream cheese. Along with the mai tai tasting like Sunny D with what seemed like it didn't have any alcohol in it (not looking to get plastered off of 1 , but at least taste it). Very limited menu , missing all of the typical menu items you would expect to see in a Japanese Steakhouse such as crab Rangoon, steak teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, boneless spareribs. Also, I saw an older worker(waitstaff maybe), picking his nose with his thumb and index finger, and without even wiping or washing then immediately handling food and drinks for other people that were there. The definition of a 5 star establishment and my first experience here. I've been living in the Meredith area more or less for 4+ years, and this was my first time at Enso (it opened about 3-4 months ago) Omg what an awesome experience I am currently having as I am writing this review. The location they took over used to be the Lakeside deli, and it was ok. The new remodeling job looks A+ I sat outside on the back deck with an amazing view of Lake Winnipesaukee during sunset. Ok first off, the menu has everything you'd want from sushi to hibachi to a variety of appetizers and more than a dozen specialty cocktails to choose from. First time here so I started with a Mai tai and the spicy edamame to see how things went. The drink came in a tiki mug (immediately put a smile on my face) and was the perfect combo of strong and sweet cocktail. I am currently debating ordering a second one. 10/10 The edamame were in a really nice chili oil and sauce, I enjoyed them 9/10 The sushi roll I ordered was the dragon roll (shrimp tempura with topping of eel and more goodies) y'all I gotta say that for $16 the quality and size of this sushi roll was top notch. Huge pieces, delicious. The staff was super friendly, frequently checking in to see that everything was going smoothly. I can't wait to come back. read more

We've been dining out in the lakes region for decades and our first visit here in early July was a very pleasant surprise. This is food we would choose to eat in a big city, not just the usual "getting by" meals we are accustomed to for nights out around Winnipesaukee. Stellar sushi. Hibachi was also great. Broad menu. Attentive service. And (for those really hot days that pop up each summer) lots of A/C so you can truly enjoy that waterfront view of Meredith Bay. Sushi in the lakes region! Its really happening! Finally something besides American, pizza, or Mexican food! We ate at the sushi bar last night. Here is the breakdown: Drinks: full bar and they were spot on. Solid choices and the bar tender clearly knows how to make a cocktail. Apps: Edamame: Standard was fine. Spicy was a bit messy (we were expecting spicy salt but it was more of a sauce) taste was good though. Gyoza -as good as they get. Tempura - nicely cooked. Pieces were huge but flavor was there. Rolls: We tried 5 different ones. All were delicious. Dessert: fried green tea ice cream was excellent! Overall a great experience! Again- we are so excited that someone took the risk to open a new cuisine in the lakes region. Go check it out next time you are in Meredith! read more

We are hibachi lovers. This was super disappointing. Dry, flavorless meat. Soup was basically warm water no flavor. Salad couldn't be eaten because no other option except ginger dressing. Asked for water and was given water infused with something that wasn't pleasant. due to allergies, this shouldn't happen. water should be just water. ordered our hibachi and they came out to cook it and the noodles had soy sauce instead of teriyaki. rice was only white or $3 for fried rice. chicken was so thin you could see thru it. same with the steak. both meats were tough and bland. husband got scallops and they were undercooked with no lemon or seasoning. we go to hibachi once a week in Florida and we're looking for good hibachi here as were here for the summers and fall. looking at the pictures it looks like a whole chicken breast is given but that's not the case at all. we paid way more at Ensos than we have ever paid at a hibachi and got less food with no flavor. won't be going back. also, when the kitchen door opens you can see the dirt and filth back there. no thanks! read more

We tried ENSO for takeout sushi this evening. Ordered the Assorted 15 piece sashimi tray, the Yellowtail Jalapeño specialty roll and the Rainbow roll. It was the perfect amount for two people, cost $61. The sushi was melt-in-your mouth fresh, creamy and delicious. We were delighted with the quality and quantity. Thank you, Enso. Great hostess upon entering, made us feel welcome even without having reservations. Very cute inside. Husband ordered gin martini extra dry asking for very little vermouth. Drink came full of Vermouth, the waiter corrected and brought back. Mai tai served in a great mug but was very sweet,and not much kick to it. Vegetable sushi, very good. I ordered chicken and another ordered salmon and another shrimp, at our table. I do not eat seafood and having chicken in the middle and the two seafoods on either side not good especially is someone is allergic to shellfish. I think to have fried rice and noodles, omg carb overload. Was surprised at a mint served at end but the basket was very cute it was served in. I decided to give a review of a place that I did NOT eat at, which is weird. However, they are a new restaurant in this area and I was impressed upon going inside. The concern is that it is small. We learned that last night and if you want to dine there, you must make a reservation, or take your chances at the sushi bar or that one of the small tables for two are open. We had a party of 4 and we had no place to sit other than at the bar, and this was an old friends and conversation night, so we left. This place could be a summer "hot spot" and very much in demand. They have one hibachi table that seats up to 10 and you need a reservation if you intend to eat there. They have a few small tables (that were occupied) and two sushi bar kind of set ups with rows of seats vs. tables. I did like the vibes in there and the place looked nice. The sushi fish/seafood was set up in a glass front case on the side of the sushi bar and looked lovely and fresh. I love hibachi cooking and the fact that an opportunity exists to have that right in Meredith and not all the way down in Concord is a big deal. My husband loves sushi, so this looks like a great place for us in the future. We'll come back when it is just the 2 of us. Looks worth it. We'll be making a reservation for sure when we decide to come. Looks good, give it a shot! We might even get a few others together to book the hibachi table. read more

Our first visit to Enso was rather disappointing. We ordered from the Hibachi menu without sitting at the Hibachi table, that might have been the problem. The Hibachi meals are supposed to come with soup and salad, which they never brought out. We asked about that when we already were given our main dish. They offered to bring it after all, but who wants soup when you're already into your main dish? My husband had the NY strip and I had scallops. The scallops were the tiny bay scallops, that did not have the chewy little piece on the side removed and were cooked dry. The NY strip was cut into tiny pieces and cooked super well done. I'm not sure if it's always cooked like that with Hibachi, but for me it's ruining an otherwise great piece of meat. Not worth the $40 and $50 dollars. The experience might be worth it if you're actually at the Hibachi table and are getting the entertainment with it, but the food itself is not worth it. On the positive side the service was nice, no complaints there. We might come back to try the sushi. read more

Firstly the moment you step inside, the ambiance is warm and contemporary, setting the stage for a delightful dining experience along with getting greeted by nice, friendly staff. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, always ready to provide recommendations and ensure a pleasant dining experience. During our service in the restaurant we notice in their menu they had various dishes with their hibachi, entrees, appetizers and their amazing sushi's. The hibachi grill was a performance. The chef made it a lively atmosphere and directed engagement. It was astonishing to see. Overall, Enso Japanese Steak House is a treasure in Meredith, it's definitely worth a visit for its delicious food.
