Complete waste of time! How can you tell someone the car was sold on Sunday, when I spoke to Julio on Monday including a test drive, and scheduled an appointment the next day to buy the car. I have reached out to the sales team every month. With each call, the team reassured me that there were no issues, that my plates would be arriving soon. May 2nd, 3 months after the purchase, I was informed that there was indeed a hold up as the van had not been smog cleared for California. I then got the smog taken care of and sent back to the Albuquerque location, with the promise and reassurance that my plates would arrive in the following four weeks. It is now two months later---6 months in total)---and I still do not have my plates. During a phone call to the location manager on Tuesday June 28th, Manager Ken Otero was completely unaware of my situation. He assured me that since he was now the one handling it, that it would be straightened out. Ken has not once called to update me on the situation. He has sent one email to a Courtney Johnson in title and registration, who has not gotten back to him. Ken is no longer taking or returning my phone calls. I am extremely frustrated with management, corporate, and Hertz as a whole and I can confidently advise against purchasing a vehicle from this location, or from Hertz.

    The Day You Rent Away…read more I almost can't believe I'm writing a five-star review for a car rental place, and yet here I am. We did technically have our rental thru Alamo® but there was no one at their desk (it was Christmas day), so we were sent here to their sister company at Enterprise® to complete the transaction. The Good: *Booked thru Costco for an eight-day rental for a small SUV for less than $100/day--including taxes and fees. *The lady working the desk, Yvonne, was outstanding; friendly, fast, efficient, and didn't go too hard on the insurance upsell. *Once we were done, we were sent to the lot where a friendly gentleman named Miguel *ACTUALLY WALKED US TO OUR CAR*!! Lord, in heaven, I got a case of the vapors and thought I was going to pass out. These places usually just turn you loose in a sea of vehicles and say, "Good luck and don't let the door hit ya where the dog should've bit ya." I'm looking at you, Baltimore... =T The Meh: *They didn't have any small SUVs left (I felt that Seinfeld bit about taking but not keeping the reservation creep into my head), but fortunately, Miguel hooked us up with a Toyota® RAV4™ upgrade for free. The Ugly: *The car exterior was a bit dirty, and a few of the windows were downright filthy. I'm not sure if this car had just been returned and they hadn't had time to clean it yet or what? Regardless, it's not really a big deal. TLDR: I still can't believe I'm giving 5* to a car rental place, but they definitely deserve it. To quote Kramer: It's a Festivus Miracle!

The shuttle bus was so easy because there is just one. You don't have to try to look for the company you rented through because this shuttle takes you to them all. The shuttle seems to run quite often. When we arrived at the facility, our first day, there was one already waiting to leave and one behind us. When we left on our final day in ABQ, there were 4 shuttles waiting to go back to the airport. This was on a Sunday too, so don't be scared if you see the hours posted here that they are closed on the weekends. They aren't. The shuttle was also a pretty quick trip, so we definitely got to the airport early. The main building is a long one, with counters flowing on both sides from the middle, where the shuttle drops you off. There are many signs telling you which way to go to your counter. The parking lots follow this pattern and do a u-shape around the building. While there could have been a few clearer signs for returns, I'd say it was pretty easy, as you come in the way you left.

In the past, we've been helped aboard by the driver and we've always tipped at least a dollar a bag. This trip, we had the cash, but not the help. Inside the facility, all of the car rental agencies are ready and willing to help with your reservation or find a car for you. This trip, we reserved with Budget. We had no wait. Ian helped us and we got our car (a Camry) in record time. When we returned, we were assisted by a young woman who scanned our car's barcode, emailed our receipt, and told us we were all set. We gassed up last night, 7 miles from the airport, and put 7 gallons in the car for the 137 miles we drove it. Either Camrys are getting poorer mileage or the person before us didn't REALLY fill it up.

    The problems are actually caused by national management, not only with these mergers, but by…read moreoffering such low prices and dealing in volume, while not putting nearly as much money as they should to staffing. You can't call for a stampede of customers, and not be ready to serve them with only 2 clerks at the front desk. The result is a 90 minute wait for a car. Fortunately, they have the cars, however, by the time people get them, they are fuming. And I have to ask: Who in this day and age uses a dot matrix printer? That part alone just screams that national management really doesn't care. If they're going for volume they have to invest in standalone tablets so people can check themselves in, and choose their car and coverages, in addition to having the clerks. As far as their Perks club, the app doesn't work in the car rental terminal. Also, the app itself doesn't allow you to cancel without talking to someone on the phone at the national service center. Overall, everyone at the ABQ Payless Car Rental, and online has been nice. But it's offset by this untenable situation that the national corporate management has set in terms of staffing.

I was returning a rental to the airport and, due to a freeway accident, was running tight on time. I pulled up and asked the check-in staff how much it would cost for them to fill the gas tank. He told me he didn't know and said I should go inside to ask. Inside, I was met by an incredibly rude agent who told me it was $10 per gallon--which is outrageously overpriced. I immediately told them I'd prefer to fill the tank myself, as I was being told the charge only after already arriving. But they refused to allow it. They claimed the car had already been "checked in" and wouldn't give me the keys back, even though I had just walked inside. To make matters worse, the tank was almost half full when I returned it (it's a RAV4 with a 14.5 gallon tank), but they charged me $107 to top it off. That math doesn't even come close to adding up, and it felt completely predatory. It felt like a total scam. There was zero transparency, no customer service, and absolutely no flexibility. I got overcharged for gas in a way that felt dishonest and predatory. I will never rent from Payless again--and I recommend others don't either. There are plenty of rental companies that won't treat you like this.

    Very disappointed with this location. When you rent be sure to inspect the car very very…read morethoroughly. When I picked up the car I was told that any damage smaller than a couple inches in diameter was not significant and did not need to be noted on the renters agreement. So naturally I looked for larger dents and dings and did not find any so of course I signed the agreement stating that there was no damage to the car. When I returned the car, I was told that the car had hail damage and that I needed to pay a $500 deductible to get it fixed. The damage is nearly unperceivable to the naked eye and is much much smaller than the dents and dings that I had already noticed before I rented the car. New Mexico had several hail storms before I rented the car, and even if I had looked for damage beforehand, I would not have seen it. It is very very minute. I made the mistake of making small talk with the agent when I rented the car and I had mentioned I was driving to Colorado. Well, they also had hail that weekend, however we did not get caught in it. Unfortunately at that point it is your word against theirs and since I already signed the agreement I was pretty much stuck. The original agent I signed the agreement with saw me when I first got there but then left to the back and I did not see her again which was strange because I was there for over an hour. I just feel like they try to wring as much money out of you as possible. It is unfortunate because I have rented with Enterprise before and I used to brag about their customer service but I won't be renting with Enterprise again and I will not advise my friends or family to do so either. The whole thing felt very shady and I do not believe that this location brings the customer service that I thought Enterprise stood for.
