Had an overall good experience renting a car here. I believe it was around $200 for a two-day rental (obviously excluding gas and insurance). My pickup time was at 3; I showed up a little early as I didn't know if there was going to be any paperwork or rigamarole (there wasn't) and they let me check out the car early which was nice. Car was super clean and was in great condition. I think it only had like 6k miles on it. Some fun bells and whistles like automatic steering etc. On the return, my arrival time was after they closed so it was a little nerve wracking just putting the keys into the mailbox and hoping for the best, but everything worked out okay. Only "complaint" is that I tried changing my reservation to be a one-way (drop off in Albany or Saratoga) and there was no way to do it. I called to ask about it and it sounds like it's just because they didn't have a ton of inventory in Ithaca, which is understandable but limited my travel options. Would use again! read more

Enterprise is very helpful and and patient with me letting me use their office to make a number of calls to various components of the accident that I had which was a hit-and-run and a lot of things needed to come together I finally did get a rental after about 4 hours the New York state troopers had my driver's license as I was the only witness to the hit and run and they called me and said oh Mr Clark we found your license in our trooper car and before then of course Enterprise could not rent me a car until I physically had the license but they're very understanding and before closing I returned with the license and got the car and I had it two days and now I'm returning to Charlottesville where I'm from and I'll be using Enterprise again to rent a car down there my car turned out to be drivable but in fact pretty damaged in the front but drivable and they referred me to a number of places that had the car and inspected it and said you know it's drivable so I have nothing but good things to say about particularly the Ithaca office of Enterprise I have used Enterprise before while traveling and found them to be very very consistently helpful read more

Great experience and service! Nate (our Enterprise service manager at this location) was extremely kind and helpful both during initial pickup and dropoff. This location is not directly attached to the Ithaca International Airport, but was within walking distance of my hotel. (I came in afterhours so all the airport desks were closed anyway). I rent cars here all the time for work. Sometimes it's best to reserve well in advance due to lack of availability, especially when nearby colleges are on break. Staff has changed a lot over the years. Used to be a mixture of genders and ages, with many longtime employees who knew my name, preferences. Now it's mostly young men, seemingly recent college grads. It feels more corporate and definitely less attention to detail. I realize staffing issues make for a huge demand on staff here. Hopefully, they will be able to regulate their services and staffing soon. read more

Warning - check your credit card statements to make sure you aren't charged extra, and if so, that they actually refund you the full amount back. They first charged me erroneously for an extra day of rental. I called them when I saw it on my statement, and they said they will refund me that extra day. A month later, I still haven't seen the refund, so I called again. They then said they will refund me now. A few days later, I saw that a partial refund has been processed. So I called again. Turns out, tax wasn't refunded. Only a manager can refund tax - normal customer support representatives can't. So I guess that if you don't happen to talk to a manager on the first try, you just have to cross your fingers that the system caught the refund and will refund you tax as well. Now this time I happened to talk to a manager, so he said he will refund me the tax. We'll see if I will actually get my full refund soon. Be sure to check your credit card statements to make sure that they aren't stealing your money. read more

Get ready for surprise fees, methods of payment changes, and, undisclosed deposit amounts. I was told (at the time that I was to pick up the car and leave town) that if I "don't like it" I should "check with their competitors." Thank you very much Manager of the Ithaca, NY location, very kind of you to mention that option now that my back is to the wall and I need to get on the road right now with a handful of First Responders and Veterans waiting for me. yet, that might be the best advice I received and it will be taken under advisement moving forward. I'm going to mention (solely for the sympathy vote.) that I am a principle for a non-profit where we work with First Responders and Military Personnel providing support and therapy focused around PTSD and Substance Abuse. We needed a full size SUV to shuttle attendees to and from different therapy events and locations throughout the week. This was the purpose of my visit, this is why we needed the full size SUV. This ultimately wouldn't be made available to us. of course, I don't find that out until the time of pickup. At one point I was doing this same line of work with The Brattleboro Uniformed Services and we had a partnership with Enterprise, we did business with them often and they supported our mission. Enterprise inevitably became a sponsor of The Uniformed Services program up until Covid shut us down for good. We now operate under a new business name with no official affiliation with Enterprise therefore, I never asked for nor was expecting a discount nor special treatment. We were willing/expecting to pay full price, and to have nothing more than a transactional experience. I also never disclosed this prior history with Enterprise or my role within it. (This was a complete fresh slate interaction.) However, the bait and switch tactics on the pricing and flippant & dismissive, "go call a competitor." response from the manager was something special. and made me feel some kind of way. Ithaca Manager; I found it incredibly unpractical to take your advice when "you" waited until the last minute to pull your bait and switch game. your option provided to me, was effectively taken off the table when, my then back was against the wall given such time constraints. At that point you knew that you had won our little confrontation and you had the simile to prove it. (congratulations on your victory!) I would like that manager to know however, that her words did have their desired affect on me and I will never forget our exchange. I will gladly tell everyone I know about how great you are at playing that particular game and warn them to never play it with you. You're just too good! Now, you may notice Ithaca Manager, I didn't ask to go above your head, didn't ask for a discount, I didn't call after the fact and complain to someone else, I didn't raise my voice, or, get snippy. I was however obviously defeated. And you, knowing my only option was to simply bent over and take whatever Enterprise was going to give me and pay however much was asked relished in your victory. Now, to the Reader; I don't want to go over board on my own defense here but I do want full disclosure. I WAS NOT going to write a review. but, Enterprise kept blowing up my email asking for one. sooooooo. Here you go! One last thing and I truly believe this is the strongest response I can give that Enterprise will never care or become aware of. The board of directors of our little non-profit is in agreement with me, we will be taking the Ithaca managers advise and, using a competitors services moving forward. I advise you all do the same. Okay, this review has gone on long enough. In short; at least at the Ithaca, NY location they pulls a bait and switch/undisclosed deposits, taxes, and payment methods. If you reserve a car online there is no certainty that the reservation will be valid at the counter. I was left stranded at the Enterprise.

Unfortunately, I reserved a car at the Ithaca Enterprise for a trip out of town for the weekend. I used my university discount code (I'm a teaching assistant and grad student). The reservation was made 2 weeks in advance and everything was confirmed. Upon arriving to pick up the car they told me the price would be more than twice what I was quoted - because they claim people have been fraudulently using the discount code. When using the code online, the website asks if the usage is for official business. I answered honestly that no, it's for personal use. Nonetheless, the university website states that the code is valid for personal use. Insurance is not covered when used for personal activities but the discount still applies. I've done this before at this branch. The Enterprise site allows the reservation to be made when selecting "personal" rather than "official business" and quotes the discount price. If the discount does not apply - this should be communicated clearly beforehand. As it stands, I was left without a rental car unless I wanted to pay more than twice the price I was quoted at the point when I'm scheduled to pick up the car when I have made plans on a schedule. This company may change the price at the last minute with no notice. This smacks of bait and switch tactics...pressuring an unaware consumer into paying more than doubled prices just because they have made plans and need to keep to a schedule. This kerfuffle delayed my arrival and left me scrambling for a new rental car with an agency that actually honors the price it quotes (with a discount code or without). Avis is the safer bet in Ithaca. They will not honor confirmed discount codes. Renter beware!!! read more

Super easy to rent a car here, even if the building was a little hard to find. But once inside, it took five short minutes to complete the paperwork (I had already reserved the car on line.) The agent was young and we, older, but she really engaged with us instead of delivering the kind of bored interaction I often encounter with car agents. The best part was the car-a beautiful pastel green model! It made my sister and me laugh out loud because we weren't expecting such an unusually colored car. But it was great! The agent said she was also happy and relieved that we liked it because sometimes when they offer this car to men, the guys say, " Oh no--this is so not going to happen! " All in all, if you can believe it, renting a car in Ithaca today was actually fun! Five stars for the location, less for the phone reservation system that kept recording my address wrong, and less for online that said no cars were available. I wish there was a way to call the local location directly. But i digress. They did have cars available, the staff all looked to be under 35 and i didn't expect competency, but i was wrong. They were outgoing, ran to open the doors for me, made fun conversation, asked about how it drove after, called during my rental to check in to see if i had any questions, didn't force insurance, and included snow brushes in every car. The hours aren't late so there is no pickup if you have an emergency at night, contrary to the slogan, or if they only have two employees working. But they did offer me a discount to get an uber instead so that was something. read more

I have used Enterprise a number of times over the past 10 years mostly in Ithaca but also out of town. Service has always been excellent. Love the pick up and drop off service. They even called me the next day to make sure that everything was OK with the car and that I was happy with my rental. I have had bad experiences with other car rental companies but have always been satisfied with Enterprise. Highly recommend them and plan to use them agai. read more

I rented a car from them while my car was in the shop due to an accident that was not my fault. Juggling between the Enterprise and the insurance company was not a pleasant experience. They said I have two weeks to keep the rental car, but when the car was finally repaired after two, three, times of extension from the Honda body shop, they called a few hours after I just let them know that I will be picking up the car the next day because I have the afternoon schedule filled, and demanded I come to return my car in the same afternoon(!) and if not, I need to contact the insurance company myself to fix the situation. I called a few times prior to this and they guaranteed that the insurance company gave ample time (2 weeks) for me to keep the rented car - how can someone call me on the same day that the car is finally repaired (after extension TWICE) and demand to come return the car the same afternoon? No matter where in the US I live, I go to Enterprise. In fact, it's one of the businesses I look up before I relocate somewhere. They keep employees who want to master their job duties, which doesn't always happen nowadays. And having a good eye like that allows their staff to couple those administrative tasks with soft skills that are corporate but not too Stepford Wives. I've been happy with all of the locations I've rented from here in upstate NY, but I've used this one in Ithaca semi-regularly, so they get my Yelp. Enterprise is honest about the condition of what they've rented you. They do no-cost upgrades if they don't have what you've reserved. They answer questions in-person and over the phone whether or not you're currently using one of their cars. If they're busy, it's because they have more customers than they can handle and not because someone's late for work, or a computer's on the fritz, or any reason due to unprofessionalism or inefficiency. If you can prove you're not a financial or criminal risk, they'll rent to you without a credit card (Thanks, Syracuse!). And I'll never forget the time some lame-o had my rental towed here in Ithaca, resulting in a late return. When I explained my side of the story with documentation to the Ithaca office, they were happy not to charge me the extra day I would've have to cough up for not returning their car on time. I booked a rental on line and received confirmation for a specific location. I get there and they say they have no cars! We drive to another location in the same city and they have no cars. Drive like hell to another city because they close in half an hr but call to confirm they have a car and yes they do. I've rented from the Ithaca, NY location previously with no issues. We get there get all set up and then I am told they can't accept my card because it doesn't have a chip in it, I explain what the day had been like and the young man took pity and said I'll enter it manually. Then my card is declined because unbeknownst to me my bank also puts a 20% hold. Once a card is declined they can't run it again for 24 hrs. So come back tomorrow. I call before we go and am told fine we are all set to go. Get there and again get told can't use my card because there is no chip, I explained that the day before the guy was going to run it manually and I get a blank dumb look and am denied! First of all, when you book a car online and there isn't any available it should tell you and secondly my money is just as good as someone's who has a card with a chip in it. You can bet I will never return to Enterprise in Ithaca, NY if I could give them a negative review I would but since you have to give them a rating they get 1 star! read more

I love the Cascadilla St. Enterprise! I had a reservation for Labor Day weekend starting Sat. 9am. They called me on Friday night, the night before, and informed me that there would be a long wait, and that I could come in Friday instead to pick up the car to avoid the wait, without charge! I did this, and the pickup was quick, and I got a free upgrade to an Infiniti sedan, one of the nicest cars I've ever driven. On return, I was able to drop off in the evening after they closed. Great in-town option for those who don't have a car. I can walk or ride my bike down and lock to covered storage out back. Very reasonable rates ($50 a day) and no shady sales that I've experienced. Renting a car through the Ithaca (Cascadilla St) location was so easy. Our car was in an accident and the insurance company went through Enterprise. When we arrived we were greeted by Grant Vicks who couldn't have been nicer or more professional. It is a busy rental location but they had 3 representatives when we arrived so we were in and out within 5 minutes. I have never had such a quick experience renting a car. I used this rental car location on August 29, and reserved the car that morning for immediate use. They were very efficient on the phone. They sent someone to pick me up and were friendly and efficient the entire time. When I returned the car the next day, I noticed that there were more customers in the office, and the staff helped each person immediately. I was very impressed with this Enterprise location. I rented a vehicle from the Ithaca location of enterprise on buffalo st. and was extremely disappointed. The customer service was absolutely terrible and the staff was very unknowledgeable. During the process of getting the car the representative was distracted multiple times and just took her time to do other tasks while I waited, like I have nothing better to do than sit in their office. To say the least they were incompetent and enterprise, as a company should look at shutting this branch down or cleaning house and putting a new staff in place. I am a loyal customer of Enterprise and have had mostly had good experiences with them. However, I had issues with this location on several occasions. The availability shown online does not represent the cars that are really available at this location. I usually book a small car since they are more fuel efficient and therefore more economical and environmental friendly. I have been upgraded twice to a van/truck since my booked category was not available when I arrived at the location, so I ended up with higher expenses for the gas. Also, they are very strict with charging for late returns and will charge $10.89+tax for any additional hour. read more

Don't even try to rent a vehicle if you don't have a credit card. Debit card holders are forced to jump through unnecessary hoops (proof of residence, income, paid utilities, etc) We successfully rented a car three weeks ago with the exact same documents we attempted to use today, but were denied because our utility bills are under the landlord's name and not our own. The employees are incompetent and initially questioned the use of a birth certificate as sufficient proof of identification (???) Overall the experience was incredibly frustrating, the business employs unhelpful employees who enforce inconsistent regulations and blindly follow ludicrous protocol without room for negotiation. read more

My poor mother just had a terrible experience with this company. She was left outside alone in the dark when it was raining because the store closed and they wouldn't wait with her. This was after she was told twice they had a car for her to rent so she was just dropped off at the store. Thank god I was only 25 minutes away when she was left outside, but I'm still furious.
