This is not a Hertz!! This is a privately owned business. They do not allow drop off at a different location. Total rip off!!!

They went home and simply abandoned us on a normally scheduled flight arrival. What on earth kind of an airport car rental company is this? The Avis desk right next has a lockbox for their customers. The idiots at the hertz desk might have "borrowed" a spot in the lockbox. But no, nothing at Ithaca airport at 11pm. NOTHING. read more

I would give negative stars if possible, rent from anywhere but here. I have filed two complaints with the BBB and FTC, and I suggest you do the same if you have a similar experience. We recently rented a van for one day from this location. After filling the gas and returning the car with a gas receipt, we were surprised to find that we were charged an additional $56 for gas, even though the tank was nearly completely full. Even though we used some gas to drive over to the car rental location, that should not have been anywhere near $56 worth. When we called the branch, several different employees gave us different amounts of gas filled, ranging anywhere from 3-5 gallons of gas, raising suspicions that they were arbitrarily generating numbers to account for such an outrageous charge. When we contacted the manager, he was extremely curt and claimed that we did not return the car with a gas receipt, even though several witnesses can attest to the fact that we did indeed have the receipt. We then sent photographs with the gas meter, time and location stamp, and credit card charge from the gas station and still have not received a response or reasoning for the charge. I'm frustrated with the service and accusatory tone of every single one of the employees, especially the manager. read more

I was going to rent a car from them but I switched to another rental company because the guy, Mike, with whom I was speaking was absolutely rude and bratty. In addition to having butchered my name at the beginning of the conversation, he had no interest to work with me at all. He talked as though he's doing me a big favor. Baloney! My neighbor backed into my car by accident and I needed to rent a car for a week or two while my car was going to go into a body shop. I told the Hertz guy, Mike, I need more or less the same kind of car I usually drive, a sedan with a trunk, with similar or less gas mileage (I drive Honda Civic, how hard is my request?) and he told me: no, he cannot make any promise, and I can end up with anything from a sedan to something like Toyota Yaris with virtually no cargo capacity. He said he cannot guarantee anything nor make any effort; I would get anything in "compact" car category. I asked him if he can make a quick note to my reservation that I need a decent cargo or a trunk, since I needed the car for over a week, but he said no. I told him if this was my business, I would make that happen. And he told me, "well, this is not your business." Too bad! I called the insurance company and changed the rental car company to Enterprise, whom I called earlier and the woman there gave me much more courteous and reasonable response. If I could give no stars I would. There are only 2 car rental choices at the Ithaca airport. Hertz is not afraid to use this to their advantage and price gouge. I rent cars often and never get cars with over 40000 miles but I did with Hertz. I had the car for 28 hours and paid over $270.00. read more

I had good experiences at other Hertz locations, but apparently because this is a locally owned franchise, rather than a corporate location, they use unethical tricks to scam customers. The last 5 days were charged at a much higher daily rate, rather than just adding a weekly rate on, which has been my experience at every other rental company. I said I would hold onto the car and bring it back in 2 days, but was told it was too late to change the paperwork. I was not given the AAA discount for the final week before that. Again, after calling someone, presumably the owner, it was,"too late, the paperwork already went through." If you do rent from them, insist they inspect the car with you, and take your own photos before and after renting. The desk person didn't come out to go over the car with me either time. I got a call the day or two after drop off, saying there were scratches on 2 doors and the rear bumper. I washed the car thoroughly before returning it, because I was told there would be an extra charge if I didn't, (never required anywhere else). I didn't see any scratches. I was sent text photos of the scratches, they were thin and not that visible, so I said I would pay a reasonable estimate. I just received it: $1,100! According to the estimate, both doors and the bumper cover were removed from the car, all exterior trim and the mirrors were removed from the doors and later reinstalled. This at $ 40. an hour. "Paint supplies" were $255. Those thin scratches could have been repaired with a $15. paint pen available at any car dealer. Removing the mirrors versus putting tape over them? read more

Helpful and friendly. Car was clean and the staff member was honest and straightforward. I was presently surprised based on the Yelp review. If you're an AAA member the young renter penalty is waived, and you get a discount on top of that. You do have to pay the airport concession fee, unlike with the Enterprise nearer Ithaca proper. read more

Had a great experience during a stressful situation. At the last minute the first place I reserved a car at (Enterprise) called to let me know they didn't have any cars at all in Ithaca. (Their website doesn't communicate with local branches). So I made a reservation with Hertz and arrived at the airport about 20 minutes later, when the Hertz desk was set to open. The gentleman at the desk (Buck I think was his name) came in a couple minutes after 8, but was quick and efficient from the moment he walked in the door. Very polite and courteous, professional, and HELPFUL. Told me which number to call if this happens, what numbers not to call, gave me the lowdown on the NYS toll system and how it relates to rental cars, etc. Within 10 minutes I was all set. He went to pull the car up from the lot. Overall I had a very nice experience. read more

These guys are always great. I've been renting from them for a couple of years for business and personal trips and they always help me out. Mike's been there for years and always goes the extra mile, there's some other new faces there now but they all have been helpful and go out of there way to make sure I'm happy and there's a car ready for me. I've tried some of the other local companies in the past but this is my go to when I have a choice (my business sometimes makes the choice). I would recommend them to my friends and anyone visiting the area A+. read more

Beware of fraud at this location! I rented a car for a one way trip, drop off in Ithaca. When I arrived I dropped the car off in the lot a day early, took a photo of the odometer to record the mileage and left the key in the drop box. A few days later I got an additional charge for $294 and a rental receipt that stated the car had been dropped off one day late, in the wrong city, and with 300 miles more than in reality. I suspect the Ithaca branch didn't register my return and then rented the vehicle to someone else, and I was charged for that person's rental when their car return was recorded. This should have been easy enough to figure out and fix, especially with my location and time stamped evidence of my return. However Duke, the extremely rude and condescending man at the Hertz desk, refused to acknowledge the error and also berated me for not being "adult enough" to have written the mileage down on the rental paperwork at dropoff. I suspect he is used to dealing with college students who don't know any better than to let him get away with this fraud. I will be reporting this branch to BBB and also to Hertz corporate. Avoid this location at all costs. If you do rent here, make sure you confirm your return in person and do not use the key drop off. read more

This is Hertz at the Airport. Stay away! Do not give them your business! Terrible! I was charged 44.02 for the car, and come to find out when I checked my credit card statement it was 67.72! I called the Ithaca Hertz at the airport and the representative stated they had to put in 2 gallons of gasoline. I filled the tank!!!! They are very rude at this Hertz location too. This was my second time there and my last! Both times they were very rude at the counter! I am a customer service manager and I give people the benefit of the doubt, but these people are rude. The person I spoke with on the phone said he could do nothing for me at that is the gasoline fee. I can't understand since I filled the tank!!!!!! I have been using Hertz for 15 years and will be changing to Enterprise for my business needs. Please use the Avis at the Ithaca Airport for car rental. Hertz at the airport in Ithaca will give you the worst experience ever! I never complain about anything, but I feel it is my duty to inform the public about how bad they really are at customer service. read more

When I arrived at the counter, they had all the paperwork ready and I walked right out to my car. I left my camera in the car. They looked for it and called to let me know it wasn't found. Later in the day, they called back to let me know they looked again and found it. Not only are they going to send it to me, but the manager offered to send me the photos (I indicated they were important). You don't find this sort of customer service of follow through often. What a treasure to find, especially when you are a road warrior. read more
