However, a week later we received a letter from Budget charging us for EXCESSIVE SOILAGE. We were both shocked by this accusation and called to inquire. We were later sent some pictures from Budget that they used to justify the charges and were literally knocked off our feet. The inside of the rental was almost unrecognizable to the both of us. It looked as if a pig lived in the back seat area of the car. Corn chips were scattered all over the rear floor mats and paper strewn on the floor. This was not the condiction we returned this vehicle on July 7, 2024. The pictures emailed to me were made by them after the fact. That is to say that they made this mess and had the audacity to blame us for it. My wife and I are two mature individuals in our late 60's and would not have done such a thing. However, they have lied and changed us $250.00 for this crime. So with that being said, Stay away from this company as the have no scruples or integrity. Got no correspondence from them confirming the pickup so I began calling the location this morning at 8 when they opened. No answer after about 10 calls so I drove over there from the repair shop to confirm the rental. The "worker" was busy with a personal call that she had on speaker phone. Finally, she rolled her eyes at me and asked what I wanted. I explained about the scheduled pickup. She said something to the effect of, "we ain't not got no cars for a pickup today." and went back to her call. That's about all I needed to hear. If you choose to patronize this business, good luck!

A day before I was scheduled to pick up, I received a call saying that the location had closed, and that there were no cars available within the city limits to honor my reservation. No offer of "We can refund your money" or anything. Just, "That location is closed and there's no car for you. Sorry." I went to the location anyway, just to see if there was anyone I could talk to. Turns out, the location was just a desk inside the Westlake DoubleTree lobby. When I asked the hotel lobby clerk about the Hertz location, she immediately put her hands up and said "We are not affiliated with them. All I know is that something happened with them last weekend, and a bunch of cops showed up, and now their location at our hotel is closed." Then it took two hours of sitting on hold for Hertz corporate on hold to get them to refund my money. There was also a pre-recorded announcement when I called that said I would be charged an additional 5% if I spoke to a "live customer service assistant." Be aware of that inane charge, if you're weighing out different rental car companies. So all in all, a pretty crummy experience with this company, and not just the sketchy (and now-closed) Westlake DoubleTree location. I would recommend people avoid Hertz unless they wanna get Hurtz.

To make this clear, I was not given the incorrect information from the Cleveland location, but it affected my experience due to it. The staff at the Cleveland Alamo location were very friendly and understanding of my situation, and were sure to find me a manager to speak with. The manager I spoke with, Jonathan, was very professional and kind. He also had great customer service and made my poor experience better and because of Jonathan I will continue to rent with Alamo when visiting Cleveland. Thank you Jonathan!

They were very friendly and took the time to help me be comfortable with what I was getting. However, it seems I was limited to only a few cars that were all SUV or bigger; I hate these cars and never reserve them, but to help them out in whatever their situation was, I was willing to sacrifice (especially during Holy Week). The options included a Nissan Rogue and Kia Sorento, but I was not going with the Kia due to the thefts that have been going on. So, I went with the rogue. I was not thrilled with the service given here as the rogue smelled either like marijuana or some other kind of smoke, which was very nauseating, and the gas wasn't even filled up all the way. I don't even know if the tried to get the smell out, but they did fill the tank for me upon my request, and all this took practically a half hour to get me the car. It was a rough time. The way the rogue drove was good, but you could tell it had seen better days -- the inside was seemingly messy and stained throughout; doesn't seem like this car got a lot of attention prior to coming to me for renting. Now you may be asking at this point why did I rate it a 5? When I got back and told the manager, Bryce, what had happened, he was very kind about the situation and took off a good chunk of the bill and a provided a good discount on my next rental, which I did appreciate and was good customer service that you don't see a whole lot anymore these days. I've dealt with some pretty awful car rental places in recent years. So, I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about here. So, what makes a car rental business decent, you ask? Well, in my humble opinion, it comes down to just one word: convenience. Renting a car shouldn't be like pulling teeth. You should be able to book a reservation in advance, receive that reservation upon arrival with a mere license and credit card verification, perform your exterior damage inspection or whatever, and be on your merry way. And that's exactly what Dollar does. Nothing about this transaction was difficult for me. In fact, I was immensely impressed by how quickly they got me a car; less than 20 minutes. The lines weren't even long. As for the car itself, it was fine. The turn-in process was a little strange, due to their normal lane being closed that day (it was a Saturday). But I place the blame solely on the car rental lot itself over Dollar. After getting redirected to the actual turn in lane, all I had to do was leave the keys in the car, grab all my stuff, and roll out. It was that simple. I wish all car rentals went this smoothly. But, man...I could tell you some horror stories! Only minor complaint I have is that Dollar's mobile app still sucks. So, I can't really rank them as "top notch" just yet.
