I had car trouble and could not get to work. I called the silver spring office for a rental, and the agent asked if I wanted to be picked up. He arrived early and updated me before his arrival. I booked my rental online, but changed my mind when I got there. The agent was helpful and made this change quickly. I returned my lease after a few days and the agents were kind,worked together to ensure I left for work on time. People who give bad reviews about the silver spring office are mean and untruthful. This was by far, the best rental office I ever visited. If I could give a 6 stars rating I would. Keep up the Good job. . X read more

I have been renting from this location since I moved to Silver Spring two years ago. At least a dozen rentals at this point. However, my rental for this Christmas was unilaterally canceled "due to volume" just two business days out from my pick up date. I was not offered anything in compensation other than phone numbers of other Enterprise agencies so that I could do my own legwork in rebooking. Unfortunately, I have no further desire to work with a business who I cannot trust to hold a reservation. I'm taking my business to the Hertz across the street from now on. read more

I haven't had any issues with this place until my second time there. I went to pick up my car from the collision center and returned the car at the collision center instead of the original location (Georgia Ave). The guy at the place said that was fine. I put down a $50 deposit and my insurance was supposed to cover the rental. Instead, I went to check my bank account today and Enterprise fraudulently charged me $211 without contacting me! I called them and they said they charged me for gas and several days that my insurance refused to pay for. So let me state this again so you can understand what you're dealing with BEFORE you end up wasting your time here and getting charges that shouldn't show up on your account. This company, Enterprise, instead of calling me and telling me--decided to charge my debit card $211 without my permission. My car insurance policy from Geico says it will cover a rental car up to 30 days! Apparently, my insurance isn't too keen on being flexible with my busy schedule. I am also disabled, with a disabled tag, so I have mobility issues. My advice--don't even bother with this place. I'm officially done using this location. If you do choose this location, don't let them get their hands on your debit or credit card number. Make sure they don't have your numbers stored on their computers when you return the car. And that $50 deposit was never returned--so a total of about $261 was taken from my account. $211 without explanation or authorization. read more

I had booked my rental on-line a week ahead of time to make sure that I was able to get a rental. I had arrived early at the Silver Spring location to pick up the car I was to rent, unfortunately there were 4 other people who had been waiting there before me and I had to wait until they were taken care of first, which took about an hour. This was because they did not have any cars available at 8:00 in the morning. I had plans to get a car and get it checked and be on my way as quick as possible. Not sure if this location is well stocked with cars, but I have used another location and was able to get a car immediately. read more

I had the worst customer experience at this Enterprise then any establishment in a long, long time. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE, EVER! My car broke down in Silver Spring late in the day and I had it towed to a mechanic suggested by a friend. Since it was late in the day, the mechanic suggested Enterprise or Hertz for a rental, and he believed Hertz was cheaper. I walked to Hertz only to find out they were out of all cars except one mid-size car. I wanted something smaller/cheaper so called Enterprise across the street and they had a smaller car available. It was just 4:45pm. First, the counter person in training, a mature African man, skipped over me at the front of the line and asked the man behind me if he could be helped. Maybe it was because he was a 30something black man dressed in a suit and I'm an older white woman looking disheveled and weiry, I don't know. Next, Enterprise refused to beat the Hertz price as they alledged they do for all rentals. Next, they said they couldn't take my personal debit card (I don't have a credit card) or my business debit card (with my company name in addition to my own name) unless I showed them a driver's license (I showed it) and/or pay stubs, Insurance Declaration, or utility bill. Since I don't carry utility bills around with me nor an Insurance Declaration (just the ID card), nor do I have a pay stub being self-employed - the counter person called my insurance company for a Declaration. State Farm sent him a copy of the Identification. Of course, since the mistake happened just at 5pm when they called again, the insurance office was closed. The manager refused to step in and make an exception and outwardly refused to take on my case for the Trainee. I called my business partner to use the other business credit card, but the manager refused to allow the purchase.I then showed her my passport, and my social security card, but she refused to accept those as verification of who I am or what I am. Next, the manager 's subordinate asked if I paid my utilities online and I said yes I did and she said they could verify online that I paid a utility bill. The manager refused to give me access to a computer and outright refused me service. When I asked if she was sure she wanted to refuse me service to rent a car - she said "Yes, go use Hertz." Next, she began to exercise her right to talk badly about me to the customer in front of her as well as the other patrons and employees. Feels like discrimination to me. I waited over an hour only to have the Manager refuse to assist the Trainee or to allow her subordinate show me to a computer for my utility bill. All employees were black and I was the only white person save the man who came in at the last minute. Not a nice experience. No way, ever again. read more

If yelp would allow negative stars, I would give them -5. The man who helped me today did not know what he was doing and the rest of the staff did not help him. Terrible service. I came here 2 days ago to pick up a car and the only thing they were able to give me was this humongous SUV that can sit 7 people. Given, they gave me a discount for it. However, it is so uncomfortable to drive that I felt the need to swap the SUV for a smaller car. I called this afternoon to check if they had a sedan that I can swap with and the lady on the phone said yes. I gave her my information to reserve the car for the swap. I arrived at the location and a young man helped me. I told him that I was there for a car swap and gave him my information. And he told me that there was no sedan available for a swap and that I can wait. Wait for what exactly? He didn't clarify. If there was no car, why tell your customer to wait? I told him about my phone call to their office that took place 45 minutes prior to arriving and that a sedan should have been reserved. He persisted that there was no sedan available. So I asked him if I could swap the SUV at another location, and he said yes. So, I walked out of there with the keys to the humongous SUV. As I was about to pull out of the parking lot, I realized that I should ask the representative to call their branch closer to my home to verify if they had a sedan for a swap. When I made the request, the woman next to him, whom I may have spoken with over the phone earlier, finally helped him. She pointed out that there is another key in a different drawer and instructed him to give that car to me. The car was filthy with sticky fingerprints all over the back seat windows and had cigarette smell inside. The exterior had scratches and the hub cap on one of the wheels is completely damaged. The only good thing about that car is that it is fuel efficient. I told the man about the scratches as he was walking away from the inspection. He told me that he would write it down. Where? I don't know. So, I asked him if he would write it in the receipt, and he said yes. And so, I asked him for a copy of the receipt, but he told me that he'll email me the receipt instead because their printer is not working - it didn't work last Monday when they handed me the SUV and it still does not work today. Basically, their service is very unprofessional. I have to be very specific about everything to get answers and their rep is not well trained. It's been 4 hours now and I still have not received the receipt via email. I'll have to call them tomorrow morning, especially about the existing damages to the car. This is so stressful. read more

We had to rent a car one-way to get back from Deep Creek when ours broke down and had to be left at an auto body shop there. We got back to DC around 8, took the car to the lot, and there was no one there. After circling for a bit trying to figure out what to do with the car, we parked it and took the keys to the building to look for a drop box or mail slot or ... any clues. There was nowhere to leave the keys and no signage explaining what to do, and no information when we called, thinking they might have a "press # for information re: returning cars at night" voicemail. So we left the keys in the car. We called the next morning to make sure they got the car and knew where the keys were. The person who answered said that they'd marked the car returned, our locking up the keys was fine, and he would take care of it. Now, a week later, they're saying they're going to charge us for a locksmith, and, charmingly, hanging up the phone when we try to figure out what changed since that phone call. Note: at no point have they ever explained what we were actually supposed to do with the keys that we were apparently not supposed to leave in the car, because there was nowhere else to put them. So this place is disorganized, incredibly unprofessional, and generally not a good location to do business with. I will say I have rented from Enterprise on numerous other occasions with no issues, but won't be going here again for any reason. read more

Just wanted to commend everyone at this location. I had been trying for a week to switch out my long-term rental after my car was damaged during a wind-storm and was given the run around multiple times until I called the amazing people at Silver Spring. I'm sorry I didn't get everyone's name, but all three people I dealt with could not have been nicer, more professional, and helpful! Took me over half an hour to pick up a one day rental after already checking in. What a waste of time!

Their customer service sucks!!! I called on a Monday 1pm to resolve an issue with a charge on my credit card. A representative who answered the phone told me a manager would call me back. Tuesday 6pm comes no return call. I emailed the branch manager and received no response. I called Wednesday at 5pm to be put on hold for 45 MINUTES by the manager!!! While en-route from work, I made a detour to the branch location just 5 minutes before closing time. As I pull up, the manager finally picks up the phone to tell me that she wasn't able to reach another representative at the collision shop where I originally picked up the car. I told her that's ok because I'm outside of her location. I hang up the phone and walk into the branch. Then, I demanded to speak to the manager. It took a whole minute for the woman at the front desk to identify herself as the manager. I guess she knew I was pissed off by my body language and tone of voice. After 3 minutes of being there, the charge was sent to "Accounting" to be reversed in 7-14 business days. If I don't see a reversal, I will be updating this post. read more

Over many, many years of car ownership, I have rented cars when I have not had complete confidence in my own vehicle. I have rented from National Airport, Union Station and several neighborhood locations. I have learned a lot from this process about how the car rental industry works. I especially like the Silver Spring Enterprise location because I am one Metro stop away and my walking distances at each end are very short. I have found the staff at Silver Spring to be very professional, thoughtful and helpful. I have watched how they work and how they handle a lot of different types of activity, including the limitations of their site, which has very limited parking and neighboring businesses that may call tow trucks. I know that Fridays and Mondays tend to have the highest concentrated usage because of weekend rentals and returns. So, I avoid Mondays and Fridays when I can. I also have learned that inventory at smaller sites is affected by cars being returned or moved from other locations. As many cars as National Airport has, I have had to wait for a SUV there. On my most recent car rental from Enterprise on Georgia Avenue (Silver Spring) , on a Monday (could not be avoided), my reservation was for a mid-size SUV. The vehicle that was available was larger than what I was comfortable with. Two of the ladies, including the manager, remembered that I was the woman who did not like large SUVs and assured me they would find one that would work for me. They did, and I had a vehicle within 30 minutes or so. On a previous rental from this same location, it was pointed out to me that my 5-day reservation was priced at a weekly rental and that I could keep the car for a full week without additional cost. The extra days afforded me greater flexibility and made it easier for me to return the vehicle on time. Now, if I am not doing three days or less, I go for the full week. I have overheard conversations where, after rules and limitations were explained, persons were given accommodation in the name of customer service. These staff members work very hard in a job that cannot be very easy when you have a lot of moving parts and a multitude of personalities. I'm writing this from the waiting room at Enterprise. The staff are nice and the cars are good, but there are consistent management problems. There is always a 20-30 minute wait to pick up and return a car and cars are often not available even with a reservation. I've been waiting 20 minutes and there are 10 other people in the waiting room. Making things worse, staff keeps l making customers wait while they answer the phone. Unless you specifically need to rent from this location, I'd suggest another. read more

I DON'T CARE IF IT TAKES THE GUY THREE HOURS TO DOCUMENT EACH DENT AND DING REGARDLESS OF SIZE (they'll tell you they're too busy), INSIST ON IT OR THEY'RE GOING TO SLAM YOU, NO MATTER WHAT THEY PROMISE. I returned the car IN THE EXACT SAME CONDITION in which it was rented. The manager now tells me that this pre-existing damage is so great that she could never sell the car in this condition and they'll have to file a claim with my insurance. However, because I trusted them (DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!!), it's their word against mine. I think the manager, Leigh, knows her employee made a mistake but she doesn't want her branch to be accountable for damage that they missed on an earlier return. She had my insurance info so they can legally (not ethically, mind you) blame me. She mentioned often that the vehicle couldn't be resold "as is" so this is obviously her priority. Not fairness or customer retention. Here's what happened...We rented the car and it was a recent year but obviously well worn (20,000+ miles). They insisted no other full size cars were available at the time. The very nice employee walked us around the car while chatting with my husband about the Final Four tournament. We noticed many, many small dents and dings--some small, some large. We asked the rep to write them all down and he said "Because there are so many, I won't bother to note anything smaller than a golf ball because you won't be responsible for anything less than that." We asked about another car or even an free upgrade because this one was so trashed but were once again told that nothing was available. We pointed out a few dents that were particularly border line and obvious and he said, "Nope. No dents smaller than a golf ball and no scratches shorter than 5 inches need to be noted. You won't be responsible for any of this." When we returned the car IN THE EXACT SAME CONDITION, that same employee wasn't around. Today's rep tells us not only are we responsible for one of the specific dents the other guy told us not to worry about but we are also responsible for past hail damage to the roof. We pointed out that nothing on the roof was larger than a golf ball and today's rep said, "it's not the size but the number of them and the pattern." WHOA! That's new information! Nobody said anything to us about looking at size and pattern. We were told the policy was a simple golf ball rule of thumb. APPARENTLY NOT!! This info should have been given at the time of rental so we could all be looking for the same thing. We had pointed out the dents on the roof at check out and were told to not worry about them because they were (say it with me folks....no bigger than a golf ball). DON'T TRUST THEIR WORD. This is the worst car rental place I have dealt in my Entire life. I made reservation for 9am and I get there even early but it took them 1:30hrs to help me, this is very ridicules. I have seen same face for the past 2 years but they all luck friendliness and effectiveness. They are too slow and unfriendly and plus they took advantage of customers in what cars to give especially if you are new. I have witnessed this. I have heard this old lady complaining about waiting for 2 days to get her rental car and pretty much every one in there that morning was totally unsatisfied with their services. Making the reservation and going to get the car on the Saturday after July 4th holiday were pretty straightforward, but unfortunately, the car we started to drive off in had a significant mechanical issue, so we immediately returned it. We ended up deciding not to wait for another possible car, as we had to get on the road. They said the'd void the transaction, and we went off on our road trip in one of our older cars, disappointed that we wouldn't have a newer car for the long drive. However, upon our return, we saw that the charges were still "pending" on our American Express card, so we called and found out that we had to deal with it ourselves, that Enterprise was unable to remove the charges themselves. So after 4 phone calls, I had to go down to the location and stand in front of the desk while the agent called AmEx to get the charges reversed. TIME-CONSUMING AND ANNOYING!! I just hope they checked out the problem car before they rented it to someone else! Telling us on Saturday you were reversing the transaction with AmEx and then on Wed. it still isn't done and then I have to connect you to AmEx to do it? That's just sad. To their credt, however, the Enterprise agent was very nice about it, and once I got down there, it only took 20 minutes. She also said that Am Ex and other credit cards sometimes keep the "pendnig" transactions long after the transaction is removed by the merchant. Not sure why? I picked this location due to proximity to my home and Enterprise since they would pick me up - I booked an 0730 pickup directly with this local office. When I called to confirm at 0730 that day, I learned it would be at least 15-20 min - fair enough. Then I called after 30 more minutes and learned it would be another 45min. By that time, I was able to get dropped off at the location, but then STILL had to wait in line to get a car for 45 minutes. I finally left on my trip 2 hours later than planned. True it was a monday morning, but do NOT promise a service that cannot be provided or give a realistic estimate - if I had been told it would take so long for a pickup, I woulda simply gotten there on my own by Uber at 0730. read more

Made a reservation online well in advance, and the website has you thinking you're renting a specific model (not "something similar to this model"). It even gives you choices among different models within the same class, so I did a little research and was deliberate about which model I chose. After it was made, I wanted to clarify something about the reservation, but when I tried to call the branch, I waited on hold for almost a half hour and gave up. Got there, waited almost an hour to receive a car that was not at all the model I'd reserved, and had been sitting out front for at least a half hour. All the while, customers returning rentals walked in and out within five minutes, so they get an extra star for the return process. I finally get in the car, and staring me in the face are the non-smoking stickers, yet it smelled like somebody had just chain smoked a pack of camel unfiltered directly into the AC. Logistics of the location are pretty bad - they're in the corner of a tiny parking lot shared with a 7-11, and cars are double-parked, creating a mess once you finally have your car and are trying to leave. If you're looking for a place to set up a car rental business, you should probably have adequate space to, you know, park cars. Most of my frustrations were of minor consequence, but added up to a picture less than satisfying. I'd probably do business there again, but only out of necessity, as they are one of the only convenient options in the area (and they probably know it). The staff themselves were perfectly pleasant despite being obviously overwhelmed, and it was clear they were doing the best they could with what they had. It seems like a situation of poor management that they don't have the staff and adequate resources to meet the expectations they lay down. read more

I prefer enterprise over all other rental agencies. this location is efficient and friendly. sometimes very busy. One negative is the lack of parking for returning cars. I had to double park. therefore sign out was rushed and I inadvertently left some documents in the car. when I got home and realized my mistake, I called and was told documents would have been discarded. Most efficient car rental experience ever. The moment the repair shop finished taking my car the agent at Enterprise, Charles, was waiting for me with a car that was comparable in size to my vehicle. He learned ahead of time what car I was bringing to the shop and went out of his way to ensure that he had a vehicle large enough for my needs. He was very professional and courteous. I have been a loyal customer of enterprise for a very long time, however while I did not feel the customer service necessarily failed, I feel that the product they provided was not satisfactory. I had wasted an upgrade certificate for a vehicle that was absolutely disgusting. While I have made it a point to inspect the cars myself, I clearly did not realize I would need to check every crevice of the car as I have had a positive experience thus far. The car itself smelled like urine and had stains everywhere. Even when getting into the car I mentioned the smell to the agent and she said yea it's a new cleaner we're using. I figured that the smell would eventually subside so I left. As I used the vehicle and the air/heat it became more apparent that this was not a cleaner but the previous renter clearly soiled them self. I even went as far to purchase air freshners to rid the smell but not even that could penetrate the disgusting lingering urine smell. Additionally there was gum smeared all over the passenger seatbelt and stains every where. I would like to think that the people servicing your vehicles would realize that this isn't a satisfactory product to provide to your customers before placing it back into the lot for rent and if in fact this is a "new cleaner" that you reconsider spending a few extra $$ to providing adequate cleaning supplies. read more

So my husband and I set us a reservation through my insurance when our car was totaled. We called and we obviously didn't have a vehicle so we wanted to see if they'd pick us up. We had to take a uber because they told us they couldn't. Then we finally got there and had to wait a good while to be Seen. You guys really need more staff. Anyways, we drove off in our rental, and that was that. They called my husband a few times to tell him that I needed to call. I called about 5 times and every time I called, I had to hang up because nobody answered the phone! Even tried calling at different times. So I called today and somebody picked up. He tried to tell me that my husband and I got this package that we had to pay an extra 20$ for. We told him that we only wanted what our insurance covered! I was furious. We had to keep the car an extra 3 days so I expected some fees, but when he said 600$, I knew something wasn't right! My husband even remembers me telling him that I didn't want their insurance package. My credit card that I paid with already covered the rental car. I did not mention this to the person helping us because I was ready to get out of there already. I can't believe he charged us for the insurance. We had no idea! I was expecting maybe a 200$ charge, but 600$?? That's insane!! Trying to get it sorted out but so far we are not happy with our services. read more

As a long time customer of Enterprise Rent-A-Car before this location was in existence, I only give this rating because of the constant professional mannerism and behavior of the staff at this location, even though I have noticed change in staff quite a bit. I have always had great experience on that behalf but the wait time for a vehicle (that I already have a reservation for) is utterly ridiculous! I have rented and have been renting from this location for over a couple of years now on a regular basis and Enterprise you have got to do better and STOP under staffing this location. Enterprise Headquarter/Regional office has have to had noticed the spike in business at this location. You need to be more knowledgeable and considerable to your staff and as a company of your stature you should know better as to when there is a slow period when you can use less staff and when its going to be crazy busy, like weekends and Holidays...Duh thats a NO brainer! Please hire more help for this location or I will be forced to take my business else where in the future. Be more considerate to your staff its only but so much they can do! read more

I rented twice from this location. As other reviewers stated, staffing can be short at times so be prepared to wait and show up earlier. They said 7:30 am to 9 am is their busiest time so I avoided going then. My first car smelled so strongly of smoke, it was hard to breathe and I could smell smoke on my hands after driving (even though 2 no smoking stickers were posted on the dashboard). It would have been nice if they deodorized the car before renting it out to me. My second car was much better and detailed well. However it was less modern and did not have a USB phone charger (so bring a car charger if you need it). Besides the wait time, the customer service was good. Everyone I dealt with was friendly. Making a reservation change over the phone was quick and easy. Even though I am a Hertz member, I stayed away from them due to their awful reviews. Reserved my car online and had no problems. Received a phone call the day before my scheduled rental to confirm. Arrived a few minutes late so had to wait about 20 minutes before my car was ready. Wasn't that happy with the state of the car. Had a quarter tank of gas, windows were dirty, and I swear the seat was wet from the rain a day before. I had a four hour drive so the fact that the car didn't have cruise control was a big problem for me. My right leg was very sore on the drive down and back to MD. Anyway when I turned the car in I had extra gas left so the attendant gave me $10 credit which was very nice. Long story short, make sure you arrive early as this location is very busy; make sure when you reserve your rental you request a car with cruise control if you'll be driving a long distance; bring your patience because you could be waiting a while. Other than those small inconveniences everything went well and the staff is very professional and friendly. read more

Placed a reservation with this location 3 months early. Received a confirmation call 24 hours before the day of. Called the day of to confirm pick up location and time. And guess what THEY NEVER CAME OR CALLED. I had to call them on 2 different phones hoping they would pick up. I ended up called the 800# and a wonderful woman helped me, but she couldn't get through. She and I placed a complaint. Why all the complaining, because they caused me to miss a family member's graduation 10 hours away due to not having car. They had the nerve to call me 2 1/2 hours later after the closed and say You needed a pick up. When I expressed my frustration I was placed on hold for 10 minutes.
