I used them to get a second opinion on a brake issue and they seemed thorough and honest. By that I mean, they thoroughly inspected the car, test drove it, took note of the repair work that had been previously done elsewhere, and did not find anything they thought needed fixing, even though they had ample opportunity to do so. There are two "Nicks" in the shop but the younger one gets identified by his co-workers as "Nicholas." He was great. In 15 minutes he gave me a quick estimate for the mashed front end of my 4Runner (failed effort at teaching a 16 year old how to drive in snow). He's the quick run down: - Estimate accurate? Check. - Work flawless? Check. - Started on time? Check. - Finished on time? Check. - Kept updated on the work? Check. I was paying out of pocket so Nick worked with me to keep the costs low. So this is base off a one-off experience, just a heads up. Honestly, the last guy I dealt with (don't remember his name, but he was a burly, lumberjack looking red-head) was very pleasant. Noting that right away. I swung by here last week, because it's literally a 10 minute drive down the road, to do the Maryland state inspection, since we recently moved to the area. They're just easier to get to than the service center for VW's my family has used and that I went to for a flurry of issues in May. So, the negatives: Theirs website was down all of last week; I don't think they renewed the domain with their ISP or whomever, so you'll need to call to make an appointment, which I advise. 2) I messaged them online asking if I could walk in for the inspection. While they got back to me early the next morning saying "yeah, bring it in; we had a cancellation. Call and let the front know, use this number and ask for Nick" followed by what I think is the number for the garage, not the front desk, when I showed up, the people up front seemed tired and a bit confused why I was a walk in, despite my explaining the situation. Whatever. 3) They said they'd call with an update around 11 or lunch, but after a couple hours and the prior interaction, I called myself around 11:15. Again, they seemed confused why I was calling, but then went into the bays and found the tech. Places like this never call you. This is where we get to the positives: the main tech, the redhead mentioned above was really nice and explained why it was gonna fail any inspection (a suspension bushing pad issue and a known Jetta electronics issue with the rear passenger right side door opening from the outside only like 40% of the time (which was never an issue in PA or for the previous owner of the car in my family for DC inspections) offering to give me an estimate. I had things to do and I knew they'd find other things they deemed an issue (always the case with their ilk for me). To leave, you have to go around the back of the building and turn onto the side road. But, that way was blocked by a car they were going to pull into one of the repair bays. Don't block your own exit. Perfectly fine place to go for car service, just didn't blow me away on first impression and the reviews of them are effusive. read more

Burnt Mills Auto Body fixed a leak in my car roof. I'd taken it to two different windshield places and had the windshield swapped out and the roof still leaked. I own a 2004 Chrysler 300 M that I got used. I am very attached to my car and this is the one time I was ready to get rid of it. When the guy at Safelight finally told me they'd just have to give me my money back because he just couldn't fix the leak I wanted to cry. And then the gentlemen at the Shell Station in White Oak (also very good guys) referred me to Burnt Mills. They took my car right back and within an hour had the problem located and fixed. They also shampooed the carpets and went over the nonporous surfaces so that I would not suffer from dampness and mold. Then, at my request, he went around the outside of the car and minimized the appearance of some dents and scratches I had obtained by unfair circumstance (who puts a cement pole so close to the next one!), giving the car a very presentable finish. Saturday it rained all freakin' day, but your's truly was snug as a bug. It actually took the gentlemen there two days to diagnose the problem. He said if he could do it in a day, he wouldn't charge me, to just bring him a case of Budweiser (hey don't judge, I've done less for a glass of wine.), unfortunately, it did take two days and I had to pay him - under $150 for the whole job (YEEES!!!). I was so happy with the deal I got I went back today with a 6 pack of Budweiser today. I think it's the only time I've seen that man smile. read more

Darn it! why are things always too good to be true!? Thought these guys were going to be my go-to shop since they're right down the street from me, but I guess my search will have to continue. I was gifted a car by my dad and brought it to Burnt Mills Auto Body to get MD state inspection done. They charged me $800 to do a bunch of work and I was okay with that since the car is pretty old. The downside is that they ran a diagnostic and determined I had some codes that needed to be rectified. They told me I could come back at some point to have the other issues fixed since they wouldn't affect state inspection. Fast forward 4 months and I now need an emissions inspection. My car still has a CEL on and I know what the issues are because 1#: they already ran the codes a few months earlier and 2#: I have my own diagnostics tool that provides the codes as well. I brought that information down to the shop today to get a smoke test done, along with a laundry list of stuff that needs to be fixed as well. I walked into the shop and there was a guy behind the counter on the phone and another old man (we'll call him mr. grinch) fiddling with the toilet or sink in the bathroom. With the water running loudly he asks me what I need and I tell him that I have a car that has some stuff that needs to be worked on. His response "HUH??". well sir, you can't hear me because the sink is blasting right next to you. So he finally wisens up and turns the sink off. We walk over to the counter and I explain that I have a small evap leak per codes thrown during my diagnostic. He says "well I'll need to rerun the diagnostic myself and that with the smoke test is $120". Me: But sir, I already ran diagnostics and know that I have an evap leak, can we do just the smoke test so we dont have to rerun the diagnostic? Grinch: Ya but that's going to be $120 too. (What??? first you quote me $120 for two services and then when I tell you I dont need both services because I've already done one, you tell me that only one service is the same price?) I might have laughed snarky but I told him that I already knew it was a smoke test. He proceeded to berate me at the counter and asked "DO YOU WANT TO TELL ME HOW ELSE TO DO MY JOB?!" No, old man grinch, I don't. But I do want to save money on services I don't need (as most customers do), and I do know my vehicle enough to know which services I need. vice ones I don't. I told mr. grinch that I was not going to be needing their services after all seeing as how I didn't trust them to do the right thing when working on my car, if they can't even conduct themselves in a professional manner as a customer service representative. Mr. Grinch must have gotten the point because he shut right up (a huge relief to me) and sat there wild eyed as if I had just said something he had never heard before in his 150 years of working as a car mechanic. He might own the shop, he might know what he's talking about, but I was acting very cordially the entire interaction and don't appreciate random outbursts of anger regardless of the cause. Sadly I won't be returning to this shop. I won't bring back my Shelby GT350, which I know they're excellent in handling according to numerous forums. I won't recommend them to anyone I know even though they have rave reviews. I can't. I hope old man winter gets a reality check and at some point learns to control that temper, I hear stress can lead to heart problems and no one needs that. read more

I suspect they wrote their own good reviews here, because this place is full of crooks and incompetent mechanics. CROOKS!! I went there because of the reviews, but THIS WAS A MISTAKE! My car's front end was damaged in an accident and I took it there to be repaired under the insurance. There are very nice, friendly, but it's the wolf in sheep's clothing trick. After I picked up my car from being "fixed" I noticed that the outside temp gauge wasn't working. I knew they had replaced it, so called them up and they said to bring it back the next day. So I had to make another trip and take another day off work. They never fully admitted, but it had been improperly (or not at all) installed and they fixed it the 2nd time around. Two weeks later, I noticed that there was now a HUGE oil slick on my driveway where I park. I hadn't noticed it before because it is on a hill and I'm always looking back when I leave and can't see over the hood when pulling up. We're talking HUGE oil slick, so much so that it was probably getting dangerous to drive my car! I called them and they said to bring it in again. Yes, another day missing work. They hadn't sealed something properly with the engine which caused the big leak. They are nice, but seem pretty incompetent, And if that wasn't enough.... The following week I bought an older used car for my teen driver and took it there for the Maryland State inspection. They quoted me that it needed around $3,000 of repairs before they would approve it!!! And get this-- The car has been slightly lowered but there is no MD law about lowering a car (the law addresses raising a car). When confronted about what the law says, they guy said, "well it was a judgement call, not what the law states." WHAT?!?! So you want me to get $3K of work done at your shop based not on the law, but a judgement call?!?! Additionally, they failed it because they said the tint was too dark. MD says you have to be getting 35% light coming through. I took it to a professional tint shop to be tested and they said it had 37% light coming through--2% MORE THAN THE BOTTOM LINE, SO BURNT MILLS LIED ABOUT THAT TOO. And then--get this--to their dismay, I raised the car at NO cost, no parts, nothing, bought new tires and had an alignment done for a small amount of money, SOMEWHERE ELSE, and when I called them up 5 days before the last day to do the reinspection, SUDDENLY THEIR INSPECTOR IS GONE AND WON'T BE BACK UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEK!!! They said they would need to do a full inspection after 30 days, which was not my fault but theirs!!! YOU'VE GOT TO BE FLIPPING KIDDING ME!!!! And now I will have to pay to have it all redone--which I'm CERTAIN THEY WILL FIND SOME REASON TO FAIL IT! WOW! Will update this after the inspection and likely be filing a lawsuit too. BEWARE--DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP, YOU WILL REGRET IT AS I HAVE. I WILL BE REPORTING THEM TO THE STATE AUTO SAFETY COMPLAINTS BOARD. read more

I came here after a little fender bender based on a recommendation from a mechanic that I use. Nick and Eric were nice and professional and walked me through my options after my accident. Being a woman that knows little about cars, it's easy to take advantage of that at a body shop. I feel that Burnt Mills were honest. They kept me up to date on proper time frame and even asked if I needed assistance to get to the car rental location. I came here the first time because my front windshield wipers weren't working. Nick Jr. looked at my car, said a part was broken, ordered the part and fixed it. He was friendly, courteous, and professional, so I thought this shop was great. I came a few months later because my air conditioning wasn't working. An older gentleman looked at it, then came back and said it still didn't work after he charged the air compressor, therefore, I needed a new one. He told me this would run close to $1000 for the new part. Two things happened after I left. First - the day after I had my car diagnosed, the alarm system would go off at random times, from every 15 minutes to every 3 hours. I took my car to a different shop to fix this problem and was told that the hood alarm switch was misaligned Luckily, they were able to fix it (at a cost, although luckily it wasn't too much). Second - Instead of purchasing a $1000 brand new air compressor, I found one used for $100, then took it to a different shop to install (this took several hours). When they did, they said my A/C still wasn't working and it was never the problem. They re-diagnosed the problem and found an electrical wiring issue (demonstrated to me by using an alternate power source). This was fixed but unfortunately I was still charged for the time installing a part that wasn't even broken to begin with. I asked, if I had brought my car to their shop with the a/c problem, would they have been able to tell that it wasn't the compressor? I was told that yes, to properly diagnose they would need to look at all the components to figure out exactly what was wrong. My second encounter with Burnt Mills cost extra time and money, and caused a great deal of inconvenience and stress. THANK GOODNESS I did not order a $1000 part from them! They are nice to work with, but my impression now is that they are incompetent and I will not be taking my car here again. read more

I just got my truck back from Burnt Mills and couldn't be happier with the finished product or the customer service. My brand new 2016 work truck was ran into by a BULLDOZER on a job site. My first phone call was to Burnt Mills, where I knew they could handle the job. Nick Sr answered the phone and immediately said BRING IT IN WE CAN FIX ANYTHING. Nicky took over the job from that point and handled everything with the commercial insurance claim from start to finish. The claim was processed, parts were ordered, and truck was fixed in no time at all. They made the process painless and made my truck look like new. They even worked with me around the weather and my snow plow equipment to ensure I didn't miss any work due to not having my truck. Their body work is AMAZING. My new car got hit 2 weeks ago, and when I got the car back I was so impressed. Looks brand new. And Nick dealt directly with the insurance company so I didn't have to deal with the hassle. I remember after the first few times of taking our car there for various work, I stopped by on a rainy day because my windshield wipers weren't working. In my experience, great customer service & trustworthy mechanics & auto body shops are hard to come by. After coming to the area, it took a few months for me to find a mechanic that I liked & trusted -- Hoffmaster Auto Care. When my neighbor hit my car, I asked Steve Hoffmaster for a recommendation and he sent me to Burnt Mills Auto Body. Wow. Hands down one of the best customer service experience I've had in any industry. Geico wanted me to go to Darcars, which is their "Gecio-Approved Location", but after reading so many awful reviews, I was too scared to take my precious baby there. The big thing for me was that I was worried that if I went to Burnt Mills, I would end up having to be the middle-man between Geico and them, since they're not one of their approved locations. Even worse, I was worried that Geico wouldn't agree to pay the amount that Burnt Mills charged for the repair. Burnt Mills Auto Body took care of absolutely everything. Everything. From explaining to me how to coordinate the rental with Enterprise, to dealing with Geico directly, they made it very clear to me that I was in good hands and they were going to take care of me. They say talk is cheap, but the way they took the time to answer all my questions and reassure me over the phone, it really put me at ease. The fact that they actually followed through with all their promises was just icing on the cake. Alright, I'll try to finish up this review. Couple other things: 1) Geico's original estimate only accounted for about 2/3 of the damage. Had I gone to Darcars (their approved location) they would have just done the work Geico told them to, and I wouldn't have gotten the full repair. Burnt Mills actually called the Geico adjuster to come back out and explain the additional damage, to make sure they covered the high-quality repair. 2) Geico's orginal estimate was obviously as cheap as possible. They wanted to install a used mirror. Again, Burnt Mills made sure that Geico paid for the brand new mirror. 3) Every single time I spoke with them, everyone (Eric, Nick Jr., Nick Sr.) was incredibly patient, friendly, and helpful. I'm a business owner myself, so I especially appreciate great customer service when I see it. 4) My car is back in my hands and looks gorgeous. Can't tell that it was ever in an accident whatsoever. A friend at work at the FDA White Oak recommended Burnt Mills Auto Service. Since then, my wife and I have taken our cars here (for auto REPAIR, not BODY WORK) most every time we needed work for five years from 2008 to 2013. We had a higher mileage Buick Le Sabre and Mercury Villager for awhile and then a Toyota Sienna we bought with 80k miles. Nick Sr. and Nick Jr., the owners have never tried to add any work on, their completed work has always been excellent, the prices were always on the low end of what could have been charged. One time, when the work was an adjustment to the fuel/air mix, Nick Sr.'s first fix (which was the cheaper option of possible fixes) did not work, so he fixed it with the next try ... FOR NO MORE CHARGE. Now that is integrity. We always dropped off our vehicles 6AM and picked up after 4PM, and they always got it done. Our old Buick and our Mercury needed work several times each. The Sienna has been so reliable that the only thing they've had to fix was the motor speed and take the "check engine" light off. So, in the last couple years we hardly have gotten to see these guys. Now we moved to Frederick and we had to find someone closer to home because we don't drive into Silver Spring to work usually. read more

Preface: I am very picky about my car (IE. my baby). My attention to detail for my car is somewhere between enthusiast and obsessed. I am the guy who requests "No Wash" whenever my car visits the shop because I am worried that residual dirt in their towels might cause swirl marks. If you can identify with me, then I hope that my review speaks to you on a similar level. About 2 weeks ago, my parked car was hit in a parking lot. A hit and run, no note or letter left. The damage was the dent about the size of half a basketball, but fortunately isolated to my rear bumper. After filing a claim through my insurance company, I was given an option to use one of my providers' "approved vendors". The advantage of this was that the shop would deal with the insurance company directly in regards to billing. However, I was wary that shops would receive benefits from the insurance company for doing inexpensive work or providing dishonest services. Nonetheless, I am a busy person so I decided to at least explore this time saving alternative. I did my preliminary online research of review sites (Yelp was great for this!) and local forums, I decided to give several shops a phone call. After calling Burnt Mills and speaking with Eric, I knew that this is where I would bring my car in for an estimate. He was very helpful, answering numerous questions about how claims are handled through my insurance company (apparently BM's has participated in the program for many years now) and proved to be very knowledgeable on the acquisition of parts and work to be performed. I visited Eric for an estimate one early morning before work. They were shorthanded at the time and could not provide the written estimate on the spot. My options were to either come back later to pick it up in person, or have it faxed to me. Unfortunately, emailing was not an option. I chose to have it faxed to my company office, although this was not ideal, since it is received by the copy room and passes through several administrative personnel before it reaches me, but I digress... I made my appointment for Monday of the following week. The work entailed replacement and repainting of a the bumper, along with the associated clips to keep it in place. It was estimated to take 5 days. The weekend prior to dropping off my car, Hurricane Sandy's visit into our DMV area became very imminent. I began to question whether or not I should keep my appointment, or if the shop would even be open. Was keeping my appointment worth the risk of leaving my car outside through the hurricane? Monday morning rolls around and I called Burnt Mills to see if they were open. They were, torrential downpour, violent winds and all. They assured me that the shop was probably one of the safer places to keep the car considering that there were no trees around, BUT, they would be glad to reschedule if I wanted to. I decided to brave the storm and drop it off. As I caught a ride from the shop to Enterprise (they have an arrangement for pick-up and drop-off with the Wheaton Enterprise location by the way), I sent my wishes to whomever was listening that I had chosen the right place and that Burnt Mills as well as my car would survive the storm. I received a call on Thursday afternoon from BM notifying me that the car was finished and ready for pickup. I was IMPRESSED that they acquired a new bumper and found the time to paint and mount it in less time than they originally estimated. And this is while Hurricane Sandy risked life and limb for 2 of those days! Today is Friday and I just picked up my car this morning. The paint is matched perfectly! The clear coat is as smooth as glass. The finish is impressive, with no imperfections or orange peeling effect. Even as the critical person that I am, I really have to strain to see the difference between the (old) rear quarter panel and the (new) bumper. In fact, the difference I see may be attributed to aforementioned fresh clear coat. I am happy and relieved that I finally found a good body shop. They are fast and efficient, friendly and honest. I am so satisfied that I intend to get my severely peppered front bumper repainted here, something that I hadn't considered before because I was not willing to put hundreds of dollars down on the potential of poor color matching. It goes without saying that I will be back for any insurance claim work. read more

I brought my car to fix a small dent and scratches on front bumper. The paint the shop used to fix is not a good color match and they are refusing to repaint. the manufacturer's code for the paint of my accord is NH-603P, Nick is saying they do not use Honda paints, they just mix the paint at the shop, no wonder it does not match. I left the car at the shop right now, refused to pay until repainted. read more

I can't praise this place enough; yesterday I came by expecting at least a $350 quote (what I'd received from a different auto body shop) on a dent in the rear of my car; a worker in the lot came over, reached inside the trunk, and fixed the dent just by pushing out from the inside. Saved me $$$ by fixing a partially detached bumper and parking sensor on a 2018 MB that the dealer would likely have replaced instead of fixing at major expense. Old school shop, with a bit of attitude, but they know their stuff and don't treat you like an idiot if you express an interest in their work. They took pictures of repair work on the interior of the bumper before it was put back together to show me what they did. These guys are great. read more
