It was kind of last minute, so we weren't sure we would even be able to get a rental. This location took EXCELLENT care of us. The owner, Sergei was patient with us, and worked hard to get us in a comfortable car. He also took the added step in going over gas mileage, and gave us a choice between two vehicles that were comfortable AND efficient-since we would be driving through mountains and hadn't considered this! The car was VERY clean, tires were good, and as he said, it had great mileage! The woman that was there the day we picked up was super friendly. She went over everything so there would be no surprises, which was appreciated! Great service by this team! Thank you for saving our spring vacation! I had a really disappointing experience at the Avis location in Fairview Heights. I was denied a…read morerental because I was using a debit card, and the staff told me it was due to their "soft credit check" policy. What makes this especially frustrating is that I rented from Avis in San Diego just a month ago using the same debit card without any issues. The inconsistency between locations makes it difficult to know what to expect as a customer. If this policy varies by location, that should be made much clearer before people arrive to pick up their reservation. I understand businesses have policies, but consistency and clear communication are important. I rearranged my plans based on my reservation, only to be turned away at the counter. I left feeling frustrated and disappointed. I hope Avis does a better job of standardizing its policies across locations or, at the very least, clearly communicating any location-specific requirements before customers arrive.

I gave her my debit card and ID, not realizing Budget did not accept debit cards. She threw my cards on the desk back at me and said they didn't accept debit cards. I then asked. Upon my return will I be able to rent a car that was reserved. She told me, " You'll take whatever I give you." At this point I'm becoming agitated with this bad customer service. So I replied, "Well, I did reserve a car for a reason, I don't need a truck or anything else." She said again, "You'll take whatever I give you." I told her her customer service skills sucked and I doubt if I will return that day or any other day. She told me to leave then and she didn't care one way or the other. If you have a weekend rental they automatically charge you for the days they are closed. I had a one day rental pick up Friday and returning Saturday for $53. I returned the car on time. Monday I get a receipt for $168. It's almost impossible getting through to speak to someone to get it resolved. The first time it happened I had to go in because I couldn't get anyone on the phone. This is now the third time it has happened and it's ridiculous. Hertz you need to fix this.

Then to go pick it up the location was annoyed I even came in after the 1-800 help desk told me I should not be told that & just go get it! The worker reluctantly set me up with the car that was holding for me. And made sure to say "for future reference" my response was I Will Not Be Back. I was the bigger person & ended on a good note by squashing my anger & making a joke. I even apologized . I cannot be rude ever... I ended with a car, so I guess that's a win??
