Alright, so my Supercharged Z engine blew up. I contacted my tuner, let them know, then got ghosted. It makes you feel like you want to sell everything and never look back. This won't be about that though. This will be about going supercharged, except, doing it right this time. Through the spectacular service that Eugene Turkov and his shop Enthusiast Auto Care has to offer. Communication My experience with tuners is that you call them, leave a voicemail, and wait for a reply, if at all. However, Eugene is the only one that picks up immediately or replies within the hour. Multiple times, Eugene was able to guide me through crucial concerns over the phone: switching from 91 to E85, diagnosing a fuel / exhaust leak, and addressing a check engine light denoting lean conditions. Just recently, I was having issues with my car turning off while driving. I texted Eugene and he promptly gave me a call to troubleshoot it over the phone. That same day, he was able to take my car in and fix the issue. A faulty MAP sensor. Tuning Services This supercharged Z is my daily driven vehicle, so I want to make sure that no issues occur during normal day-to-day driving. With Eugene's road tune, we were able to address knocking issues that occurred during red lights, stop signs, and in traffic. I assume that this would have gone unnoticed with a dyno tune. He also programed a flex-fuel option so that I could drive my car anywhere, without worry of what type of gas I need to put. The car is primarily on E85. It starts without any issues, cold or hot. Driving feels as if stock during lower RPMs. However, you can truly feel instant power once you push the pedal in. And it's smooth. You can feel the boost rising as you go through higher RPMS. Considering the cars I raced, I should be in the high 400s to the low 500s, with the conservative tune. I'm surprised people do not talk about his flames. I am throwing 1 to 3 foot long flames! When mentioning it, he said that he could stop them by adding code to the tune. Nah, I'm keeping them. Mechanical Service Eugene looked at every aspect of my car when I first brought it to his shop. He sent me pictures of slight precipitation in the supercharger fluid and oil, rodent damage, misplaced inner panels, repainted exterior and more. He also sent pictures to update me on the motor swap progress. It's been 6 months and 5k miles since the motor swap, and still no issues. The oil looks almost new. He pulled apart the blown engine and found bent rods which most likely occurred by turning off knock sensors. California Laws Alright, we all know that going supercharged in Cali is becoming more and more difficult. I want to thank Eugene for helping me acquire the proper documents for the car; from smog to VIN verification and the CARB legal paperwork associated with the Stillen supercharger. Gotta give a huge thank you to Eugene Turkov. He is extremely knowledgeable being a Nissan Master Technician and a genuinely nice guy. He didn't have to help me. I'm not a customer of his. I've never even spoke to him before. As I was getting home on Thursday night. My Z basically shit itself. Barely ran. All I had to go on was a code p1093. Not a common code on Z's. He spoke with me for hours and with the help of him and the FSM he was pretty sure my VVEL actuator motor (that black motor on the back of the drivers side cylinder head) had died. Today, not even 48 hours later, the car is back up and running great. Swapped in the motor off of another low mile Z and she fired right up. Without him I would of been throwing probably thousands of dollars at the car spit balling what could of been the problem. With his help I did the right fix on the first try. I have been cruising the Infiniti G35 forums since 2010 and Eugene is well respected in the Infiniti/Nissan community due to his instructional videos and informative posts. So when I had a bad coolant leak, I knew exactly who I wanted to take my G35 to. First off, Eugene is a great communicator. After sending him a message on yelp with pictures of the leaky hoses, he responded back in minutes and we were talking on the phone shortly after that. Second, with just the pictures, he was able to describe the exact fix and what tools would be needed, since I was thinking about doing it myself. When I decided to put it in an expert's hands instead, Eugene agreed to pick up my car in the South Bay and drive it back to his shop in Concord. He even has a loaner car, if needed. While he was taking care of the coolant leak (replacement of coolant, heater hoses, radiator hoses, and thermostat), I decided to also take care of the following: - Spark plug Replacement - Throttle Body Cleaning - Air Filter Replacement - ECU Upgrade - Rear Differential Oil and Bushings Replacement - Brake Fluid Flush/Replacement - Transmission Oil Replacement - Power Steering Flush/Replacement A side note about the throttle body cleaning: I read so many stories online about idle troubles after a throttle body cleaning, but when we encountered that same issue, Eugene already knew an ECU upgrade would solve the problem a majority of the time, which in my case it did. On day one of the maintenance, I was there in-person and Eugene took the time to explain the repairs we were doing and why were doing them, which is way more than a normal dealership could offer. On the second day, I wasn't able to make it to the shop, but Eugene kept me informed with various pictures of the maintenance he was doing real-time. I need to start out by saying this is the most helpful, friendly, informative mechanic/tuner I have ever had the pleasure of talking to, the amount of information and knowledge gained from this experience is amazing. I was in need of a tuner as I purchased a fast intentions high flow cat and was having p2096 errors, knowing i ordered the fast intentions exhaust as well( should be delivered by the 23rd of this month) I knew I needed to have the car tuned so that its utilizing my new parts efficiently. Our first interaction was actually when he was on vacation, even out in the woods biking he was in constant communication and super helpful in educating me in what a remote NON-dyno tune is and how it will help me the overall performance of my car and why I should get the tune started now vs waiting until I had all the parts together. Not only did he give me more info than I ever thought about during that call, he also offered to back up my ecu so that if anything should ever go wrong we can flash it back ( not something most tuners will offer). Back up process was fairly simple, He shipped me a loaner ecu ( included the ecutek, ecutek stickers and a free ecutek t shirt) , once i got it i shipped him mine and he taught me how to do my first flash to the loaner. Once I had my ecu we began to log my drives and have me log different scenarios ( 3rd/4th gear pulls, throttle pulls, mexico style driving , daily traffic etc...) to get my knocks removed and ignition timing perfected across all bands and in all scenarios. I would do runs /drive around town and upload my logs he would adjust accordingly have me reflash and have me do more runs and logs. The most impressive part is actually the education. I've learned more than I ever wanted to learn and I'm thankful for it. I can now read my logs and know exactly was being adjusted and locate knocks and improper timing and how to properly use the ecutek graphs to compare different variables. I would look at logs and send him screenshots to confirm what I was seeing and he would educate me right there and even expand on what I was asking. I've learned what AFR is, knock, detonation, ignition timing and so much more. After about 2.5GB of logs ( 17 tunes) did we finally get it to where its perfect. At this moment we will just be doing maintaince/ seasonal tunes to make sure my car is optimal all year around. Compared to stock I can say this car is 100% different in response, I press the gas and I just go there's no revving, no huge rpm spike then drop. When I'm cutting and weaving through traffic I swear it's like I'm a hot butter knife and the butter just gets out of my way..i can drive break and reaccerlate without any hesitation or lag. It just does what I want it to. Stock was annoyingly slow and boring to drive. It's super smooth now and oddly scary how easy it is for me to hit high speeds without even knowing. He can give you different maps and features for flames and what not ( I opted out. I'll leave that to the kids) if you would like. There are plenty of videos of his tunes shooting flames on par with Elon musk's flamethrower. I know people will ask for the dyno graph, but I'll get it on a dyno once I can find a awd dyno in houston ( I'm not disabling features to turn it into rwd, I got a awd I want a awd dyno) or have time for a 3 hour drive to killeen (or motorsports)to get it done. I'm for sure hitting @krmotorsports at the end of the month to get offical numbers once the full cat back exhaust is installed. George Costanza, Seinfeld Da Scene: The warranty is up on my QX70 in the next 1000 miles. I've been taking it into the dealership in Oakland every 3500 miles for the past year in hopes of making sure any major issues would be identified and rectified before the warranty is up. They are NICE guys in the service dept., but the actual repairs, well not so nice. I had it in for squeaky brakes 3 times and finally had a front brake job done... still squeaky. Frustrated, I was determined to find a shop to resolve the problem and give me the straight dope on the status of the vehicle before the warranty expired. ENTER EUGENE. After a quick phone consult on the above, I brought the QX70 in for an oil change and inspection. Da Service: I was there for a total of 2 hours, and learned more than countless hours of Infiniti forums, dealership interactions, and manual reading ever got me. Eugene from the get go was not just personable & knowledgeable but communicates on a "real" level - honest w/ just the right amount of technical detail. He stepped me through the oil change, then the brake inspection (and shim repair), then the multi-point check. What the dealership could not solve after multiple visits and a brake job, Eugene identified and resolved in 1/2 an hour. Let me first start off by saying Eugene at Enthusiast Auto Care is a rare individual left in the car tuning community. I had the pleasure of working with him remotely this weekend in reprogramming and updating the software on my Infiniti. I was unable to get into my local dealership for several weeks and needed to re-flash and update my ECU as per cleaning the throttle bodies they didn't like the extreme air volume change. The car idle was erratic and made the car un-drivable. I searched around online for a solution and stumbled upon some references to this shop in California that can either mail out your ecu or have it remotely worked on. I was very hesitant as i really thought i was going to need something more serious done to get the car running right again. I emailed Eugene last weekend and explained what had happened, within no time he responded back with a simple yes he can fix it. I called him up and ordered a programmer from Enthusiast Auto Care. It showed up Saturday afternoon, Eugene texted me when i was good to go on getting things setup on my end. Fast forward to the following day Sunday evening Eugene called me up to get things wrapped up. Keep in mind he is in California and I am in Nebraska. I plugged my computer into the car via the programmer. He logged into my laptop via some simple remote desktop software and proceeded to get the ECU first updated to proper firmware. That went without a hitch. Next he did the forced relearn of idle air volume which failed, I was worried things were worse than initially thought, but a few clicks and a reset later, he had the car idling back down to within stock parameters. In less than 30 mins he had my car running better and now the throttle response is so much more enjoyable as well! I would of been at least another week out before i would of even gotten into the dealership. I know i would of gotten the run around about needing new parts as this is the common symptom of the forums and this issue. This is all it needed. He is a friendly, very knowledgeable automotive professional with a good reputation on the forums (which again is how I found out about this resolution!) and his precise expertise lives up to the hype in the real world. First off I want to thank Eugene for reaching out to me through a facebook g37 group that we were both in. Surprisingly we both went to the same High school so hit it off right away. Started talking about tuning and I told him my g37 was already "tuned" via ecutek. He then asks me for the logs that I was suppose to have of my car. I didn't have any. I was only given a receipt and a single dyno pull graph by the other "master tuner" that previously helped me with my car. Needless to say, I booked an appointment with Eugene literally the very next day. First off, Eugene is too smart. He can literally go on and on about our nissans and infinitis. Unlike the other tuners and shop owners, he allows you to see everything he does and involves you in the tuning process so not only does your car get tuned properly, you learn about your car as you go. Went into his shop and we pulled up my previous logs and how my car was running. Before we even started he told me he could already hear knocking from the engine of my G. Not a good thing at all. We spent a lot of time focusing on getting rid of knocks because that damages the engine of the car and nobody wants that. We then focus on fuel to air ratio and overall health/condition of my vehicle. By correcting the problems I had in the car allowed us to focus on power. Power, power, power. It's something we all want more of in the car community. I wanted my car to deliver the most power possible without having to compromise longevity of the vehicle. We did just that. Right off the bat as I drove off I felt throttle response was more sensitive. Tapped the gas a little and it felt like the car was WANTING to go. Before I felt the car didn't want to move in some instances. Felt slow and heavy. Now, still being heavy, it feels a lot faster. I didn't know at first driving normally if there was any difference in power but I slapped the car in sport manual mode, hit 7k rpms in 1st gear and the car took off. Huge shoutout to Eugene. Lent me a laptop to continue logging the car and tuning it without having to travel to Concord every time. I own a 2008 g37s and was looking for a tuning service for my pending Stillen supercharger install. I was looking around at options and came across EAS, I am very happy that I did. Eugene was able to swap my older ecu for a newer one in order to support Ecutek for a reasonable price and since has made a great custom calibration for my car that has transformed it. He was also helpful when I needed some troubleshooting almost 24/7. Compared to my past experiences with other shops/ tuners are hard to reach and not very responsive. The name of his shop is perfect because he is a true car Enthusiast and really does care about giving you a great product and service to your vehicle. I recently bought a used 07 G35 Sedan, and knew there were some things to tend to. Some research led me to Eugene, and wow, it was the best decision I've made to come to him. That's mainly thanks to the other people here who've posted a Review for Eugene. I just visited Eugene, yesterday, for the "Rear Axle Click", on both sides! How lucky am I?! Eugene performed the task with precision and took his time. And he did the whole 'explaining as he goes', which was perfect as a customer who wanted to know. I had one axle that seemed to have some corrosion, not giving way to Eugene's attempts. But all he did was keep at it and carefully, he got it out. While getting the Rear Axle Click fixed, (BTW, no more clicks! on both sides! Thanks Eugene), he checked my battery condition, and turns out it's time to change it. I had also mentioned that I hear brake squeaks, but wanted to have him take a look at it another day as it was very late in the day. Eugene did a quick assessment on the rear rotor, and wow, it's bad... :-( So anyways, rambling on.., I'm coming back to Eugene with no hesitation. What I like: - Eugene, who's the both the owner and mechanic at Euthusiast Auto Care, is a very friendly and transparent guy. When you pull into his shop, he'll attend to you right away. - Eugene will tell you exactly what's he's doing as he works on your car. In fact, you can watch the whole time and even assist in doing some of the work if you're up for it. At the end of the day, I felt like I left understanding how my car works better and what to keep an eye out for to make sure it stays in good condition. I've been trying to figure out how to fix this issue for over a month now and NO ONE could seem to help me solve it. Not even the master mechanic from the Nissan dealership! Quick review on my tuning experience with Eugene Turkov from Enthusiast Auto Care... Eugene's customer service is some of the best I have ever experienced. He's attentive, patient, and helpful with anything related to our car wether it has anything to do with the tune, or not. He took the time to talk to me on the phone last year about what I was looking to achieve from the car and what the best setup of performance parts would be for me to achieve the best everyday drive-ability. I then went on my journey of modding the exhaust, getting it to sound right, and then I made the ecutek and tuning purchase from Eugene in the spring. Now for the tune. The car is now on its 10th revision and Eugene is just about done. It is a night and day difference. The first thing I noticed was that the throttle became linear without that silly dead spot it has from the factory. Because Eugene focuses so much on all of your driving the car behaves perfectly in all conditions. The power is super smooth everywhere in the rev range without a single surge or dip in power anywhere. It's simply amazing! Just to add... October 11, 2017. I'm writing this again. I got my car tuned by Eugene on September 2017 using Ecutek. Before tuning, I had data logged my car and found 11 degrees of knock from the factory. I used to hear engine noise once in a while when driving. It was all stock. After Eugene tuned my car. I did dyno the car and verified the knock by data logging. The knock was significantly reduced to 2 degrees and the car drove very smooth across the power band. Since my car is a manual gear, whatever knock I get is because I'm now driving on high gear at low speeds. It's driver error. Now I have also got modes on my car. I can change modes while driving too. I've got stock mode, sports mode and eco mode. I can change how the car drives at the press of a button. That's just cool. Eugene is essentially a god. I reached out to Eugene for tuning on my 370z, through recommendation of forum members. Initially, I wasn't sure if I should go with uprev or ecutek, but he broke it down for me that ecutek was much better. Tuning procedure is straight forward, you setup ecutek on your car and begin data logging. Initially I did some pulls 3rd/4th gear to get an idea on how the car was doing as a baseline, then made adjustments on every revision to improve the performance. Once we had the 'pulls' dialed in, it was time to tune the car where it is being driven normally. This is what separates Eugene from other tuners. Other tuners will tune your car based on pulls only or on a dyno only, this is where the engine is at or near max load. But others do not tune the engine where it is under a light to moderate load so while your car may make lots of power on a pull, it may run poorly while it is being driven normally. Eugene makes sure to address these areas of the map to ensure that under normal conditions the car is running just as good as it does under hard conditions. Ecutek's fuel, ignition, etc maps are very high resolution and most tuners do not take advantage of this as it allows you to finely dial in your car in nearly all driving conditions. Eugene will also answer any questions you have during the tuning process, he also explains how to read your datalogs so that you can see exactly how your car is behaving. Overall, the experience was amazing and everything went smoothly. Will definitely have him tune my next car when the time is right.
