Entiat City Park is one of the most immaculately clean city parks I have ever seen. It's important to admit that most city parks have a multitude of problems threatening cleanliness: drug use, teenagers, homelessness, poor funding, low staff, etc. Entiat, based on my brief encounter with the city and the park, did not suffer from any of these problems. The park had perfectly cut grass, with sprinklers in full spray even though there was intermittent rain that day and for much of the previous week; newly remodeled bathrooms; and clean campsites, which were mostly full the time we drove through midday Saturday. While the park is close to the road, creating road noise threatening the tranquility of the moment, the view of the Columbia River at this section is stunning. This section, named Lake Entiat, would be a perfect section for water sports. I would've attempted paddleboarding here if we didn't already have a full day ahead of us with multiple additional parks and waters to explore. I'm not sure how a section of the river becomes a lake. Does the width of the river have to be X number of feet wider than normal? Maybe it is a way to identify different sections of the river. Regardless, it was the first of many nice sections of the Columbia River driving north from Wenatchee.

The second time I did it as a three night hike because it was after October 15th and I still didn't have a permit. Since that time, the permit season has been extended to October 30th. Either way, I suggest that hiking in the fall is the prettiest time due to the larch trees colors. Both times we started at the Stuart Lake trailhead (recommended due to reduced overall elevation gain) and ended at the Snow Lake trailhead. Now at the risk of offending someone I will say that hiking through the Enchantments in one day is like watching a porn movie on fast forward. You miss most of the scenery. My suggestion is to either get a permit, or hike outside of season, preferably in the fall, but stay at least two nights. Given that the hike up Aasgard Pass has an elevation gain of 1900 feet in about a mile, I can attest that it can be quite dangerous when raining. On the East side there will be mud & rock slides and in our case we had to duck out of the way of several large, (18 or so inch diameter) Rocks that came bouncing down the boulders with unpredictable direction at a very high rate of speed. Risks early in the season are snow slides and avalanches, so be very aware of the conditions when you are there. All that said, anyone who does not give this a five and tell you that it's absolutely one of the most beautiful hikes you'll ever take on must know something I don't, and I've hiked the Himalayas. Remember that goats are dangerous. Pee on rocks, not soil because the goats will dig it up for the salt. Try not to let a goat see you peeing or it will run towards you. Try fishing in the lakes; the trout are great for dinner up there. You should also know that when coming down toward the Snow Lake trailhead there are a large number of switchbacks and when you see the cars just down the hill, it will likely be another hour before you get there, and if you did it as a day hike, your feet may not be happy when you finally arrive. If you are a hiker, you must find a way to get this one done before you hang up your boots.

Now with Covid and summer plans being cancelled we figured we'd do something fun as a family and finally go camping since my boys have been begging to go camping for awhile. I checked multiple Pinterest pages on the must-haves for camping, bought a tent from Costco ( even made sure to practice setting it up and taking it down before our trip), got our fishing license and bought some fishing gear for the kids oh and let me not forget my kids were ok with sleeping bags but I also invested in a wait mattress for myself because sleeping on the ground just sounds painful. Pros- -So like I said the camp ground was gorgeous, we had the most amazing view our entire time here. - it was off the beaten path and not too packed. - the campgrounds were kept up and extremely clean. - there was also a roped off area for beginning swimmers. - they offered showers ( though make sure you bring quarters) - designated trash areas as well, and like I said these grounds were really kept up so there was really no trash on the floors. Cons- - bathrooms... ok I probably sound like a snob but the last time I went camping it seemed bathrooms were just a little more enjoyable. Here they literally have unisex stalls with a toilet. And it wasn't just any toilet but more so like a well or a outhouse with peoples pee and poop just festering in it all day til it's cleaned out... so gross and no sink in the bathroom or soap. Thankfully I read up and brought some hand soap - it's extremely windy... like we just moved back to Washington a year ago from Georgia so I felt we definitely had some ptsd from the winds ripping through the campground the last night... all night. It sounded like tornado winds. I couldn't sleep and our last night I really thought our tent would fall down before the night was over. - the lake though beautiful it was ice cold! Make sure to bring life vest because even in the summer heat eastern Washington provides this lake can freeze even a seasoned swimmer - but i think the worst part was the walk! So I haven't went camping since Highschool and I just remember us parking at the campsite and unloading... well that's not the case here. Now they do provide carts for your stuff however you have to park half a mile away and then walk and walk some more. It's hot, windy and for first time campers here it's not well directed of where to walk to for the campsite. However, once you get to the campsite the numbers are marked on the fence. Also, just note to self if this is your first time camping pick a campsite with a smaller number- you'll walk less. This is a fun day trip but I don't think I'd come back to camp.

There is a sign on the door that says no hot water. That's fine, whatever, tent campers get cold showers while paying for full hookups like we did so we could have electricity but we get cold showers because we are sleeping in tents. But this was not the issue. The issue is that the hot water is turned on sometimes... and there is no warning and no way to regulate the temp that comes out of the shower head. For whatever reason the faucet, while turning left and right - effects nothing. Now, if the water coming out was a nice warm 105 to 110 degrees that would be fine. But this was so hot it burned my daughters head and she only had it under the shower for the time it took to turn the water on, scream and move away. So, I went and got my meat thermometer and tested it. 167 degrees Fahrenheit. I highly doubt the legal department at PUD is aware of the water temperature streaming out of that shower head. One more thing about that water. We were told they turned on the hot water because the water for one of the RV'ers wasn't working. What? I'm confused on this tidbit. We also bought an RV space. Why the plain discrimination against tenters who are paying full rates? Why not warm water for all? But please, before that, fix the temperature problem first. If my daughter had been 2 instead of 21 her skin would have blistered and there would've been a hospital trip. Other than the hot water issue the campground is very nice, windy like a tropical storm, but beautiful. Be aware, camping has recently changed to reservation only.

The park offers amenities: public restrooms in a building and some port-o-potties; outdoor shower to remove the grime (that gets in EVERY crack); covered picnic tables. It also has some grassy areas for recreation and a playground for the kids. Plus, there's a touch of culture, with what professes to be the first human figure sundial. The sand is rocky in and out of the water, and the water is shallow, good for keeping it fails warm and for wading quite a ways out. It was nice to slather ourselves in the clay and let it bake in before rinsing it off. But be warned, the sulfur in the water and clay will keep you and anything you wear smelling even after a thorough washing. So I wouldn't plan a nice evening out after ;-) We look forward to going back for more fun this summer, after we check out some other local beaches.

Daughter and her kids played in the healing waters while wife read a book in the shade and I took the nap I really needed. Unfortunately, I took too long of a nap and missed laying in the water :( I guess I'll have to go back next year. This is the 3rd time we've come here and it is always worth a repeat visit when you are in the area.

We visited the forest in June when the snow was melting and there were brief rain showers everyday. Most creeks and rivers, especially the Wenatchee River, were overflowing their banks, with river water above the level of green grasses and bushes. The highly variable nature of the rivers made me wonder how difficult it would be for the home owners living just a few feet above their June high water mark. On a Wenatchee River rafting trip, a guide pointed out a high water mark when the river was at record levels during her lifetime. This must've been 10-15 feet above the already high water and would've destroyed many homes. Many of the trails in the National Forest are very long, requiring camping gear to complete the trail. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to complete any of these multiday treks, but I was satisfied with a taste of the trails in the area. The trails were generally quality from the start so I was never worried about only getting in a 3 mile hike if time was limited. Even a 3 mile hike would turn into a good workout because most of the trails had a steep incline. We were essentially stair climbing on many of the trails. It was hard but we also benefited from the incredible views. The views near the Leavenworth area were fruit trees and grapevines on the valley floor, steep pine trees ascending the mountainsides, with snowcapped peaks on the tops of mountains or on mountaintops in the background.
