We opted for a special dinner out for Valentine's Day while in CDMX. This is one of the locations in the Contramar family and it was fantastic. Our meals were absolutely great! Started with a classic ceviche and tuna croquettes, then onto kingfish filets prepared two ways, a seared tuna filet, and homemade pasta with shrimp. All were cooked to perfection. Coupled with some nice cocktails made for a great night. The desserts were irresistible. We had a hard time deciding since all six desserts on offer looked great. We opted for an apple tart and a pecan brownie (both warmed and with ice cream), a lemon tart, and a fig tart. Everyone was very happy with the desserts. The staff was friendly and attentive without being pushy. The dining room was bright and had interesting fish-related art on the walls. I would have rated it a 5, but for the fact that the doors to the street were open and we got overwashed with cigarette smoke on a number of occasions. A but pricey, but worth it! read more

We went to Entremer since the only res we could get at Contremar was for 6pm, a little early... We found a half empty restaurant, but eager wait staff. The menu is great, staff knew the menu well, answered all questions. We had Mahi Mahi ceviche, grilled tuna tips, patata y jamón, king fish.... All really great. Staging was almost nonexistent.... This is the sister restaurant of Contramar and I got a reservation the day of for lunch. We had lemonade which was good but sour. We loved the pulpo tostada (4pcs) which is chopped up octopus. We also had the shrimp ceviche with green sauce and I was expecting chopped up ceviche but it was whole shrimp which was interesting. The service is great and there are tables outside where we sat. Accidents happen. Tonight, our waiter at Entremar spilled a full bowl of caldo de camaron on my husband's lap. The soup went everywhere, soaking the tablecloth and splattering his pants, his shirt and his shoes. His pants (pictured) are most likely ruined. It was just an accident, but the way the team handled it felt unprofessional. The waiter quickly switched out our table linens and gave my husband a glass of soda water and a napkin to blot the (many) stains. Then he proceeded to deliver our entire meal to us as if nothing had happened. I don't work in the biz, but if I did something like that, I'd probably tell my manager or the host so that they could figure out how to best handle the situation, which by all accounts was a table-side disaster. For my husband, sitting in soup- and soda-soaked pants was unpleasant. For me, I couldn't erase the image of soup everywhere! It also felt surreal that our waiter turned all his energy and attention into getting our full order served. The two of us were of the same mind: To cut our losses and go. In order to exit quickly and quietly, we asked to speak to the manager and told him that we preferred to go. I think he was puzzled about why we would leave an entire meal of uneaten food. We had already said twice that we preferred to leave but instead he offered us complementary desserts, which we politely declined. Then he sent us a round of drinks, which we again declined. It felt kind of weird to be stuck there while he kept offering us little make-goods. In my opinion, he should have just let us go, no questions asked. We finally left after paying a significantly adjusted tab for a meal we didn't eat. I'm just bewildered by the team's inability to understand that having a bowl of soup dropped in your lap is a legitimate mood killer. read more

Tried to get reservations at contramar, but they were booked so got a reservation here. Definitely a touristy spot as it was all foreigners. The seafood was very fresh. Got a couple of appetizers, shrimp pasta, and catch of the day. Loved the tuna croquettes and octopus salad! Catch of the day was cooked well too. All the items were light, but flavorful. Our group agreed this was the best meal we had for our CDMX weekend. The 4 of us shared many items such as: fish quesadilla, shrimp ceviche, grilled octopus, grilled whole fish, fish tacos, & soft shell crabs. Who knew a city so inland has such great seafood and Entremar does every dish perfectly. We were so stuffed and then they showed us the dessert plate! We got the sweetest mango ever in our lives, fig tart, guava cheesecake and a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Whoa, everything was amazing. Reservation was definitely needed here which I was able to do online via OpenTable about a month out. The only downside is the restaurant is a bit noisy and has no AC. They have portable fans that blow right into your face, but it was no problem to ask them to turn it the other way. All the dishes came out quickly after we ordered and service was friendly. Bathroom is located on the 1st floor. Entremar is definitely a restaurant I would repeat on our next CDMX trip. read more

Entremar is a sister restaurant of Contramar. This was my first meal upon landing in Mexico City (we came straight from the airport). We were running about 20 mins behind our reservation and called to let them know we were running late. When we arrived, we were promptly led upstairs which came with a nice view or the park across the street. Same menu as contramar. Must order the tuna tostadas. We also got the pescado tacos, soft shell crab with flour tortillas (fantastic rec by our server), shrimp aquachile, scallop tostada. Everything was excellent. They are kind of aggressive here with the recommendations. I kept trying to order the pescado tacos only to be pressured to order the fish pastor tacos, which I've already had. If nothing else - I was literally BLOWN AWAY by the flavors here. I ordered the Aguachile verde de camarón which contains shrimp, red onion & chile cuaresmeño (scallops I suppose? Since it also contained them). I was literally OBSESSED with this dish. I was actually not hungry even when my reservation time came around, but I devoured this food since it was soooo good. It was a touch spicy but the piña colada I ordered buffered it just fine. It comes with chips, green salsa which is also a hair spicy (but super good), some spicy veggies, and limes. I had no space left on my stomach after to try anything but I was thrilled with what I had. The place itself was sooo busy and I barely got that reservation for just myself about a week in advance - so be warned you need a reservation! The sister restaurant "Contramar" in Roma Norte was the same way, they actually didn't have any reservations even for one in advance (which is why I opted for Entremar instead as they had 1 reservation even though it was a lot farther). The servers were kind and helpful as well, and the ambiance is nice enough, not the most upscale ever but nice enough all the servers are in black/white suits. There's an upstairs area that looked nice but my table was on the first floor so I didn't see it. The bathrooms aren't anything special, not fancy at all but functional. Overall even just for the flavors here I will ABSOLUTELY come back and would recommend this place to anybody that even remotely likes seafood because it's amazing!!! read more

Order alllll the things - you cannot go wrong with a single item on the menu. The grilled fish with red-green sauces is world famous for a reason; definitely get that. Highly rec the pulpo, too, and any of the ceviches/sashimis. The seafood here is universally cooked tender-but-toothsome; the textures are invariably perfect, the house-made corn tortillas are similarly the right texture, the salsas - sigh. You will be stuffed after appetizers and mains, and you may very well believe that you have no room left for dessert, but do yourself a favor and have a post-meal drink, and THEN order 2-3 postres for the table. My goodness they are all sensational and worth every calorie. That strawberry meringue is the stuff of dreams (a cloud of barely-sweetened whipped cream and berries, topped with a shower of crisp-tender meringue). The fig tart was excellent as well - the nut-based shell, the creamy center, the juicy fruit... gahh. And the cheese flan: it's a classic for a reason. Service is top-notch; everyone speaks English and Spanish. QR-code menu is also in English and Spanish. We really loved this restaurant. We had a 7:00pm reservation for dinner and arrived at 6:50pm and were promptly seated. We were offered downstairs, upstairs or outside seating. We chose upstairs and made the right call. The view was very pretty overlooking the tree lined park across the street. The restaurant already had about six tables filled upstairs. By 7:10pm it was completely filled. The service was impeccable and the menu items all were amazing. The fish with two salsas was outstanding as were the tostadas and tacos. The only thing I would have changed was order a less sweet dessert. I had the coconut flan and had a wild sugar high for almost an hour after dinner. The house made vanilla bean ice cream would have been a better choice. The chocolate brownie was light and very chocolatey as well. We will definitely go back. read more

I had a terrible experience with the service of Entremar, and for this reason, I am leaving this review to share some of my experiences today. I have been to many "nicer" restaurants but never experienced service such as this one. My family and I (a party of 4) unfortunately arrived 20 minutes late to our reservation, not ideal but traffic was pretty bad from where we were coming from. When we came to the restaurant though, there was a line of about 20 people who all had reservations IN LINE, people who booked in advance for ther tables. This line itself led me to be behind by 10 minutes until I got to the front of the line. The man at the front let me know that I would wait for 20 mins, and my family and I were fine with it and waited. As time went by, it was obvious we were not considered for any seats because more than 30 minutes passed by, and we noticed other parties of 4 being seated. I checked in on our table 2x only for us to be told to hold on. Finally at the end when I checked again, he let us know it would take an hour or so. I understand if we were not able to be seated - I wouldn't have minded since we unfortunately arrived late - but I would appreciate being told that from the start vs being given unrealistic expectations. The way he managed the line of reservation customers and our family was clearly not very skilled, and it often seemed like he needed to step away to check on things, and maybe another person would've been helpful. I was kind of shocked to see this line to check in for people who had reservations (which persisted and even extended the whole time I was there) since it clearly demonstrated not great internal seating planning and/or a lack of enough people to check customers in. We left without waiting as we felt our time was wasted. I would recommend caution with the service of this place. It needs some improvement. read more

If you can't get your reservation at Contramar, don't worry, Entremar will do perfectly! The food and cocktails were just as incredible, the space is beautiful (we sat upstairs), and the servers were so attentive. They even brought out a birthday candle on my fig tart (which was so good). We had the tuna tostadas, which are a must, ceviche, and the grilled octopus. I recommend having the latter chopped up and presented; better than you struggling to carve it up. I had the "Tostadas de Atún", "Ensalada Verde" and "Flan de Queso" everything was so delicious that I want to come back just to eat here!!! A friend of mine who has good taste recommended me the tuna tostadas and I though it sounded real good so... I tried and couldn't resist but to order an additional half order of 2. If you can't get a reservation at the ever popular Contramar, try Entremar or Caracol de Mar. The menus are very similar - maybe even identical? This is a casual type place. Both downstairs and upstairs are "open air" in terms of wind (but properly covered for rain etc) so definitely wear something suitable for the chilly temperatures in the evening. This ain't fine dining ambiance, but the quality is definitely up there. Seafood is a must to order. We had 4 different dishes to try, and this was a little bit too much food for two people! So 4 dishes is definitely good to share between 3. Every dish was good, but in order of what was the best to worst (but we would still order again): - their signature tuna tostadas - Octopus tacos - Contramar ceviche - fish "al pastor" tacos Pricing is expensive for Mexico City, but for the tourist-y and higher-end-y restaurants, I think it was alright given the portion sizes and the quality of seafood on offer. The waiters, although some were limited in English, are so extremely kind and attentive! We ordered: - Pescado a la talla (4.5/5): We ordered contramar style and it was grilled really well, I usually don't really like fish after it's been cooked, but this tasted really good! It is a tad more overpriced for just a fish, though. - Ceviche a... (was on the suggestions, but I can't find it on the menu and forgot the name already) (3.5/5): The fish I have to admit was amazing. When it came out, I thought it would have the texture of flaky cooked fish, but it was pretty bouncy and tasted really good! My biggest complaint was that the sauce did taste like ketchup- like not even many other flavors. It was extremely overwhelmingly ketchup. - Tostadas de atún (5/5) My absolute favorite! The tuna was so fresh and had a bit of soy sauce on them, but everything worked really well. - Tacos de pescado estilo Ensenada (4/5): Decent fish tacos, but it really wasn't anything special. The fish inside was basically fish sticks. Didn't taste bad, but it wasn't special either. - Tacos de carnitas de pulpo (4.5/5): The octopus tasted good, but overall there wasn't really a lot of flavor to the overall dish. Tasted good, but it's nothing memorable either. - Tacos de salteados de pulpo (4/5): Pretty much same as above, even less memorable though. We also actually ordered una jarra de limonada, and if you order it, expect it to be pretty sour with some carbonation to it. For dessert, we ordered the tarta de higo (fig tarte), and it's one of my favorites. I'd say it's definitely overpriced for what it is, but if you really really want some dessert, I'd recommend that! Overall, this restaurant seemed more of a touristy place (don't even recall seeing locals eating there) with food that really wasn't that flavorful but were pricier. MUST HAVES: the tuna tostada. everyone raves about it & it lives up to the hype. sooo good & fresh. our table luckily ordered quite a bit so everyone could have two tostadas each and no regrets. the whole grilled fish - their house specialty was so good. with two different flavors it was delicious. a bit on the pricier side but almost wish we got the larger size so we could savor it a bit more. the passionfruit cheesecake was INSANE. honestly was so surprised by how much we loved the dessert here (even though this is a seafood restaurant). if you love passionfruit and cheesecake, this dessert was a no-brainer. sooooo excellent. I went to Entremar for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I had heard from my hotel concierge that it was rather sister restaurant of Contramar which I had wanted to visit but could not get a reservation to. We ordered the fish and the shrimp. The shrimp was fishy and unpleasant. The fish was better but expensive and just average. I would not recommend this place or return. Like many, we made a quick reservation here as soon as we could ahead of traveling to CDMX. It's a pleasant experience start to finish - a testament to the superior tableside service you'll find around Mexico City. The host and staff were accommodating and attentive. Their spirit makes this place. We ordered oysters, ceviche Contramar, tostadas de pulpo, "the" photogenic pescado a la talla, and fig tart to finish. The fish was unsurprisingly the star of the show - well-flavored and cooked to perfection.
