Dr. Rose gave an extremely detailed and informative examination. Sure, I've only had two before, but I walked away from this one with a solid grasp on where and how my vision is failing me. Steven rocks. It's apparent that he is not only good at his job but that he enjoys it as well. He balances jovial flattery, self-depreciation and brutal honesty perfectly. If you want to step out of your comfort zone and pursue a look that truly compliments your face and style, he's your man. Their selection is great but on the pricier side, but hey, you get what you pay for. If you want to watch your wallet, there are plenty of other options out there. Do yourself a favor and turn the boring chore of having your eyes checked into a treat. Like a day at the spa, you'll leave Envision feeling so much better about both your health and your appearance. Dr. Rose is very professional and knowledgeable, and she did an excellent job explaining some issues she found with the type of contact lenses I wear and my maintenance routine. She identified a better product to work with my wearing pattern. She also fit me for a new set of glasses. Her staff is amazing. I have a hard time making decisions in the face of so many options, but Steven narrowed it down to a digestible number of really terrific options based on my style and a few question about my wearing habits and the work that I do. I was able to quickly narrow it down to two. I thought the video playback of me trying on different lenses was a fantastic touch, and it helped me to make a decision that I feel great about! Wow. Just...wow. I had been in the market for a new pair of glasses for awhile now. I had visited many of the local shops around downtown Boston and didn't really see anything that "jumped" at me. I don't consider myself a super fashionable guy but I know how to dress well - I know what looks good on me and what doesn't. So, I decided to check out the last shop on my list...Envision. Envision is definitely one of the more boutique/trendy eyeglass shops in the area. Prices are a bit higher compared to other shops. But hey, I've always been of the mindset to spend good money on an item that I'm wearing all day, every day. Upon entering the shop Steven greeted me and asked how he could help. I told him what I was looking for, and he asked a few questions to get a sense of my style. He then told me to give my insurance information and prescription to the receptionist so, assuming I found a pair I liked, they could quote me. While I did that, he went about and gathered up a few frame options for me. There was no "browsing" - Steven seemed to know exactly what I needed. I was a bit skeptical, but hey...I was already very impressed with how they approached the whole situation so I went with it. After giving my information, Steven called me over and had a small box of about 8-10 frames that he had handpicked himself. With THE VERY FIRST FRAME he told me right out that he though these would be the ones for me. I rolled me eyes a bit while sliding them on my face... Holy hell is this guy good. I loved them. First frame. Slam dunk. And I'm picky too! I tried on every frame he picked and there were a few other contenders, but the first frame blew everything else out of the water, including all other frames I had looked at at other shops. I asked Steven how the heck he knew, and he simply replied "this is what I do!" The man has great style and does really well explaining the subtleties of how different frames work with your face shape, complexion, everything! He is honest too -- he'll tell you straight up if he doesn't like a certain frame or look, which I really appreciated. Well...the decision was moot at that point. Ordered those glasses and walked out. Highly, highly recommend Envision. Their customer manner is second to none. Everything I hope for from an optometrist! The staff there is really no BS and don't beat around the bush at all. The styles are awesome, but are at the premium range. Luckily I have really good insurance, but I feel its money very well spent regardless. Investment into my eye health with absolute style is really important to me. The staff up front is not there to sell you up the river either. I work in sales and she worked like I do with my sales partners. She went through every item and made sure I got the best value, which is really nice. I also didn't feel pressured into buying a top brand, or like I was being sold up to. Honestly they only really carry top designer brands, so no up-sell needed. Very professional people and a very professional business. I'm definitely going to remain a client! read more

This review has nothing to do with Dr. Rose or Corinna in the front. But it does have to do with the rest of the staff, especially the ones that answer the phones. So, in December I called and ordered my contacts and was told it was only going to be 2 - 3 days for it to come in. Great, I have a trip coming in the first week in January so i'll get it in no time with a over a week and a half to spare. A week later, no contacts. I called them again, oh let me look into it. Oh they should be here soon. Ok... well what exactly is soon, I explained my predicament to Lisa and she goes, oh no worries they'll be here before your trip. I asked her if they don't come in, are there trial lenses I can have for my trip so I'm basically not blind since its a work trip and its hard for me to wear my contacts from 6 am to 10 pm every day as I'm running around. She says "Oh YES, don't you worry! We have PLENTY of them here". So, I don't worry, they say they have plenty, so why worry. I have an alternative. 1 day now before my trip, still no contacts. I called and asked, nope no contacts, don't know where it is. I go well can I come in and get the spares that you told me about. Sure come right in. Mind you this is still Lisa I'm talking to. Who've I've been talking to EVERY DAY about these contacts. I go in and there is NOTHING. She just sits there, looking oh so pretty as she stares off at her screen. No apology or nothing. I'm fuming now. Thank god for Corinna, she was there and immediately took down my information and told me she would look into it and order another box ASAP and have it sent to my hotel and she'll call the vendor to see what happened with my contacts. Corinna literally called me every hour to give me an update. One, the contacts were delivered over a week ago... to Braintree on Washington Street. A place I have never lived and I have no clue how it even got into my file considering this was my first time at Envision for an eye exam. And to make matters even worst, they were now backordered. Thank you Lisa for telling me you had uber amounts in the back cause now I have none when if I had known that, I would of ordered from 1-800-contact. Corinna did go above and beyond. She ended up ordering from another vendor and had it shipped to me at my hotel. So Dr. Rose, if you're reading this. Lisa customer skills and her problem solving skill suck. Not to mention, forget about her even double checking anything she tells your customers and as Corinna tries to solve her mess, she just sits idly by. Corinna is a true star though. BTW- I decided to give them a second chance and ordered a second box. I was told the same thing, it'll be two or three days. It's been a week and I just got off the phone (it wasn't LIsa this time) and told that it could be another 3-4 days. Effin great. read more

I used to go to here when it was called Downtown Eye Associates for years seeing Dr. Soll, he was amazing. He retired and Dr. Rose took it over. Unfortunately she isn't very knowledgeable and messed up my contact prescription. She had me try a new pair, which made reading very hard for me, I went back and told her. She was a little huffy and said, fine, try these your distance vision was honed at the expense of your reading, which I clearly told her I didn't want since I am on a computer 10-12 hours a day. Anyways, I try the new ones and they are slightly better, but I can seriously not read menus anymore. I end up going to Mass Eye and Ear for an exam and sure enough, the prescription was WAY off!! I knew it. The exact same thing happened to my colleague, so I sent her to Mass Eye and Ear, and she can now see after having them correct Dr. Rose's wrong prescription. She is 0-2 in my office. read more

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I use to go here before it changed ownership and decided to keep going even after they changed ownership, bad decision. The new staff is very rude and unprofessional. Since I had liked this place in the past (it used to be called Downtown eye associates) my entire family was going here as well. So my father had purchased a pair of glasses from the old owners and they broke. The glasses were supposed to be titanium and supposedly could not break. Well somehow they just broke and there were no twisting signs or anything like that they just broke right in the middle above the nose. Since we thought it had been about a year since dad had purchased them we thought we go to the place he got them to check if there was some kind of warranty, or to see if they had a similar frame for the lenses. The glasses were not cheap they cost about $900 before insurance and my dad had to pay a fraction of that out of pocket. As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted by a guy that took one look at the glasses and started making accusations. He was very offensive to both of us and should not be working in a client facing role. He told us that they didn't use that vendor anymore and he could not help. He offered no solutions; I guess the profit was not going to be very high! We asked if they had another similar frame and without even getting up from his seat to see what they had he said NO. These were very common size glasses found anywhere. We asked him to see if he could contact the manufacturer and he very reluctantly agreed, but since these were glasses my dad used every day we need it quickly; it took him about a month to get back to us!! We left there very frustrated walked into the next eye glass store and they were able to find a similar frame and put the lenses in them within the hour. I guess it was a very easy thing to do. read more

I am so happy I found Envision. Dare I say - it is actually fun to go in there! It's surprisingly difficult to find amazing eyewear and eye care service in Boston, but Envision makes my life easy. The staff is very friendly and the doctor is quick, efficient, and knowledgeable. The service they provide is top notch, and the frame selection is beautiful. And I can't say enough about Steven - twice now he has found my "perfect" frame without my even having to try others on. Literally I will say "I'm looking for a frame" and he already has something in mind. I try it on, and voila! It is gorgeous, and I must have it. The optometrist office where I had my eye appointment did not take my insurance for frames and lenses, so on a co-workers recommendation, I came here. WHAT. A. DIFFERENCE. Envision is VERY welcoming, kind, and friendly. Everyone is patient, let's you browse at your own pace.. and seem to enjoy helping their customers. I am regretting not getting my eyes checked here, but will most certainly be coming here in the future. They're a bit pricier, but sometimes good customer service and friendly people are worth the extra few dollars. Came here as a last minute alternative to my normal eye glass place (they wont be named as I wont be going there any more.) The staff @ Envision is very helpful and polite. As soon as I walked through the door I was greeted and acknowledged by one of the 3 assistants. Got to interact with just about everyone in the office and they were all very pleasant and helpful every step of the way. Finally met with Dr. Rose who was a pleasure to work with along side with her assistant. The appointment was great, though I had concerns since this was last minute/holiday/end of month/year rush, but I was wrong! Great service from start to finish. By far the best customer service in Boston. I woke up with a horrible eye infection. I immediately emailed Envision to come in for appointment. They emailed me back right away with an early morning appointment. When I arrived I explained that I thought the eye infection was because I had lost my glasses and was wearing my contacts too often. Since I did not have a pair of glasses to wear and am close to blind Dr. Rose had her assistant call fellow eye doctors to find my lens. They then sent someone out to get the lens so they could fit it for a new set of glasses. Within 2 hours I had a brand new pair of glasses which was vital because I couldn't wear my contacts. Not only did Christina and Dr. Rose fully execute the process quickly but Steven offered to meet me at South Station with the glasses so I wouldn't have to walk far since I could barely see. Best customer service I have experienced in a long time. They have set a new standard for eye doctor offices. read more

I'm turning 42 and my eyesight has gone off a cliff. I could no longer just increase the font on my kindle or pinch my iphone screen and fake it. Things that needed actual reading could no longer wait. I found envision on Yelp, and i'm so glad I made an appointment right away! First, they were able to accommodate an appoint for me within about 3 days, which was very helpful. My eye exam with Dr. Rose was helpful and informative. I had her undivided attention as she sought to find out how to solve the problems that my failing eyesight was causing, and talked through the variety of options, and the pluses and minuses of each, that I was able to choose from. From there, I spent a ton of time with Stephen (Steven?) who prides himself on ensuring that each client walk away with the best looking frame that meets a person's needs and comfort level that can be found. He is a stylist and a consultant and he KNOWS about eyeglasses and the lenses themselves. He was a true partner in the process, and I was grateful for the help. The selection in the store isn't enormous, but I had at least a dozen options that were along the lines of what i thought i'd get, and the ones I walked with are absolutely perfect-- professional and stylish in every way. I can't say much about the prices (there are always cheaper places, I'm sure), as I wasn't shopping based on price points. All in all, I'd highly recommend both the medical part of my visit, as well as the eyeglass shopping part. read more

Needed new contact prescription/ checkup so I looked on ZocDoc and found this place, which seemed close enough to work so I scheduled an appointment. Come the day of the appointment ZocDoc sent me a text reminder of my appointment and where it is and I merrily copy-pasted the address into google maps which then directed me to 126 High Street in a residential part of Charlestown which had no office at all. Fearing the worst I called the office and was informed that they are located at a DIFFERENT 126 High Street, Boston, near South Station. The receptionist asked me if I could get there for my appointment, which was in 2 minutes. Umm no. Because I've just told you I'm in Charlestown. I eventually made it to the correct place and the exam was fine. Except at one point Dr. Rose's assistant was asking me how I had gotten lost and when I told her she said, "oh that's happened before, you're not the first." Wait, what? If I'm not the first then why wouldn't you change your address in ZocDoc to include the crucially-important zipcode of your office? Or call customers to confirm their appointment and make sure they know where to go? Just seems a little backwards. It's totally my fault in the end, but it would have been nice to avoid taking half the day off from work. Horrific getting-lost incident aside, they scheduled me for the next appointment they had in a few hours and I schlepped over to the actual office and found it without problem. The office was compact but not cluttered, and the staff all seemed willing to help and professional. The equipment all looked top-notch and they were pretty efficient with the whole exam. read more

I continue to have an incredible experience with Envision. Making my initial appointment was easy with Michaela, and she was ready and willing to work with me from the start to make sure my visit was appropriately covered by/billed to my insurance provider. Envision supports independent frame vendors, something I really admire in any practice, and as a result their selection is gorgeous. They will even let you take a few pairs home for a short period of time (one day I think?) to test which frames you like best before purchasing. As for the appointment itself, I arrived on time and the wait time was practically zero. Dr. Garlich is really incredible and will take the time to listen to your concerns. I suffer from daily headaches and have seen multiple specialists (including neurologists, ophthalmologists and neuro-ophthalmologists at Tufts and BI) who, when I complained of double vision, told me that my eyes were fine and that current testing may not be sensitive enough to detect my problem. I respect and understand that, as headaches can often be difficult to diagnose, but as a result, I've gone with no definite diagnosis (for anything) for close to 8 months. That is a long time to have daily, weird, and painful eye symptoms with no explanation! But, within fifteen minutes of my visit with Dr. Garlich, she had me in a pair of trial frames for prism lenses that eliminated my double vision. My eyes immediately relaxed and I knew she made the right call. She took my concerns seriously and helped me translate them into something that could be treated. She also took the time to explain possible causes of my headache as relates to my eyes. After my appointment, when I mentioned an additional concern I did not voice in clinic, Dr. Garlich was immediately available via e-mail and telephone, and invited me in to see her in clinic the same day at no additional charge. She wants to make sure things are right. She is so generous with her time and I am so grateful for that! In a time of medical uncertainty, where I have been passed back and forth between specialists that have not taken me seriously, Dr. Garlich stood out as exceptional. The most exciting part about having her as a physician is that she has proven to be sincerely interested in each of her cases, and wants feedback about whether treatment is working. That quality is so incredibly valuable to me and I will never go anywhere else for my annual exams because of it. Bottom line: if you work in the area and Envision accepts your insurance plan, definitely consider coming here, because they are exceptional. read more

We make a habit out of only seeing the best when it comes to health and Dr. Rose is just that the BEST. When I was an impatient 24 year old I had got Lasik Eye Surgery. I was ill advised... that was way too young. So now I am having issues with it. Nothing catastrophic but scarey enough when it has to do with your ability to see. Dr Rose has been doing a great job bringing my through this process and my vision will soon be 20/20 again. If I had been seeing her when I was 24 then this probably would not have happened but vision is always 20/20 in hindsight. read more

I picked this place as it was in close proximity to work and had Accommodating hours. I didn't expect the friendly/kind staff who greet and see you before the Dr-big plus. Dr. Rose and her in-room asst were very thorough yet quick, explaining as they went and asking you for questions along the way. There is nice equipment, and a good selection of glasses with a FABULOUS guy who grabs glasses for you-who seems to be spot on with styles that will suit you. But seriously, every year something different happens that just makes me so happy that I chose to switch to them for eye care. So my appointment was supposed to be 2 weeks ago. Things happened in life and I had to call and cancel my appointment and reschedule 1 hour before my appointment. I KNOW! i am SUCH an inconsiderate person. I felt like a jerk. I was being a jerk. They should have treated me like a jerk. What did the nice people at Envision do instead? "Not a problem! Congratulations on your engagement and how does next week sound to you" No judgement. No snark (which would have been deserved). No furstrated sighs. Giggles and acceptance. Thank you for being so understanding. So I go into Envision, get my routine eye exam and bring some really cute sunglasses I purchased in to have the lenses switched out for preseciption. Easy. I should have been done. But wait? My lenses from last year are under warranty? Well what do you know? In my drunken stupor one night I scratched my sunglass lenses. It was karma for me having them atop my head at 8PM...i deserved it. But I can get new lenses for freeeee?!??!! WHHHAAATT lets exchange! Thank you to Emily, for pointing out the warranty for me and setting up the lense swap with a smile. God I was so happy. I am going to look at the glasses. Because Stephen is there. and he knows what is amazing. And what do you know, 2 pairs of glasses that I love. Well do you know what happened last time I left with only 1 pair of glasses when I wanted 2? The world kept turning and I was totally ok with life. But then there is always that one day you are thinking "but what if." and its usually those days when you are stuck inside staring deeply into your puppy's eyes contemplating how much better life would be if you were a dog. So I got both pairs. I know...but seriously, with the offer of 40% off the entire package, well why not? Emily prices them out for me and I go to pay when my card gets declined...how embaressing? Well silly me never activated it and the staff at Envision were oh so patient while i fixed that problem and handed the money over. Whats even better? Apparently there were lenses that they had got for me last year in the back that they got for my sunglasses and I could leave with brand new lenses for my sunglasses! WOOHOO! Life if good. But what kind of person would I be if I hadnt sent several annoying pictures to my friends with the new glasses on. Of course they loved them and wanted to get some themselves. Well would you believe it if my friend went an ordered the same Judith Leiber frames I got except they were about $200 cheaper? Ugh, am I that person? I call up Envision and ask about the pricing. I had a great experience with Envision for my annual eye exam. It was my first time at the office. Dr. Rose is intelligent and thorough and full of insights regarding my eyes, and the latest technologies for crafting lenses as well as contact lens options. In fact, "latest technologies" is a great way to describe the whole office, as Dr. Rose, after purchasing the business last year, went through great efforts to get in new technologies for the exams as well as port everyone over to Electronic Medical Records. On top of that, the eyewear staff spent extra time giving me frame options to choose from and actively offering opinions on what they felt worked or didn't work for my face. This was my first visit to Envision and I will definitely return. Everyone in the office was friendly and helpful and the doctor was very thorough, answered all my questions, and explained what she was looking for when reviewing my test results. There's a nice selection of frames there as well - I guess a bit pricey but I buy glasses once every few years, so for me, a good pair of glasses is worth a little extra. I am giving 2 starts because they don't have a pair of frames under $399. So i am taking my prescription elsewhere to fill my glasses and i won't be back for my exam next year. I will go somewhere else where there are some lower end glasses for people who don't want to spend so much on glasses. This morning I had an issue while putting in my contacts and managed to lose a contact somewhere in my eye. Yes, I've been a klutz since birth. I'll spare you my drama, but after trying unsuccessfully to locate and remove it, I headed to work in the financial district in an uncomfortable state. At my first opportunity I walked into Envision and explained my problem. The staff was extermely friendly and helpful and Dr. Rose fit me in between several customers after only a short wait. She examined my eye thoroughly and was able to take care of the problem. I completely expected to pay for her time and service, but she didn't charge me. As a result...I've found a new eye doctor! Booked an eye exam on the spot and will buy my lenses and frames from them as well. Modern space, modern equipment, and people who are invested in what they do. That's good enough for me! read more

I have bought four pairs of glasses at Envision, each pair was very expensive with progressive lenses. Every order was delayed not for days but weeks and I was given every possible excuse by the head of their lab. I never give bad reviews, I can completely understand when people have had a hard day, but my experience yesterday at Envision was SO uncomfortable. I made an appointment with them to have a contact exam. I got to my appointment ten min early and was directed to the waiting area to fill out paperwork. About 5 minutes in, the assistant to the doctor comes in and asks me to come into the office (super rushed) and I asked her if I should finish the paperwork to which she says I can finish it in the office - why are we in such a rush? The experience started off horribly. I had pulled up my most recent LensCrafters contact prescription on my phone for the doctor's convenience and pulled it out as soon as we got inside the office. As soon as I showed it to the assistant I realized that the contact prescription wasn't expiring for another 11 days, so I was like "hey I can still order contacts with this". The assistant became super awkward and was like no we can't, and when I asked why she said it was expiring too soon (what's the point of an expiration date then)? When I asked why she said she was going to have to ask the doctor and that I should continue filling out the paperwork. Upon coming back to the office she said they could give me a pair of contacts for free until my prescription expired and then would give me my exam (what difference does that make?? I'm still paying the additional $60 to have an exam that I don't want to have). When I asked what the deal was they said they couldn't ethically let me purchase contacts knowing that my prescription was expiring soon - which I actually think makes a lot of sense, but they took no time to understand my history. I have been wearing contacts for the past 15 years and in the recent 3 years my prescription has not changed once. Additionally I told them I had an eye exam 2 months ago for prescription glasses, and they never took the time to understand how the appointment went (the doctor who performed that exam confirmed my eyes are very healthy). So since I felt like they were not taking the time to understand my situation (the reason why I left LensCrafters begrudgingly was because they do not take my new insurance, but I loved the fact that they were so considerate of my needs, to the point where they were helping me find other offices that took my insurance) I asked if I could call LensCrafters to get confirmation. The assistant became clearly annoyed and said thats fine. I asked if I could stay in the office and make the call and she curtly said that I would have to go sit in the waiting area to make the phone call. As I go sit in the waiting area I see two other doctors go into the office and hear them begin talking about me. Then they closed the door to talk even more I presume - I can't explain how insulted I was and how unprofessional it was that they obviously had this pow wow right in front of me. LensCrafters confirmed they could sell me the contacts and I decided to leave. Upon leaving I ran into one of the doctors who apologized for the inconvenience but defended the fact that they are a small business and can't risk bending the rules. Truthfully, I believe that that could be the case, but my interactions with the assistant felt like she was taking my decisions personally. No one once said "hey I understand why you are considering this, but this is why sticking with us and having an appointment would be good for you". I felt like the doctors had all been talking about me (after the assistant had been rude to me) - why would I stay there?? The only reason I am giving two stars and not one is because when I was leaving the gentleman working in the retail section asked me how I was doing and was seemingly the only person who was concerned about my feelings.
