I've been here twice and I'm deciding for myself to not go again. But, they do really great work here with nails. Jenny hooked me up each time I went. I loved her shaping for my coffin nails & my gel lasted for 3 weeks, it could have lasted even longer to be honest, but I was ready for a change. Now to the stuff I didn't like .... They are a bit pricey for me. Their shop isn't updated or any new renovations and in the hood, but they charge hefty prices. And their customer services is not all that, lowkey rude. Also, I like places that have more nail technicians available. It seems like there is only two people that do nails & one older woman who does pedicures. I also value consistency in pricing and my first time going my gel fill was 40 and then the next time it was $50.. I think that's pretty expensive. With no added designs or anything. Medium length. I also don't like that a rule they have is to pay before the work is complete. You can only use cash. I don't think this place is horrible, horrible. Just not up to my liking. Probably won't be back. But, it's definitely a situation where you should check it out yourself and see what you think. read more

I wanted to try a new shop and based upon the reviews that I read I figured I'd try this one. I called at 6:03pm to see if I could come in just to get the polish changed on my toes and a design and they told me yes. I was then asked how soon could I come in and I told them in 15 minutes in which they told me ok. I arrived by the location 14 minutes after I called and they had the location closed up with the gate so I called back. When I called the same person who answered the phone told me that I said I'd be there 15 minutes ago and that they were waiting for me but now at this point I would have to reschedule even after I informed them of our conversation. Price: $25 hot stone spa pedicure $20 gel polish $5 to remove previous gel & I had acrylic tips ..which I had a fill but I can't remember he cost for that. I don't know the older ladies name..but she's the primary nail tech that does the pedicures. I have yet to see her do any hand sets..(fine by me) .. Well she was really great and gentle..not rough at all..I'm not sure how strong her English is as she didn't talk much..but I wasn't looking for much that needed to be said...just a simple gel polish pedi.. Tip: $5 charge to remove gel polish. And yes they remove it correctly ..with the foil.. pic will be provided for proof. So she took her time( yes I used the work "took") ..massaged my feet ..no rush job. I had the hot stone pedicure..(amazing and relaxing) ... she was thorough when it came to exfoliating my feet.(she did it twice ) Other than that..I will give them a second round of my toes.. It's not the fanciest of shops when it comes to decor.but all the ladies are pleasant. And give respect and quality work. So yeah some people may not want to pay their prices because ..they aren't receiving champagne upon entrance. Looks have nothing to do with quality. Yeah I know I'm going hard. I came in today last minuet along with a friend but that's no excuse for an employee to act rude or annoyed. (One of the ladies rolled her eyes when I walked in and asked for a mani.) Terrible service. The other Asian lady who did my nails doesn't speak English (I'm assuming) since she was incapable of using words to tell me where to place my hands. Instead she forcefully placed them where they needed to be. And later on I heard her speaking very good English. I guess she's just a b***h who does speak perfect English but likes to play dumb. My nails look like I did them myself. They're already chipped. And the lady who did my nails missed some spots on my nails while applying the polish. She didn't even take her time. She probably spent 10 minutes on them. And she told me to pay first?? That's never happened to me before. That's just weird. She definitely didn't get a tip. Even my friends and boyfriend commented on my nails and said I could have done all that myself. I wasn't expecting this to be a fancy nail salon since its in a ghetto area, but I also wasn't expecting to see multiple dog/cat crates stacked in the corner of the salon. That's unsanitary! Overall the salon was dirty looking. And the area it's in is scary. I won't be coming back here. I'd rather spend $35 on a mani elsewhere instead of spending $12 and being treated badly. Waxer totally scammed me. Last week I needed a last minute bikini wax and could not go to one of my usual spots. I called in to make an appointment and asked for the price, the man on the phone said it would depend. I didn't have time to call around in a new neighborhood, so I decided to show up thinking it can't be higher than $40. I have never paid outside of $20-$30 for this treatment that I've been having done occasionally for 10+ years. As I was getting my wax done, I asked the woman, who seems to run things, how much my extended bikini (front bikini zone and between the thighs- about 1.5 inches out from my vulva region) would be and she said $80! I was completely shocked. Going to European Wax Center doesn't cost nearly this much for a full Brazilian, including between the cheeks. I was visibly shaken because I am a nursing student with no job and felt totally scammed with this outrageous made up price (she knew I was a first time customer). The waxer could see I was about to cry so she lowered my price to $70 and waxed a tiny bit more hair than I think she planned to. I asked how much a Brazilian would be if bikini is $80, and I was told $100! This isn't even a spa salon or an upscale city. I paid and tipped but I will never be back again. The pricing was outrageous and I feel totally taken advantage of. Tracy European Wax center (pricier than the typical nail salon) charges around $42-$51 for the service I had done at Envy. They will get my business if my usual $25 nail spot is closed. read more

All I can say is that it's a art to nail sculpting and Sarah has the gift! I've had the same manicurist for over 25 years and have never had anyone be able to come close to her craft. So this Saturday I made the decision to try Envy! Very clean salon first and foremost. I was somewhat hesitate at the hour wait with no appointment, but it was well worth it. Sarah's Mom actually trained by technician! I was so impressed by her professionalism that I had to write a review. I thought I would be put off by the pay first, but in all fairness it's better to know up front than to be surprised later. All in all, do not be put off by the reviews. I love nail salons with character and also good conversation. The wait time wasn't really that bad honestly I've waited at places longer then a hour but I wasn't really doing anything so I wasn't worried. Went on a Tuesday. Had a busy day so I tried to get them right when they opened, only no one was there. After waiting 20 minutes I dipped. Something was calling me back. Was it the sketch neighborhood? Was it the gated up shop making you think the place had closed down? Whatever it was I came back in the afternoon and was glad I mucked up the courage to enter haha. They were super chill both girls worked on my nails but I think Sarah is the artist bc within one minute she turned my nails into banksey art piece! So sad when 14 days came bc shellac (which is about $30 here) truly only lasts 14 days on my nails. I have been getting my nails done at Envy Nails for years now, and would prefer to go no other place in Oakland because of the great precision both Sarah and Jenny use when taking care of me. It's been 1 week, and my hands and feet still appear freshly done. I always appreciate people who take pride in the quality of the service they provide as well as the end product (my nails!!). I also appreciate how intuitive they are to their clients; if you're thirsty, they offer you something to drink. Once I had a caffeine withdrawal headache, and Sarah paused while doing my nails, went in the back, and unexpectedly emerged with some hot instant Vietnamese coffee. She, Jenny and Grandma are such a blessing! I also appreciate how these women have remained in a neighborhood that isn't so great, and still thrive there. So many business owners relocate to places where the "money" is, and there are a very limited number of great nail salons that do acrylic nails. So I'm happy they are where they are. It also makes sense that they make you pay first when you truly consider where they are located. At the end of the day, they are a business, and their policies are posted on their wall. So you can make informed decisions of whether you want to be serviced, whether you like it or not. Lastly, since I have been going there for so long, I can appreciate that they are human... It's amazing how people assert their sense of entitlement when it comes to people who provide their services, no matter what it may be. People walk into nail salons, and assume people don't speak English, then talk to them as though they are ignorant. People expect that they can come in with an attitude, and they're supposed to be treated as though they're special. I believe great customer service is deserved when you make a genuine effort to be nice; the person providing your service is human like you... so you treat them with the same respect you desire to receive. Seeing the post from Izzy B. just proved the prejudices/racist thoughts she's clearly conveyed in her post, which she most likely projected by way of her communication (verbal and non-verbal) with the Envy Nails team. That would surely create an environment that made it difficult to be nice to her. The nails on my hands and feet have never been cleaner and clearer since I began going to Envy Nails in 2010, and to insinuate that the salon is dirty because it's not some gentrified "New Oakland" establishment is ridiculous. To top it off, the fact that 6 out of the 7 of Izzy's reviews are negative just goes to show how credible her reviews really are... such a complainer! I'm grateful Izzy and anyone else with her similar worldview and attitude won't be coming back... then I won't have to be uncomfortable in one of my favorite places to be in Oakland.
