Its been one year since my husband and I ate here on our honeymoon and we were excited to come back to celebrate our anniversary. This place is incredible. We had reservations and were going to be seated inside. When we asked for the rooftop balcony instead, the hostess made it happen, no problem. The view is incredible: downtown Durango and the mountains. Our reservation was at 7 and the sun was beginning to set, the lighting was divine. Our server, Zel, greeted was a smile, bringing us water and bread as starters immediately. We wanted to start with a celebratory sparkling something and we were impressed with Zel's knowledge of the restaurant's good (but not overwhelming) selection of wines. (We overheard him suggesting wine pairings for other tables and it was obvious he really knew what he was talking about.) We went with a sparkling rosé called "J" which was absolutely the right choice. Dry but with a very small hint of sweetness to enliven the palette. Now to the food. The restaurant is farm to table and I guarantee you will not be disappointed with anything you order--its clear this restaurant takes pride in their food AND the experience-- but you HAVE to start with the Seared Sea Scallops and Prime Rib Bacon: sweet potato chip +truffle honey mustard +Turtle Lake pea vines. Mouth watering yet? For dinner, my husband ordered the Surf and Turf: butter braised Maine lobster tail +asparagus +beurre monte; filet +mashed Stubborn Farm local potatoes +peppercorn sauce. I ordered the Hamachi Volcano Roll: avocado +cucumber +wasabi sauce +green tobiko +volcano sauce +basil. This is hands down one of the best meals we have every eaten and we've been all over Europe. Best thing about this place was the server. He was very knowledgeable and quite helpful. My husband ordered the $60 special, the homemade lobster something hollandaise sauce that came with it was "eh". The mashed potatoes were delicious but the broccolini was tasteless. The steak itself was great! I had the salmon dish and it was a dud. Very neat story on the personal relationship between fisherman and buyer which really made me excited for it. It sucked. Overcooked and flavorless. I was really bummed. They offered to take it back and recook its but it took forever to get here as it is so I opted out and pushed my plate to the side and nibbles off my husbands potatoes. No discount or removal from the bill. Which is fine. Their warm beet salad was delicious and their calamari was ok. The service however is phenomenal. read more

I dined at Eolus for the first time last week and everything--from the food, to the customer service, to the ambience of the restaurant--was absolutely incredible. First, let me say that Eolus is a "fine dining" restaurant without all the stuffiness of fine dining. The service, as well as the quality and presentation of the food, are on par with any fine dining restaurant, but the brick wall and cool art give the place a more comfortable casual feel. You could show up to Eolus in a T-shirt and jeans and feel perfectly welcome. For my entree, I ordered the prime rib two ways. The meat (local from James Ranch) was tender and extremely flavorful. It came out a perfect medium rare (just the way I ordered it), and was accompanied by a side of mashed potatoes and broccolini, both of which were delicious. The other people in my party ordered the lobster burger and surf & turf. Everyone raved about how delicious their meal was. Although we were stuffed from dinner, we nevertheless each ordered dessert: chi creme brûlée, chocolate trio, and a coconut carrot cake. If you are in Durango and looking for an exceptional dining experience, I highly recommend Eolus. I can't wait until my next visit. read more

Really loved my experience at Eolus. We had a 15 person group for dinner to celebrate upcoming nuptials and the staff made our entire experience an absolute joy. They allowed us to come and decorate the table with flowers and set our own place settings. Our waitress was hands down the best I've ever had - making her way around the 15 person table without a hitch. She allowed us to split it 14 ways (to cover the bride) which is unheard of in fine dining. Definite kudos. The food here was really good, but do keep in mind that this is Durango and not NYC. I enjoyed the surf and turf which was excellent. Beautifully prepared and plated. The only food I didn't like was the vegetarian sushi roll which I felt was a little off in flavor and the texture of the rice (too hard). Wine suggestions were on point and priced reasonably. All in all we loved our time at Eolus and will certainly be back next time we are in Durango! read more

Not only was Eolus' food phenomenal but the service was absolutely amazing. Our waitress was sweet, attentive, and truly took care of us. We have visited Durango several times in the past, and Eolus had always intrigued me from the street. When we finally made Durango our home last month, I knew that I wanted to treat my family to a special celebratory dinner (our anniversary and my birthday) here. I loved the ambiance, the lighting and decor. We had a party of five and were seated inside at the very back of the restaurant in a little dining nook. I tried to reserve a rooftop table, but there were none available--not surprising as it was the Fourth of July and it's a prime fireworks viewing spot. We were happy that Eolus features some bottles of wine for $30 or less so we shared one among four of us. Their beer selections are good. I chose the Grilled Hanger Steak, medium rare. It was melt in the mouth delicious. The chili glaze wasn't too spicy, and the garlic Gorgonzola mashed potatoes were fabulous. My husband had the crab-stuffed chicken which he loved. Beet salad? Delicious. My daughter had the grilled pork chop. She's not normally a huge eater but she left only a bite of her Mac and cheese on the plate. My son had the marlin special and loved it. The bill for the five of us including drinks and tip was just over $300--pricey for us, but as I said, this was a very special occasion. I'll be back someday! read more

Had dinner here last night. The food was so delicious! We had the seared scallop appetizer, spicy tuna roll and 9 oz. grass fed steak with crispy potatoes and sautéed spinach. The last two were specials. We've been on the road for four weeks and this was by far my favorite meal. They also have a great wine list. My hubbie and I shared everything and it was plenty. Eolus has been a favorite go-to since we've been in Durango for the past three years! Unfortunately, the past two visits have not been satisfactory. Overcooked salmon and pork chop and most recently, mediocre service. With gratuity and dinner, we feel as though a $200 tab should come with a better experience. Wanted to think the first sub-par dining experience was a mis-hap with the restaurant making its way through COVID new-procedures. However, with another sub-par experience one month later, we will give Eolus a break and not visit nor recommend for the near future. We are there last night. We ordered filet and wait person suggested it be medium rare. As we don't eat bright pink meat we requested medium well which is normally with a thin pink line. It was served charred, way beyond well done. Presumably we violated the chefs standards with our request. For us, the place is pretentious and we won't be returning. First, the staff was amazing. We arrived with our two young daughters fresh off a 2-day road trip, and the girls were cranky. This can usually spoil the ambiance, but our waitstaff was extra patient and helpful. The atmosphere of Eolus is great, the outdoor seating is very pleasant with a well lit patio and a vegetable garden. Although the prices are high, the food is most definitely worth the money. I would recommend the prime rib and any of the sushi rolls. The night I dined there, the special was a perfectly cooked Hawaiian fish. Delicious. As for dessert, the key lime pie was very flavorful without any artificial coloring. It was also big enough to share with about three people. Good food and worth the price. read more

First a comment about the review on here that complained about the restaurant's prices. If the reviewer can't afford to eat at a nice restaurant, they should go eat fast food or cook at home. Don't give a bad review about a restaurant that you haven't even tried! Now about my visit here: Service was top-notch! The server handled our special requests gladly and did not have to be asked twice for any of the special requests. In addition, I asked several food specific questions and If the server did not know about something I asked about, she was very willing to find out from the owner or chef. And I asked several questions most servers would not take the trouble to ask. My water was dutifully refilled without ever asking or even allowed to get much below half full. I drink a lot of water and its nice to have service that is attentive, yet not intrusive. I ordered the "Prime Rib Two Ways". It had great flavor, but it was not marbled like I expect USDA prime rib to be. This different dish has the outer ring of the prime rib removed and rolled then smoked, and then the inner "eye" is marinated and grilled. Perhaps when it is smoked a lot of the marbling was cooked away, but I found the preparation of this cut to be very lean and un-prime rib like. The Caesar salad was tasty and they were very accommodating on adding anchovies pieces as requested. My drink was well made with good ingredients. My dining partner had the chopped salad, the menu does not mention that it is deconstructed, and for that reason, he did not expect what was served, but that was easily fixed by stirring it all together. He commented that his mojito was the best he had tasted, refreshing and not overly sweet. He ordered the grilled pork chop and was very pleased with it. The shrimp & calamari appetizer has a tasty sweet (chili?) sauce, but for my tastes, a a little less sauce would be better or perhaps serve the sauce on the side. read more

I visit Durango often and I was excited to try the lobster burger at Eolus and sit on the great roof top patio. I have eaten here in the past when it used to be Cosmos and I was thoroughly impressed. My wife and I both had grass fed locally raised beef entrees which were great. The kids were happy with the kid choices as well.
