Beautiful restaurant with beautiful dishes. What we ordered: Ceviche mixto-had the perfect balance of citrus, tang, and freshness. $4 to add on taro chips. Paella negra- ordered the medium size and the portion was massive. I loved that the seafood was mixed throughout the rice, so every bite had a great seafood-to-rice ratio. The only thing I felt was missing was the crispy bottom (socarrat), which our paella didn't seem to have. Still yummy & tasty. Basque cheesecake- just order it. Soooooo good. I thought I'd miss the crust of a traditional cheesecake, but this one was so rich & creamy that we practically inhaled it. The service was just as memorable as the food. Since we were celebrating my husband's birthday, our server surprised us by comping the cheesecake. It was such a thoughtful gesture and definitely not expected, and we appreciated the kindness. Third visit and I think I can finally say I've experienced pretty much everything Suspiro has to offer. This time, after the Mother's Day dinner, my mom and I checked out their speakeasy. But first, the paella is still a must-order. We went with the seafood paella this time and it was just as good as I remembered, fresh ingredients, packed with flavor, and still my favorite paella in the Bay Area. The Patatas Bravas wasn't quite as memorable as my first visit, but still good. As for the speakeasy, it's definitely one of the nicest upscale cocktail spots in San Jose. It's not exactly hidden, just walk past the restroom area and through the curtain, but the atmosphere is beautiful. Dim lighting, elegant decor, great music, and gorgeous bar setup. I ordered the Enchanted for myself and my mom got Midnight in Spain, and both cocktails were well-made and beautifully presented. I always enjoy sitting at the bar and watching the bartenders work their magic. Overall, another great experience. Between the food, cocktails, and atmosphere, Suspiro continues to impress me. Suspiro has become one of our go-to places to take friends for a meal. Service is great and friendly, plenty of seating inside and outside, and the food is delicious. We've ordered a good spread of their menu between the times we've visited, but we always come back to: paella, ceviche, and sangria. There's a variety to choose from for each, so pick whatever speaks to you -- they'll all be tasty. If you're planning to also order a spread of different food like we did, a medium paella was enough for a party of 4 (even though it says that it serves 2). We also tried the empanadas on our most recent visit, and those were also super yummy. When in doubt, ask your server! Ours gave us great recommendations each time. I'm sorry I just can't get over the service I just had. I went to the speakeasy on a Friday night around 8 which was not too crowded which I loved. Was greeted nicely by the bartenders. But I felt the hate from the waitress as soon as she walked to the table and interacted with me. I asked what her what she recommended, gave her a choice of two drinks, and she sooo rudely said, " ma'am I don't drink where I work". Mm ok. So very unhelpful. Asked her about the Foccacia appetizer and again, another rude response that she's never had it. Her response for a lot of the questions were basically, " I have no idea but a lot of people order it". I just felt so rubbed the wrong way that I had to write this review right away. Suspiro is elegant casual with a super chill, yet sophisticated vibe. They have beautiful inside and outdoor seating. We arrived early on a Saturday and were seated right away. Service started out great. We ordered the mariscos paella right away because it takes awhile to cook. Mariscos is the seafood version. But since we had 30 minutes, we ordered a couple additional tapas and Bloody Mary. One was tortilla de patatas which is like a quiche type egg omelette with potatoes. It came with delicious garlic cream sauce. Without that it was bland. We also had albondigas, which are delicious meatballs on a bed of mashed potatoes. And when the paella came, that was excellent too. Crispy on top but not on the bottom. They use a lot of oil on the bottom and meat broil the top. It was all tasty but pricey. These items were $165 all in. For instance, at &18, it was $5 per meatball. But really good meatballs! By the time we finished, it was quite busy in the restaurant. First time trying the S bar in Suspiro and this is definitely being added to the lineup for sip and yap locations. The vibes were immaculate and the drinks + food were delish! Got 2 gin martinis, 2 hugo spritz, and 2 specialty cocktails :) All the drinks were fabulous and were so necessary after solidcore session. I was super excited to try some amazing Peruvian food in santana row and suspiro looked amazing from yelp pictures so couldn't wait to come here and give this a shot. We finally made it here and the space looked amazing. We got seated right away and I loved the interiors. The high ceilings added an amazing touch to the ambiance. Suspiro is a really cozy spot with great aesthetics and a welcoming atmosphere. The waitstaff wear classy black aprons that add to the vibe, and everyone was genuinely friendly and attentive. The mix ceviche was fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavor. Definitely one of the highlights of the meal. The croquettes were also tasty, although the ham croquette was a little disappointing since it tasted more like the sauce than the ham itself. We ordered the carne paella, and while it was absolutely delicious, the portion was massive for two people. I wish they offered a smaller size because we ended up with way more food than we could finish. It also felt a bit expensive considering the amount of meat included. The octopus in the ceviche was another miss for me. It lacked the bite and texture I was hoping for, and it was chopped so small that it was hard to really taste it or get any mouthfeel from it. One thing I highly recommend is asking for their hot sauce. It's an orange colored sauce that reminded me of the creamy orange salsa you get at some taquerias, and it was seriously good. The cocktails were reasonably priced, and most of the tapas felt fairly priced as well. That said, $15 for four croquettes felt a little steep. I also enjoyed their house made taro chips, though they're an extra $4. My only other complaint is that their digital menu doesn't include pictures. It would make ordering a lot easier, especially for first time visitors. I also wish they had a larger tapas selection since that's what I'd primarily come back for. Overall, Suspiro is a great spot for tapas and cocktails with a fun atmosphere, friendly service, and some standout dishes. Food was very good. We went to suspiro not knowing if we'd have a ton of options given our dietary restrictions and we found that they have a ton of veggie options. We ordered the bombas, empanadas vegetales, the skewers, the papayas and the Spanish omelette and it was all very good. We had their signature cocktails and it's the perfect kinda cocktail that pairs well with a rainy ambiance and a sunny day and we look forward to coming back on a sunny day to enjoy outside! I was very excited about this cuisine and restaurant and got the opportunity to try it out in an office event. Let's talk taste first, beautiful set up inside, our server was great too! I couldn't taste anything special or special in the food. Empanadas were normal 7/10, croquettes were fine too 8/10, for entrees we had chicken/pork Paella and vegetarian Paella. They were average tasting for me 6/10. Lastly we ordered some desserts and we had 4 different things Flan, cheesecake, chocolate cake and sponge cake I didn't try Flan, but the others. However, Rocoto pepper is a nightshade related to berries, and we had a berry allergy in our group. Came here for lunch on a holiday Monday. They were still serving brunch, which is normally only weekends, but with it being a holiday, they extended the menu. The brunch menu is in addition to the lunch menu. I came with a big group and we ended up ordering two different paellas. We got a medium (serves 2) of the Fideua and a large (serves 4) of the Paella de Mariscos. The Fideua was the crowd favorite as it was unique and served with short noodle paella in lieu of rice. The Paella de Mariscos is more traditional with the rice, shrimp, mussels, squid and aioli sauce. We also got their ceviche, which was refreshing and delightful. My friend and I also tried their omelettes of their brunch menu. I got the chorizo with asparagus and manchego cheese while my friend got the seafood that came with shrimp and white fish with onions. We both thought the omelette was alright. Could use more flavor and something else. Honesty, skip it. Service was good, they were attentive. The place was relatively quiet for a holiday lunch. It was alright but not as flavorful as I would expect out a good seafood based paella. Also I asked for a more burnt base but it came out still a little too soggy and without the crusty bottom I was expecting. The patatas bravas has a nice crunch to it but the aioli brava drizzles over the potatoes was incredibly little and sparing that we had to ask them to bring out more sauce on the side. Cerviche was fresh and good. I ordered their off menu, mezcal cocktail which has a little stronger tequila concentration than the ones I had in other places. Nice ambiance with modern setup. Santana Row has A LOT of new restaurants and we haven't been to any of them. Well, we knocked off 3 (yes, 3!) in one evening: Suspiro, Augustine, and Zazil. First, Suspiro. They have a "secret" bar, but unfortunately, it was closed for a private event. But the restaurant was so pretty and lively, and the hostess was so nice, that we decided to sit at the regular bar. Suspiro is Peruvian, which meant we had to order the Pisco Sour. We also got the Pitahaya, which had gin, dragon fruit, orange juice, egg white, and a Tempronillo red wine float. Since it was 87 degrees, ceviche sounded good, so we got that to snack on. We agreed that the Pisco Sour at Cascal's is still the best, but Suspiro had the most potential out of the 3 restaurants that we tried tonight. I loved the vibe! The restaurant was just so well designed, we really did feel like we were transported to Spain on a hot, sultry night! The service was good and the ceviche was fresh and a surprisingly large portion. Tucked away by Cinemark and the NetApp office is Suspiro, an aesthetically pleasing, Instagram-worthy Spanish and Peruvian tapas place. I wasn't sure what to expect, but their food was excellent. We ordered the empanadas de vegetales, croquetas de jamon, lomo saltado, papas bravas, squid ink paella, and cocktails: Poncho and an espresso martini. Everything came out super fast, and the empanadas and croquetas were to die for. I would've ordered more of the croquetas had I still had room for it. Overall, this was a bit of a mixed experience for me - some positives, but also a few things that made it hard to justify the price point (at least based on the lunch menu). First, service was very kind. The heater wasn't working inside while we were there, but they offered to bring me a blanket, which actually helped a lot. Food-wise, it was more mixed. The Ensalada Barcelona was actually quite good - fresh, well-balanced, and probably my favorite thing we ordered. The mocktails were also good, though on the sweeter side. If you like a sweeter drink, you'll probably enjoy them, but I personally would have preferred a little more balance. Unfortunately, the carpaccio de ternera was a miss for me. I rarely leave food unfinished, but I couldn't finish this one. It just tasted bad. The pan con tomate also surprised me - it was essentially a light tomato sauce on toasted bread, which felt a bit underwhelming for the price point. At the end of the day, for the price, I was hoping for a bit more depth. To be fair, I've only tried the lunch menu, so dinner may be a different experience. A beautiful plate of mixed ceviche with great flavor, bracing acid and a nice little kick. Definitely also get the taro chips on the side to pair with the ceviche. We came here with a big party of 15 people. My biggest compliment is the service. From the woman at the front door taking people to their tables to the waiters to the team cleaning the table the service was the BEST. I never had to raise my hand for anything. If you start looking around for someone they will come right away to get you what you need. Sometimes the service alone will get me to comeback to the restaurant. However that was not the only bright spot. The Paella's were very very delicious. I am setting it apart to say the seafood items got me hooked. The seafood paella and the ceviche are so so delicious and a must try. The specialty cocktails were a change of pace because they had some I had never heard or tried, they were definitely a taste from the Peru/Spain motherlands. Our server was very kind and attentive, we went for our anniversary and did the speakeasy portion of the restaurant. It was much more quiet and intimate. We went around 6:45 and it started getting busy closer to 7-8 We shared a couple of drinks and some carbs. The patatas bravas we wish would have been crisper. The Mariscos plate was yummy especially the creamy sauce. Honestly the drinks are the main attraction here. This place is amazing. Both the food and service are top-tier, and it's always a good time with friends. The drinks are also delicious! The paella, ceviche, empanadas, and chicken croquettes stood out to me the most, but everything else was great too. Tried Suspiro for the first time celebrating a good friend's birthday. Didn't realize it's so close to the parking structure, the place is modern, with great atmosphere and ambiance. We were seated by the window, our waiter Jess (?) was very attentive and helpful. We ordered a bit more than needed for the three of us and had a wonderful time. They offer Spanish and Peruvian cuisine both authentic in flavor and elevated and presentation. Everything is portioned to share and we loved almost all of our choices. Most of the dishes came very quickly (almost too quickly) after we ordered, only the Paella took a little while. The standout dish of our tapas was the Mixto Ceviche, ($31) generous portions of very fresh seafood perfectly marinated in a tangy/spicy sauce. The added taro chip ($4) however was a bit oily not all crispy, wished we had the regular ones. The anchovy olives were tasty, we had to order a second helping ($5). Ensalada de Burrata ($23) was well received, definitely plenty to share. Also shared the Croquetas de Jamon ($15) and Bikini Trufado ($18), both delicious and rich but can be filling. We all loved the seafood Paella ($64), the 2 person portion can feed 4 if you also get some tapas, large prawns and mussels on top of tasty rice mixed with squid, one of the best Paella we had recently. The Lomo Saltado ($45) was the only miss, it was very salty to the point we all stopped after eating one piece. Mentioned to the manager, he was very polite and pleasant about our comments, we were later informed that they took the item off the bill. Our birthday friend also received a complimentary dessert, needless to say we appreciated the excellent customer service. We all agreed that this is a great find and we'll be happy to return and recommend to others. read more
