I recently decided to take up bike riding, but I didn't really know a whole lot about what kind of bike I needed. The last time I had ridden a bike was 30 years ago on a Huffy to elementary school. I assumed that bikes were probably very different now and that I should visit a local bike shop for some advice instead of just buying one online. I don't mind paying a premium for something if I actually get some help in figuring out what I need to buy. I decided to visit Bicycle Village in Westminister. It looked like they had thousands of bikes to chose from. I went there on a weekday in the afternoon when the store was pretty empty. I walked around aimlessly for about 20 minutes before anyone asked if I needed any help. I said that I was looking for a bike and told the salesman that I wasn't sure what I really needed and asked if he could make a recommendation for me. He asked me if I would be riding the bike on the street or the mountains. I said, probably a little bit of both; I wasn't entirely sure. The salesman then pointed me to a section of the store that had about 1,000 bikes and said "any one of these should work for you...look around and let me know which one you decide on" and then walked off. Each bike looked totally different to me. Some looked like girls bikes, some looked like boys. They had different types of gear handles and different numbers of gear speeds. Pointing me to this section of bikes didn't help me out at all. I guess I had expected the salesman to help me factor in my weight, activity level, experience, height, gender, etc and then narrow things down to a handful of bikes, not just 1/3 of the store. I left Bicycle Village just as confused as when I had arrived. I did my own research online over the next week and then just bought a bike from an online store. There IS a good reason why these brick and mortar stores are going out of business. read more

Awful customer service! I needed a simple wax on my board and they were asking a week! I asked if they could do anything sooner and they said they could for 35 dollars.... so what they are saying is they can do it, but do not want too and would rather rip me off is read of offering good service to their customers. Since they have switched to epic, I'm not sure if they got new management but wow is it different in a better way. Review update: September 2019 I went in to get some snowboard boots and had the worst experience. Some young guy who sounded like he was deep in a cold walks up to size me. He brings me out 9.5 size boots which I wear and 11 and my old pair were 12s and I had them for 13 years. I knew they were a little big, but they were comfy and shoot I had them 13 years! I couldn't even get my foot in the 9.5 and he was arguing with me that these were the right size. Ummm I couldn't get my foot in! He the reluctantly brought me a 10 and again my toes couldn't even go flat. I probably needed a 10.5. But this is where it got worse.. he refused to sell me a 10.5 or 11 as he said they would be to big! I'm sorry, who's foot is in this boot? I swear he was too sick or high and read my measurement wrong as there is no way I'm a 9.5. I have snowboarded for 25 years I am not an idiot. I will NEVER go back and am making sure I spread the word in the office about this experience. read more

This is my second review of this place because they really are so helpful. After my first day on the mountain my boots were proving to be a little too big so I came in to exchange them out. Jay helped me and went above and beyond in pulling out multiple boots from the back for me to give me my best option. Love this bike shop...my uncle ran a bike shop that I spent 10 summers in growing up and this one has the same great feel. They always go above and beyond for me and my wife. I have been shopping here for about six years now and have bought everything from bikes, to accessories, to service on bikes and have always been satisfied. As a matter of fact we used to live 2 minutes away and now live about 30 minutes away and still only use this shop a year and a half later after our move! read more

I needed to replace all 3 of my bikes that were stolen. I visited 5 other bicycle stores in Denver. Most of the other stores had arrogant salespeople. I was helped by Josh and Erik and the manager Chris at the Westminster location. All three of them were down to earth and eager to help me find bicycles that I would love. It seemed like they kept my best interest in mind rather than trying to up sell me. They found me great deals on two of the three bikes I needed to replace. Now to see if they can help my wife find a replacement for her bike. Thanks to all three of you. This will be my bicycle store of choice going forward. Today I became a fan of Bicycle Village. I popped in, unannounced, needing a new chain for my mountain bike. They didn't hesitate, "bring it right in, we'll check it over." I rolled the bike in, two tech's immediately offered to work on the bike...they checked all the adjustments, links, etc...replaced the chain, made a few adjustments, gave me the extra links for a spare and I was out the door ready for a ride. What's the big deal? I had just popped into my "old Favorite shop" asking to check the chain and get a replacement. They didn't even put a chain tool on the chain to check for slack, said the chain was good...but needed to scheduled a tune up...next week. read more

I'm a complete novice at buying skis very helpful staff walked me through the process and selected skis for myself and my wife. They had the bindings on and the skis ready to go in about two hours. Excellent skis! Lots of other great clothing and gear. Staff also helped me to replace a lost epic pass. read more

I haven't owned a bike in 10+ years but decided to purchase 2 bikes for my wife and I. We are obviously novice riders and just wanted to be able to enjoy the green belts and bike paths around the area. I'm extremely happy with our purchases. The employees were friendly, professional, and considerate of our price range. They didn't try to persuade us into unaffordable price ranges and helped us with what we were interested in. They also did a quick maintenance check on the bikes before we were out the door. The only reason I am giving a four is because I feel as if the price range can be a little more competitive. You are going to pay normal retail price for just about anything you purchase. There really aren't any deals. read more

Great place. I bought my wife's first road bike here. Working with some roguely acquired body dimensions and my very poor husbandly description of her body shape, the salesman (wish I could remember his name) helped me into a Trek. Even if I had been wrong on the size guess, their policy would have accommodated an exchange and they all include a free fitting and tune up which is important. I have been back a couple of times to buy my daughter one of the ride on trailers and my boy's first training bike. I was happy to hear that for my son's bike, we get a good trade in value towards his next when he outgrows it. The prices are good for the quality they offer. Our family spends a lot of time on our bicycles for both recreation and commute so we tend to go through tires, tubes, chains and such. I do most of our tinkering and would only offer this con for bicycle village, their inner tubes, parts and tools are only carried in the premium brands and sometimes double the price of what you can find in lesser brands. Of course, if these are the only things I don't buy here, they still earn the stars. read more

This is a bike store that sells a high volume of bikes - so I would have guessed that they spend as little time with you as possible. But in fact, I've found the opposite - and they continue to win my business. But what first won my loyalty was on a cold morning as I was heading out for a long ride. It was a bit colder than I expected and since the bike shop was near my route I detoured to buy some full fingered gloves. Unfortunately I didn't have that much cash on me and left my wallet at home. The manager just gave me gloves and asked that I come back and pay for them after my ride. I did and now whenever I need bike gear, I'll go to BV. I've purchased bikes elsewhere (mainly due to brands carried) - but its a quality shop that cares about customers and supporting the cycling community in CO. read more

When I've gone in looking for one thing or another, they've had what I needed- and their staff are helpful- but the selection wasn't as great as it seems to be with the complete bikes. Had such a great experience here! I came in looking for a complete setup to start skiing, but told them I was trying to get back into it for the first time since childhood and wanted to stay at the lowest possible end of the budget. I felt like they really listened and didn't try to upsell me into spending more than I wanted to like a lot of places would have, but still took the time to help me find exactly the right fit. I ended up with a pair of returned demo skis with bindings, last season's boots on a great sale, and their cheapest poles. I was so happy with the whole experience that I came back a few days later to get a helmet and goggles, and they generously let me use the same coupon again. I think even if I end up with a different kind of pass in the future, epic will have my retail business for life. read more

On January 29, I took my bicycle for complimentary tune up since i purchased it at the bicycle village. Their ad says - drop in any time before Jan 31 for free tuneup. When I arrived at the store I was told that I can pay $80 for tuneup or have to come in in one month. They do not have space or time to do free tune up, but are happy to charge $80 for paid tuneup. Their ad said "drop by Jan 31" - they refused to take the bike - no space to store, but if I pay $80 then they are happy to take the bike. Poor customer service. Here is their ad: "Bring your bike in annually for a free tune-up between October 1 - January 31. You are running out of time, so if you have not brought your bike in yet, be sure to do so today!" This ad is not true, it should say bring your bike and we will charge you $80 today read more

I tried on most every snowboard boot on the wall and made a huge paper mess. Hank was very patient and understanding and big hearted making sure that the boot what is right for me. I felt he was very knowledgeable. DO NOT GO TO REI!! I feel like they're very brand specific not very knowledgeable staff. Epic mountain gear has a variety of brands. This place is chaos and very disorganized. Don't come here for ski or snowboard equipment as they don't know what they are talking about and are very very overpriced. I don't know about their bike department but I can't imagine it's that different. They have stuff marked the wrong price and don't honor coupons that you have received directly from them. Went in looking to buy a bike after 15 years of no riding. The salesman said I was in luck because they were running a sale on Trek bikes. I was told the sale was a $50 gift card on merchandise in the store with a purchase of a Trek bike, or it could be applied to a bike purchase. I explained what I was looking for and he let me ride some bikes around the store. I ended up deciding to purchase a Trek Marlin 6. When I went to pay, the salesman asked if I wanted to apply the $50 gift card to the bike. Someone else behind the counter said it had to be used later, which I later found out was the manager. The manager ended up saying since I was told it could be used during my bike purchase, he would honor what I was told by the salesman. I thought that was good business practice by the manager, but I said if that wasn't the the actual deal I would just come back and purchase something else with my gift card at a later date. I came back 2 weeks later to get my son a bike helmet since I had the gift card. We found the right one and went to check out. The cashier informed me the gift card had already expired. I was a little confused, but she stated she would get a manger over to see if they would still accept it. On the front of the card it had dates, which was days the special ran through. Come to find out that was also the expiration. That would have been nice to know. The manager came over, same manager that previously said I could apply the $50 towards my bike during the original purchase. He said he couldn't take the gift card now, and that the gift card was also only valid for a specific brand of merchandise. Once again, that would have been nice to know when I bought a $600 bike. I argued a little, told him he lost my business for life, and he replied "sorry you feel that way." He coward down behind the desk, I had a few more words with him and left. I will gladly go and spend my thousands of dollars on future bike purchases for my family somewhere else in the future. My generous 2 stars were given for my original visit to the store. Don't waste your time here. Spend your hard earned money somewhere that cares. And for the little disrespectful and cowardly manager, thinking maybe a job as a telemarketer might be more appropriate for you. read more
