Well, I glad I searched online for a Dermatologist that could help with my problematic skin. Over the years, I developed Brown spots and small skin tags. I also noticed my hairline was thinning, too. Dr. Walker examed my face and on the scalp. She quickly put my fears at ease. She removed several of the tags and small moles on my face. The process was quick and not as painful as I imagine it will be. I completely freak out moments before the procedure. The nurse calmed my fears and helped me with my anxiety. Dr. Walker recommends me to Ashley. To follow up with some other facial services. Overall, Dr. Walker and the other ladies were professional and personal. I feel like I've been going there for years. Complete scam of a dermatologist. Had them remove skin tags under my arm. Used NOTHING to deaden the nerves. Just pulled scissors out of a package and snipped away. Left me with nice scars since their only remedy for bleeding was a band-aid. They insisted on removing a questionable mole (which I was never shown and now questioning if it really existed) then charged me $1000 for a procedure they quoted at a couple hundred dollars. Now I am stuck with a six inch scar on my back, two scars in my armpits, and a bill at roughly 5x what I was quoted. Do NOT use them! Only giving them one star because zero is not an option. read more

Went a couple month ago, took about 15 minutes with the dermatologist. They didn't address my moles or my rosacea only gave an acne medication that I'm am almost out of and it never worked. I've had to go back to my doctors in Florida because the moles were a big concern. They never called me back with an itemized receipt, since they cost more than my Florida doctor who actually fixes my skin issues, and sent for the first time in my life a bill to collections. They did not resolve any of my issues. My Florida doctor did though. read more

I only have great things to say about Derm and Laser center!!! I have been to both their locations in Charleston and Summerville and both are gorgeous, clean and filled with friendly staff!! I got a really great Hydrafacial from Danielle which left my skin GLOWING for days. I also love their Emsculpt NEO device and Emsella!! My first visit didn't seem too helpful and I just got recommended a bunch of expensive products. but I got some great advice the second time. They do seem to know their stuff. I opted to go to this location because someone referred me. The receptionist on the phone was not super helpful. I had a good amount of questions and she made me feel as though I was bothering her. I arrived twenty minutes early for my appointment and was taken to a room about a half hour after my appointment time. The nurse (?) was very kind and made me feel comfortable, but once the doctor (finally) came in, she completely changed attitudes. The doctor was just like the receptionist- did not seem to care that I was a human being with concerns and not just a number on a folder giving them money. I received a card in the mail stating it has been about a year since my last check up and I should make a new appointment. I called and asked to be taken off of their contact list. I will be searching for a new dermatologist in the area. I gave them an additional star since their facilities were super nice and up to date, but it really only deserves one star. read more

I began going to Dermatology & Laser Center of Charleston to see Kalen Ashford, PA, in hopes of alternate treatments for my rosacea which hadn't responded to previous medications. While my rosacea wasn't responsive to new treatments, Kalen referred me to the research center of Dermatology & Laser Center of Charleston. In the research department, I met Dr. Schlesinger. Over the last few years, I have gone through two clinical trials for two separate topical rosacea drugs. In the clinical research department, I have also had the pleasure of working with Linda and Nikita. Everyone at the center has been kind, compassionate, diligent, and thorough in their treatment. Overall, this was not a good experience. The office staff made a great first impression, but Dr. Erin Walker did not leave me with a good feeling as a new patient. She is very knowledgeable, but seemed a bit flippant in her responses to some of my questions about finding the right products for eczema and acne. She even spoke over me a few times and gave a sarcastic glance to her assistant nurse as I tried to ask about and explain my skin care routine. She started off the appointment asking me, "what's going on," and taking a quick look, which was fine. But she never really asked much about my skin history or allergies, which I had to continually state were concerns for me. Knowing why this new breakout was different for me might have been helpful, but instead she just asked me to personally "rate" my breakout and then told me it was a "2" on her scale. That made me think she was planning to generalize what she saw and not consider factors that were particularly unique, new, and/or concerning for me. I wanted to understand more about a new breakout, how to treat acne alongside eczema, and the differences between my flare ups, but didn't feel comfortable asking any more questions. She really only asked specific questions after I asked some. However, she but did help provide a bit of clarity on what types of products to avoid for sensitive skin. Maybe it's just her personality, but I'm not likely to return. Lastly, do not expect to receive a visit summary at the end of your appointment. A basic print out of the doctor's diagnoses/instruction from the visit was a foreign concept to the front desk. I was asked to sign a medical release form for my own records to get any takeaway information at all and it ended up being just a sheet of insurance billing codes. read more

Had a mole that changed, fortunately I was smart enough to go get it checked because sure enough, it was melanoma. Very glad I found such excellent doctors, and they quickly had the mole removed, and I'm in the clear a mere 2 weeks later after the diagnosis. Very friendly and professional staff. There are two sides to this place: the "medical" side and the "beauty" side. They diagnosed and treated my husband's skin cancer quickly (twice) and he barely has the faintest scars. When we were in the waiting area between surgery and stitching up, I saw a pretty steady stream of ladies, young and old, coming and going, some within a 15 minute time span. The "beauty" side does things like botox and lip injections, etc. I can't vouch for these services, but the medical part is top notch, as far as we are concerned. read more

I'm sad to leave this place. I totally enjoyed my experience here. But the problem is they sent my last skin biopsy to a company in Tennessee and it was not covered by insurance. I called the company in Tennessee, and they said it was a huge problem with Dermatology and Laser of Charleston because many of their patients have Blue Essentials of S.C. insurance. Because of that extra expense, I had to change to a dermatologist that uses local labs. If you have Blue Essentials insurance coverage, this is not the place for you. But otherwise you will be well taken of here. I will miss Dr. Maino, Clinton and John. read more

I saw Dr. Scharnitz in the Newton office. He was everything I wanted in a doctor, knowledgeable, patient, caring, extremely thorough. He answered all my questions and listened to my concerns. We had a wonderful experience with this clinic. They address my 13 year old daughter about her acne but still explained things to me.

I had a great experience here today. I chose this dermatologist because it is in the Boeing Roper St. Francis network. When I called and scheduled an appointment they got me in right away. When I arrived at the office I was pleasantly surprised with how nice and up-to-date the building is. It is not far from Roper St. Francis Hospital. I did not have a long wait at all to go back to the exam room. I came in to have my moles checked out to make sure they are not cancerous as I am very light skinned. I had moles biopsied with no problem, it was a little painful as to be expected. The physicians assistant I seen, nurse and student who was shadowing her were very friendly , very knowledgeable and addressed all of my concerns. I didn't see a doctor but I was fine with that. I will be going back in three months for a follow-up. I'm very pleased with this practice and highly recommend it. I do suggest filling out paperwork online before your appointment as it saves you a tremendous amount of time. read more

My daughter and I have been patients for years and yesterday because of work, I completely forgot about my appointment. I feel terrible and called this morning to apologize and reschedule expecting to pay a small fee but not the $75 consult fee again when no consult had taken place. In all fairness I have missed one other time and they waived the fee, which I appreciated. I was planning on a couple of cosmetic procedures that they would make a lot more money on than the $75 but they care more about punishing me for missing than keeping their customer happy and coming back. She was not helpful, her tone was offensive and abrasive. If the doctors know this is who represents their office then they should be ashamed. I'm an ICU physician and have been working tirelessly taking care of covid patients since the start of this pandemic. I use PPE and take all necessary precautions. I have been fortunate and have not been infected despite many months of taking care of these patients every single day. I was thrilled when the salons in Charleston opened and made an appointment at Dermatology and Laser Center of Charleston to get my lash extensions replaced after a night shift in the ICU. Apparently, at my first appointment, I was tired and just checked all "no" boxes on the questionnaire regarding symptoms (and apparently contacts). I showed up to my appointment wearing clean scrubs and a mask. There was no problem at that point and I got my lashes done without incident. We even chatted about the misinformation about covid and what I was seeing as an ICU physician. I made a second appointment for a lash fill two weeks later, again after a night shift. Despite a chaotic night shift, I stayed awake 3 hours after my shift for my appointment (it's the ONLY thing I'm doing for myself right now). This time, I checked the box on the questionnaire that I was in contact with covid patients (this time I wasn't even wearing scrubs). I was mortified at how I was suddenly treated. I was refused service and told that they weren't even sure that they could refund my deposit for the appointment. They weren't comfortable with me being there. I wear PPE and take all necessary precautions. I am asymptomatic and wear a mask always in public. My treatment by the staff at Dermatology and Laser Center of Charleston was nothing but unwarranted and ignorant discrimination. I have never felt more mortified in my life. Thank you so much for supporting your healthcare workers. Fear not, I will not be returning. read more

I went to the Dermatology & Laser Center office on Ashley River Rd. for a skin cancer lesion. When I called for a last minute appt. and explained the problem they got me in immediately. I was very impressed with the professionalism of everyone I met - from Monique and Haven who were my first impressions of this practice and who took the time to give me explicit driving directions, to Lakia and Alexis who both have a very soothing presence, and who had to deal with my fear of needles. And I really appreciated the way Dr. Erin Walker took the time to explain the procedures and steps to treatment. A lot of doctors don't do that probably figuring that laypersons wouldn't understand anyway.
