My massage here with Nicole was mostly a non-event, rather than a horrible experience. I suspect that a lot of people who have had a less than stellar experience feel too bad about writing a negative review, since she was a very nice person. But given that I unloaded a wad a cash based on all these positive reviews, I feel obligated to share. This was what I would call a "stalling for time" massage, where due to a lack of interest, skill, energy, or a combination thereof, the masseuse spends their time mostly trying to avoid giving a massage. The result: definitely not worth the money. It was a good rest, but not a good massage. The massage itself was about 25% adjusting pillows and pulling sheets on and off. Now I am not totally dismissive of this, as the set up was very comfortable, but sometimes I had to laugh when it took 40 seconds to get a sheet off my leg, then my leg was massaged for 40 seconds, then another 40 seconds to put the sheet back in place. Another 10% of the time was spent repeatedly walking back and forth across the room to get lotion (perhaps one of those tool belts some massage therapists use is called for given how large the room is, and how frequently this was necessary). The massage itself was so useless that at one point I genuinely wondered if she was licensed. There was some occasional good touching, but more often it was in some weird location, just pressing down, and I felt...nothing. Not good, not relief, not comfort or release of tension...nothing. Occasional irritation that she was being totally ineffective. I would have to say she was not in tune with my body, or even the basic physiology of A Body. Some of the massage was so inconsequential and void of intention that I had a "this is a joke, right?" feeling, and had to think that pretty much any non-professional could have done a better job. Unlike in the other posts, she did not take more than a few cursory moments to go over what was up with my body, and it did make starting the massage a little awkward, given all the communication about body placement that was needed - kind of an intimate thing to get into without first establishing a rapport. Perhaps I just like a different style, or perhaps this masseuse needs to examine whether she still enjoys her job. Best of luck! read more

I heard I had to be careful with getting a pregnancy massage so I wanted to find a place that specialized in it. Being that 3 Yelpers gave Equilibrio 5 stars, I had to check it out! Nicole didn't have any availability, but I was able to get an appointment with Marissa. It was such a great experience. I didn't know what to expect as I've had numerous massages in the past at various spas, etc, and Marissa was very knowledgeable and helped make me feel comfortable. I always thought those pregnancy pillows and contraption looking things were just a way to make money off pregnant women, but MAN...they actually work!!! I've never felt so comfortable laying down on my side before (even pre-pregnancy). I loved it so much that I made my next appointment with Marissa. Nicole at Equilibrio is simply amazing. I had the best (prenatal) massage ever! She really took the time to get to know me and my concerns before the session and was available after the session to talk. It was definitely most personable experience I've had with massage. Usually you get walked to the room with little small talk, undress, lay down and enjoy... My experience with Nicole was so much better than that: we talked first and then eased into the massage session. For prenatal massage Nicole will set you up with special pillows, you literally will have a floating on a cloud experience. Massage techniques that she uses will make you melt on her table, I have no doubt about that. And after you will feel like a brand new relaxed and happy version of yourself. I then came back for prenatal and post partum massage, and now continue to get regular massage every month. I had a massage at 37 weeks pregnant by Janis. The space was lovely, the pillows they provide for side lying positions fit perfectly. There is one for your head, a wedge for under the belly, and two to three under your thigh/knee/foot as well as one to hug. Janis started off with asking me a few questions about how my pregnancy is going, what I'm looking for in the massage (relaxation or specific release of muscle tension). I had a little of both in mind and pointed out on a chart where I would like extra pressure. Janis did an outstanding job and responded very well to feedback if the pressure was, at first, too hard or too soft. She adjusted her pressure and rhythm to my needs to ensure I had a good experience. After the massage we also talked a little bit about ourselves and our stressors. I had a great experience. Today, 38 weeks, I went back for partner instruction, because I want my partner to be able to help me relax during labor. We met with Allison. Just like Janis, we talked about my pregnancy so far, what my goals for today were, if there where specific areas to target and she also explained that she had been a doula for some time. She was great to talk to before, during, and after massage. She ensured that my partner was able to mimic her motions and then create a technique unique to him but that still felt good for me. She talked a lot about the connection between mom and baby but also partner, mom, and baby. We talked about the rhythm of massage, pressure, a bit of anatomy, acupressure, and even energy vis a vis chakras. After having my partner follow along with her and having her speak with both of us I feel confident he learned well and can replicate the relaxing sensations I had while being worked on by Allison. I mean of course, she has a wealth of knowledge, but I think he has taken a lot of good tips that will help while I'm in labor and beyond. She apologized for the mix-up and offered to re-schedule a time to have a massage, her treat. I had my appointment with her last Saturday, fresh off 18 hours of travel the day prior. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. This was my first time with all of the pillows, and I was more comfortable than I have even been during a massage, pregnancy or not. She took the time to explain what their purpose was, but once the massage started, remained quiet while she was working unless I had a question or comment. I personally prefer not to have a therapist talk throughout the massage and Nicole did not disappoint. The massage itself was incredible; she knew all of my problem spots without me having to tell her and worked muscles in my hips that I did not know existed, and certainly that no prior massage therapist had ever worked before. I have terrible pregnancy-induced sciatica and it has not bothered me since (fingers crossed). If you are considering having a massage here, do not hesitate to call for Nicole. I just had my first prenatal massage at almost 36 weeks pregnant. I had the pleasure of having Allison and she was AMAZING! She is also a doula which was nice to hear because she just knew and understood a pregnant woman's body and what it needs. I went here at 39 weeks pregnant for a prenatal massage with Janis. It was fantastic - Janis focused on many of the pressure points for pre-labor, and the massage was very relaxing. We talked a lot about my pregnancy beforehand, and she was able to offer up a lot of good advice from her own experience. Janis is a sweetheart and a great listener. The massage was set up perfect with pregnancy pillows -- under my head and legs. I left the massage feeling very relaxed and my back and neck kinks were completely worked through. This was significantly better than the prenatal massage I had at another place when I was 30 weeks pregnant. I recently read some reviews on Equilibrio, and decided to get my first prenatal massage. What a great decision! I have gone to Marissa twice now, and and amazed at how a massage can be that good while lying on your side, and pregnant. The support and pillows really are like lying on a cloud, and Marissa is so knowledgable about the body. She truly understands each pain point that I explain, and addresses it perfectly. She uses deep pressure (becuase I asked for it) which I love. Too many massage therepists give surface level massages, but hers are deep, and effective. I also love the cranio-sacral therapy that she adds in at the end. I am happy to report that I am 28 weeks pregnant and basically pain free because of her massages. I would highly recommend her!! This was probably one of the better massages I've gotten in a while. I actually went here because my wife booked a prenatal massage for herself. She also booked me a regular massage. The moment Janis started the massage I felt great relief throughout my body. Amazing! I had the most wonderful massage by Tiana at 34 weeks pregnant. My husband booked the Divine Mama massage for me and I'm so thankful he did. It's been a hot summer and I've been so uncomfortable and experiencing a lot of lower back pain and having trouble sleeping. During and after the massage is the most relaxed I've felt all pregnancy. The pillow set up was awesome and now I'm doing something similar at home while sleeping. I would go back everyday if I could! This is my second time at Equilibrio Massage! I am currently almost 33 weeks along in my pregnancy. The first time I came here was back in December between 20-21 weeks in my pregnancy. I first met with Janice who was amazing. She did such a great job and she made sure I was comfortable. Her massage was so good that I felt so relaxed and peaceful. She took her time which I really liked. I had such a great experience with her and the massage was so relaxing that it put me to sleep :) That's how relaxed I got.. She even used a heating pad/pillow during the whole massage on different parts of the body which relaxed me even more. It really helped with my strained muscles and added such a great touch to the massage. Also, what I liked about Janice was that she massaged not only my back but my legs, arms, hands, feet, neck, head and forehead. She really took the time and concentrated on all these parts of the body. She did a wonderful job and I would give her overall 4.5-5 stars!! Today, was my second time back to Equilibrio Massage. I had Marissa this time around. Marissa also did a great job but for some reason I didn't get as relaxed as I did the first time around with Janice. I am not sure if it was because I didn't get as much sleep the night before and I was in a rush all morning that my mind was elsewhere. Besides that my stomach was in a bit of pain today and I think that took away from my overall experience. This is definitely not Marissa's fault by any means. Marissa also did a fine job and made sure I was relaxed as well. The only negative thing was that her hands were cold during the massage which in turn made me cold. When I get a massage I like to be warm and relaxed. Also, she did use a heating pad/pillow which I liked but she only used it on my neck not my whole body like Janice did. With Marissa I was not as relaxed where with Janice I was more relaxed and fell to sleep! One other positive thing was that Marissa did have me lay on my back and she massaged my neck and shoulders which was great! Janice didn't do this. Overall, I would give Marissa 4 stars. The only reason I would give Janice a 4.5-5 stars is because she used the heating pad/pillow on different parts of the body which warmed me up and she didn't have chilly hands. I felt she didn't rush the massage as much and she made me feel relaxed more as to where I fell asleep! Either way I love this place and would recommend it to anyone! It seemed like the first several places I tried, "Pregnancy Massage" was just something they offered on their menu of treatments, but no one really specialized in "the pregnant woman." Worse yet, no one seemed to believe a pregnant woman could get massage. They would be afraid to apply any pressure and would refuse to massage my lower back, (which of course, is what was killing me, especially at the end of my pregnancy). Their fear would make me feel nervous and afraid and I wouldn't be able to relax. It didn't even feel like I had a massage and I always left disappointed. Until I found Equilibrio. It was like an oasis for the pregnant woman. My therapist had a pillow to support every inch of my body. It showed me they really took the time to think about a pregnant body and how to maximize my comfort and therefore my enjoyment of my massage experience. I immediately felt that I found the specialist I had been searching for. The therapist always asked me how my body was feeling, thoughtfully listening to me complain about my aches and pains and truly trying to understand what I needed that day, always adjusting her technique massage by massage, pinpointing my problem areas and skillfully relieving me of my pain and tension. Throughout my sessions, my therapist offered techniques that I could use at home to stretch and make myself more comfortable between massages. I appreciated the depth of their knowledge of pregnancy, as well as, their technical skill at massage. My sweet husband bought me the Divine Mama massage and an additional 6 massages for me to enjoy throughout my pregnancy for Mother's Day. I have been seeing Allison and she is PHENOMENAL! She has a fantastic understanding of anatomy and as a physical therapist I love this! She also has the perfect touch and great instincts; she's able to hone in on my problem areas without me mentioning anything and, often, without me even being aware that these areas were troubling me. I have gained so much more from Allison than just great massages. She is a mother of three and has great motherly and parenting advice. I had the Birth Day massage with Nicole and it was nothing short of incredible. Hands down the best massage I have gotten. She listened to me both before and at my appt and tailored a massage session for my specific challenges. I hope she knows how much of an impact she is having on the well being of pregnant mamas.
